It's been almost 50 years since "Rocky" first arrived in 1976, and in that time the franchise has changed dramatically. The "Rocky" saga has now grown beyond original star Sylvester Stallone, with Michael B. Jordan's "Creed III" barely mentioning the man who birthed the now legendary film series. Whatever you think about that, everyone can surely recognize the staying power of the "Rocky" movies, which have formed part of our pop cultural history for the better part of a half century.
None of this could have happened without the first entry in the saga, of course. "Rocky" introduced the world to the scrappy Southpaw from South Philly, who led a film that was remarkable for its realism and affecting performances. Much of that was down to Stallone who, having written the script during a particularly challenging time in his personal life, insisted on starring in the film, only to wow audiences...

There's striking while the iron is hot, and then there's striking while the iron is much closer to room temperature. "Escape Plan," director Mikael Håfström's 2013 action film pairing Sylvester Stallone and Arnold Schwarzenegger together for a long-awaited team-up, is the latter. By the time the duo combined their powers to play a prison security expert (Stallone) who is wrongly incarcerated (I sincerely hope writers Miles Chapman and Arnell Jesko patted themselves on the back for coming up with such a brazenly obvious dramatic irony) and has to break out of an illicit maximum-security prison with the help of a fellow inmate (Schwarzenegger), their glory days anchoring '80s and '90s macho-fests were long behind them.
Contrary to that, the first "Escape Plan" is actually pretty fun! Or, rather, it's fun in the same way that Stallone and Schwarzenegger's best action movie throwbacks are, in that the pair spend...

This is the first project on which P&g and Indigenous have partnered, as well as the first feature to emerge from 60 Second Docs, the latter’s three-time Webby Award-winning label, which has to date put out around 1,000 short documentaries about the world’s most interesting and unusual characters. Killer Collectibles highlights five of the most exciting new horror products released each and every week, from toys and apparel to artwork, records, and much more.
Here are the coolest horror collectibles unveiled this week!
Universal Monsters Bobbleheads from Neca
Neca will add four Universal Monsters to its Head Knockers line of bobbleheads in August. Priced at 34.99, Dracula, Frankenstein, Bride of Dracula, and The Wolf Man are made of hand-painted resin and stand 8″ tall.
The sculpts are pretty fun on these, although I’m not sure why the necks are comically long when Neca’s other bobbleheads don’t have that issue. The prototypes are pictured, so maybe they’ll iron that out before production.
B’Twixt Now and Sunrise: The Authentic Cut Blu-ray from Lionsgate
2011’s Twixt was an ambitious, if flawed, Gothic horror film from the great Francis Ford Coppola that failed to land with critics and audiences alike.

“Everyone struggles to find a version of themselves that they like,” so says Jane, as played by Gillian Jacobs, in the new, spellbinding exquisite-corpse film “The Seven Faces of Jane.” She’s talking to a young teenage girl who’s run away on her quinceañera, but she’s talking to herself too.
Jane has something of an identity crisis, or rather, one that’s been created for her. A single mother with time to spare while her daughter is away at camp, Jane sets off on an adventure, or several of them, actually. What follows are seven different stories by different directors, none of whom know what the others are doing.
This form is known as an “exquisite corpse,” as is defined at the start of the film, which functions almost like a game of Telephone. The directors in question, curated by Roman Coppola, are Jacobs herself, Gia Coppola, Boma Iluma,...

Things are complicated for Gracie Abrams. On “Where Do We Go Now?” the singer’s emotional facade falls as she reflects on the little white lies that added up and took a new shape as bright red flags. Backed into a corner by her own feelings, she lays all of her cards out on the table, uncertain of where that leaves her or the person she’s bearing her soul to.

“When I talk about how I came up, I didn’t see many female DPs,” Autumn Durald Arkapaw said during an interview about “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever,” Ryan Coogler’s sequel to his groundbreaking 2018 blockbuster. “I went to AFI, and the year that I was accepted — we’re talking 2007, I believe — was the year that the most female DPs were accepted in the program. “To be honest, the idea of freedom scares me:” Produced and presented by filmmaker Roman Coppola, eight different filmmakers come together to collectively direct “The Seven Faces of Jane,” in which the titular protagonist undergoes a series of life-altering changes, as she drives away from her “mundane life into an exciting odyssey on the road.”
The idea is essentially a cinematic exquisite corpse, the game invented by French surrealists, where one person writes a fragment of a sentence, the next person reads some of it, and tries to add onto it from there; essentially an experimental game of passing the baton with art.

Cinematographer Autumn Durald Arkapaw was one of the most sought-after names at the recent Camerimage film festival, with both fans and industry colleagues flocking to hear her speak at a post-screening Q&a.
The Bay Area native is currently enjoying a career boom after first drawing attention with deft work on indie pics like Gia Coppola’s Palo Alto and the Elle Fanning-starrer Teen Spirit before she was drafted into the MCU, lensing the breakout series Loki and now, Ryan Coogler’s Black Panther sequel Wakanda Forever.
Arkapaw’s ascension has been swift, but she told Deadline that her process has largely remained the same.

Cinematographer Autumn Durald Arkapaw Is Bringing a Visual Subtlety to the Marvel Cinematic Universe
The week after “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever” claimed its spot at the top of the box office, the film’s director of photography found herself simultaneously delighted and exhausted by the film’s success.

Claws-out high school drama has inspired some pretty memorable movies. Youthful touchstones like Heathers, Cruel Intentions, and Mean Girls take the intensity of hormones and the cruelty of high school students, and mix them with snappy, era-appropriate dialogue and up-and-coming stars. It’s a potent cocktail that when mixed just right yields delicious results. Netflix is looking to follow that template with their new high school revenge comedy Do Revenge, directed by Jennifer Kaytin Robinson, the co-writer of Thor: Love and Thunder who previously helmed Netflix’s Someone Great and created MTV’s Sweet/Vicious.
Will Do Revenge become the 2020s defacto teens-behaving-badly comedy? Only time will tell, but Do Revenge’s cast is enticing enough to suggest that the alchemy may be right for another mean girl magnum opus. Not sure where you’ve seen some of these fresh-faced stars before? Read below to find out.

Jack Kilmer has nabbed a leading role opposite Clifton Powell in B.B. King drama “The Thrill Is On,” Variety has learned exclusively.
Kilmer will play Michael, a young drummer who has a chance encounter with blues legend King (Powell), which proves to be the start of an enduring friendship. The upcoming film is based on the true story of producer Michael Zanetis’ own experience with the prolific musician, who died in 2015.
“As an actor and musician, Jack is uniquely qualified to portray our drummer on a mission. His passion for acting and music will ignite a compelling performance,” Zanetis said in a statement to Variety. “We can’t wait to see what magic this dynamic duo will bring to our film!”
Kilmer first broke out in 2013 with his starring role in Gia Coppola’s “Palo Alto,” and has since appeared in “The Stanford Prison Experiment,” “Lords of Chaos” and “Hala.

“You have to put it in the script. If you put in the script – it will happen.”
This is Geena Davis’ sage advice to filmmakers when crafting stories aiming to incorporate inclusive storylines and characters.
“Nobody is going to second guess if it says the scene takes place at, say, ‘a police station which is 40 women,’ or if there’s a scene where ‘a crowd gathers, which is half female,’” continues the Oscar-winning actor and founder of the eponymous Geena Davis Institute on Gender in Media.
“Specify what it is. You have to write in the script.”
That advice came to fruition in “The Seven Faces of Jane,” a surrealistic anthology film that held its world premiere at Geena Davis’ Bentonville Film Festival’s eighth edition last night in the quaint Arkansas city, home to Walmart’s global headquarters. The fest, founded and chaired by Davis, runs in-person through June...

Variety can exclusively reveal a clip from “The Seven Faces of Jane,” produced by Roman Coppola and starring Gillian Jacobs, which will have its world premiere as the opening night film at Geena Davis’ Bentonville Film Festival, Arkansas on June 22.
The eight-chapter experiential road trip film is co-directed by Julian Acosta, Xan Cassavetes, Gia Coppola, Ryan Heffington, Boma Iluma, Gillian Jacobs, Ken Jeong and Alex Takacs.
Automobile giant Ford was looking for a unique way to reach consumers about new electric vehicle Mustang Mach E and speak to a diverse audience in authentic voices. For “The Seven Faces of Jane,” Roman Coppola had the vision of creating a film using the “Exquisite Corpse” concept, a method of creating art by collectively assembling parts to create a whole. This format consisted of each filmmaker contributing a segment with little to no knowledge of what the others were doing, and they were...

Documentary studio Xtr and Crooked Highways are teaming up on “Merch!”
The upcoming documentary will look at the origin and impact of music merchandise through the stories of pivotal musicians, designers, fans, and entrepreneurs who helped commodify artists. The non-fiction feature will trace the history of these products, starting with the first Elvis Presley concert t-shirt. That continued with the psychedelic tie-dyed look popularized by the Grateful Dead and the skull-heavy iconography of Metallica and Megadeth. It extends to the present day, when artists like Kanye West, Justin Bieber, Harry Styles and Billie Eilish continue to mint money through imagery, posters, clothes and more.
“Merch!” will feature archival footage and will tell the story of the late merchandising legend, Dell Furano, as well as his brother Dave Furano, who co-founded Winterland Productions with Bill Graham. They witnessed merchandise transform from niche products for die-hard concert-goers to a massive revenue stream...
