A few years back, before the popularity of "The Walking Dead" was fathomed by studio executives, CBS was dabbling in delivering a zombie series of its own with "Babylon Fields" from Michael Cuesta, Gerald Cuesta, and Michael Atkinson. It never happened, but now guess what's just come back from the dead?
According to Deadline, "Babylon Fields" is getting a second chance at NBC, which has ordered a new pilot. The Cuesta brothers and Atkinson are back in their original roles as writers (Gerald Cuesta, Atkinson) and director (Michael Cuesta). The three will executive produce for 20th Century Fox TV. As part of the pilot order, Michael Cuesta has inked a two-year overall deal with the studio.
Described as a sardonic drama, in "Babylon Fields" the dead are rising in Babylon, NY, and as a result lives are regained, old wounds are reopened, and families are restored — for better or worse.

It seemingly died in the pilot stage six years ago, now the zombie drama series "Babylon Fields" looks like it could be resurrected.
Originally developed for a debut in Fall 2007 on CBS, 'Babylon' deals with what happens when the dead rise from their graves in a small Long Island town.
Amber Tamblyn, Kathy Baker, Jamey Sheridan and Ray Stevenson starred in the original pilot which didn't portray the undead as savage monsters - they could walk, talk and think for themselves.
NBC has now ordered a new pilot based on the concept from the trio responsible for the original - writers Gerald Cuesta and Michael Atkinson, and director Michael Cuesta ("Homeland," "Dexter").
Jennifer Salke, NBC Entertainment's president, helped develop the show at 20th Century Fox TV the first time around. She's the main driving force behind its return.

A few years back, I watched a pilot for a show called Babylon Fields directed by Michael Cuesta (L.I.E., “Six Feet Under”,12 and Holding, “Dexter”) and was blown away. This was prior to The Walking Dead but still took a similar premise from a 2004 French film, They Came Back. They Came Back (Original title: Les Revenants) was used as the basis for the latest French television series The Returned. Turns out The Returned is actually getting an American television adaptation on A&E via Lost‘s Carlton Cuse. Since zombies are hot, hot, hot, it has caused some reconsideration about the Babylon Fields property over at NBC.

A pilot that was originally developed six years ago at CBS is being brought back from the dead, this time at NBC.
The "back from the dead" part is especially apt here, because the show, "Babylon Fields," is about what happens when the dead rise from their graves in a town on Long Island. Deadline reports NBC has ordered a new pilot from writers Gerald Cuesta and Michael Atkinson and director Gerald Cuesta ("Homeland," "Dexter"), Gerald's brother. The trio had the same roles on the original pilot.
Jennifer Salke, now president of NBC Entertainment, helped develop the show at 20th Century Fox TV the first time around and was instrumental in helping bring it back.
"Babylon Fields" starred Amber Tamblyn, Kathy Baker and Ray Stevenson as living residents of Babylon, N.Y., who are understandably freaked out when they see long-dead relatives walking around. Jamey Sheridan and Leila Arcieri also starred.

Today brings news of yet another zombie show – five years ago, who would have ever guessed this would ever happen? – getting a pilot, and appropriately, it was one that was previously dead. Babylon Fields is a pilot that was pitched back in 2007/8, way back before The Walking Dead was picked up by AMC, and although it reportedly had good momentum, was never picked up by any network.
The spin on this particular undead story is that yes, the dead inexplicably come back to life, fatal wounds and blown out irises and all, but they’re like their pre-dead selves in every other way. They walk, they talk, and they do not eat living people. The pilot shows the problems caused by their unexpected return, and is similar in that regard to French series The Returned, which A&E is remaking with Carlton Cuse, and ABC’s Resurrection, which premieres March...

Jason Lee may have found a long-term distraction from all the chipmunk movies. He's set to star in CBS's crime pilot Second Sight, where he'll play a New Orleans detective with "an ocular disorder which causes him to have horrifying and visually stimulating anxiety dreams and hallucinations." Onetime Memphis Beat lawman Jason Lee has a new beat, as a police detective on CBS’ Second Sight pilot.
An adaptation of the British crime drama fronted by Clive Owen, Second Sight stars Lee as Tanner, the lead detective with the New Orleans Police Department. Tanner, though, is concealing a troublesome secret: He has an ocular disorder that causes him to have horrifying, visually stimulating anxiety dreams and hallucinations.
Assured by his doctor that he will not go blind, Tanner is encouraged to think of the side effects as a “gift,” signposts from his subconscious that – hey! — help him solve crimes.

Let me state for the record that I grew up loving the music of the Blue Öyster Cult, partly because I was the right age and partly because their lead singer, Eric Bloom, is my uncle. Therefore, I am attuned to all things Boc and am amazed I missed the release of Roadie. Now out on home video from Magnolia Entertainment, the film is a small tale about love, life, and yes, rock and roll.
The Boc was among the premiere heavy metal bands of the 1970s, thwarted from super-stardom because New York City Am radio wouldn’t play their music so they peaked. They continue to tour and play around the world with Uncle Eric and guitar wizard Buck Dharma (Donald Roseser) fronting the group. This year’s Tribeca will be running from Wednesday, April 20 to Sunday, May 1, so its close start date means that the lineup of movies are coming in fast. We’ve already gotten the World Narrative and World Documentary categories, and the next batch of movies have just been revealed.
Thanks to Deadline, we now have movies in the Spotlight, Cinemania, Special Screening and Sports categories. The list isn’t half bad; the one I’m looking forward to the most is The Guard, which got very strong reviews at Sundance earlier this year. All the categories seem to have solid picks, and I’d say this is shaping up to be a good year. Tfs will be there (including me!), so many of these movies will have reviews up on the site when the festival runs. Take a look at it below:

Well, congratulations New Yorkers, because you’ll get to see at least 2 films I saw at Sundance in January, when they screen at the 2011 Tribeca Film Festival, which just announced the second half of its festival lineup – the Spotlight, Cinemania, and Special Screening sections, most notably.
The films I’m referring to are Michael Rapaport’s Tribe Called Quest documentary, Beats, Rhymes & Life: The Travels of A Tribe Called Quest, and The Guard, which Don Cheadle co-stars in, as an FBI agent (or is it CIA).
I’m still planning on going through the full list of entries to spotlight any titles worthy of this website, and I’ll do that in coming days/weeks… definitely before the festival begins next month – a festival I plan to attend, since it’s right in my backyard.
Worth noting is that Rapaport’s doc will be making its New York premiere, the...
