ABC has opted not to renew for a second season The Company You Keep, its new drama series starring and executive produced by Milo Ventimiglia.
The Company You Keep, produced by Disney TV Studios’ 20th Television, did not perform as well as ABC’s two other midseason 2023 entries, fellow drama Will Trent, which has been renewed for a second season, and comedy Not Dead Yet, which is looking good for a renewal.
Still, Disney has longstanding relationship with Ventimiglia, who segued to The Company You Keep following his six-season starring turn on 20th Television’s hit NBC drama This Is Us. Based on that and the fact that The Company You Keep only premiered in midseason, there was talk that ABC may give the series a partial second season order to give it more time to find an audience.

Nearly three decades ago, Milo Ventimiglia stepped on a TV set for the first time. Since then, he’s barely ever taken a break — at least not an intentional one.
“After ‘Heroes,’ I had a hard time working, I couldn’t get a job,” Ventimiglia says. “It was one of the one or two times in my career where I thought about, what if I did something else? What if I got out of Hollywood? What if I left, and I moved out of the country? What if I did something like completely different than the path that I had been on? Because I couldn’t get work.”
Ventimiglia continues: “As an actor, you’re out there, you’re pounding the pavement, you’re taking meetings, you’re auditioning, you’re putting what you can into those auditions, and you’re not getting the work. So therefore it’s kind of like,...

For Milo Ventimiglia, the three-time Emmy-nominated star of “This Is Us,” getting into his upcoming ABC project “The Company You Keep” was just about a “haircut and a shave, and here I go.”
The actor said at Wednesday’s Television Critics Association press tour in Pasadena that he immediately jumped from the long-running NBC drama to the new caper show, taking roughly a two-week break in between roles and bringing along 90 of the production crew along with him.
“Shorthand, the expertise, the level that which I think ‘This Is Us’ operated, from a production standpoint, we carried it over to ours and everybody folded together and everyone works well together,” the actor said. “Production has been a lot of fun.”

ABC said Monday that it has picked up The Company You Keep, starring and executive produced by This Is Us alum Milo Ventimiglia, to series. The drama, produced by 20th Television, a part of Disney Television Studios, was the last remaining “second cycle” pilot to learn its fate, but was a consistent frontrunner and a move to a series pickup always looked promising.
Like drama pilot Will Trent, which was picked up to series this month, The Company You Keep had started a writers room in anticipation of a series order. The project also had brought on seasoned writer-producer Phil Klemmer as co-showrunner. It will debut at midseason on ABC in 2023.

The gravity-abused life of iconic stuntman Evel Knievel (1938-2007) was set to be chronicled by USA Network, which last year ordered a limited series, titled Evel, with Milo Ventimiglia tapped to star as the iconic daredevil. However, the world has obviously experienced significant changes since those plans were first spun, and it seems that the Covid-19 pandemic has caused Evel to wipe out from the cable channel’s production slate.
USA Network has scrapped Evel, according to THR. The project, which was picked up to series in September 2019, saw its New Mexico production—which was finishing location prep and was on the verge of rolling cameras—shut down this past March as the pandemic escalated. That move saw Ventimiglia and the rest of the cast—Sarah Gadon, David Krumholtz and Michael Chernus—sent home. Now, four months after that event, it seems that—rather than delaying production—the network has...

USA Network will not be going forward with Evel, its high-profile limited series starring This Is Us‘ Milo Ventimiglia as the larger-than-life ’70s daredevil Evel Knievel.
The limited series was to film during Ventimiglia’s hiatus from This Is Us. The project was fully cast and staffed; production was about to begin when it was forced to shut down on the last day of prep, March 13, due to the coronavirus pandemic.
With Ventimiglia’s window of availability closing, no definitive path to production restart in the U.S. amid a surge of new Covid-19 infections, which makes synching up everyone’s schedules a daunting proposition, a decision was made not to proceed with the series at USA.
Ucp, the studio behind the project, will be shopping it with Ventimiglia, who had been on board since Day 1, still attached. The rest of the cast has been released.

The Evel Knievel limited drama series starring Milo Ventimiglia is no longer moving forward at USA Network.
The decision to scrap the production at its original home was brought on by the production shutdown amid the pandemic. Production was about to begin when it was halted on its last day of prep on March 13, a person with knowledge of the situation tells TheWrap.
The studio behind the project, Universal Content Productions (Ucp), is shopping the project elsewhere in the hopes that it can still be made.

This is Us star Milo Ventimiglia will star in USA Network limited series Evel, showcasing the life of legendary daredevil Evel Knievel.
The gravity-abused life of iconic stuntman Evel Knievel (1938-2007) will be chronicled by USA Network, which has ordered a limited series, titled Evel.
Milo Ventimiglia, who currently stars on NBC television drama This is Us (which manifests under the same corporate umbrella as the cable channel), will play the eponymous daredevil on USA Network’s Evel, which he’ll also executive produce. The series will focus on a specific period in Knievel’s career, namely the preparatory build-up before his famously-failed jump across Snake River Canyon – a heavily hyped event that took place west of Idaho’s Shoshone Falls, on September 8, 1974, at 3:36 p.m. Mdt.
The limited series comes after a 2015 spate of contemplated-but-nixed Evel Knievel biographical projects from heavies like Martin Scorsese and Darren Aronofsky.
