It’s time for the punks to meet the godfathers. The creators of SopranosCon merged with MobMovieCon for a family celebration. From July 23 to July 25, Harrah’s Resort & Casino in Atlantic City will house the boardwalk’s biggest gangster gathering since Nucky Johnson hosted the mob’s Atlantic City Conference in 1929.
“Al Capone will not be coming though,” VirtualCons CEO Michael Mota tells Den of Geek. “Those were the mobsters. I would say this would be the biggest gathering of mobster wannabes.” The Sopranos fan convention has come a long way since it was dreamed up by three gangster movie aficionados from New York, Maryland, and Rhode Island. The 2019 SopranosCon drew thousands of fans from as far as The Netherlands and the United Kingdom to the Meadowlands Exposition Center in Secaucus. The whole idea of big Sunday dinners in Italian homes may seem like a cliché, but someone’s pouring tomato sauce on top of onions and garlic fried in olive oil on stovetops every weekend. The Sopranos, both the series and the two families at the center of it, brought just desserts every Sunday night to homes across America. Although, Carmela (Edie Falco) had been known to show up at neighbors’ homes mid-week, unannounced, with ricotta pie. It is only fitting that the main setting of Celebrating The Sopranos are fine dining establishments.
Consisting of three separate films, Celebrating The Sopranos is a series of conversations held by critics Matt Zoller Seitz and Alan Sepinwall, and cast members Federico Castelluccio (Furio Guinta), Arthur J. Nascarella (Carlo Gervasi), Vincent Pastore (Salvatore “Big Pussy’ Bonpensiero), and Vincent Curatola (Johnny ‘Sack’ Sacramoni), in restaurants that meant something to the show. For dessert, they...

The gangsters on HBO’s classic mob series The Sopranos never shied from their charitable duties. That’s what Mafiosi have done since the very beginning of their loose organization. Tony Soprano’s crew took care of the blessed statue for the Feast of Elzéar of Sabran. The family’s pork-store front had a Satriale’s Christmas party tradition going all the way back to Tony’s father, who wore a Santa Claus suit himself to give back to the kids of the neighborhood. SopanosCon, the annual convention which celebrates the series, is no different. They announced SopranosCon Cares, a live benefit tele-con to benefit First Responders’ Children’s Foundation.
SopranosCon was slated to be a special segment of MobMovieCon, which was scheduled to take place at Harrah’s Resort and Casino in Atlantic City, on April 18, 2020. But the Covid-19 pandemic forced it, and all group gatherings to be postponed or cancelled.

‘The Sopranos’ Oral History, Part III: While the show followed David Chase’s scripts to the letter, with no room for improvisation, the inherent subject matter of lawless men engaging in random explosive violence made for some hair-raising moments while filming the show.

Go figure. Peter Berg and Mark Wahlberg seem to bring out the very best in each other. Between Lone Survivor and now Patriots Day (Deepwater Horizon as well, to a lesser extent), the pair have found a niche in true life drama and heroism. This new film is their best yet, and actually one of 2016’s better works. It’s threatening to score a spot on my year end top ten list, which is something. Emotional, thrilling, and a seamless blend of history/action, this is a special movie. It deserves to find a large audience this week when it starts to hit theaters. The film is a dramatized look at the events surrounding the Boston Marathon bombing in 2013. In short, the events leading up to the terrorist attack and its aftermath are depicted, including the city-wide manhunt to find the people behind it. The protagonist is a composite character...

For the third time in as many years, director Peter Berg and Mark Wahlberg will collaborate to present another true-life account of heroism, tragedy and the power of the human spirit. In 2013, it was Lone Survivor that brought both creatives together, and the pair have since reteamed for the white-knuckle ride known as Deepwater Horizon.
Touting an all-star ensemble and some truly edge-of-your-seat action sequences, Horizon was arguably better than it had any right to be, documenting the true tale of heroism buried beneath the messy Bp oil spill of 2010. Their latest project is called Patriots Day, one poised to shift the spotlight three years forward.

With a starry world premiere for “Patriots Day” set to close AFI Fest 2016 this Thursday, distributor CBS Films has released the official trailer, and it’s as emotional as one would expect from a drama centering around the events of the Boston Marathon Bombing. The film is the second collaboration between Mark Wahlberg and Peter Berg to hit theaters this year, following “Deepwater Horizon in September. Along with “Lone Survivor,” the duo have become Hollywood’s go-to source for true stories of American heroism, and “Patriots Day” certainly continues the trend.

Patriots Day, CBS Films and Lionsgate’s real-life drama based on the marathon bombings that rocked the city of Boston three years ago, is already a crowded affair. But we now have word that the studios have recruited one final trio to feature in Peter Berg’s Oscar-tipped thriller.

Now entering the final stages of pre-production, The Wrap is reporting that Peter Berg’s Boston marathon drama Patriots’ Day has carried out what is surely the last casting spree before filming gets underway, this time adding Michael Beach, Alex Wolff and Themo Melikidze to its jam-packed ensemble.
According to the outlet, it is the latter two actors that will be playing the role of the radicalized terrorists (Dzhokhar and Tamerlan Tsarnaev) who brought the city of Boston to a standstill in April of 2013. Beach, on the other hand – best known for his recurring role of Pike in The 100 – is on board to portray Deval Patrick, the “governor of Massachusetts when terrorists struck the annual event in 2013.”
Since Berg and his Lone Survivor cohort Mark Wahlberg hatched Patriots’ Day, there’s been a flurry of activity surrounding the project, which quickly found a home at CBS Films and Lionsgate.

Welcome to the sixth installment of our summer trip through "The Sopranos" season 1. When I revisited early seasons of "The Wire," as well as the whole run of "Deadwood," I did separate versions of each review for newcomers and veterans, but over time realized that the newcomers weren't commenting much, if at all, and that it therefore made sense to simply do one review. Any significant spoilers for episodes beyond the one being reviewed will be contained in a separate section at the end of the review; so long as you avoid that, and the comments, you should be fine. Thoughts on the sixth episode, “Pax Soprana," coming up just as soon as I’m living next door to Gunga Din… “I love you. I’m in love with you. I’m sorry. It’s just the way it is.” -Tony One of the things I've most loved about covering...

I’ve always enjoyed a good mob story, and by “good” I mean a story that shows how destructive these so-called crime families are and how absolutely drained they leave a person of all hope and purpose. The Mafia is not a good thing and I like to see its members learn they’ve made a mistake getting involved in such a thing. I can’t say for sure if we’re going to see any such revelations, but for sure Elementary is going to tell some kind of mob story. Whether or not it’s my idea of good will be something that will have to wait until the episode actually airs, but at least we know the series is plucking some of the best names in the mob game.

I have no idea why this trailer for Killing Them Softly was banned, but Annapurna Pictures just tweeted it out and considering it was one of my absolute favorites of last year and the fact director Andrew Dominik is receiving some much deserved attention as of late, not only for this film but also for the resurgence of The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford, I felt I must share it. amz asin="B009AMALBM" size="small"If you have yet to see Killing Them Softly, first off "shame", secondly it's an adaptation of George V.
