“A few weeks ago, a young filmmaker named James Curran from the UK posted his own version of the “Tintin” title sequence,” said Vimeo creative director Jeremy Boxer. “Spielberg spotted it, then called him up and hired him.“ Steven Spielberg hires off of a Vimeo clip; could it happen to you? That's the theory and it's one that Boxer cites as the most recent example of a filmmaker using popular video sharing community Vimeo as platform as a professional launching pad. And he expects to see more of the same with the second annual Vimeo Festival + Awards. Submissions opened today; the inaugural festival attracted over 6,500 entrants and, according to Boxer, winners in multiple categories went on to land jobs with their work. Boxer, who also founded the Vimeo festival, spoke to Indiewire about how he created it to counter those festivals that reject short films that have been online and...

Ha! If we had a category for Awesome, that's where I'd file this. Last week we were one of the first to post about a fan-made opening credits sequence for The Adventures of Tintin that designer James Curran (known as @slimjimstudios) made and posted on Vimeo. I thought it was quite fun and worth featuring, but oh boy has it paid off. Edgar Wright, who co-wrote the Tintin script, recently tweeted (via CinemaBlend) that Steven Spielberg himself saw the video online, loved it, and invited Curran to the UK Tintin premiere and has even hired him to work on the "next movie" he's making. Whoa - congrats James! More info below. In related news about the next Tintin movie after this year's The Secret of the Unicorn, The Playlist/THR confirmed that Peter Jackson will definitely be directing that next following completing his work on The Hobbit. Spielberg directed the...

Here is a juvenile but humorous vid from Robot Chicken featuring Mark Hammil as The Joker in a Shawshank Redemption parody.. Next, it seems that Steven Spielberg was so impressed with James Curran's unofficial opening credits to The Adventures Of Tintin that he invited the Slimjim Studios animator to the premier of the movie and offered him a job on his next one. Details are few and far between but according to /Film that movie would most likely be Robopocalypse as Spielberg is currently finishing up work on Lincoln now. Here are the fan created opening credits.. The Adventures of Tintin from James Curran on Vimeo. Even though it's not really Cbm related, since we will see a 6 minute prologue for Tdkr with IMAX releases of the movie here is the new Photoshop happy poster for Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol And finally courtesy of Obviouswinner we have this fan...

Here's the deal: what if you made a bunch of toys for fun in your spare time, and somehow Santa Claus saw them and was like, "Dude, those are cool! You should be one of my Elves!!!"
That's kinda what happened recently when "Tintin" superfan James Curran made his own set of animated opening credits for the upcoming movie and the film's director, Steven Spielberg, actually saw them.
According to the Twitter feed of "Scott Pilgrim" director Edgar Wright, who co-wrote "The Adventures of Tintin," Spielberg dug the fanfilm so much that he not only invited Curran to the premiere but actually gave the man a job on his next film. Nice!
Considering how many of these unofficial tributes are made every year, either as exercises in film schools or by dedicated devotees of properties like "Batman," "Star Wars," and every anime you can think of, this is something of a minor miracle.

James Curran (aka Slimjim Studios [1]) made a great opening title sequence for Steven Spielberg's The Adventures of Tintin, and last week it earned the animator no small amount of new fans. One of those fans was evidently Steven Spielberg, who invited Curran to the premiere of Tintin this past weekend, and offered him a job. We don't have a lot of details yet. The basic intel comes from Tintin co-writer Edgar Wright, who said via Twitter [2], So @slimjimstudios [3] does unofficial #Tintin titles http://vimeo.com/30402976 [4], Spielberg sees 'em, give him invite to prem & job on next movie... I've contacted Curran to see if he would like to follow up with any additional info, though I expect he can't say much at all about his possible new gig. One would assume that would be on Robopocalypse, the film Spielberg is doing after Lincoln, but it is possible that Curran could...

Plenty of people would love the opportunity to work on a feature film, especially one directed by Steven Spielberg. And now a fan of "Tintin" got that opportunity after he decided to use his skill to create an opening for Spielberg's new movie. Nobody asked the fan, James Curran, to spend time putting together the opening, he simply did it for fun and to share on his Twitter page. Well... It turned out that Spielberg somehow saw the video and reached out to Curran. The Oscar-winning director was so impressed that he reached out to Curran and invited him to the UK premiere of "Adventures of Tintin," in addition to a paid gig on his next film, which may end up being "Lincoln," "Robopocalypse" or possibly the second "Tintin" installment. Check out the video, that just turned one man's life around, below. Video:...

Tintin fans are getting excited for the animated movie “The Adventures of Tintin.” James Curran of SlimJim Studios created an unofficial title sequence for the film. He used elements featured from each of the 24 Tintin books. The music is composed by Ray Parker and Tom Szczesniak. Even one of Tintin’s writers took notice. “So @slimjimstudios does unofficial #Tintin titles vimeo.com/30402976, Spielberg sees ‘em, give him invite to prem & job on next movie…” tweeted Edgar Wright over the weekend. Well, Curran certainly gained a fan. The story is about Tintin, an intrepid young reporter whose relentless pursuit of a good story thrusts him into a world of high adventure. The animation voice cast includes Jamie Bell (“Billy Elliot,” “Jumper”), Andy Serkis (“The Lord of the Rings” “The Prestige”), Daniel Craig (“Casino Royale,” “Munich”), Simon Pegg (“Shaun of the Dead,” “Hot Fuzz”), Nick Frost (“Paul,” “Pirate Radio”), Gad Elmaleh (“Priceless,...

Here's a good news story. A UK based animator (and obviously a Tin Tin fan) created his own intro for The Adventures of Tin Tin. It eventually caught the eyes of Steven Spielberg, who subsequently got in touch with James Curran and not only invited him to the UK premiere but also gave him a job on his next film! The video created by Curran is below! Congrats :) Via Edgar Wright The Adventures of Tintin from James Curran on Vimeo.

Last week we shared a great fan-made opening title sequence to Steven Spielberg's upcoming new film The Adventures of Tintin. Spielberg saw the opening animated sequence, loved it and actually ended up hiring it's creator James Curran. That's one lucky guy, but that's what happens when you put yourself out there like he did.
The news came from Titin screenwriter Edgar Wright who said via twitter,
So @slimjimstudios does unofficial #Tintin titles, Spielberg sees 'em, give him invite to prem & job on next movie..."
How awesome is that! This is the type of thing that should inspire you to put yourself out there, if you have a talent share it with the world on the internet, because you never know who it will end up in front of. If it impresses people, you may find yourself with a new job doing what you love to do.

An enterprising Tintin fan has been handed the job of a lifetime by Steven Spielberg after impressing the moviemaker with his inspirational take on the opening credits for the director's new film.
James Curran posted his idea for an animated opening sequence for Spielberg's The Adventures of Tintin online and the mogul saw it.
Impressed, Spielberg invited Curran to the U.K. premiere of the film on Sunday - and then offered him a job on his next movie.
The Adventures of Tintin screenwriter Edgar Wright tweeted the news during the premiere and sources close to the director claim he will work with Curran on Robopocalypse.

You know the expression, "Dress for the job you want, not the job you have"?
Well, this is kind of like that. Except better.
This is the story of James Curran, a talented graphic designer who, out of sheer love for the Herge adventure series, "Tintin," decided to put his motion graphics skills to work and make the opening credits for Steven Spielberg's big screen release. Just for fun.
And guess what? The titles found its way to the head honcho himself (imagine that hey-this-kid's-got-talent! sequence) and Spielberg, so impressed by Curran's work, invited him to "Tintin's" UK premiere. And then he offered him a job on his next film. (Yes. Really.)
"The Adventures of Tintin: The Secret of The Unicorn" co-writer Edgar Wright confirmed the soon-to-be legendary tale via twitter.
So, now we have a choice: Do we hate Curran for landing a dream job or applaud him for landing a dream job?...

In the old days, if you wanted to get discovered in Hollywood you had to sit in a malt shop or walk down streets near studios and hope someone spotted you and saw your potential. Times have changed – and now the best way to catch Tinseltown’s eye seems to be by making a video and putting it on the Internet. This strategy has paid off in a big way for London-based artist/animator James Curran. Last week, Curran had the Internet abuzz with his homemade animated opening credit sequence for Steven Spielberg’s upcoming The Adventures of Tintin. Apparently, Spielberg himself saw the artist’s work – and was so captivated by it (rightly so – it’s excellent) that he’s not only flying Curran to America for the film’s debut, but...

Once upon a time, in a land not so far away, a man created something so cool that the great king saw it and gave the man the job of a lifetime. Such is the fairy tale of James Curran, a name many graphic designers will be envious of for many years to come. Curran, like thousands of other artists, made something because he wanted to, not because he was getting paid, and now he.s going to be well paid, probably for the rest of his life. As we all know, The Adventures of Tintin will be hitting theaters this this Christmas, and Curran, being a huge fan of the original Herge comics, created a set of opening credits using his motion design skills, just because he felt like it. Generally, artists create, release, and after the initial glut of cheers and/or jeers interest in the piece fizzles.

Remember last week when we posted those fan-made opening credits for Tintin? Well if you thought they were pretty amazing, you weren't the only one... There's a lot of Tintin around today thanks to the reviews [1] that hit the web over the past couple days. But none of those items are as much fun as this unofficial opening credits sequence. The animation below is the work of animator James Curran, who stripped ideas and images from the twenty-four Tintin books by Herge down into icons, and then animated them into a lovely fluid credits sequence. We know from reviews that Steven Spielberg's Tintin boasts a visually distinctive opening sequence of its own (it is drawing comparisons to the credits of Catch Me if You Can) so Curran was on the right track in imagining a way to open the movie. Check out his approach below. The Adventures of Tintin [2] from James Curran [3] on Vimeo [4]. Steven Spielberg probably has his own vision for the opening credits for "The Adventures of Tintin," but James Curran, our new favorite animator, has an idea. Make them perfect! From the primary colors to the clean abstract look, Curran's aesthetic is a pretty faithful homage to the Belgian cartoon. The fact that the actors' names are included is just an added bonus.

We.ve featured a few fan made credit videos for various things like The Walking Dead and X-men: First Class, and I have to say, they are some of my favorite Cool Videos installments because they.re just so damn good. This new credit sequence for The Adventures Of Tintin only furthers that point. It.s made by James Curran, and uses a sphere as a central focus to introduce us to the many faces and locales of the Tintin series. Time for something fun! Thanks to numerous updates on Awards Daily, there's lots to talk about regarding Tintin. First up, we have a fantastic new fan-made opening credit sequence for Steven Spielberg & Peter Jackson's The Adventures of Tintin that is fully graphic animated and totally awesome. It's made by James Curran (via Vimeo) and is an "unofficial" title sequence that features elements from each of the 24 books, using music from the TV series by Ray Parker & Tom Szczesniak. If you didn't already hear, Tintin is also getting some rave reviews out of the UK, including one from Empire and a few others from the trades. Our friends at Awards Daily also have the best quotes pulled from Empire and Variety/Hollywood Reporter, who've called it a "visually dazzling adaptation" with "immense sensitivity" and a "delirium of creativity." The Adventures of Tintin: The Secret of the Unicorn was originally directed...
