Years after "The Sopranos" started what we consider the Peak TV era, there came a show that changed network TV forever: "Lost." It's a show that is as controversial as it is influential, one that helped bring serialization to mainstream TV, make the showrunner as recognizable among TV obsessives as the actors on screen, and delivered one of the most controversial endings in history (though it is a perfect send-off for the show).
Much like "Star Wars," it doesn't matter where you fall on the love/hate scale of "Lost," there is one thing all fans can agree on — the score remains consistently stellar throughout.
A big part of why "Lost" is still talked about so many years later is Michael Giacchino's score. There is a reason why Giacchino has played multiple concerts celebrating the music of the show since it ended in 2010, and why hundreds of people from...

[Warning: The below contains Major spoilers for NCIS: Hawai’i Season 3 Episode 9 “Spill the Tea.”] Compound X is no joke, as an entire team learns by the end of the first part of the NCIS: Hawai’i series finale. Sam’s (LL Cool J) read Jane (Vanessa Lachey) in about the Elite team when he had her interrogate the Chemist. Ernie (Jason Antoon) found out about it when Sam had him look at an encrypted laptop and he found that when Elite accessed it, their system had been compromised. And now, Lucy (Yasmine Al-Bustami) may or may not have dislocated one of the Elite agents’ shoulders when he tells her to get in a van; inside already are Jesse (Noah Mills) and Kai (Alex Tarrant). They’re taken, blindfolded, to Elite’s secret holding facility, where they’re told the Chemist was found murdered that morning. Swift (Henry Ian Cusick) has been the one interrogating him, but fortunately,...

At the end of the last episode of NCIS: Hawai’i, Sam (LL Cool J) learned, after he had Ernie (Jason Antoon) get into a laptop the Elite team found in one of The Chemist’s labs, that the entire operation was compromised. There was a Trojan horse that was activated the moment anyone tried to break into the internal files, and it infected whatever system tried to access it—and the Elite team was the first to do so. Whoever planted it had been in the Elite server for three days. Now, in the two-part series finale—CBS has canceled Hawai’i after three seasons—it’s time to figure out who’s responsible, and this case brings Agent John Swift (Henry Ian Cusick), as we previously reported, back to the island. TV Insider has an exclusive sneak peek of him filling Jane (Vanessa Lachey) in on the case in the April 29 episode.

Reflections on a Decade of Survival As we commemorate the tenth anniversary of The 100, we delve into the untold narratives and scrapped storylines that could have reshaped the journey of humanity’s last survivors. The series, known for its complex characters and moral quandaries, left an indelible mark on the sci-fi genre, with fans still yearning for more insights into the show’s pivotal decisions. Our conversations with Richard Harmon, Lindsey Morgan, and Henry Ian Cusick unearthed fascinating revelations about their characters—John Murphy and Raven Reyes—and their unexpected evolutions. We also touch upon Cusick’s directorial contributions, which added a unique depth

The 100 knew how to do a redemption arc. Throughout its seven-season run on The CW, post-apocalyptic sci-fi drama repeatedly doubled down on one of its many thought-provoking mantras: there are no good guys. The “good guys” often did terrible things in the name of survival, and the “bad guys” were rarely through-and-through evil (although they could be “cockroaches”). Timed to the recent 10-year anniversary of the series premiere, we chatted with Richard Harmon, Lindsey Morgan, and Henry Ian Cusick about how they came to join the show, the extent to which Harmon and Cusick saw their characters as villains during the first season, and why they think The 100 has stuck around in the sci-fi genre. Murphy wasn’t originally Murphy: he was “John #1,” and he wasn’t meant to live past the show’s second episode. Harmon recalled the process of first auditioning for the show: “I originally auditioned for the role of Bellamy,...

We’re just about halfway through NCIS: Hawai’i‘s third season, but we’re already looking ahead to the two-part finale—and have some teases about what to expect! “There’s NCIS Elite. There are two special visits,” Alex Tarrant (who plays Kai) tells TV Insider. We have confirmed that one of the two familiar guest stars popping up in the Season 3 finale is Agent John Swift (Henry Ian Cusick), with the other remaining a mystery. (This will be Cusick’s second appearance this season.) “There is definitely a special twist that comes in towards the end. It was a shock to me when I was reading the scripts, that’s for sure,” Tarrant continues. And yes, the finale “most definitely … ends on a cliffhanger.” He’s also excited because “Kai actually hasn’t had very many fights this season, but in the finale, we really get to...

[Warning: The below contains Major spoilers for NCIS: Hawai’i Season 3 Episode 3 “License to Thrill.”] Why is Sam (LL Cool J) in Hawai’i? That’s the mystery that’s been set up across the first three episodes of NCIS: Hawai’i Season3, and as Vanessa Lachey told us, “Tennant will figure it out.” Well, we’re certainly seeing her trying to do just that. It all began in the premiere, when Ernie (Jason Antoon) tried to get anything out of Sam, only to come to the conclusion that he’s hiding something, despite the agent’s insistence he’s not. Then, in the second episode, Swift (Henry Ian Cusick), on his way out, told Tennant that Sam was sticking around and she’d have to ask him why. Sam evaded the question and would only say that brass has him teaching a seminar on unconventional tactics in modern law enforcement. Now, in the third episode, Ernie...

A new episode of NCIS: Hawai’i has a surprise for viewers and boss Jane Tennant (played by Vanessa Lachey).
Supervisor Agent John Swift of the Office of Special Projects (played by Henry Ian Cusick) is back.
His title is a mouthful, but his job seems to encompass more than previously revealed.
Swift first appeared in the final two episodes of NCIS: Hawai’i Season 2 (Past Due and Dies Irae).
While he is on the side of bringing down the bad guys, he does it in a way that can ruffle the feathers of people he works with. Add Tennant to that list.
Now Swift is back for NCIS: Hawai’i Season 3, Episode 2, and he has a surprising revelation for Tennant.
Who is Henry Ian Cusick on the NCIS: Hawai’i cast?
Cusick is probably best known for his role as Desmond Hume on Lost. The character was mysterious and brought much intrigue to the hit ABC show.

The actors are set to vote on the tentative agreement with the studios after the SAG-AFTRA national board approved the deal.
However, National Executive Director and Chief Negotiator Duncan Crabtree-Ireland said that the board only approved the deal by 86%, not a unanimous vote.

Voting will begin on Tuesday, according to Crabtree-Ireland, and will end in the first week of December.

Lost fans are preparing to go back.
It has been announced that, 20 years after the show premiered, a new documentary detailing the show’s groundbreaking success will be released.
The film, titled Getting Lost, will tell the entire story of how Lost became the biggest cult show on the planet, generating intense fan discussion and theories on the internet throughout its six seasons on air.
Getting Lost is also set to address – and hopefully put to bed – the furore surrounding the show’s finale, which has gone down in history as one of the most misunderstood endings of all time.
Find The Independent’s deep dive on the finale, featuring words from co-showrunner Damon Lindelof, Henry Ian Cusick (Desmond) and L Scott Caldwell (Rose), here.
The film will be overseen by filmmaker Taylor Morden, who directed The Last Blockbuster.

For better or worse, Lost was one of the most influential shows of the past couple of decades. The series, which follows a group of survivors after their plane crash-lands on a mysterious island, sparked a cultural phenomenon with its compelling characters and supernatural mysteries. And one of the ABC show’s most prominent characters had a role written just for them.

One of the best parts of "Lost" season one was its flashback structure. This was a show with a massive cast, and having each episode give us a close look at a specific character's life helped to make them all feel special and compelling. The "Lost" writers understood how to play with our expectations, so season 1 was filled with flashbacks that radically reshaped our understanding of certain characters. Most notable is "Walkabout," the fourth episode of the series, which reveals in its final moments that John Locke (Terry O'Quinn) had been paralyzed from the waist down prior to the plane crash.
Even when it wasn't blowing our minds with any big revelations, the flashback structures still helped to deepen our understanding of each character and add context to their current struggles. If "Lost" had chosen to simply stick to the on-island storylines, the show would've been worse off for it.

Jamojaya takes its name after a legend: As relayed in an animated sequence narrated by Joyo (Yayu A.W. Unru), Jamojaya was a prince transformed against his will into a banyan tree. In an act of love, his brother turns himself into a bird to look for him. But their inability to communicate keeps a proper reunion forever out of reach — the bird unable to recognize his brother’s new form, the tree unable to reveal himself even when his brother stands in his branches.
It’s a story Joyo adores so much he’s named his two sons after it: James (Brian Imanuel), now an up-and-coming rapper, and Jaya, who died years ago in a plane crash. And its sense of searching permeates the entire picture, to mostly moving, occasionally frustrating effect.

As a director, Justin Chon has long trafficked in stories about fractured families in heightened situations. “Gook” was about a pair of brothers running their father’s shoe store in the aftermath of his death and in the shadow of the Los Angeles riots. “Ms. Purple” followed estranged siblings trying to make amends with their father before his death. “Blue Bayou” cast Chon himself as an immigrant father attempting to stay in the U.S. while the government tries to toss him out.
Fathers, children, and terrible outside forces are also at play in his fifth feature film, “Jamojaya,” which continues Chon’s traditional obsessions but wraps them in filled with predictable problems, obvious baddies, and trite lessons. In expanding his viewpoint beyond his typically smaller-scale stories — both in terms of the film’s general plot, which follows a rising young rapper who learns (gasp) that the music industry is bad,...

Up-and-coming Indonesian rapper James (Brian Imanuel) has taken a major professional leap signing with an international label. But just as the music execs are eager to take his music global, they demand he dilute his cultural identity to appeal to industry trends in the West. Yet “Jamojaya” –the new feature from director Justin Chon, premiering at Sundance — is only partially about James’ tug of war with the greedy forces impatient to exploit him. A familial fissure haunts him as well.
The rising star has chosen to part ways professionally with his father and now former manager Joyo (Yayu A.W. Unru), a decision the latter hasn’t taken well. Under pressure to record his album in Hawaii, James initially welcomes his dad’s presence during an unexpected visit. The more time they spent together, however, the more toxic their exchanges turn.

Before Covid upended the film festival scene, Sundance premieres were a hotbed of drama as studio chiefs and streaming executives staked out the best seats in the theater and then beat a path for the exits as soon as the credits rolled in the hopes of outmaneuvering each other for the hottest films. After two years of going virtual, Sundance is back in-person. However, it’s unclear if the all-night bidding wars that were such a staple of past festivals will also return in force. At a time of cost-cutting and box office struggles for indie movies, a new era of fiscal restraint may be the order of the day.
But Sundance’s thin mountain air could cause all that economizing to evaporate. And if it does, here are 13 films that could have buyers writing big checks.

Jensen Ackles and Katheryn Winnick in ‘Big Sky’ season 3 episode 1 (ABC/Michael Moriatis)
A hiker’s threatened by a creepy stranger and falls to his death in the first few minutes of ABC’s Big Sky season three episode one. Plus, it’s disclosed Cassie (Kylie Bunbury) broke up with Mark, and he and Jerrie are off hunting the cartel. (Cassie says what we all think – Mark and Jerrie are good together.) And Jenny (Katheryn Winnick), Cassie, and Denise (Dedee Pfeiffer) all agree Beau really fills out his jeans – all before the opening credits roll.
We also quickly learn the detective agency’s main case this season will be figuring out what happened to the missing hiker.
Beau (Jensen Ackles) scores major points by complimenting Denise’s veggie lasagna. Cassie notes Denise – who she calls Mrs. Robinson – has never cooked lasagna for her as Jenny and Beau head off to work.

We have to go back, /Film readers! Back to the Island filled with research stations, smoke monsters, birds that shout "Hurley!," eerie whispers, and mystical electromagnetic fields that heal paralysis. Although "Lost" premiered almost two decades ago, it left a lasting impact on television -- inspiring a plethora of mystery shows, including everything from ABC's "Flashforward" and Epix's "From." The ABC show fueled the audience's appetite for serialized and mystery-forward storytelling. Additionally, "Lost" launched the careers of many people involved -- not least of all "Watchmen" showrunner Damon Lindelof.
Looking back at "Lost," it's incredible to track where the show began and how its twists forever altered characters' fates.
