Dexter season 6 returns to slice up a third outing with this week’s “Smokey and the Bandit,” as our favorite serial killer hunts down one of his childhood inspirations and Deb settles into the role of the Miami Metro Lieutenant. Those looking for progress in the major storylines this season won’t find much to go on, but even stand-alone Dexter has something to offer, if only an amusing distraction.
I mentioned in my review of the premiere that first and foremost about Dexter’s sixth season was a renewed sense of energy and fun, something “Smokey and the Bandit” certainly runs with as we watch Dexter coddling retiree Walter Kenney to prove his identity as legendary serial killer the “Tooth Fairy.” There’s plenty of humor to be mined from Dexter partnered with a grumpy old pervert, but I kept coming back to the notion that the Tooth Fairy...

The Wrap was offering casting news this week regarding our favorite blood spatter expert, Dexter, and his Showtime drama. It seems Lights Out actor Billy Brown is coming to the show. Showtime said he will portray “hard-nosed homicide detective Mike Cutler, who moves from Chicago to Miami Metro and begins to shake things up.” We all know what happened to Doakes, so Cutler better watch his 6.
Lot’s of stars are lining up for the highly anticipated 6th season of the series. Edward James Olmos has signed on, as has Mos Def. If those two appear to be “good guys” then speculation continues that Colin Hanks, also joining the fresh new season might be a baddie.
You might have thought it was too early, but it isn’t. Here is a season 6 trailer! Will “all hell” break loose? When Dexter is in the mix, it often does.

The sixth season of Showtime's hit drama "Dexter" has just gained another guest star, but we still don't know who'll play our favorite serial killer's nemesis. "Lights Out" actor Billy Brown has joined the cast as hard-nosed homicide detective Mike Cutler, who moves from Chicago to Miami Metro and begins to shake things up, Showtime said. He doesn't exactly sound like the next Trinity Killer. Also read: 'Dexter' Season 6 Trailer Is a Bloody Good Time (Video) But then again, neither does just-announced guest star Edward James Olmos. The ghost of James Doakes is alive and well!
What else could make Dexter producers want to bring a tough, no-nonsense homicide detective that immediately ruffles a few feathers once he transfers to Miami Metro from the Chicago Police Department? Aside from the Chi-town connection, doesn’t that sound just like Doakes?
Lights Out star Billy Brown is filling said role as a character named Mike Cutler for Dexter’s sixth season. Expect him to bring the pain just as Erik King did as Sergeant Doakes during the first two seasons of the show. Brown most recently played Death Row Reynolds on FX’s short-lived Lights Out, serving as the nemesis to Patrick “Lights” Leary (Holy McCallany).
I’m expecting this Cutler character to piss off everyone in Miami Metro, primarily Dexter. The question is – will he just butt heads with people or will his sleuthing skills land him close to Dexter’s secret?...

Billy Brown is the latest actor to sign on for a recurring role on Dexter.
Following the frak-tastic news about Edward James Olmos, The Hollywood Reporter says Brown - who played a significant part on Lights Out this year - will come on board season six as Mike Cutler.
The character is a Chicago homicide detective who transfers to Miami and doesn't get along well with Deb, Angel and company.
Dexter will return with new episodes, and go back to its roots apparently, in September.
