After months on political life support, Ron DeSantis has finally put himself — and everyone else — out of his misery and suspended his campaign for the 2024 Republican nomination. While the Florida governor ran on a wet dream policy package for extremist, culture war-obsessed conservatives, his campaign simply could not overcome its biggest obstacle: Ron DeSantis himself.

Sacha Baron Cohen’s latest stunt over the weekend at a far-right militia group’s rally was not done for any potential second season of “Who Is America?”
A person familiar with “Who Is America?” production told TheWrap there are still no plans for a second season of the series, which aired in 2018. Baron Cohen has previously said he was not going to do another season of the satirical series, though Showtime had previously said it would more than a welcome one if he ever changed his mind.
Baron Cohen on Saturday infiltrated the rally of a far-right militia group called 3% of Washington in Olympia, Washington, and told a series of “racist and anti-Semitic” jokes while encouraging the crowd to participate, organizers of the event said.

“Don’t Be a Knucklehead” — the signs glow above highways all over New Jersey like the eyes of Doctor T. J. Eckleburg in The Great Gatsby. Just as the faded optician sign stood in for God in the 1925 F. Scott Fitzgerald novel, the highway signs sub in for Governor Phil Murphy, gazing sternly yet benevolently across the coronavirus-addled landscape of the second most-infected state in the nation. “Stay home,” he chides via the signs, “Wash your hands.”

Birds of Prey director Cathy Yan breaks down the complications of having Margot Robbie in roller skates during the big fight scene.
"One of the most compelling aspects of Birds of Prey is how all the female cast members committed to being able to do their own stunts in order to allow for a long take whenever possible. Now, it’s already hard to film a huge fight scene in normal conditions, but doing it in a funhouse and with one of your big stars on rollerskates? Yeah, not an easy task, as director Cathy Yan breaks down in this Anatomy of a Scene video."

Maybe Joe Biden has been in politics too long. When he finally announced his run this week, he found he’d outlived the campaign cliché that once would have carried him to the White House: “electability.”
After his launch, it seemed like the press didn’t know whether to describe Biden as “electable” or not. There was widespread pundit paralysis about the very meaning of the word, to the point where it’s no longer clear whether the term has positive or negative connotations.

Back in mid-December, before setting out on his vision-quest road trip, Beto O’Rourke held one last town hall as El Paso’s three-term congressman. By then, he had already seen himself rapidly become the Democratic establishment’s dream candidate for president after narrowly losing his U.S. Senate challenge to Ted Cruz — “He’s Barack Obama, but white,” one big donor gushed to Politico. And then, just as quickly, he’d watched his voting record (more conservative than many Democrats) and “bipartisan” rhetoric undergo a level of harsh scrutiny he...

CBS Films is in final negotiations to acquire the North American rights to Ron Howard’s “Pavarotti” documentary, the distributor announced Tuesday.
Mark Monroe wrote the film, while Nigel Sinclair, Brian Grazer, Howard, Michael Rosenberg and Jeanne Elfant Festa are serving as producers. David Blackman and Dickon Stainer are serving as executive producers.
“Luciano Pavarotti’s exuberant personality, astounding voice and charm earned him world acclaim in his lifetime. He upended the world of classical music and, most importantly, brought opera back to the people. It’s hard to believe ten years have passed since Luciano left the world; however, through the making of this film, we have been fortunate enough to rediscover Pavarotti’s magic and humanity,” Howard said. “I’m thrilled to bring that same power and emotion to audiences and screens around the world.”

Bad news for anyone who had hopes of enjoying a few rancor-free months of 2019 before the presidential-election insanity begins. Not only is the race fully on, we’re already in our third or fourth toxic electoral narrative — the most recent involving that most infamous campaign cliché, “electability.”

Washington — Sen. Bernie Sanders (D-vt) holds a commanding lead in a new poll of liberal grassroots activists conducted by Democracy for America, the lefty activist group founded by former Vermont governor and 2004 presidential candidate Howard Dean.
In a field of 23 candidates, Sanders claimed 36 percent of the first-place votes by Dfa activists, more than double the percentage of former Vice President Joe Biden, who finished in second with 15 percent. Rep. Beto O’Rourke (D-tx), who narrowly lost his Senate race against Republican Ted Cruz last month, took third place with 12 percent.

Over the past few weeks, multiple outlets have published negative pieces about Warren in particular, deploying coverage gimmicks used to disparage candidates early in presidential campaigns before.

“It’s not a biopic, it’s not a movie about a person, it’s a movie about a moment,” says filmmaker Jason Reitman about his latest film The Front Runner which opens on Election Day.
In the film, Hugh Jackman plays embattled U.S. Presidential Democratic candidate Gary Hart. Though the Hart scandal occurred when Reitman was a ten-year-old kid, he became fascinated by the Colorado senator’s derailed run at the presidency when news broke that he was having an extramarital affair with Donna Rice. Within a week’s time after the news happened, Hart was out of the 1988 race.

The finale episode of “Who Is America” ended with Sacha Baron Cohen making jokes about the idea of killing his girlfriend with O. J. Simpson, and asking Simpson how he “got away with it.”
Baron Cohen met with Simpson while playing one of his characters, a rich Italian man named Gio. During their discussion, Gio introduced Simpson to his girlfriend, but after she left the room, Gio said that sometimes he had a hard time with her.

Sarah Palin didn’t have to worry about appearing on Sacha Baron Cohen’s “Who Is America?” after all.
Baron Cohen’s Showtime show featured the comedian playing a variety of characters who interviewed unwitting real people, frequently political figures — and often got them to say and do some pretty stupid things. The final episode of “Who Is America?” Season 1 included segments featuring former Massachusetts Rep. Barney Frank and O. J. Simpson, but the season concluded without airing a much-anticipated segment shot with the former Alaska governor and vice presidential candidate.
The Alaska Republican and former running mate of John McCain said last month she had been “duped” by Baron Cohen and claimed that the British comedian had disguised himself as a disabled veteran to interview her for his Showtime series.

Howard Dean, Vermont’s former Democratic governor, proved a match for Sacha Baron Cohen last night on Showtime’s Who Is America?, refusing to take the bait when Cohen’s alter-ego, the alt-right Billy Wayne Ruddick Jr., insisted that Hillary Clinton is a man.
And though Dean dismissed the conspiracy theory – fueled by obviously doctored photo of a pants-bulging Hillary – he did engage slightly during the ridiculous conversation. Not to mention that he sat down with the fake in the first place.
When Cohen/Ruddick produced the photo, Dean first attempted to explain it as a bad press from the drycleaner. Another doctored photo, of Clinton standing at a urinal, prompted Dean to note explain that any photo can be doctored, even one to make Donald Trump appear in drag.

It's the case of the sniffles heard around the country. The small noises made by Donald Trump throughout the first presidential debate didn't go unnoticed. Social media users and late-night comedians were quick to comment on the Republican nominee's sniffles, many making comparisons to recent health concerns raised about his opponent, Hillary Clinton. Some Twitter users joked that Trump's sniffles were the result of pneumonia, an obvious reference to the Democratic nominee's recent bout with the illness. Several mock accounts were made dedicated to the topic. #MakeAmericaSniffAgain— Trump's sniffle (@TrumpSniffle) September 27, 2016 Trump keeps sniffing. This is making Hillary look healthy.
