Christian critics in the Us praise the spiritual candour and apparent faith in a deity expressed in Alfonso Cuaron's film, which George Clooney denies writing a key scene
• Your questions for Gravity star Sandra Bullock
It has picked up almost universally positive reviews and is being tipped for Oscars glory next year. Now Alfonso Cuaron's Gravity has begun to pick up praise from a surprising source - Christian critics who say the 3D space spectacular celebrates the presence of God in the universe.
Paul Asay of the Christian review blog Plugged In said Gravity showed "the paradoxes of the Christian faith echoed on the screen" and appeared to reference resurrection themes, the concept of a personal interaction with God and of hope in the afterlife.
"The film deals with spirituality honestly, not explicitly from a Christian perspective, but you can take it as such," he told the Christian Post.

Los Angeles — Seems Warner Bros. has taken movie marketing to a whole new level – even higher than a bird or a plane.
The studio enlisted Christian-focused firm Grace Hill Media to promote "Man of Steel" to faith-based groups by inviting them to early screenings and creating trailers that highlight the film's religious themes. They also enlisted Craig Detweiler, a Pepperdine University professor and author of "Into the Dark: Seeing the Sacred in the Top Films of the 21st Century," to create a Superman-centric sermon outline for pastors titled "Jesus: The Original Superhero."
"Let's consider how Superman's humble origins, his high calling and his transforming sacrifice point us towards Jesus, the original superhero," the notes read.
The tale of Superman has long been associated with religious allegories. "Man of Steel," which stars British actor Henry Cavill in the titular role, doesn't shy away from that theme, including portraying the character as 33 years old,...

Dedicated website invites clergymen to utilise Superman myth as a mechanism for 'educating and uplifting' Christian audiences
Hollywood studio Warner Bros is targeting Christian audiences in the Us with a campaign for its superhero blockbuster Man of Steel that explicitly compares Superman to Jesus.
The studio has teamed up with a specialist marketing firm with the aim of encouraging pastors to utilise Zack Snyder's comic book reboot in sermons. It has set up a special website touting a nine-page pamphlet entitled Jesus – the Original Superhero. Clergymen are encouraged to "educate and uplift your congregation" using the resource, which also highlights a useful clip from the movie.
"Superman's mythical origins are rooted in the timeless reality of a spiritual superhero who also lived a modest life until extraordinary times required a supernatural response," the notes read. "Jesus was sent by his Father to bear our burdens, to right our wrongs,...

Aggressively going after faith-based audiences, Warner Bros. and Grace Hill Media are comparing Superman to Jesus as a way to trumpet Man of Steel and encourage ministers across the country to speak about the film. The comparison between Jesus and the marquee D.C. Comics superhero is repeatedly referred to in sermon notes posted on MinistryResources.Org written by Craig Detweiler, an author, filmmaker and cultural commentator who is an associate professor of communications at Pepperdine University. Entitled "Jesus - The Original Superhero," the nine-page document is available for download on the special Man of Steel Ministry Resource site,
