From Kartik Aaryan To Alia Bhatt – Will These Youngsters Redeem Their Lost Glory At Box Office In 2024 (Picture Credit: Facebook)
The year 2024 has already started on a nice note, with Merry Christmas being appreciated and growing by word of mouth. On the other hand, the South Indian film HanuMan is also performing decently at the Hindi Box Office. So far, so good. This satisfactory performance will escalate once Hrithik Roshan and Deepika Padukone fly high with Fighter in two weeks.
However, the year 2024 has been currently grabbing headlines for two reasons – A. Absence of major box office stars – Shah Rukh Khan, Salman Khan, Aamir Khan, Ranbir Kapoor, and Ranveer Singh, and B. Ajay Devgn and Akshay Kumar overpopulating the year with as many as eight releases between the two of them.

Salaar Box Office Day 11 (Early Trends): Prabhas Starrer Might Register A Jump Doing Better Than Shah Rukh Khan’s Dunki Doing Well On New Year’s Holiday ( Photo Credit – Hombale Films / YouTube )

Growth in almost every region, selling over 2,68,000 tickets online in the 24-hour time-frame, Prabhas’ starrer has checked all the right box office bringing home a good number.

Salaar (2023) unfolds as an action-packed drama and an edgy exploration of friendship, portraying the lengths one is willing to go to safeguard those held dear. It draws inspiration from Prashanth Neel’s debut film Ugramm (2014) and opens with a sequence that begins in 1985. The camaraderie between them is exemplified when Deva, in a daring act, engages in a fierce wrestling match to reclaim Vardha’s cherished nose ring, the symbol worn by their clan. Vardha reciprocates by rescuing Deva’s mother from peril at the hands of his own father’s henchmen, a courageous deed that prompts him to relinquish a substantial portion of their clan’s territory. Later that fateful night, Deva, accompanied by his mother (Easwari Rao), leaves Khansaar for good, disappearing into the shadows. Fast forward to 2017, and...

Leaning full-tilt into its duology structure, Tollywood action drama “Salaar: Part 1 – Ceasefire” has a winding, often confounding narrative aimed at building up a sequel, but its maximalist action tableaus always yield dividends. After his previous two-parter “K.G.F.” smashed Indian box-office records for Kannada-language films, director Prashanth Neel employs the talents of ultra-charismatic superstar Prabhas (the star of S.S. Rajamouli’s “Baahubali” series) as the silent, stewing protagonist Deva, in a grimy guns-and-gangsters melodrama.
At first, the story plays its cards close to its chest before transforming wildly and suddenly into a mythological epic about secret societies and millennia-old blood feuds. At 174 minutes long, with nested flashbacks overflowing with exposition, the movie has lengthy stretches that can feel like a chore. However, each extraneous segment eventually converges in some of the most exhilarating and cathartic on-screen violence Indian cinema has to offer.

Salaar means ‘Leader’, ‘Chief’ or ‘Commander’ The Telugu epic action drama film ‘Salaar: Part 1 – Ceasefire’s core plot is inspired from Kgf maker Prashanth Neel’s debut Kannada film ‘Ugramm’. Salaar is about this city of Khansaar (a place outside India), where Raja Mannar (Jagapathi Babu) plans to make his son Vardharaja Mannar (Prithviraj Sukumaran) his successor. However, Raja Mannar’s ministers and advisors plan a coup d’état (an illegal and overt attempt by a military) to kill them by hiring armies from Russia and Serbia to attack Vardharaja and Khansaar. Vardharaja manages to escape from Khansaar and meets his childhood friend Deva (Prabhas), who learns about the coup and sets out to make Vardharaja as the undisputed successor of Khansaar.
Though that is the broad plot-line, but it would hardly matter when you hop on the Salaar ride. It’s a cinematic roller coaster ride to say the least.

Quicker Review Of Salaar (Picture Credit: Facebook)
The D-Day is finally here as one of the most highly-anticipated Indian films, Salaar, has released in theatres. So, is this long wait worth all the hype? Let me share my experience of watching the film’s first half!
So, I am watching the first-day first show of the film at 7 am, and surprisingly, the theatre is almost 40% full, which clearly shows the film’s buzz on the ground. With the loaded atmosphere in a theatre, we’re straightaway introduced to the dark world of director Prashanth Neel.

CinemaIn ‘Natchathiram Nagargiradhu’, Pa Ranjith has shredded the plot and characters of ‘Minsara Kanavu’ to derive a more assertive narrative about love.It has been one year since Natchathiram Nagargiradhu released in cinemas worldwide. While some have enthusiastically appreciated Pa Ranjith’s attempt at addressing a range of contemporary socio-political topics, others have called it an experiment gone sour. Most commentators, however, agree that this movie saw the filmmaker flexing a novel story-telling muscle to communicate abstract yet progressive ideas. There is one fine detail that most reviewers and critics seem to have missed. Natchathiram Nagargiradhu has not emerged from a blank canvas. Instead, it artfully continues a conversation that was set in motion long ago. In the groundbreaking BBC docu series Ways of Seeing (1972), Marxist art critic John Berger says, “Remember that I am controlling and using for my own purposes the means of reproduction needed for these programmes … As with all programmes,...

In a first deal to go down for sales agent True Colours, Palace Films has swooped on distribution rights to Australia and New Zealand. Xenix Filmdistribution will release in Switzerland “The Beautiful Summer,” which is loosely based on Cesare Pavese’s novel.

In the film, set in Turin in 1938, hard-working Ginia (Yile Yara Vianello) is looking for an adventure. She finds Amelia (Deva Cassel), who models for painters and introduces her to a whole different world.

How and why did music composer Imman and lyricist Viveka think the words ‘Durukku Thakita Durukku Thakita’ would fit into the folk number ‘Adichithooku’ in Ajith and Nayanthara starrer Viswasam? Why did singer Unnikrishnan opt to sing Deva’s composition ‘Nilavai Kondu Vaa’ in a flat tone while singer Anuradha Sriram’s portions of the song are high on expressions, laced with sensuality? If we rewind to exactly 25 years ago, we are transported to a time when private Tamil television (Sun TV) was only five years old and standalone theatres were still mostly the only place where we courted the stars. As it turns out, 1997 was a distinctive and extraordinary year for Tamil cinema. There was no shortage of critically acclaimed movies or blockbusters. Looking back at 2012 song-ically, it certainly was a year of cool sounds, new voices, groovy and groovin’ beats and over all some killer tracks. Many of the songs brought a new vibe to the music of the movies, songs flavored with new influences, and songs that we never would have thought we would hear in a Bollywood flick. There were classic beats that got us up and dancing not to mention the grooves of today that got us to move to the music. We met some new singers we can’t wait to hear more of and some of our favorites blew us away with outstanding vocals. 2012 was full of surprises and we enjoyed so many of them, 50 in fact and every single note! Since the day Dharma Productions’ unveiled the first look of their 2012 remake of yesteryear hit Agneepath, one thing was for sure – that the film will be devoid of Dharma Productions’ trademark extravagant song sequences. That is, stars lavishly dressed in Manish Malhotras dancing to Farah Khan’s directions with 1,000,000 extras in the background to a familiar tune claiming to be new.
Accordingly, audiences and critics alike had no hopes or expectations of a typical Dharma Productions soundtrack from Agneepath, a presumption that was affirmed when Ajay and Atul Gogvale of Singham fame were announced as the music directors of the film rather than the likes of Shankar-Eshaan-Loy and Vishal-Shekar.
