The series Voice of the Unheard: A Mrinal Sen Retrospective is playing on Mubi in many countries starting September 27, 2021.The Guerilla Fighter (1973)"In the beginning, there were the heaven and the earth and also the stinking malarial swamp."—Mrinal Sen, Always Being Born (2004)Instead of pulling an all-nighter to finish his assignment, Dipu (played by Anjan Dutt)—the ebullient young journalist who, at the start of Mrinal Sen’s dizzying, self-reflexive film, Chaalchitra, begrudgingly agrees to write an “intimate family portrait” about growing up just above the poverty line—becomes frustrated, throws a temper tantrum, and falls into a deep, dream-filled sleep. Sen’s itinerant camera dives into the slithy depths of Dipu’s unconscious, where his editor (whose demand for “salable” copy to “feed the public” leads to Dipu’s spiral) sits alone in a pristine, unpeopled bungalow. Lounging below electric lights, he sucks at a pipe and whirring fans deodorize the air.

Love is an expression which can be uttered through different moods of mind. It could be vocal, vibrant and even violent. But love also can be silent, where a thread of silence can bind the motion of love keeping the flow alive. Director Srijit Mukherji deals with this “silent love” in his experiment to portray this basic human feeling on a different canvas with a never told narrative. “Nirbaak” (Bengali) or “Speechless” is one of the best experimental movies happened in Indian cinema in recent times.

The trailer starts with a narration by Anjan Dutt that defines the reality of life comparing it with the algorithm of a winter’s day. A tune of violin flows along the trailer depicting the rhythm of life in an uncanny manner. The movement of camera blends perfectly with the song which portrays the truth of love in this materialistic world. Life has been captured inside the walls of a hotel where co-exist love, pain and betrayal and all define the certitudes of life like ever-existing pole star. Its one of the classiest trailers released in recent times, creating an aura of avidity aesthetically.
National award winning Indian director Srijit Mukherji is back in this winter with his new Bengali movie – “Shah Jahan Regency” – based on famous Bengali novel “Chowringhee” penned by Mani Shankar Mukherjee. The movie stars Abir Chatterjee, Parambrata Chatterjee, Anjan Dutt, Rituparna Sengupta, Swastika Mukherjee and others.

A hitman, a hooker, and a hustler all with hearts of gold: these are the three main characters in Pratim D. Gupta's latest thriller, Saheb Bibi Golaam (The Drifters). Except, these three aren't exactly virtuous, they have their pecadillos and peculiar habits, and each of them plays an integral part in a crime against an innocent that none can ever undo. This new thriller from the Bengali journalist and filmmaker is populated with fine performances and more than enough twists to keep the viewer guessing right up until the last minute. Anjan Dutt starts the film off as the surly hitman Jimmy Luke. Jimmy is a former cop who has lost his wife and his faith in good things and has instead turned his skills...

Although Kangna Ranaut has rightfully walked away with the National award as Best Actress for her performance as the Delhi girl on a solo honeymoon after being deserted by her fiance on the eve of their wedding, the rest of the Queen team was in for a disappointment, especially director Vikas Bahl who lost the best director award to the Bengali auteur director Srijit Mukherjee who won the best director award for Chatuskhon. Srijit admits he was "pleasantly surprised" by the win considering Queen was such a popular film. "It is a rare honour and I am totally overwhelmed," says Srijit. It may be mentioned here that last year, Queen was embroiled in a plagiarism controversy when it was alleged that the film's theme was suspiciously similar to Parvati Balagopalan's unsung film Phir Zindagi. Srijit's Bangla film Chatushkon stars Aparna Sen, Goutam Ghose, Chiranjeet Chakraborty and Parambrata Chatterjee as four...

The film weaves together four different tales that run parallel to each other. Nandana (Roopa Ganguly) is a fading Bollywood star who discovers she is living on borrowed time, so she is desperately in search of someone who will look after her 12 year old son. Rita (Aparajita) and Sunny (Naved Aslam) have eloped and got married but now on their honeymoon they realize their marriage isn’t really a bed of roses..
