Skydance New Media’s World War II Marvel game has finally got a title: Marvel 1943: Rise of Hydra. Not only that, it has also got a release window and a first trailer. The game is based on the Marvel superhero characters, Captain America, Black Panther, and two other characters.
The characters of Marvel 1943: Rise of Hydra
Skydance and Marvel Games announced the game back in 2021 (via Deadline) and officially teased in 2022 (via Game Informer). The trailer of the game is rather promising as it sees Captain America and Black Panther in a face-off. This is not the first time the two characters have shared the screen in the Marvel Universe, but this is certainly the first time that they will come together like this.

Soon after the release of M3GAN back in January, it was announced that the team behind the film – Universal Pictures, Blumhouse Productions, and James Wan’s production company Atomic Monster – were aiming to replicate M3GAN‘s January theatrical success by setting a January 2024 release date for their supernatural thriller Night Swim. The movie reached theatres at the start of this month – and didn’t manage to go over as well or get as much attention as M3GAN did. While M3GAN earned over $180 million during its theatrical run, Night Swim has only pulled in about $37 million at this point. Now the movie is heading to the small screen, as it’s getting a VOD and digital release this week, on January 23rd. If you want to watch the movie in the comfort of your own home tomorrow, it will set you back $29.99 on Amazon.

The high concept supernatural thriller Night Swim is out in theaters now, plunging a family into an aquatic nightmare thanks to a haunted swimming pool. It also happens to be based on a 2014 short film of the same name by Rod Blackhurst and Bryce McGuire, and you can watch it right now.
When speaking with McGuire ahead of Night Swim‘s theatrical release, the filmmaker said of the short’s inspiration, “The short was really just Rod Blackhurst and I hanging out in a pool one night and being like, ‘Remember when you were a kid, and you got freaked out because you couldn’t see the bottom anymore?’ And you thought that something was beneath you. It was like, ‘Yeah, I still feel that.’ Then, ‘Let’s see if we can capture that in a short amount of time, in a short format.’”

You’ve heard of the beach that makes you old, but what about the pool that bores you to tears? Part “Old,” part “Lady of the Lake,” and weirdly just the baseball bits of “Signs,” this sluggish supernatural release from Blumhouse and Atomic Monster (the studios’ first new title following their recent merger) feels like the latest disasterpiece from a latter-day M. Night Shyamalan — but it’s not. That’s bad news for writer/director Bryce McGuire, who has neither the genre bonafides nor the creative depravity required to justify making his debut feature an accidental horror comedy about a haunted swimming pool and the idiot suburbanites who maintain it so, so slowly.
Expanding on his 2014 short film of the same name, which was co-directed with Rod Blackhurst, McGuire burns through nearly all of his good ideas for an extended “Night Swim” before the title card even pops. In the original three-minute version,...

Revolutionary director James Wan will support up-and-coming filmmakers by producing the horror short Night Swim for international audiences next year. The short film, directed by Bryce McGuire and Rob Blackhurst, gained significant traction before being adapted into a full-length feature. Night Swim centers around protagonist Eve, who finds herself stalked by a shadowy figure while swimming in her pool, leading to imminent danger.
Revolutionary horror director James Wan already outdid himself with Saw, The Conjuring, and Insidious, but after achieving fame, he's chosen to take a chance on up-and-coming filmmakers who – like himself – started with a single camera and a dream. The Australian will bring the horror short Night Swim to international audiences next year, acting as a producer, as he rolls the dice on the small-time independent production company Witchcraft Motion Picture, founded by Rod Blackhurst and Noah Lang.

Weathering is a movie written and directed by Megalyn Echikunwoke starring Alexis Louder.
A medium-length film with a terrific leading lady, Alexis Louder, who is given a chance to shine in one of those roles she loves to play so much. She makes the most of the opportunity in a medium-length film that, unfortunately, will be remembered only for her performance.
That said, we applaud Netflix for changing the rules of the game and releasing this story that, without being little more than an episode of one of those horror series in The Alfred Hitchcock Hour style, knows how to play with what it has and with its length.
Plot
A woman begins to see visions after losing her son in childbirth.

Saddled with student debt and unable to find work, a college graduate becomes involved in a credit card scam, acting as a dummy shopper and buying increasingly risky products with stolen credit cards.
From the moment we’re thrust into the heat of things, Emily the Criminal makes sure to never let go of its viciously tight grip on you. Saddled with legal and school debt, she takes her catering co-worker’s advice and gets involved with a shady credit card fraudster named Youcef (Theo Rossi). A handful of smaller films will start to test audience enthusiasm for movie theaters without big tentpoles. It’s been a rocky summer for specialty releases, and an uphill climb as arthouses emerge from Covid jitters with franchise films sucking up oxygen and screens. But superheroes are on hiatus.
“There isn’t giant competition from tentpoles,” said Howard Cohen, co-president of Roadside Attractions. “On balance, it’s good. Obviously, if you have Top Gun, it sucks the air out of the marketplace. It’s still better — for the specialty market — to have three or four indies than one giant release. Exhibitors are antsy about the sudden dearth of new wide releases this month and next, but they’ve also been asking for more box office breadth.

When we meet Emily (Aubrey Plaza), she’s already a criminal. Writer-director John Patton Ford’s debut feature, “Emily the Criminal,” isn’t an exploration of how Emily becomes a criminal, but rather, how she learns to embrace criminality as her identity, her gift and her escape from a world that’s built to keep her down.
This tough, gristly crime thriller is a searing indictment of late-stage American capitalism, and a showcase for star and producer Plaza to reveal a steely new side to her talent.
The cagey Emily is as lean and mean as Ford’s taut screenplay. We meet her in an interview for a medical administration job, jittery, defensive and coiled tight. When the interviewer probes her about her criminal record – a DUI here, an aggravated assault there – Emily storms out, refusing to explain – but, really, refusing to beg for his mercy and forgiveness.

How far would you go for a fresh start? That’s the question driving Aubrey Plaza’s titular character in the upcoming indie feature “Emily the Criminal,” a tense thriller from writer-director John Patton Ford set in the underbelly of black-market capitalism.
At the top of the film, Emily (Plaza) finds herself in a bind: She needs a job that will allow her to pay off her student loans, which are quickly gathering interest, but she can’t get one thanks to a minor criminal record.
A solution materializes in the form of a shady connection, Youcef (Theo Rossi), who offers her a gig. “In the next hour, you will make 200 cash, but you will have to do something illegal,” he tells her. “You won’t be in danger, but you will be breaking the law.”

For a decade now, Aubrey Plaza has been the star of several of the buzziest movies to premiere at the Sundance Film Festival. Her streak started with 2012’s “Safety Not Guaranteed” and continued every couple years with 2014’s “Life After Beth,” 2017’s “Ingrid Goes West,” and 2020’s “Black Bear.”
Plaza is back at the virtual 2022 fest with “Emily the Criminal,” a debut feature film from writer-director John Patton Ford. For Plaza, who has explored troubled characters before, such as in “Ingrid Goes West,” the film marks a bold step into the thriller realm. “Emily the Criminal,” by John Patton Ford, is One job asks her to be a crook, one job treats her like a crook, and one job pays so little it’s essentially stealing from her. The girl, Emily (Aubrey Plaza) is an embittered art student with $70,000 in college debt, a felony conviction for aggravated assault and essentially no leverage to negotiate her terms of employment besides the pepper spray in her purse, which won’t help much for the two white-collar gigs. The title of this chilly thriller announces which job she picks. Her circumstances explain why. But despite the fact that the camera rarely backs away from studying Plaza’s wary eyes and tense mouth in close-up, this character piece feels as distanced from its taciturn subject as if it was merely monitoring her on security camera.

With one key exception, “Blood Moon” doesn’t really try to hide anything. The final Season 2 installment of the Hulu feature-length anthology series “Into the Dark” is even more stripped down than many of its other counterparts. It’s admirable, considering its ostensible main hook. But this is one of the collection’s better efforts because of how much it resists the expectations that come with it.
For those watching in order, “Blood Moon” makes for a nice complement to last month’s Valentine’s Day-themed “Tentacles”: An opening sequence that drops a main character and the audience right into an immediate sense of danger, a young woman starting over in a new town, and the resulting mechanics of hiding a dark secret.
“Blood Moon” swaps out a meet-cute romance for a thoughtful mother-son story, with Esme (Megalyn Echikunwoke) and her 10-year-old son (Yonas Kibreab) arriving in a remote desert town.

Cinematographer Lyn Moncrief and composer Jay Wadley helped director Emma Tammi deliver the psychological horror elements in Hulu’s “Into the Dark: Blood Moon,” the story of a young mother named Esme (Megalyn Echikunwoke), and her 7-year-old son, Luna (Yonas Kibreab), who have moved to a small town in the desert.
To her new neighbors, Esme seems to be a fiercely overprotective mother. What they don’t know is that she’s hiding a secret tied to the lunar cycle. The film is the March installment — and season finale — of the Blumhouse TV-produced “Into the Dark” anthology series, which aims to debut a horror film each month.
Moncrief, working with Tammi for the first time, noticed a common theme throughout her films, including “The Wind” and “Fair Chase”: The protagonists were trapped or limited in some way. One of the first discussions he had with the director was how...
