Welcome to No Fact Zone’s weekly roundup of cultural references on The Colbert Report. From Darcy to Danger Mouse, String Theory to Shakespeare, we’ve got the keys to this week’s obscure, oddball, and occasionally obscene cultural shout-outs (hey!)
Hola Zoners! I hope your December is coming along nicely! I can’t believe 2010 is almost over! This week was a regular fruit cake of pop culture references – chock full of staying power, but without the gastrointestinal consequences. Wednesday’s show with Steve Martin was especially fun. I enjoy seeing artists branch out into other genres. The humorous back and forth between Steve and Stephen over what defines art -as well as the contributions of great artists such as Frank Stella, Shepard Fairey and Andres Serrano- certainly solidified it as a favorite of mine. What was your favorite moment of the week?

Hello kids! Last night was another great show, but seriously, I really have to stop trying to put on my make-up while watching it online every morning. Suffice it to say, my eyeliner only looks good if you’re looking at me, while standing on your head, and with one eye closed. But enough of that, let’s get to it. What d’ya say?
First of all…New Colbertism in the opening credits kiddies – “Deck the Balls”!! Glad to see everyone at The Colbert Report getting into the holiday spirit, huh? However, once again, the economy (or lack thereof) and the repeal of Dadt were in the news,...

Now is about the time of month I actually start to try and figure out what I'm going to be buying people for Christmas which I realizes is probably not the best plan. Part of the problem is that, since I grew up around the mid-East Coast I have a hard time accepting the idea that Christmas is around the corner when the weather here is still (mostly) mild and sunny. The other problem is that I'm a very list oriented person, so I put all the more immediate things (finals, papers, work, bills, eating, etc.) on my mental list before Christmas shopping so by the time I get down to it I'm usually out of money and running the risk of all the good gifts being sold out. So, if I'm supposed to be buying you a present for Christmas this year, my sincere apologies and here's your Tuesday...

Hello, Zoners! You don’t have to tell me why I Do like Mondays! Sure, it’s a day almost everyone dreads, but for us it means a new Report–and that’s always good. And we must savor every show now, because very soon the holiday break will come, leaving us bereft.
What a great lineup this week, including two Pulitzer Prize winners, a Tony Award winner, and one of my favorite novel writing, bluegrass-playing comedians ever.
Monday December 6: Garry Trudeau
Happy 40th birthday, Doonsebury! Garry Trudeau debuted his cutting-edge, politically satiric strip (the continuation of his earlier, deliciously titled Bull Tales) in 1970, when the Vietnam War still raged and the cultural strife of the 60s remained explosive. For his unique work, Trudeau received the very first Pulitzer Prize ever awarded to a cartoonist. Doonesbury has also been adapted for TV and stage.
