Those teen drama TV series are not to be taken lightly. Because they could produce the most promising Oscar-nominated or winning actors. For example, consider Skins, created by Jamie Brittain and Bryan Elsley.
Every episode usually centers on a specific character or group of characters and the challenges they encounter in their daily lives. Themes of mental illness, dysfunctional families, bullying, and s*icide were also covered in greater detail. Not only did Skins receive positive reviews and good box office results, but it also gained a cult following. Of course, this is due to the stellar cast.
Dev Patel in Skins
Jordan Peele also agreed on this. Unbelievably, he has not watched Skins but he still gives the popular TV series credit for “producing” two of the best actors in contemporary film history—Dev Patel and Daniel Kaluuya.

Marvel projects may be drawing a slew of high-profile actors to Australia, but it seems there are also local productions inversely capable of attracting MCU talent.
Christopher James Baker has been back in his native country for the past year following more than a decade in New York, during which he starred in Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D, and also shot the upcoming DC Universe Series, Stargirl.
He has been able to hit the ground running following his return, with roles in Stan’s eight-part mystery drama Eden, as well as Goalpost’s gold rush drama New Gold Mountain.
Baker will first be seen in the former, which is set to premiere on the streaming platform on June 11.
The Every Cloud Productions/Balloon Entertainment series centres on the disappearance of a young woman and a subsequent chain of events that serves to lay bare dark and hidden secrets within the titular coastal town.

Set in London, Isobel’s arrival creates mounting tensions, unravels bonds, and exposes secrets with shocking and tragic consequences. Ikoko said the series is “Big Little Lies meets Girlfriends” and will be an “amazing celebration of Nigerian British culture.”
Wahala is produced by Firebird Pictures, with founder Elizabeth Kilgarriff executive producing alongside the BBC’s Mona Qureshi. BBC Studios will distribute the series internationally.

“Kiss Me First,” like its teenage protagonist, is confused and immature. The Netflix series has the raw materials for what could be a promising tale, but its storytelling has not yet found its voice. Instead, it appears to be mimicking a number of different genres — cyber-thriller, mystery, coming-of-age, and romance — yet doesn’t know how to blend or develop them.
The brief six-part British series is very loosely inspired by the novel by Lottie Moggach, and how it botches the adaptation will be addressed later. 2018 has been a big year so far for Channel 4 and Netflix. After teaming up for hit series “The End of the F**ing World,” the latest show in that co-venture, “Kiss Me First,” is right on the horizon. And once again, teens are front and center.
Based on Lottie Moggach’s 2013 debut novel, “Kiss Me First” follows Leila (Tallulah Haddon), an online gamer who meets the mysterious Tess (Simona Brown) while inside a virtual world. Shortly after her digital friendship translates into reality, Tess goes missing. Posing as Tess back in the realm where they met, Leila begins to uncover the truth behind what happened to her.
This official trailer shows that the show will also feature what Leila and Tess see and experience inside an animated Vr world. There’s action inside this alternate reality: lake swims, car chases and roundhouse kicks to the chest

Victoria star Leo Suter, Outlander’s Stuart Harris and Darkest Hour’s Imogen King have joined the cast of the second season of Clique after U.S. network Pop boarded the show.
As Deadline revealed earlier this year, the show was handed a second season by BBC Three and Pop. Filming has now begun on the drama, created by Skins’ Jess Brittain, in Edinburgh, with a number of new faces joining the cast.
While the first season, which saw Holly, played by Synnove Karlsen, drawn to a group of alluring, confident but troubled young women, the second will see her encounter a radically different clique, this time a band of brothers.
Suter, who also starred in Jack Whitehall’s Bad Education, will be joined by The Hollow Crown’s Barney Harris, Outlander’s Stuart Campbell alongside King, Mary, Queen of Scots’ Izuka Hoyle and newcomers Jyuddah Jaymes and Nicholas Nunn.

The Virtual Reality gaming world and the small screen are set to collide on April 2nd when Channel 4 premieres the innovative thriller hybrid live-action and state of the art animation Kiss Me First. Judging from the first episode alone, Channel 4’s ability to connect with younger audiences hasn’t faltered. It stunningly delves into the minds of troubled, lonely teens just looking for a world in which they can leave their troubles behind and be someone else.
The six-part drama is adapted by Skins co-creator Bryan Elsley and is based on Lottie Moggach’s debut novel of the same name – in which she used the world of social media and chat rooms and not Vr gaming – the drama flits between the animated Virtual Reality and real worlds. The story focuses on the timid yet inquiring Leila, played by rising star Tallulah Haddon. She spends her time escaping the loneliness...

Some exciting new UK drama and comedy commissions are making their way to TV over the next year or so…
We know, we know. You still have two episodes of Fargo season two before you can think about starting season three. You’ve already fallen behind on American Gods. Your planner memory is chock-a-block with Big Little Lies and that Oj Simpson thing and some Spanish prison series your workmate bullied you into recording. You’re struggling to make time for Twin Peaks. New Game Of Thrones is just around the corner. And guess what, Netflix UK have just added a whole new season of It’s Always Sunny, those sods. You need a list of new TV show recommendations like you need a hole in the head.

And yet, as long as they keep making them, we’ll keep recommending them.

Skins debuted on E4 10 years ago. We revisit a bold and unique adolescent drama that kick-started countless careers...
It’s been a decade since Skins, E4’s controversial teen drama, premiered. At the time, it was a source of anxiety for parents about what teenagers were getting up to when they weren’t looking, but for television executives it was pure gold. It achieved that rare feat - it got young people to watch and talk about it - and, after seven years of drinking, drugs and general debauchery, it bowed out in 2013.

Lottie Moggach’s Kiss Me First novel, inspired in part by The Matrix, is in production as a Channel 4/Netflix collaboration…
Here’s an interesting one. UK broadcaster Channel 4 and massive online streaming service Netflix are working together to bring Lottie Moggach’s Kiss Me First novel to the small screen.
As with the hugely successful Young Adult-skewered novel – which was partly inspired by The Matrix – the Kiss Me First TV series will present the story of lonely teen Leila and social butterfly Tess.
When the former – an online videogame addict – goes missing, the latter must take up her gaming avatar to find out what happened. She heads down a digital rabbit hole consisting of dark secrets aplenty. We'll say no more for now.
Skins creator Bryan Elsley is working on the scripts as we speak, and the finished product is envisioned as a blend of live-action and CGI.

An adaptation of Lottie Moggach's best-selling Young Adult novel Kiss Me First is coming to E4 and Netflix.
And the new six-part series has been written by the creator of Skins, Bryan Elsley.
Described as an innovative and emotional thriller, Kiss Me First tells the story of Leila, a lonely 17 year old girl who is addicted to a fictional online gaming site called Agora. While in Agora, Leila meets Tess, a cool and confident party girl who harbours a dark secret. In the real world, the two girls become friends, but after Tess disappears Leila decides to assume her friend’s identity and in doing so is quickly drawn into unravelling the mystery behind her disappearance.
The series will combine live action with computer-generated virtual world sequences to create the parallel worlds of Leila and Tess’ real life and that of their online alteregos ‘Shadowfax’ and ‘Mania’ in the virtual world of Agora.

Netflix and Channel 4 are getting together to bring a six-part series to the streaming service that takes place half in the real world, and half inside virtual reality. Engadget reports that Kiss Me First is currently slated for production and after its run on British television, it will come to Netflix for an American debut. Here's a brief synopsis of the show:
It follows Leila, a 17-year-old girl, who quickly becomes addicted to Agora and meets Tess, a "confident party girl" who also "harbours a dark secret." The pair become friends in the real world, but Tess soon disappears, leaving Leila to assume her identity in Agora and find out what happened.
The show will be half live action and half "cutting edge CGI," according to the network. I'm definitely interested to see how "cutting edge" it'll be, considering so many shows have tried the concept and it never...

Every Cloud Productions will adapt classic Australian novel Seven Little Australians in a four-part television series.
Following on from the success of Miss Fishers' Murder Mysteries, Every Cloud productions will tell the story of seven unruly, mischievous and Australian children in four one-hour episodes.

A Us remake of Channel 4's Dates is coming to The CW.
The network has commissioned series creator Bryan Elsley (Skins) to pen and executive produce the adaptation, according to Deadline.
However, the Us version of the comedy will feature hour-long episodes, rather than following the half-hour format of the UK original.
Each episode of Dates focuses on a first date between two people who have met via online dating.
The first series of the original - which aired in the UK back in 2013 - has aired to lacklustre ratings on The CW this summer, but that hasn't stopped network president Mark Pedowitz from moving forward with the adaptation.
He said: "I like the format. I wish it performed better, but in summer you take shots. I'm very proud of it, and it was great getting Ben Chaplin on our air."

Here's one of those 'This'll make you feel old' factoids - it's two years since the last ever episode of Skins aired.
E4's groundbreaking hormone-fest wrapped up on August 5, 2013 - with an older Cook (Jack O'Connell) heading off into an uncertain future at the close of 'Rise (Part Two)'.
Cook was but one of 27 major characters featured on Skins across three 'Generations' - in a total of 61 episodes, split into seven series. But where are the teen tearaways of Roundview College now?
Generation One
1. Nicholas Hoult
Hoult played Tony Stonem - the pre-eminent bad boy of Skins - across its first two series. Later badly hurt in a traffic accident and forced to rely on others, Tony had mellowed by his final episodes.
Now aged 25, Hoult has become a bona-fide Hollywood star with roles in this year's Mad Max: Fury Road and the much-anticipated book adaptations Dark Places and Kill Your Friends.

Skins creator Bryan Elsley has hinted that the show could return in the future.
The writer told Radio Times that he has held talks to revive the E4 teen drama as an online series.
Skins came to an end in 2013 with a seventh series, titled Skins Redux.
"Discussions are under way with a number of parties," Elsley said, adding that it would most likely involve an entirely different cast.
"Any re-imagining of Skins would be from the ground up, a total re-imagining of the whole thing.
"Today's youth are very different from what they were when Skins started."
Skins began on E4 in 2007, launching the careers of Nicholas Hoult, Jack O'Connell, Dev Patel and Kaya Scodelario among others.
Joe Dempsie's role of Chris was named Digital Spy readers' favourite Skins character of all time last year.

Review Caroline Preece 6 Aug 2013 - 11:45
Skins bows out on a brave, unflinching episode. Here's Caroline's review of Rise part 2...
This review contains spoilers.
We’ve reached the end, Skins fans, and it’s a safe bet that we won’t be returning following this brave and unflinching final episode. Whether it satisfies or appals will probably have something to do with your enjoyment of this seventh series in general, as this is very much an ending to Cook’s story, and not to the series as a whole. If we want cosy resolution then we need to go back to the series two, four and six finales, as adulthood has no room for such things. Skins Rise seems almost defiant in the ways it leaves us hanging, and a part of me wonders whether this story out of the three was the best to finish with.
