Kurt Wallander is set to take on more cases after European drama Young Wallander was renewed at Netflix for a second season.
The streamer launched the first season of the series, produced by Banijay-backed Yellow Bird UK and based on Henning Mankell’s novels, in September.
Swedish actor Adam Pålsson stars as the eponymous detective with Argo’s Richard Dillane and Black Mirror’s previously Leanne Best also starring. Pålsson takes on the mantle of Wallander after he was played by Kenneth Branagh in a BBC adaptation of Mankell’s books.
The show is a modern reimagining of the detective story with Kurt Wallander navigating the increasingly violent environment of present-day Sweden. In the first season, after he was unable to save a teenager from a gruesome attack, Wallander had to learn to cope with his guilt in order to solve the crime.

Norwegian cinema directors threatened to boycott comedy ahead of a planned VOD world premiere.
Plans to debut Ole Endresen’s Chasing Berlusconi (Jakten på Berlusconi) on VOD have been scrapped after Norwegian cinema directors declared they would boycott showing the film.
The horseracing comedy was set to become the first film to receive a VOD premiere ahead of a theatrical release and was set to be made available on TV2’s Sumo platform for 48 hours from Sept 5, ahead of its wide release this Friday (Sept 12).
The move had previously been approved by Norway’s largest circuit, Oslo Cinemas.
But following pressure from Norwegian cinema directors, Skistad and Sumo managing director Trond Kvernstrøm decided to cancel the plans.
“We wanted to try something new, but from the reaction this is obviously not possible,” said Kvernstrøm.
“Every year TV2 pays a lot of money for airing local films, but programming a new film two years after it has opened...

Ole Endresen’s comedy will be available online a week before its theatrical release.
Ole Endresen’s horseracing comedy Chasing Berlusconi (Jakten på Berlusconi) is to become the first film in Norway to be made available to audiences before its theatrical release.
The film will be available for 48 hours on Norwegian TV2’s VOD-service, Sumo, from Friday (Sept 5) ahead of its theatrical release on Sept 12.
While Premium VOD release (simultaneous with theatrical) is not unusual in international markets, it is the first time in Norway that a distributor has included TV screenings in the marketing campaign for an upcoming film.
“We have had good experiences organising previews of new films in the cinemas, and wanted to try the concept through other channels,” said managing director Vibeke Skistad, of Euforia Distribution.
“TV2’s exposure of Chasing Berlusconi is worth a lot to us – we are going to reach out far better than we usually do – and it will...

Erik Poppe, Paul Mayersberg, Aage Aaberge team on painter biopic.
Erik Poppe is attached to direct a new biopic of Norwegian Expressionist painter Edvard Munch.
Poppe, whose latest drama A Thousand Times Goodnight took the Best Film Prize at this week’s Amanda Awards in Norway, will collaborate on the project with veteran UK writer Paul Mayersberg (The Man Who Fell to Earth, Merry Christmas Mr Lawrence) and Norwegian producer Aage Aaberge (Kon-Tiki).
Aaberge, of Neofilm told ScreenDaily at Haugesund that the film is “a dream project” of his.
“For eight years I have wanted to make a film of Munch, Norway’s greatest artists,” he said. “After all, the latest effort, by UK director Peter Watkins, dates back to 1974.”
“But it was difficult to find the right way to approach the project, until I met writer-director Paul Mayersberg.”
Loosely based on Norwegian author Ketil Bjørnstad’s book, The Story of Edvard Munch, the film will...

Norwegian director Ole Endresen knows what he likes. And what he likes are drily absurd comedies of fringe players in fringe sports driven to extremes as they are pushed ever farther to the fringes of polite society. Endresen had a local hit with his King Curling following this particular path and he's looking to do it again with the upcoming Chasing Berlusconi (Jagten Pa Berlusconi). The slightly chubby harness racer Bjarte does not get the good horses anymore, and is forced to enter the criminal path in order to keep menacing creditors at bay. A fatal choice of partners ends up in a failed doping attempt, and a consequent kidnapping of the top horse Berlusconi. A bloodthirsty hunting party consisting of two eager financial crime investigators,...

Who out there has always wanted to see a Norwegian curling comedy? Thought so. That’s the precise thrill that Ole Endresen’s film “King Curling” provides. While there are obvious parallels with the Coen Brothers’ “Big Lebowski”, and aesthetic similarities to Wes Anderson’s movies, “King Curling” transcends simple comparison. This film stands alone as a hilarious, heartfelt story of obsession, friendship, and most importantly, sliding a heavy rock across a sheet of ice. Curling may, in fact, be the ultimate in athletic competition. Superimposing a traditional redemptive sports story onto a sport that most of us know little to nothing about, “King Curling” has a lot of fun twisting and tinkering with every sports cliché in the book. In the 1990s Truls Paulson (Atle Antonsen) ruled on high over the curling world. Fixated on every last detail, every bit of minutia, Truls becomes mentally unhinged and spends a...

I can't remember a time I went to the Seattle International Film Festival (Siff) press launch and looked over the list of films and saw so many I was interested in seeing. The claim to fame for over the years is to call it the largest and most-highly attended festival in the United States. This is a fact I've often taken issue with as I don't equate quantity with quality. Granted, there has been a large number of quality features to play the fest over the years, including Golden Space Needle (Best Film) winners such as Kiss of the Spider Woman (1985), My Life as a Dog (1987), Trainspotting (1996), Run Lola Run (1999), Whale Rider (2003) and even recent Best Director winner, Michel Hazanavicius's Oss 117: Nest of Spies in 2006. That said, looking over this year's crop of films I see a lot of films I will be doing my absolute best to see.

[Trailer updated with English subtitled version.]Ah, curling, that most noble of sports in which balding, overweight men slide large rocks down a sheet of ice whilst screaming at the top of their lungs. Outside of hockey it is the only sport that Canada ranks as a true world power in, our one true nemesis at the rink being the Norwegians. Oh, you Norwegians and your fancy pants ...Curling, have you never had the chance to witness it, is a very silly sport - a fact which makes it the perfect subject for a sports comedy. Canada tried this one with Paul Gross' Men With Brooms but it appears we have been outdone by Norway's Ole Endresen and The King Of Curling (Kong Curling). The story...
