Alan Ruck has been playing the role of Connor Roy in HBO’s “Succession” and getting his due credit. However, it all began for him with 1986’s all-time classic “Ferris Bueller’s Day Off”. He played the nervous, fast-talking Cameron Frye in John Hughes’ classic. He reluctantly got dragged along on Ferris’ epic adventure, stealing his dad’s Ferrari and causing delightful mayhem throughout Chicago.
A still from Ferris Bueller’s Day Off
Many years later, Alan Ruck might have a bone to pick with someone. Despite recently bringing the character back to life, it seems like Ruck does not recall doing any such incident. The reason why he has seemingly forgotten reprising his character is definitely worth knowing!

True Detective has to be one of the most brilliant anthology mystery thriller shows ever made. Originally created by Nic Pizzolatto, the HBO series told a dark and haunting tale through the brilliant performances by Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson in its first season. The quality of the series took a nosedive in its second season and the third season while better from Season 2 didn’t really match the expectation that the inaugural season of True Detective set. Now, we are in Season 4 titled Night Country and with a new creative force behind the series, the fans are getting exactly what they want. So, if you have already finished the much awaited Season 4 of True Detective and are hoping for a renewal, here are some similar shows you could watch while waiting for the new season.

Lucky Hank, Bob Odenkirk’s follow-up to Better Call Saul, has been canceled by AMC after one season. Although the series received positive reviews, the audience just wasn’t there to justify a second season.
“We’re proud of Lucky Hank and thankful for the work of everyone who brought this unique, playful and deeply human show to viewers, from the talented creative team to our partners at Sony and, of course, Bob, Mireille and the entire cast and crew,” AMC said in a statement. “Unfortunately, we are not able to proceed with a second season, but we are glad these eight episodes exist on AMC+ and will continue to find new fans — or be seen again by viewers who come back to spend more time with Hank, Lily and the entertaining cast of characters at Railton College.“

The 2013 film World War Z isn’t very popular, but it made a lot of money at the box office, pulling in over $540 million worldwide. So of course a sequel was put into development. Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom director J.A. Bayona worked on the project for a year before stepping away because they couldn’t quite figure out the story, despite having great set pieces in mind. Then the sequel very nearly went into production in 2019 with Fight Club director David Fincher at the helm – but the studio decided it to scrap it over budgetary issues. Now, during an interview with GQ Magazine UK, Fincher revealed that he’s glad his World War Z sequel didn’t get made because it would have been similar to HBO’s TV series adaptation of the video game The Last of Us – and the TV series format allows The Last of Us to...

David Fincher is opening up about the scrapped World War Z sequel and revealing that it was going to be like HBO’s The Last of Us.
“It was a little like The Last of Us. I’m glad that we didn’t do what we were doing, because The Last of Us has a lot more real estate to explore the same stuff,” Fincher told GQ in an interview. “In our title sequence, we were going to use the little parasite… they used it in their title sequence, and in that wonderful opening with the Dick Cavett, David Frost-style talk show.:

"I don't want to see you become damaged goods..." "It's not just for me. What about the next girl?" Vertical has revealed an official trailer for the legal thriller film titled Miranda's Victim, getting a direct-to-vod release in October this fall. Based on true events, the film first premiered at the 2023 Santa Barbara Film Festival earlier this year as well as a few other smaller festivals. In 1963, after Trish Weir is kidnapped and sexually assaulted, her assailant is caught and tried. After he confesses without legal representation during the trial, he serves a two-year sentence, only to have the verdict later overturned. This retrial triggers a legal proceeding that forever changes the nation's justice system. As rotten as this sounds, it's what leads to the creation of the "Miranda rights". Abigail Breslin stars with Ryan Phillippe as a vicious defense attorney, plus Luke Wilson, Emily VanCamp, Mireille Enos, Enrique Murciano,...

With the HBO media empire tragicomedy "Succession," the damaged and destructive adult children of billionaire mogul Logan Roy (Brian Cox) take center stage. For every shareholder meeting or tense bit of boardroom drama, the show spends much more time digging into the cyclical journeys of self-discovery or delusion that the children undergo. And none of them, not even megalomaniacal "#1 Boy" Kendall (Jeremy Strong), are as delusional as eldest son Connor (Alan Ruck).
If Alan Ruck's performance as Connor reflects anything, it's that against all odds he will find a way to dominate a given episode or storyline. For a character with a small role at the series' outset, he's become something of a fan favorite, whether it's rightfully fighting for his share of the pie as "the eldest son" or his Leonard Cohen karaoke choice. His romantic relationship and eventual marriage with former escort Willa (Justine Lupe) is as unsettling as it is surprisingly warm,...

She explains, “She’s with a partner I think is the right person to be with. He is very intelligent and really committed to honesty and the truth. She is equally smart but reaches for optimism. Lily helped to lift him and Hank helped ground her.”

AMC has been a big Emmys player in drama races for more than a decade. This year, however, perhaps “Lucky Hank” can get Emmy voters laughing and land some comedy nominations for the basic cable network.
For three decades now, HBO has consistently racked up big Emmy nomination hauls. More recently streamer Netflix has given the premium cable outlet a run for its money. But if you look solely at the drama races, you should not discount the success of AMC. In the past 15 years, AMC has won Best Drama Series six times from 19 nominations. That’s the same number of wins as HBO over that period of time.
AMC has also won five Emmys for Best Drama Actor (five for Bryan Cranston from“Breaking Bad” and one for Jon Hamm from “Mad Men”) from 19 nominations. That is more wins than any other network in that time. Together since 2007, AMC...

Bob Odenkirk is a lucky guy. For starters, he’s managed to cultivate a career path that spans multiple genres. His cult Nineties sketch series Mr Show arguably kickstarted modern alternative comedy, an area Odenkirk has subtly shaped in the years since by giving creative breaks to the likes of Tenacious D and Tim and Eric. Then a successful rebrand as a dramatic actor led to his unforgettable conman-turned-lawyer Saul Goodman in Breaking Bad and its prequel series Better Call Saul, and his surprise turn as an unassuming neighbourhood hardman in 2021 punch-a-thon Nobody. As if that wasn’t enough, he’s also cheated death.
He was partway through filming the final season of Saul when it happened. As production paused and the crew began setting up a new shot, Odenkirk returned to the exercise bike he often used while watching Chicago Cubs baseball games between scenes. Suddenly he fell to his knees,...

Bob Odenkirk looks to double his chances at the Emmys this year by entering the Comedy Actor race for “Lucky Hank.” This could mean he gets nominated in the Drama and Comedy Lead Actor categories. For an actor with a long-established career in comedy, it seems fitting he’d make the field of jokers.
“Lucky Hank” is the new AMC dark comedy, where Odenkirk plays the college professor, William Henry “Hank” Devereaux, Jr. At the beginning of the show’s pilot episode, Hank rants in class about his institution being a “middling college” and exclaims to a student, “The fact that you’re here means you didn’t try very hard.” The fallout of this causes Hank to be voted out as Chair of the English department. These ramifications lead to conversations with his wife (Mireille Enos) about moving to New York where she has an exciting job opportunity. However,...

Bob Odenkirk could find himself in the rare Emmy air this year. AMC will submit Odenkirk’s new series, “Lucky Hank,” in comedy categories for this year’s Emmy competition, Variety has confirmed.
Of course, AMC is also submitting the final episodes of Odenkirk’s “Better Call Saul” in the drama fields. Should Odenkirk be nominated in both the best drama actor and best comedy actor races, he would become the first performer in history to be nominated in both genres in the same year.
Several performers have been nominated and even won Emmys as both drama and comedy leads — but never at the same time. It’s a possibility: Odenkirk has been nominated five times in the best drama actor category for “Better Call Saul,” and this will be his final opportunity to compete in that race for “Saul”. Meanwhile, Odenkirk has been known first and foremost as a comedy performer,...

Hank is going to Hank.
If you didn't learn that from the series premiere of Lucky Hank, you'll know it after Lucky Hank Season 1 Episode 2, premiering Sunday on AMC and AMC+.
TV Fanatic scored an exclusive clip from the new episode, and it features Bob Odenkirk delivering another masterclass in acting.
He was excellent on Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul, but he's playing a very different role in Lucky Hank, showcasing his impressive acting range to perfection.
In the clip, Hank is given the opportunity to speak with Booker Prize winner George Saunders.
While anyone would be ecstatic about speaking with such a prestigious figure, Hank has other ideas.
It doesn't help matters that Hank learns just how much the college is paying for the privilege of having George at the campus.
It's a fun scene that showcases why the show has been such a resounding success with critics.

Alan Ruck has had great success in his work as an actor, and off screen, he's just as fortunate. The "Succession" star - who got his first big break in the 1986 classic "Ferris Bueller's Day Off" for his portrayal of Cameron - is a father of four, a role he takes very seriously. Ruck got his first taste of fatherhood when he and his ex-wife, Claudia Stefany, welcomed their daughter, Emma Ruck. During their marriage - which ultimately ended in 2005 - they added a son named Sam Ruck to their family as well.
Ruck went on to expand his family when he and Mireille Enos found love together. The pair wed in 2008, and two years later, they welcomed a baby girl together. Enos later gave birth to her and Ruck's son in 2014. In October 2021, Ruck spoke to The Guardian about what it's like being a dad at an older age.

When prolific producer Mark Johnson acquired the TV rights to Richard Russo’s 1997 novel Straight Man, he knew that Saul Goodman actor Bob Odenkirk would be the perfect fit to play its lead character, William Henry Devereaux Jr. But Johnson, who also served as a producer on Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul, was hesitant to bring the role of the ornery Railton College English department head Odenkirk’s way for one very understandable reason.
“I’m the idiot who had the book for I don’t know how long and I was afraid to give it to Bob,” Johnson tells Den of Geek during SXSW. “I was afraid it was going to break his concentration for Saul Goodman.”
“What concentration?” Odenkirk quips.

Attention, class: Bob Odenkirk is trading legal briefs for term papers in his new AMC dramedy Lucky Hank.
Sunday’s premiere introduces us to Hank Devereaux (played by the Better Call Saul alum), the chairman of the English department at a fictional Pennsylvania college. Hank is worn out and checked out, making a grocery list in his head while his students read their latest creative writing exercises aloud. The students notice, too — “Could you please, just for once, say something?” one of them pleads — so Hank obliges, ruthlessly picking apart the prose of a student named Bartow before launching into a rant.

Mireille Enos, whose new series “Lucky Hank” with Bob Odenkirk premieres this weekend on AMC, is still up for a sequel to 2013’s “World War Z,” even a decade later.
The script was finished for the follow-up to the Marc Forster-directed first film that starred Brad Pitt, and it had top talent attached to help at various points, including David Fincher and J. A. Bayona of “The Impossible.”
“The script for the second movie was great. I wish the world could get to see it,” Enos told TheWrap. “We got really close to making a sequel. At one point David Fincher was signed on there was a completed script which was excellent and then one thing and another you know [and it never got made]. But never say never. I still think it would be great.”

If you can read this, thank a teacher. Exactly which teacher to thank was the question we put to Bob Odenkirk and Mireille Enos, who star as a married couple with academic careers in AMC‘s Lucky Hank. In the new one-hour comedy, Odenkirk plays the titular Hank Devereux, a disillusioned college professor, and Enos is his more upbeat wife Lily, a high school vice principal. But which real-life chalk-slingers influenced these actors the most? For Odenkirk, it was the three teachers who team-taught his junior high English class in Naperville, Illinois. They encouraged him to do what he was good at. “They let me, all year, put on little plays I wrote, for my project. One was about Abraham Lincoln, one was [about] the country of Ghana, one was [about] the Chicago Fire. I told a story by writing a play and having other students act in it with me, and of course,...

Some of the best television shows are about whip-smart operators and the political nuances of their professional worlds. So why then is it so challenging to make a satisfying series about academia? It’s not only difficult to think of a television show that has succeeded in lifting the veil of a university, it’s tough to think of shows that have even tried. The most recent swipe at it was Netflix’s “The Chair,” a thin but charming dramedy starring Sandra Oh that ended after a single season. Even as college campuses remain a go-to battleground for American culture wars, the inner lives of the professors caught in the crossfire are usually reserved for novels.

On the surface, World War Z looked like a big financial success back in 2013 when it scored a whopping $540 million at the global box office. But according to Deadline, the film barely broke even for Paramount at the time. A variety of factors, including extensive reshoots, ballooned the budget up to $270 million per the outlet, plus another estimated $160 million for marketing. The Marc Forster-directed zombie blockbuster starring Brad Pitt didn’t make much of a dent for the studio. The tepid critical reception, on top of all the rumors of a troubled production behind the scenes, seemed like the final nail in the coffin for this fledgling franchise.
But according to the LA Times, Paramount and Forster had always viewed the big screen adaptation of the incredibly popular Max Brooks novel as just the first chapter of a film trilogy. And initially, Paramount did intend to move forward with a sequel.

Plot: Lucky Hank is an eight-episode mid-life crisis tale set at Railton College. Told in the first person by William Henry Devereaux, Jr., the unlikely chairman of the English department in a badly underfunded college in the Pennsylvania rust belt.
Review: Bob Odenkirk is one hell of an actor. The accomplished comedian joined Breaking Bad as Saul Goodman in what many of us assumed was a comic relief role before turning in a bravura performance as the lawyer in his spin-off, Better Call Saul. While earning acclaim in that role, Odenkirk became an unexpected action hero in Nobody, proving his versatility across genres. Now, Odenkirk blends his dramatic and comedic chops for a new AMC series, Lucky Hank. Based on the Richard Russo novel Straight Man, Lucky Hank is a biting and satirical comedy that is equally serious and funny, with a substantial leading role for Odenkirk as the title character.

Less than a year after “Better Call Saul” wrapped its inconceivably excellent six-season run (somehow matching the towering precedent set by “Breaking Bad”), Bob Odenkirk is back on AMC. That’s good for the network, which has steadily built a fan base around the two-time Emmy winner via those back-to-back hits. No matter where he pops up, seeing Odenkirk on TV should never be taken for granted, even if his new series isn’t quite sure what it is yet.
Through only two episodes, it’s hard to tell if “Lucky Hank” could use a bit more of “Saul’s” eagerness to gaze into the darkness, or if it’d be better off dialing up its softer side. The “everything and the kitchen sink” approach taken by co-showrunners Aaron Zelman and Paul Lieberstein leaves enough room to pivot toward what’s working as the season goes on, but also too...

Time for some inside baseball: reviewing TV can be tricky. When I review a movie, I'm always given a full picture; a beginning, middle, and end. TV is a different beast, because most of the time, networks will only send out a handful of episodes to review instead of a full season. And as almost anyone can tell you, a lot of TV shows take a little time to get to that sweet spot. It's very rare to have a show that's firing on all cylinders right out of the gate — unless the show is an episodic sitcom, you need time to spend with the characters as they deal with their various ever-unfolding conflicts.
All of this is to say that it's not an easy task to review "Lucky Hank," Bob Odenkirk's return to both TV and AMC. Only two episodes were provided for review, and as a whole,...

Bob Odenkirk discussed his follow-up role to Better Call Saul in Lucky Hank alongside co-star Mireille Enos, showrunners Aaron Zelman and Paul Lieberstein and executive producer Mark Johnson while talking to The Hollywood Reporter in its SXSW Studio at South by Southwest on Saturday.
The upcoming AMC series follows William Henry Deveraux, Jr. (Odenkirk), an unlikely chairman for the English department at the underfunded Railton College.
After starring as Saul Goodman on Better Call Saul from 2015-2022, Odenkirk said he was interested in Lucky Hank because the character is very different than Saul.
“There’s some very obvious ways it’s quite different. But for me, internally, this character’s self-awareness is quite different from Saul,” he told THR at the Austin festival. “It was hard to play a guy who is as clueless about himself as Saul was, about the big things about himself. Television is a relatively new indulgence for South by Southwest. What started as a music conference and market for the exchange of pop cultural ideas in 1986 quickly grew into a full-blown film festival by 1994. It wasn’t until 2014, however, that TV fully got its due with the addition of “Episodic” programming to the SXSW Film Festival.
Now, nearly 10 years after television first arrived to the Austin, Texas get-together, the People’s Medium is well and truly having its moment at SXSW 2023. No fewer than 20 TV shows will have their premieres at SXSW this time around, running the gamut from tentpole streaming sci-fi to little-known pilots in search of a forever home

Only a handful of writers in television history have built a bona fide empire. Few who have done so have been women or PoC. Regardless of what you think of her shows, TV royalty Shonda Rhimes deserves respect for her groundbreaking success. Rhimes' workplace dramas have biting dialogue, steamy workplace affairs, and characters fighting tooth and nail to win. There's a passionate fandom surrounding her work, which makes the viewing experience doubly exciting.
With eleven shows underneath the "Shondaland" banner, it's not a surprise that not all of them are hits. Few contemporary shows have come anywhere close to matching the success of her first project, "Grey's Anatomy," and each subsequent series, in some way, has to contend with that legacy. But Rhimes is nothing if not prolific. Her career has only gotten more expansive since that first smash hit. Since moving from ABC to signing a deal with Netflix,...

Bob Odenkirk is going through a midlife crisis in the AMC series, “Lucky Hank”.
Adapted from the Pulitzer Prize-winning novel, Straight Man, by Richard Russo, the “Breaking Bad” and “Better Call Saul” alum plays Hank Devereaux Jr., head of the English department at the underfunded Railton College, whose life begins to fall apart. Hank’s unhappiness is rooted in unresolved issues with his father, a mediocre and entitled student body and the fact that his department is more divided than ever. ‘The Killing”s Mireille Enos co-stars as Lily Devereaux, Hank’s wife and vice principal of a local high school, who starts to question the path she’s on and the choices she’s made amid his downward spiral.
The newly released trailer reveals the extent of Hank’s discontentment as he publicly declares to a class of students that they’re swimming in mediocrity and because they’re...
