The episode of The Black Sheep covering DeepStar Six was Written, Narrated, and Edited by Lance Vlcek, Produced by Lance Vlcek and John Fallon, and Executive Produced by Berge Garabedian.
Sean S. Cunningham will always be primarily remembered for directing the original Friday the 13th, but he has taken the helm of some other movies that are worth checking out, like 1985’s The New Kids and the subject of the latest entry in our Black Sheep video series, DeepStar Six (get it Here).
Released in 1989 and often compared to its fellow ’89 release Leviathan (which has also gotten the Black Sheep treatment), DeepStar Six was scripted Geoff Miller and Lewis Abernathy – which is interesting because movies like Leviathan and DeepStar Six exist because James Cameron’s The Abyss was coming out the same year, and Abernathy and Cameron are pals. Abernathy even had an acting role in Titanic.

Dick Butkus, the ferocious Chicago Bears middle linebacker who brought his reputation as an NFL barbarian to Hollywood for Miller Lite commercials, sitcoms and films, has died. He was 80.
A member of the Screen Actors Guild for more than four decades, Butkus died peacefully in his sleep overnight at his home in Malibu, his family announced Thursday.
From 1987-89, Butkus had a recurring role as cafe owner Ed Klawicki on My Two Dads, an NBC sitcom about two single men (Paul Reiser, Greg Evigan) raising a teenage daughter (Staci Keanan).
Butkus joined the NBC Saturday morning series Hang Time in 1998 as old-school Deering High Tornados basketball coach Mike Katowinski, taking over for former NBA star Reggie Theus, and he worked on that show for its final three seasons.
Earlier, Butkus was a regular on two short-lived, light-hearted network dramas: ABC’s Blue Thunder, which featured Dana Carvey and a gadget-filled helicopter,...

Dick Butkus, a Hall of Famer who was among the greatest, most respected and most feared players in NFL history and also had a long acting career in TV, film and commercials, died overnight in his sleep at his Malibu home. He was 80.
His family confirmed the news on social media.
After back-to-back All-America seasons at the University of Illinois, Butkus was picked No. 3 overall by his hometown Chicago Bears in 1965. A fearsome force on the field and rather gentle giant off of it, he spent his entire injury-shortened nine-season career with the club, redefining the linebacker position in the process.
Dick Butkus circa 1965
Active from 1965-73, Butkus was named to the NFL’s All-Decade Team for both the 1960s and ’70s and was selected for the All-Time NFL Team in 2000. A six-time All-nfl selection and two-time Defensive Player of the Year, he played in eight consecutive Pro Bowls and...

This big, expensive and well-produced action-suspense Sci-fi epic mostly delivers on its promise to be Aliens at the bottom of the sea. At heart it’s a 1950s pulse-pounder with a bigger monster, a zillion times the budget and a script that does everything but make us care. We appreciate the likable characters but it’s too easy to predict who will ‘get it’ next. The realism factor is not bad at all, although the undersea explorer video training sessions should have given ‘how not to crack up under stress’ more emphasis. And can’t anybody properly mind those pesky nuclear bombs?

While it may not be Friday, there is still plenty to celebrate this Tuesday the 13th, as we prepare to head back to Camp Crystal Lake with Scream Factory’s impressive Friday the 13th Collection, which brings together all the films from the original franchise, as well as the remake and Freddy vs. Jason as well. Scream Factory also put together a Blu-ray release of one of the most seminal films from my childhood this week—Terror in the Aisles—and they even are giving Motel Hell the Steelbook treatment on Tuesday as well.
Kino Lorber is also keeping busy this week with their special edition Blu for DeepStar Six as well as a SteelBook for Rawhead Rex, and for those of you who dig on The Exorcist sequels, both Dominion and Exorcist: The Beginning come home on Blu-ray this Tuesday, courtesy of Sony Pictures Home Entertainment.

One thing that Greg Evigan isn’t, is irrelevant, since he’s been around for a while and has done a few things that have managed to get him noticed by a lot of people including an acting and music career. If you don’t know of him it could be due more to the fact that he’s been in movies and shows that you just don’t watch, but that hasn’t lessened his popularity among fans any since he’s been front and center for a good long while when it comes to certain movies and TV shows that a lot of people are

Membership First, the “loyal opposition” at SAG-AFTRA, has unveiled its slate of candidates in the upcoming elections. Patricia Richardson is running for president of the guild’s Los Angeles local, and Frances Fisher and David Jolliffe are vying for two local vice president slots. As previously reported, Matthew Modine heads the slate in his bid to unseat Gabrielle Carteris as president of SAG-aftra, and Jodi Long is running for national secretary-treasurer.
Richardson, who is the La local’s first vp, was defeated by incumbent Ken Howard four years ago in the race for president of the 160,000-member union — “We have the largest local, half the union’s members,” Richardson said in her campaign statement. “Our building, doubling as national headquarters and our home, now a construction site rented at $6,000,000 a year, is inadequate for our needs. We still have to rent other spaces for any large meetings. Thanks to Membership First,...

Chicago – Every fall in the Chicagoland area, it’s “The Hollywood Show.” This annual event showcases celebrities from TV and film, both current and from the nostalgic past, greeting fans and signing autographs. The September of 2013 show featured “I Dream of Jeannie” TV show personalities Barbara Eden and Bill Daily, plus notable cast reunions of TV’s “My Three Sons” and the 1973 film version of “Jesus Christ Superstar.”
HollywoodChicago.com covered the event, and photographer Joe Arce put the show’s participants in front of the lens. “The Hollywood Show” will be back in Chicago in September, 2014. VH1 has ordered a reality series that would follow Eddie Cibrian and LeAnn Rimes. I might be tempted to tune in and hit the fast forward button until I see Cibrian in some sort of state of undress, but I’m not particularly interested in their tabloid drama.
Or maybe there’s an Eddie Cibrian calendar I can buy instead.
Deadline reports that NBC has ordered a comedy pilot from Happy Endings creator David Caspe. Mad About You, Marry Me follows a young newlywed couple who quickly realize marriage is harder than they expected. I’m starting to detect some familiar themes.
It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia‘s Glenn Howerton will appear in a multi-episode arc on The Mindy Project, according to E! Online. There are some minor spoilers in Howerton’s role.

In today’s edition of questionable-sounding ideas, producers are trying to sell an Exorcist series.

Were you a part of the delightful cultural phenomenon on Twitter Thursday, July 11 when Syfy aired its original movie "Sharknado"? Want to do it again?
"Ghost Shark" is coming your way Thursday, Aug. 22 at 9 p.m. Et/Pt on Syfy -- "a great white shark is tortured and killed by a fisherman, then returns from the dead, exacting vengeance on all humans."
"When Ava's (Mackenzie Rosman, all grown up now but formerly of "7th Heaven") father is brutally murdered, no one believes that the ghost shark got him -- except the crazy lighthouse keeper Finch ("Night Court's" Richard Moll). Ava and her friends take the problem into their own hands as they desperately try to survive the bloody wrath of the ghost shark."
So, it sounds like part "Jaws IV," part "Scooby Doo" mystery and All fun.

While they may not necessarily be the villains and get all the glory, there's something to be said for the douchebag characters of the horror genre- they often add to the drama of any given situation, they generally complicate things and they make it oh, so fun to hate them.
That being said, I thought it might be kind of fun to look back at some of my favorite douchebag characters of the horror genre- past and present. The only rule? They aren't the film's "big bad." Be forewarned, though: If you haven't seen some of these films, this countdown may get a little spoiler-y for you.
So, in the immortal words of Kanye West, "Let's have a toast for the douchebags" and check out some of this writer's favorite unsavory characters in the horror genre of all time.

Metal Tornado
Directed by: Gordon Yang
Cast: Lou Diamond Phillips, Greg Evigan, Nicole deBoer
Running Time: 1 hr 30 mins
Rating: PG
Due Out: May 22, 2012
Plot: A failed attempt to harvest energy from solar flares creates a tornado in Pennsylvania that has a magnetic appetite.
Who’S It For?: If you don’t like science, this movie might be fun for you. It has tornadoes and people talking about magnets, but that’s just fluff in the larger scheme of Metal Tornado. The content of the movie is fine for families, though the amount of attention it will garner from anyone in your clan is not guaranteed.
Movie:
An old roommate of mine constantly tries to defend M. Night Shyamalan’s The Happening as an intentional B-movie, saying that the laughably corny film was made to be just that. Apparently, this is a defense that Shyamalan has used himself.

I live in an extraordinary time; I have had the rare privilege of being born at the exact right moment that would allow me to watch the rise, and fall, of Lou Diamond Phillip’s stardom.
Ever since I saw him at his height in Young Guns (almost as brilliant as the sequel, Young Guns II), just a scant few years after his portrayal of '50s rocker Ritchie Valens, I have secretly been saddened by his waning acting career.
I think it was 1999’s Bats that killed it. Or was it Walter Hill’s Supernova? Either way, it has never been the same. He’s gone the way of Judd Nelson and C. Thomas Howell. His latest starring role in Metal Tornado is perhaps his greatest B-movie role,...

Imagination Worldwide has recently finished production on the sci-fi thriller Metal Tornado. The film brings the "destructive power" of magnetic tornadoes on Mercury to Earth. That is not a good idea. Soon, disaster strikes as the tornadoes gain energy and size, outside of the laboratory. A release date has not been announced, but fans of natural disaster thrillers can have a look at the early film art. Expect Metal Tornado on television soon, with more details on this production swirling below.
The synopsis for Metal Tornado is here:
"When astronomers discovered the phenomena of magnetic tornadoes on the planet Mercury, they were amazed by the destructive power of these gargantuan solar-fueled magnetic fields…but they never imagined witnessing the catastrophic forces in their own backyards.
Samuel Planck is head of the Helios Project — a high tech facility tasked with storing and converting solar rays into an endless supply of renewable energy.

So, I'm perusing my usual arsenal of sites I scan before finally deciding to write about Lindsay Lohan or Snooki again, and I come across this newsbit:
ABC Family has picked up an additional one-hour scripted drama, "Jane By Design." ... "Jane By Design" (formerly "What Would Jane Do"), a light-hearted drama, follows Jane, a teenager who lands a job at a hip retail company when they mistake her for an adult. Jane soon finds herself juggling life both as a regular high school student and as an assistant to a high powered executive in the cutthroat world of fashion... all while trying to keep her true identity a secret.
Does that sound familiar to anyone else? What do you think, Christina Applegate?
My reaction exactly. What's that, you say? Out ABC Family for very obviously rehashing a cultish early '90s movie plotline? I'm right on top of that, Rose.

When 28-year-old George Lucas first set out to make American Graffiti in 1972, the only time he smiled during the five-week shoot was when Wolfman Jack made armpit noises.
Kenny Loggins admitted that “Playing With the Boys” was not the song that “Danger Zone” was, but he couldn’t help but grin every time that Top Gun check arrived.
Once Greg Evigan tried to shove Paul Reiser into oncoming traffic, there was no repairing that relationship and My Two Dads quickly sank.

Looking for a unique way to wish someone a "Happy Birthday"? Or struggling for a gift that says "Thanks For Being A Great Boss"? Well HollywoodIsCalling.com might be your answer.
For just $19.95 you can buy a live phone call with a slew of Hollywood stars. If you're a retro TV fan, you might like a "Have a Nice Day" greeting from Russell Johnson or Dawn Wells from Gilligan's Island. Or how about a "Good Luck" message from Mark Goddard or Marta Kristen from Lost in Space.
Butch Patrick from The Munsters can wish you a "Happy Halloween," while Ron Palillo from Welcome Back Kotter would be a good candidate for the "Congratulations on a Great Report Card" call.
You could have Alex Michael from The Bachelor call and propose to your girlfriend for you. Or maybe that job's better left to a real man like...

If you have Netflix and are a horror fan in need of something to watch this Labor Day weekend, one look at this gargantuan list I compiled of the new terror titles Netflix has added for instant streaming in just the first three days of this month should keep you busy until Labor Day next year. You'll find something for everyone, from older titles to recent releases, famous to obscure, classic to not-so-classic, monsters to maniacs - you name it.
For the record, I considered compiling this list in alphabetical order or by year of the film's release, but then I realized I had already spent well over an hour just sorting through the massive catalogue of titles Netflix has now made available for instant streaming and realized Labor Day would be over by the time I finished arranging this list in any kind of order. Ready? Here you go.

Briana Evigan, daughter of 80’s TV icon Greg Evigan has been slowly been making a name for herself in Hollywood with roles in movies such as Step-Up 2 (a guilty pleasure of mine), S. Darko and Sorority Row.
Her latest film, Burning Bright, will receive it’s UK premiere at London’s Film4 FrightFest next week, before hitting DVD on September 6th 2010. Briana took time out to talk to Blogomatic3000 about Burning Bright, as well as her other forthcoming movies Mother’s Day and Monster Heroes. We even discuss the Step-Up movies!
First off, Burning Bright… the film had me hooked when it was described to me as “girl trapped in a house with a tiger”
[Laughs] Yeah, you’re like, “Really?”
Oh yes… How did you react when you first read the script?
I was a little bit worried about it, I wasn’t crazy about the script when I first read it.

Gloucester - The night Sebastian Junger arrived in town, it was a rather mild and cloudless day. There would be need to use the phrase “The Perfect Storm” to hype the writer’s talk and signing at Raleigh’s Quail Ridge Books. It was The Perfect Mild.
This appears to be a rarity in today’s journalism. Anything that happens now gets blamed on “A Perfect Storm” of calamities after Junger’s book about the doomed fishermen. Wall Street meltdown, Bp well disaster and McRib are all given The Perfect Storm treatment. Sadly enough, he does not get a nickel every time it’s said on TV.
This appearance didn’t include tales of the people who put seafood on your table or George Clooney’s pranks. Junger spoke of the men who fight for America in Afghanistan. The Second Platoon, B Company, 2nd Battalion, 503rd Infantry Regiment of the...

Phantom Racer was a SyFy original that was released on the channel in November. If you missed the premiere, February 16th is your second chance to watch demon car trunks chew people in two. Sometimes people just cannot let go of a grudge. In the case of Phantom Racer Nascar driver McCullough will not let got of the stick-shift, or the the steering wheel, as he torments track rival Jj Sawyer (Greg Evigan), from the afterlife. The film has been described at Dreadcentral as "decent acting and the campy car kills are the only things keeping Phantom Racer from completely crashing and burning" (Dread). That sounds like two thumbs up from this side of the keyboard, but SyFy originals are known for their campiness and reliance on the viewer's suspension of reality, or good taste. Have a look at the trailer that shows one deadly encounter between an unknown character...

Briana Evigan is on the fast track to becoming a scream queen, not that there's anything wrong with that, as scary movies have paved the way to stardom for more than a few talented and aspiring actresses. The 22-year-old – who gained her first real measure of fame as the leading lady in Step Up 2: The Streets – has already appeared in House of the Damned, a segment of the TV horror anthology Fear Itself, and the DVD sequel S. Darko. And to that list add Sorority Row, Burning Bright, and Mother’s Day. Opening nationwide on September 11, Sorority Row is a redux of the 1983 film The House on Sorority Row. In the new film, a group of sorority sisters – played by Evigan, Jamie Chung, Audrina Partridge, Rumer Willis and Leah Pipes, among others – must contend with the fallout of a prank that turns deadly. One of the girls dies and...

Thursday, September 3, has seen the Los Angeles premiere of Summit Entertainment's horror thriller "Sorority Row". While red carpet was rolled down in front of ArcLight Hollywood, the special screening was dominated with black as many of the film's stars and other celebrity guests coming were opting to dress in the dark color.
Rumer Willis who stars as Ellie, Briana Evigan who takes on Cassidy, Audrina Patridge who plays Megan, and Jamie Chung who portrays Claire all went dark on the special occasion. Their co-stars, Leah Pipes and Margo Harshman, however chose to go with a lighter color. Pipes went with light magenta, while Harshman wore an ivory white gown.
Some of the girls didn't walk down the red carpet solo. Willis arrived accompanied by her boyfriend Micah Alberti and celebrity mother Demi Moore. Meanwhile, Evigan brought along her famous family, mother Pamela Serpe, father Greg Evigan and sister Vanessa Lee Evigan.

The Sci-Fi Channel's name change to Syfy makes me think of a scene from the classic miniseries "Roots". The evil white man wanted to change Kunta Kinte's name to Toby. They whipped him until he said it. Afterwards, a fellow African told him they can call him whatever they want; he knows his true name is Kunta Kinte. Bonnie Hammer can use that bullwhip on me all she wants; I know that Syfy will always be Sci-Fi, and not just because the words are pronounced exactly the same.

Let The Right One In (Magnolia) An awkward 12 year-old boy, ignored by his mother and the target of bullies, finds himself drawn to his new neighbor: a girl his own age who only appears at night, and seems herself to be as lonely an outcast as he. Haunting film from Sweden is best described as The 400 Blows meets Nosferatu, and contains some of the most haunting imagery of any film in recent memory. Truly a unique and memorable work. Bonuses: Deleted scenes; Featurette; Photo and poster gallery. Widescreen. Dolby 5.1 surround.
Paramount Centennial Collection Paramount offers two more classic titles, restored, remastered and loaded with extras. Alfred Hitchcock’s To Catch A Thief stars Cary Grant as a retired jewel thief trying to enjoy his sunset years on the French Riviera with a minimum of drama, until he catches the eye of a high-maintenance heiress (Grace Kelly,...

Rag on Sci-Fi Channel original movies all you want - I know I often do; but somebody (besides me) must be tuning in given how much they keep on cranking them out. As a matter of fact, the ratings for these films are steadily increasing. Sci-Fi plans for 36 news films in 2009, and today we're getting a taste of things to come.
The Hollywood Reporter put out a story about the ongoing working arrangement among the Sci-Fi Channel, distribution company Rhi Entertainment, and production company Muse Entertainment. The three newest monster fruits of their creative loins are:
Sand Serpents: Jason "Iron Eagle" Gedrick stars in this monster movie about American combat soldiers in the Afghan desert who battle the Taliban and a horde of giant carnivorous serpents.
Alien Western: An Old West town in the 1890s is the battleground where monstrous buglike machines from another world stage their invasion.
Carney: Based on the Jersey Devil legend,...

Bluewater Productions has added William Shatner to their growing line of celebrity endorsed comic books. Following in the footsteps of Ray Harryhausen, Vincent Price and Roger Corman, Shatner will have comics based on his novels including Man O' War and Quest for Tomorrow. These will be published as miniseries, continuing the stories with talent yet to be announced.
His TekWar, written with Ron Goulart and an unnamed fourth title round out the commitment between the actor and the publisher. TekWar will also be a continuation. All four are scheduled to come out in the first quarter of 2009, available in comic shops as the hoopla surrounding the reboot of Star Trek edges towards its May 8 release.
The TekWar universe was adapted previously by Marvel Comics in the early 1990s and ran for 24 issues, written solely by Goulart. Darren G. Davis, president of Bluewater, has promised the ongoing series will be more...

One of the biggest films left this year is Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, the sixth of eight films based on the seven books by J.K. Rowling (yes, Deathly Hallows will reportedly be split into two movies). The series has amassed $1.4 billion in the U.S. alone, and its past two entries have been its most profitable.
And now that we're six movies in, why should we be any more interested than before? How about a young Voldemort? Yep, the villain recently named by Moviefone as the number one bad guy in movie history did have a childhood, albeit not one as cool as the girl from that sitcom who had the two dads played by Paul Reiser and Greg Evigan.
As you may already know, Voldemort was once Tom Riddle (Hero Fiennes-Tiffin, nephew of Ralph Fiennes, who plays the serpentine Voldemort), and we're supposed to see a little...

Sci Fi has expanded and reorganized its wide-ranging businesses under a new umbrella, Sci Fi Ventures, it said Sunday at the TCA press tour.
Sci Fi Ventures will drive maximum value from the unique relationship between the cable network and its audience, said Dave Howe, Sci Fi president. "Sci Fi has the power and the imagination to reach beyond the television screen to become a total global lifestyle brand."
In addition to the cable channel, Sci Fi Ventures is to include Sci Fi Media (SciFi.com, Dvice and Fidgit and a new theatrical film banner, Sci Fi Films); Sci Fi Games (a partnership with Trion Worldwide and an equity stake in BigPoint Games); Sci Fi Gear (licensed product lines); Sci Fi Publishing (Sci Fi/Virgin Comics); and Sci Fi Kids (fantasy and imaginative products for youngsters).
In addition, Sci Fi announced it will move ahead with three new series:
-- "Cash or Capture," a reality competition based on a Japanese show in which the contestant is chased by hunters. Six one-hour episodes from Buena Vista Productions and Fujisankei Communications International, starting in November.
-- "Estate of Panic," a physical and psychological competition with contestants enduring terror in a mansion. Six one-hour episodes from Endemol USA exec produced by Richard Hall, starting in November.
-- "Outer Space Astronauts," a comic combination of live action, 3D and 2D involving an inept crew in space. Five 30-minute episodes exec produced by Russell Barrett, Scott Puckett and David O. Russell.
New scripted series in development include a Bryan Singer miniseries project, an action-adventure miniseries, and "What If?" a one-hour pilot in which a near-collision with a comet triggers a new ice age. New alternative series are "Soul Evidence," in which medium Allison Dubois leads a team of crime-solving psychics; "Danger Game," a look at an organization that creates alternative reality experiences; "Relic Quest," a search for artifacts around the world; and "Escape," in which three contestants try to find their way out of a locked room.
Meanwhile, Sci Fi will boost the number of original movies in 2009 by 50%. Next year, the network will show 36 new movies, 12 more than in 2008. Stars include Peta Wilson, Rick Schroder, Shannen Doherty, Greg Evigan and Adrian Paul.
