Served as general director of the Little Theatre of Monroe, Louisiana and co-executive director of the Gallery Circle Theatre in New Orleans.
Studied drama at Tulane after the war and made his stage debut in 1947, graduating from Tulane in 1949.
Served in the Army during WWII and earned a Bronze Star and Purple heart during the landing at Okinawa in 1945.
