It’s been a quarter century, and as great as slow burns are, with this one, it’s time to leave the “what if?” in the past. Law & Order: Svu and Organized Crime has had some serious misfires when it comes to this one with former partners Captain Olivia Benson (Mariska Hargitay) and Detective Elliot Stabler (Christopher Meloni). At numerous times over the years, first when they were partners — including a time when he and his wife Kathy (Isabel Gillies) were separated — and since, it’s seemed like they were just one breath away from going there, only to take a step back and continue to draw it out. And both shows could have pulled the trigger. Elliot and Kathy could have never reunited. Benson and Stabler could have kissed. That letter could have been a bridge between his past and his present. That missive first came up — it was...

The good news when it comes to the Law & Order: Svu Season 23 finale: Raúl Esparza is back as Rafael Barba. The bad news: Things are still very tense between him and Captain Olivia Benson (Mariska Hargitay) after he defended Richard Wheatley (Dylan McDermott) during the murder trial for Detective Elliot Stabler’s (Christopher Meloni) wife (Isabel Gillies). As the promo for “A Final Call at Forlini’s Bar” shows, Barba is coming in after the squad provides help and protection for a longtime domestic violence victim, only she ends up at the defendant’s table in court. So, Detective Amanda Rollins (Kelli Giddish) turns to Barba, which is going to be a surprise for her boyfriend, Ada Sonny Carisi (Peter Scanavino). In fact, in the preview, Carisi looks a bit confused since he thought Benson and Barba “weren’t even speaking.” Is that when he’ll find out who called his opponent?...

Richard Wheatley (Dylan McDermott) remains at large on Law & Order: Organized Crime, but as the promo for the March 3 episode teases, it’s time for “the final showdown” between him and Detective Elliot Stabler (Christopher Meloni). Wheatley has already taken Stabler’s wife Kathy (Isabel Gillies) from him (in the Svu crossover that launched Meloni’s spinoff). Is another member of the detective’s family next? In the promo for the aptly-titled “Wheatley Is to Stabler,” the detective’s nemesis declares, “I want Stabler to pay with his very soul.” Stabler, of course, taunts him, but has a warning as well: “This is not going to end the way you think it is.” As Wheatley sees it, however, “I always win in the end, don’t I?” And he may be right, considering it looks like he’s holding Stabler’s mother, Bernadette (Ellen Burstyn), somewhere. “Elliot, you gotta find me,...

“It was a good gig,” recalls Law & Order: Svu actress Isabel Gillies of the 12 seasons she played Kathy Stabler on the NBC show. When she returned to the character after a 10-year hiatus, Gillis writes in a substack blog post, something had “seriously changed.”
It wasn’t the show’s stars Mariska Hargitay and Chris Meloni, whom Gillies called “friends and former colleagues.” It wasn’t anything to do with the production, which she fondly said was “just like the ol’ days.” No, it was the reaction on social media — which didn’t exist during her first go-around on the show.
After the episode aired, Gillies in her post describes the reaction on Twitter as follows:

The “Law & Order” universe returns with new storylines for its “Svu” and “Organized Crime” shows on Thursday, Sept. 23, and with that comes the question of where the relationship between former partners and longtime friends Commander Olivia Benson (Mariska Hargitay) and Detective Elliot Stabler (Christopher Meloni) is headed on Season 23 of main show and the second season of its spinoff series.

At a virtual junket for Law & Order: Organized Crime today, stars Christopher Meloni and Dylan McDermott teased the inevitable face-off to come between Meloni’s Detective Elliot Stabler, and McDermott’s mafia boss, Richard Wheatley, as the NBC spin-off’s Season 1 finale approaches.

I think [Wheatley’s] going to get the short end of that deal,” said Meloni. “A lot of things get answered, but then a couple other big questions arise, so there’s going to be a continuing saga, I believe.”
