Bobby Brown is leaving his daughter Bobbi Kristina's bedside to go back on the road overseas, but if he had things his way ... he'd be cancelling the whole trip. According to our sources, Brown is scheduled to play three shows in Australia with Treach and Kay Gee of Naughty By Nature at the end of May -- and, for obvious reasons, he is in no mood to go. We're told the dates are make-ups for...

On Monday, while huge swaths of the U.S. were preparing and/or cowering from an endlessly hyped snowstorm, there was a little pocket of sunshine growing on the Internet. And that little pocket is Rolf the Muppet singing Biz Markie's "Just a Friend." The video is as advertised: Rolf tickles the ivories as he sings the 1989 mega-hit, with Miss Piggy making an appearance as the object of this Muppet's affection. (Sorry, Kermit: It looks like you have some serious competition.) There's a slight hint of bitterness in the bio of the video's creator, "isthishowyougoviral." The pair, who will seek counseling from Dr. Jenn Berman and her staff, have already begun filming as production kicked off two days ago. When the Grammys introduced the Best Rap Album category in 1995, it started off on the wrong foot by awarding Naughty By Nature's "Poverty's Paradise" instead of Tupac Shakur's "Me Against The World" and I am pretty sure Sean "Puffy" Combs would agree with me that his friend The Notorious B.I.G.'s "Life After Death" should have won instead of his debut album "No Way Out" in 1997. Otherwise the winners have not been that debatable. Eleven times in this category's 18-year history an Album of the Year nominee has won Best Rap Album. Unlike other genre album categories, an Album of the Year nominee has yet to lose in the Best Rap Album category. This is the third time there have been two rap works nominated for Album of the Year and Best Rap Album in the same year: Kendrick Lamar's "good kid, m.A.A.d city...

"The main thing about Marty's use of music is he's fearless, creatively fearless," music supervisor Randall Poster recently told THR about working on "The Wolf Of Wall Street" and he's certainly not kidding. While the official soundtrack release for the film features 16 songs, that's a mere drop in the water of the nearly 60 tunes licensed for the movie. As you might expect, the nearly three hour epic is packed with music with nary a frame going by without a song to go with it. And below we have a taste of just how wide-reaching the music goes and some of the key cuts that are missing from the store bought soundtrack. Perhaps most notably, Foo Fighters' "Everlong" backs a key sequence in the film while hip hop cuts by Cypress Hill, Sir Mix A Lot and Naughty By Nature are also pretty prominent. And while Ahmad Jamal gets one cut on the official soundtrack,...

BBC4′s Sound of Cinema: The Music That Made The Movies is proving to be a fascinating and hugely enjoyable series, reminding us of a wealth of musical moments that have defined the films they’ve featured in and thereby the history of film itself. It is a series that is focussed on soundtracks and musical cues, rather than musical films themselves, but it has gotten me thinking about musicals and their seemingly unparalleled ability to move and enthrall.
The history of musicals is so rich and varied that any list shy of 100 is going to miss something important and so this very brief top ten is bound to be reductive, but hopefully everyone can find something resonant here.

Miley is not only showing off her rap skills in Mike WiLL Made It’s video for ’23.’ They video leaked on Sept. 24, and then was tweeted out from Miley herself — and it shows a side of her we’ve never seen!
The audio of “23″ dropped back in August, and we were shocked to hear Miley Cyrus‘ rap skills. Mike WiLL Made It‘s song, which also features Wiz Khalifa and Juicy J is mostly Miley rapping — and of course, there are some raunchy lyrics.

Miley looks sexy and basketball-chic in the new video for “23,” the hit song by producer Mike Will Made It. With a saavy Naughty by Nature reference, Miley rocked out in a sexy Michael Jordan jersey — and we’re obsessed with this new look.
In a new interview, Mike reveals that Rock City actually wrote Miley’s rap verse.

She's already got twerking down, and now we can add rapping to Miley Cyrus' long list of skillz. The former Disney darling appears on Mike Will Made It's latest single, "23." Rappers Juicy J and Wiz Khalifa also have verses featured on the highly anticipated track. Miley opens up the song by saying, "I'm in the club, high off purp with some shades on/Tatted up, miniskirt and my J's on." She also goes on to say that she's standing on couches, drinking out of the bottle and acting like she "has no respect." The "We Can't Stop" singer also drops a savvy reference to the 1993 Naughty by Nature anthem, "Hip-Hop Hooray." Street...

Miley ‘don’t give a f**k’ on her track, which leaked to the YouTubes on Aug. 27. Listen now!
Miley Cyrus is a woman of many remarkable talents — most notably the ability to twerk despite having no curves whatsoever. But is rapping the latest addition to her resumé? That’s for you to judge, as her just-leaked single “23″ consists almost entirely of Miley rhymes. And, oh yes, they’re filthy.

Real quick mission statement: this column is for discussion of superhero movie news and superhero movies. Titular allegiance aside, this sphere includes non-Marvel properties.
This week: Instead of re-hashing stuff we’ll be talking about for years, this week we’re going to talk about Spawn and black superheroes in their own movies.
There comes a time when examining mainstream media where one runs across a race issue or two. Or seven. Or two-dozen. I’m not sure how much weight to put on the race part of this week’s discussion, but I’m fairly sure talking about it won’t hurt anyone. So let’s talk about Jamie Foxx and Spawn.
Several people and outlets have put together recent comments made by Jamie Foxx about roles he’d like to play with Spawn-creator Todd MacFarlane’s ongoing insistence he’d like to reboot his character into a...

The Soul Train Awards aired last night on Bet with tons of celebs and star-studded tributes. The show, which taped on November 17 at the Fox Theater in Atlanta, Ga, brought out the best and brightest in the music industry and Hollywood.
Sadly some of the nights biggest winners like Beyonce, Rhianna, Chris Brown and Nicki Minaj did not attend the event--leaving not only their seats empty, but also some much needed style inspiration. Though there were a few red carpet standouts (Melanie Fiona, Shaunie O'Neal, Melissa DeSousa and Common), there were also plenty of misses (we'll let you pick those out).
Although Minaj wasn't on hand for the awards, she continued to dominate her male rapper counterparts as she did at the American Music Awards. The eccentric superstar beat out Chris Brown, Kayne West, Jay-z and Lupe Fiasco in the "Best Hip Hop Song" category with her hit "Moment For Life.

It was all about the tributes at this year's Soul Train Awards, which aired Sunday on Bet. A slew of artists paid tribute to the late rapper Heavy D, who died at the age of 44 earlier this month. Also honored with tribute performances were Gladys Knight and the group Earth, Wind & Fire, both of whom were presented with the new Legend Award. Oh, and a few more awards were handed out along the way. The show, which was taped Nov. 17 in Atlanta, was hosted by an energetic Cedric the Entertainer. Paying tribute to Heavy D were several of his closest friends and fellow performers, including Naughty by Nature, Doug E. Fresh, Kurtis Blow and Goodie Mob, who performed some of the rapper's...

Authorities have not yet determined what caused Heavy D's death. After results were inconclusive, the Los Angeles coroner's office has deferred judgment on what killed the rapper/producer (born Dwight Errington Myers) suddenly at age 44 last Tuesday pending the results of toxicology tests.
According to the Los Angeles Times, officials said the autopsy results were unclear and that it could take several more weeks to determine a cause of death. Coroner's spokesperson Ed Winter has already stated that no illegal drugs were found at the rapper's Beverly Hills home, but that a doctor had recently prescribed medicine for a cough.

When people discuss the best rap groups of all time, they usually bring up a handful of early adopters (Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five, Sugarhill Gang), some true gate-crashing visionaries (Run-dmc, Public Enemy) and a convention-defying collective or two (Wu-Tang Clan, Ofwgkta). Rarely do they bring up Naughty By Nature, but the group totally deserves a mention among the rest of those names. Like the game-changers of the late '80s, Naughty By Nature managed to wed the worlds of hardcore rap and pop music for a fusion that became the absolute standard for rap music moving forward. Along the way, they notched a healthy roster of mainstream hits, and on this day in 1993, they released their second album 19 Naughty III, as strong a hip-hop album as you could find in the pre-Puffy '90s.

At the beginning of the '90s, hip-hop was in a state of flux. New forms were starting to emerge, like the Native Tongues-style rap and the continued refinement of gangsta. More and more artists were beginning to infiltrate the pop world as well. Consider Naughty by Nature, who dropped their self-titled second album on this day in 1991.
Technically, Naughty by Nature was the first album credited to the group of the same name, but Treach, Vin Rock and DJ Kay Gee had already put out an album called Independent Leaders under the name New Style in 1989. After scoring a minor hit with "Scuffin' Those Knees," they caught the attention of fellow New Jersey native Queen Latifah, who took them under her wing.

New York — From Dirty Jerz to the dirty South? Naughty by Nature are coming with a brand-new sound on their single "Know Me Better." Vin Rock takes the reins for most of the new record, experimenting with Southern delivery while trying to lure a woman to his bedroom.
"You'll find out you played with toys/ Until you had a Naughty boy," Vinnie raps.
The beat has a club thump over heavy bass and synths.
Meanwhile, Naughty's street leaker "I Got" samples Method Man's voice from his timeless theme song "Method Man." Treach commands the record. "I got a chip on my shoulder that Bill Gates ain't make," he raps. "I got a connect up in Harlem, got a great weight rate."
