Richard Donner’s first feature post- Superman is a complete switcheroo — a small-scale character piece that delivers an impressive lineup of engaging actors. John Savage leads a ‘different’ ensemble of the walking wounded, that congregates at a neighborhood bar. Are friends the best therapy? The movie has a positive sports theme, and the way its characters overcome physical limits and psychological damage feels uplifting, never phony. Diana Scarwid earned an Oscar nomination, and the unappreciated Amy Wright is a heartbreaker in a strong, uncompromised role.

Schmidt on New Girl was (and still is, in my opinion) one of the best characters on TV. Underneath all of his label-obsessed doucheyness, you know that Schmidt is a really good guy who truly cares about his friends, and Max Greenfield’s performance, week in and week out, somehow keeps this outrageous character grounded in the weird and wacky world of New Girl. However, as great as Schmidt is on his own, the idea of two Schmidts (or, in the case of this casting news, an “Alpha Schmidt”) is something I’m not quite sure if I’m ready for, but I should start to prepare myself for it because that’s the exact character that Barry Bostwick will be playing in New Girl‘s Season 4 Christmas episode. As first reported by TVLine, Bostwick will guest star in this year’s holiday-themed episode as “the handsome, well-attired and sophisticated Robert Goodwin.

Fired Apprentice candidate Robert Goodwin has revealed the unusual habit of his reality TV co-star Steven Ugoalah, who apparently washes his feet and face daily in white wine vinegar.
Goodwin was kicked off the show by Lord Sugar tonight (October 15) in a surprise double elimination and revealed that Ugoalah was the most "awkward" person he had to work with on the show.
"Steven was very awkward to work with professionally, but also to get on with personally," Goodwin told Digital Spy.
"You couldn't get to know him, which made it hard to manage him. He was also very aggressive at times."
Revealing Ugoalah's unusual regime, he added: "I was sharing a room with him and he would wash his feet and face with vinegar every night. Which actually stank out the room every night.

Chiles Cartwright has become the first candidate to be fired from this series of The Apprentice.
The 35-year-old company director was sent home by Lord Alan Sugar in tonight's episode after the men's team - Team Summit - lost out to the women in a classic selling task.
Cartwright was brought into the boardroom by project manager Felipe Alviar-Baquero alongside Robert Goodwin, but was sent home by Lord Sugar after making the fateful decision to leave a shipment of T-shirts at the printers instead of trying to sell them.
Goodwin had also appeared in danger for his choice to try to add value to hotdogs with fancy ingredients, as Lord Sugar told him: "I'm not interested in your Shoreditch yuppy arty farty bollocks."
However, he later said: "What frustrates me is the hot dogs, you threw it away. But what frustrates me even more is that those T-shirts are still sitting at the printer.

Sorry this dvd list is coming at you a little later than usual gang, but between fighting with Microsoft about constantly holding my emails in queue and... well that's it actually.
Anyhoo, first on our list of must-see DVDs this week is the 50s spoof flick, Alien Trespass by director R.W. Goodwin. For reasons unknown Image Ent. have given it the "serious" cover you see before you, but rest assured this is definitely a B-movie riff so prepare to giggle.
Alright, moving on we finally have a release of Azazel Jacobs' 2005 existential coming of age film, The Good Times Kid. It has been garnering solid reviews since premiering on the festival circuit and honestly we've been trying to get a screener for ages to no avail. Thank you you beautiful pepole at Benten Films!
Now one for the ladies! Yep, Edward and Bella are back on DVD this week...

One of the more unique films in theaters this weekend is a small, flavorful one called Alien Trespass, directed by R.W. Goodwin. Goodwin is readily associated with "The X-Files," considering he brought audiences more than 100 of TV series' early episodes (as producer and occasional director). Now, however, Goodwin may be better known for achieving the lofty goal of making an authentic 1957 in 2009. Unlike what you might read from the poster, Alien Trespass isn't a spoof or homage to sci-fi films of old. By all accounts, the film is a product of that time, and according to Goodwin he "just happened to make it a little bit later." The quirky film follows, in fantastic detail and style, an alien spaceship landing in the Mojave Desert. Its pilot, Urp, discovers that the Ghota - a one-eyed monster full of malcontent and a ravenous appetite - which was also aboard the ...

As officially synopsized, Alien Trespass begins in 1957 in the star-filled skies above California’s Mojave Desert. It is a special night for noted astronomer Ted Lewis (Eric McCormack), who is preparing a special dinner for his beautiful, adoring wife Lana (Jody Thompson) to celebrate their wedding anniversary. In another part of town, Tammy (Jenni Baird), a waitress at a small local diner with big plans for the future, looks out her window and is excited to see a shooting star, which she takes as a good sign for her dreams. But, what Dr. Lewis and Tammy assume is a shooting star, is really an alien spaceship. The fiery ball hurtles toward Earth and crash-lands on a butte in the desert. The only witnesses are teens Dick (Andrew Dunbar) and Penny (Sarah Smyth) who are necking in a nearby lover’s lane. A tall, metallic alien named Urp emerges from the craft unharmed,...

Fans of '50s sci-fi may want to check out "Alien Trespass," which beautifully captures the look of the genre through cinematographer David Moxness' eye-popping re-creation of super-saturated Technicolor.
Sadly, laughs are sparse in this labor of love, a self-conscious spoof by longtime "X-Files" producer R.W. Goodwin -- most of them come in the faux-newsreel prologue, which claims the feature was shot in 1959 and shelved.
In what amounts to a mash-up of "It Came From Outer Space" and "The Day the Earth Stood Still," Eric McCormack plays a tweedy,...

Alien Trespass is a somewhat misleading title, in that it suggests a type of transgression when the film itself is, for want of a better word, as polite as a movie can be. It means to be a homage to B-monster flicks of the ’50s, a time when low-budget genre fare was far kinder and gentler than it is today. And in that it succeeds—but that’s all it succeeds at.
There’s no spin here, no suggestion of any kind of point of view about science fiction or horror cinema, no edge, no ambition to do anything but replicate the sort of cheap and simple creature features that played drive-ins back in the day. But to what end? It’s pleasant enough to watch an professionally made, but it’s certainly not scary and the situations and characters aren’t exaggerated or clever enough to be truly funny,...

R.W. Goodwin, executive producer ofThe X Files, has long been obsessed with the classic schlock sci-fi films of the 1950s. This week, he will premiere his new film Alien Trespass, an intentionally low-budget ($5 million) Canadian homage to that genre. It looks very amusing - complete with screaming teenagers running out of a theater showing The Blob. Our only suggestion is that he should have shot it in b&w. Click here for more and to view the trailer. ...

This week finds us lampooning the '50s, waxing nostalgic about the '80s and lamenting the fact that Vin Diesel ever made it out of the early '00s. There are also high school kids trying to get off, Brian Cox trying to get out and the finest nomadic goat herder rom-com you'll ever see.

The resurgence of interest in alien invasion and monster movies of the '50s and '60s has reached a feverish pitch in recent years, from the remakes of War of the Worlds and The Day the Earth Stood Still to DreamWorks Animation's latest movie Monsters vs. Aliens , which pays homage to all the greats. It was only time before someone decided to go back in time and recapture the look and feel of the original movies and the man for that job was R.W. Goodwin, long-time director of Chris Carter's "The X-Files", who teamed with writers James Swift and Steven Fisher to create Alien Trespass , a bonafide '50s alien invasion movie that goes as far as humanly possible to recreate all the quirks and nuances that made some of those old movies as scary as they were inadvertently...
