It’s natural that, while you may want to stay on the cutting edge of prestige TV drama and join in all those “How great is Shogun?!” conversations of the moment, there are also times when the world makes you want to shrink down to the size of a Subbuteo player, step into a book illustration from a copy of Thumbelina you owned as a child, and go to sleep underneath a single feather inside a walnut shell.
Those walnut shell moments demand a TV accompaniment that isn’t noisy or confrontational. There should be no difficult thoughts there, just a gentle tide of ‘everything’s okay-ness’ lapping at your brain’s shore. These British TV shows all provide exactly that sense of comfort. Please recommend your own picks below.

Warning: this review contains spoilers.
There you have it: the perfect Inside No. 9 specimen. Macabre, comedic, cleverly plotted, with a little bit of pathos and a gruesome end that – unlike ‘The Devil of Christmas’ – punishes the right person. If this show were taught in schools, ‘The Bones of St Nicholas’ would be the exemplar used to illustrate the classic ingredients of Reece Shearsmith and Steve Pemberton’s show. The setting, the characters, the gags, the reveal, a gross bit about pickling murdered children in brine… this half-hour has it all.
It opens on a snowy and howling Christmas Eve, with the arrival of Pemberton’s Dr Jasper Parkway at a church (filmed at St Mary’s in Rostherne) decorated with twinkling lights and a festive tree. He’s there as part of the C of E’s church-camping or ‘champing’ fundraising initiative – a real programme that lets paying customers bunk...

Harwood owns the role of Jamie New, and his performance stands out in this movie musical.
Everybody's Talking About Jamie follows Jamie New, a 16-year-old boy who is gay and wants to become a drag queen.
Harwoods chemistry electrifies with his on-screen mother (Sarah Lancashire) and his classmate and best friend Pritti (Lauren Patel).
These scenes highlighted the beauty of this story. Based on actual events, Jamie New became a drag queen at the age of 16.
The strength portrayed by Harwood and the rest of the case to tell this story is featured throughout the film's entirety.

Last Sunday’s episode of Doctor Who season 11, “Rosa,” was a historical adventure which saw the Tardis land in 1950s Alabama, where the gang encountered Rosa Parks. It was an incredible hour of Who, moving and powerful on levels we don’t usually see when it comes to the Time Lord and her time traveling shenanigans. And while it was certainly a nice departure, it seems we’ll be getting back to the sci-fi adventures we’re more familiar with when this week’s episode, “Arachnids in the U.K.” debuts.
As you can see from the clip above, the Doctor will drop her team back home in Sheffield for a quick pit stop. However, they’ll arrive just as some strange events are happening. Judging by a previously released synopsis, it seems the episode will feature an invasion of the spiders as well, with the BBC teasing the following:

Now, though, a new synopsis has revealed where the Thirteenth Doctor and her friends will land the following week, in the season’s fourth installment.
It seems a familiar location’s in order, too, as the Doctor will drop her team back home in Sheffield for a quick pit stop. However, they’ll arrive just as some strange events are happening. Titled “Arachnids in the U.K.”, it looks like the episode will feature an invasion of the spiders.
“Something’s happening with the spiders in this city.”
The Doctor, Yaz, Graham and Ryan find their way back to Yorkshire – and Yaz’s family – only to find something is stirring amidst the eight-legged arachnid population of Sheffield.

Labour MP Gareth Thomas has called for soaps to better represent East Asian communities in Britain.
The MP for Harrow West also urged new Culture Secretary Sajid Javid to make sure the Arts Council and Ofcom do more to promote and monitor the diversity of the shows' employees.
He said that soaps like EastEnders and Coronation Street have "disappointing" records when it comes to casting East Asian characters.
The politician explained: "In nearly 30 years I'm told EastEnders has only ever had one regular East Asian character, a young female DVD seller who lasted just six months.
"Given that the East End of London remains one of our most ethnically diverse areas, it's a little odd that Albert Square hasn't had so much as even the proverbial clichéd Chinese takeaway.
"Coronation Street has a similarly disappointing record, waiting until 2011 before an East Asian character appeared there - again they lasted just four months.
