Mvd Entertainment Group has picked up the North American distribution rights to the darkly comedic thriller Wrong Reasons, which was executive produced by and features Kevin Smith. The company is planning to give Wrong Reasons a digital, VOD, Blu-ray, and DVD release on August 15th.
Coming our way from AntiCurrent Productions, the film marks the feature writing and directorial debut of Josh Roush, who has been working for Smith’s company Smodco for the last decade. The story Roush crafted for his film begins as an ambiguously intentioned masked man kidnaps a drug addicted punk rock singer and triggers a police investigation headed by Detective Charles Dobsonas well as a media circus.
The punk rock singer is played by Liv Roush (Holidays), who also produced the film. James Parks (From Dusk Till Dawn 2: Texas Blood Money) is the masked man and Ralph Garman (Ted) is Detective Dobsonas. Their co-stars...

“Yes, baby I’m a homosexual,” sings Darren Hayes over the shimmering Eighties pulse of his first solo album in a decade. This may not seem like much of a newsflash from the man who’s been married to his partner, Richard Cullen, for 17 years. But in recent interviews, the former Savage Garden frontman has spoken tearfully about his most successful years being in the closet, then straight-washed by the music industry when he found the courage to come out.
Shooting the video for his last single, “Insatiable” (2012), he’d been told he looked “too gay”. Now 50, he found himself watching artists such as Troye Sivan and Lil Nas X “just arrive as their authentic selves”. He realised how angry he was that his hard-won self-expression had been “extinguished by men in suits”.
While the title of his new record, Homosexual, is a proud and simple reclamation of the word that once scared Hayes,...

Australian artist Darren Hayes was in his early twenties when he gained fame for his buttery smooth vocals on tracks like "Truly Madly Deeply," "I Want You" and "I Knew I Loved You" for the late '90s pop duo, Savage Garden. Darren shared the stardom on Savage Garden with his contemporary counterpart, Daniel Jones, and produced two pop albums on Columbia records ... one self-titled record, "Savage Garden," in 1997 and the 1999 follow up album, "Affirmation.

When disgraced former NFL star Aaron Hernandez was found dead in his prison cell on April 19 after his suicide, authorities also found his final words to the people closest to him in the form of three handwritten letters.
Authorities have released a copy of one of those documents, which is addressed to Hernandez’s fiancée, Shayanna Jenkins.
“You have always been my soul-mate and I want you to live life and know I’m always with you,” Hernandez’s note to her begins.
“I told you what was coming indirectly!” he writes. “I love you so much and know you are an angel — eternally!

As YouTube viewers the globe over fall fully into the Halloween spirit, the video giant is taking note of some of the content that tends to thrive this time of year. In the same way that Nat King Cole’s The Christmas Song (Chestnuts Roasting On An Open Fire) and Mariah Carey’s holiday classic All I Want For Christmas Is You see an uptick in viewership in December -- and Stevie Wonder’s I Just Called To Say I Love You and Savage Garden’s Truly Madly Deeply are popular come Valentine’s Day -- certain tunes seem tailor made for Halloween.
YouTube pored through its data to determine the 10 tracks that see the highest increase in plays on October 31 -- as compared to average viewership throughout the rest of the year.

There are a lot of different ways to approach a love song. You can take the Savage Garden route, writing all of your lyrics while watching Reese Witherspoon rom-coms and pulling choruses from your elementary school diary, or you can write something a little more vague, giving listeners more room to interpret your words and make it their own.
Or – and this happens less frequently, for good reason – you can set out to make everyone cringe so hard that a neck vein bursts from sheer repulsion. Of course, sometimes that happens no matter what the songwriter’s intentions are. These creepy little ballads are all unsettling in various ways; whether it be from metaphors gone awry, the songwriter actively tried to emotionally scar as many listeners as they could, or just the content of the lyrics leave so much room for warped interpretations.
Either way, we can’t discourage...

The London Underground, also known simply as the Tube, is one of the most famous transport systems in the world and was the first ever rapid transit system. Since opening (in a very limited form) in 1863, it has expanded to feature 11 lines, 270 stations and over 1 billion passengers a year. It is one of the busiest metro rail systems in the world and one of the most iconic and recognisable parts of London life.
Despite its rich and proud history, commuters can find catching the tube more of a necessary nightmare than a pleasurable experience. It’s much too hot all year round, meaning that you’ll stick to the seats in summer and sweat through your coat in winter. Unless you live at the end of the line, you’re unlikely to ever get a seat during peak hour and so will start many of your days pressed into a stranger’s armpit.

Saturday Night Live, Season 40, Episode 8, “James Franco/Nicki Minaj”
Aired December 6, 2014 at 11:30 pm Et on NBC (East coast version watched for review)
Let’s just dive right into this, shall we?
The Host: James Franco is a renaissance man if there ever was one, as he points out in his monologue and practically every time he goes on some kind of comedy variety late night program to promote his work. This never really comes out in his SNL appearances, as Franco comes off as just being happy to be there. Sure, we are always safe in the knowledge that at some point Seth Rogen will show up, as is his wont, and he shows up twice in this episode, but nothing of the non-jester side of Franco ever really shows up when he heads down to 30 Rock. You’ll see hints of the strange underbelly of Franco occasionally,...

"SNL" tends to frontload their strongest sketches, so you never know what you're gonna get in the post-"Weekend Update" portion of the show. Luckily "Overly Full Brain" was one of the most hilarious skits of the night, as James Franco's "Brain Dude" plays host to a slew of cringey '90s references including O-Town, Judge Lance Ito and, yes, even the Savage Garden guy. Props also must go to Jay Pharoah's excellent Fresh Prince impersonation. Remember the one-strap overall trend, everybody? What were we thinking? Shame on you. Although he appeared in last season’s best sketch (“Monster Pals”), James Franco hasn’t actually hosted “Saturday Night Live” in almost exactly five years. With “The Interview” just around the corner, don’t be surprised to see Seth Rogen show up tonight. (I’d be more surprised, but also more delighted, if co-star Lizzy Caplan shows up for a “Masters Of Sex” parody as well.) Franco has been up for anything in his previous “SNL” appearances, and just released a fantastic “SNL” documentary now available on Hulu Plus, so he’s a good host to kick off this final leg of the Fall 2014 season. As always, I’ll be liveblogging each segment. This week, I’m giving everything a “B” just to appease those that quibble with the individual grades I assign. Oh wait, that probably wouldn’t be any better. Grades are imperfect, in-the-moment reactions and nothing more.

A happy 56th birthday to the Queen Herself. I was out for drinks with two friends the other night (Hi, Sue & Jordan!) and somehow the conversation turned to Madonna -- I can't remember how it got there -- and the Best Actress for Evita Golden Globe was discussed. 'Her one shot at an Oscar' ...but then of course she wasn't nominated. (1996 was an overstuffed year in Best Actress of course but even if it hadn't been, The Academy probably would have resisted.) But of course it wasn't her only shot at Oscar. They've snubbed her repeatedly in that Best Original Song category though two songs she sang but didn't write won the actual gold man ("Sooner or Later" from Dick Tracy by Stephen Sondheim and "You Must Love Me" from Evita by Tim Rice and Andrew Lloyd Webber).

How long before we let Michael Jackson rest in peace? Not until the last bit of money has been made from his corpse, apparently. Commerce dictates that as long as there is any demand for Jackson, in any form, that the estate continues to keep him in the public eye. That’s what I thought as I watched a hologram of Jackson “perform” “Slave To The Rhythm,” a previously unreleased song “contemporized” for his new album “Xscape,” on the Billboard Music Awards Sunday night. Yes, there was at first an undeniable thrill to seeing Jackson, even if it was a hologram, dance across the floor again in those moves that we all grew up with, that we know by heart (performed by a "Dangerous"-era Jackson before his looks totally got scary). It's just human nature to yearn for what we miss. There was also awe at the technology that...

You might recognize Adelaide Kane, the star of The CW's historical drama, "Reign." The Australian actress had a recurring role as Cora Hale on "Teen Wolf" this summer and also appeared in the horror/thriller film, "The Purge."
"Reign," however, is the young actress' first starring role. Playing Mary, Queen of Scots -- a real and fascinating woman who ruled Scotland from the age of 6 days -- Kane is at the center of the romance and intrigue that make up the show.
Being the central and starring figure in such an epic story is what makes Adelaide Kane one of Zap2it's Ones to Watch for 2013-14. Meet the young woman with the following Q&A.

In the last episode, one contestant, Romi, suffered the indignity of not being recognized as a “celesbian” at the hotel check-in line, and instead of giving the front desk her credit card like every other guest at the hotel, she bleated and whined like a constipated goat and showed up half an hour to her event. Odds are that if you've seen a "Savages" trailer, poster or TV spot for Oliver Stone's new ensemble crime thriller, you're well aware that there is a lot going on in this film. There's a star-studded cast, lots of drugs, lots of blood, lots of violence.
In the week leading up to the film's release, we've already covered some of the film's serious subjects, like the stars' thoughts on the film's gratuitous violence and equal opportunity nudity, as well as the leading ladies' argument for why their characters are both motivated by love, not war.
[ video unavailable on this device ]
As such, we thought we'd end the week on a humorous note and prep a little quiz for stars Taylor Kitsch, Aaron Johnson and John Travolta to see how familiar they were with other Savages in pop culture. The results were entertaining, to say the least.

Despite being released in January 2011, Adele's 21 is the only album that has sold more that one million copies this year.
At the midway point in 2012, Adele's sophomore album is the year's biggest seller in the U.S. 21 has sold 3.69 million copies according to Nielsen SoundScan; the only other album to come close to Adele's sales is Lionel Richie, whose album Tuskegee sold 912,000 copies.
Meanwhile, "Somebody That I Used to Know," the hit single by Gotye, has sold 5.5 million copies, making it the biggest of the year so far in the States.
Adele has had a tremendous year already, both professionally and personally. Not only did 21 spend 24 nonconsecutive weeks atop the U.S. albums chart, but the British songstress recently announced that she's expecting her first child with boyfriend Simon Konecki.

A little (okay, A Lot of) rain didn't stop the joyful couple from getting married in their intimate beach ceremony! Read on for details of the big day! Reciting vows under an umbrella, Teen Mom 2 star Leah Messer and Jeremy Calvert got hitched (again!) at a lakeside beach in Murrells Inlet, South Carolina with 30 of their friends and family watching. Ok! magazine's cover story revealed details of their white sand wedding! Leah, 20, was barefoot because of the wet sand and wore a white gown by Oleg Cassini. Her twins Ali and Aleeah were flower girls! Leah was walked down the aisle by her stepfather Lee Spears and her biological father, Gary Messer. A guest told the magazine, "She and Jeremy looked at each other when they said ther vows, and it got a little emotional. It was really sweet." Leah and Jeremy's first dance was to "I Know I Loved You" by Savage Garden.

We haven’t done a random ‘music argument’ list in a while, so here’s a topic for discussion: Really lame bands with really intense band names. As in, bands whose actual music doesn’t live up to the aggressiveness, violence, or intensity implied by their band name, often to hilarious degrees. A Crucial Distinction: “Lame” does not necessarily mean “Bad”. I enjoy many of the bands on this list – I enjoy Billy Joel too, for example, but Billy Joel is overwhelmingly lame, and these things are not mutually exclusive. Here are The 15 Lamest Bands With Intense Names, ordered by increasing discrepancy between “Name Intensity” and “Music Lameness”, using official science: 15. Five For Fighting The band name connotes “Five Minutes” for a fighting penalty in ice hockey, or just five people who are “for” fighting, two concepts that are both slightly incongruous with the ever-so-whinily delivered lyric “Only a man...

Brace yourself, because it pains me to revisit last night's American Idol: Even though the Top 4 is a quartet of major talent and power, some of these kids hurt for victory more than the others. It's hard not to root for the hurting troubadours, you know? Hollie Cavanagh and Jessica Sanchez seem like they're clawing for recognition while the dudes receive mammoth amounts of adulation every single week -- and that's regardless of how well they do. (I'm still recovering from Phillip Phillips' "Time of the Season.") But did justice kick in on Thursday night's results? Scroll down to see the eliminated contestant and our memorial.

He may not have made all of the teenage girls scream like last week's "Saturday Night Live" musical guests One Direction, but Gotye's toned-down, mellow performance of "Somebody That I Used to Know" was enjoyable nonetheless.
The Australian singer was joined onstage by artist Kimbra as the two performed their hit single -- sans body paint. However, later in the show, Gotye was on hand to help mock his infamous music video when it was hilariously recreated by "SNL's" Andy Samberg and Taran Killam.

You know you've made it when your song gets covered in an episode of Fox's hit musical comedy "Glee." Just ask the boys of Fun. However, it's not like Gotye needed any help getting his song, "Somebody That I Used to Know," on the charts.

Between her upcoming album Mdna and show-stopping Super Bowl halftime performance, the Queen Of Pop isn't losing her tiara anytime soon; and Darren Hayes has added to the Madonna buzz by covering her 1989 hit "Like A Prayer."
The former Savage Garden frontman took to his guitar and performed a heartfelt, acoustic cover of Madge's tune for BBC Radio 2, bringing a low-key, melodious energy to the song.
