Oscar winner Tom Woodruff Jr., of Amalgamated Dynamics, the acclaimed organization that did the makeups for Alien 3 and The Thing, is going to be directing his first film. That would be Fire City, which is designed as a “multi-platform franchise dealing with a non-religious demon mythology” drawing comparisons to Harry Potter and Lotr.
Brian Lubocki and Michael Hayes will produce the film. Here’s their website that gives you a taste of what Fire City will feel like.

Creature designer Tom Woodruff Jr. of Amalgamated Dynamics (Alien 3, The Thing) is going to sit in the director's chair for his first feature film, Fire City.
Woodruff takes on the first installment of a multi-platform franchise dealing with a non-religious demon mythology.
Described as being more "akin to Harry Potter or Lord of the Rings than Constantine," the film will be produced by Brian Lubocki and Michael Hayes, who made a splash at last year’s Cannes Film Festival with some promotional footage.

Impact wrestling is currently advertising the return of its most exciting tag team the Motorcity Machine Guns. But who are they actually going to wrestle when they return? Team 3D are long gone. Beer Money are feuding with each other. Morgan and Crimson have gone kaput. Ok, there’s the obvious choice of tag team champions Samoa Joe and Magnus but should they really be entered into a top feud right off the bat? This only goes to highlight the distinct lack of depth in tag team wrestling as a whole. Tna once had an amazing tag division that helped set it apart from the new champs every week approach of the WWE, but these days they too have seemingly given up the ghost.
It hasn’t always been like this though. Tag teams were once held with great esteem in the business we love, and the tag titles were...

With Screamfest La celebrating its 11th anniversary this fall (the venerated Los Angeles film festival spearheaded by Rachel Belofsky runs October 14-23 in Hollywood, CA), the fest hosted another of its monthly mixers this past Thursday, March 12, and we were there to snap a few photos and chat with the filmmakers in attendance.
On hand for the event (which took place at Hollywood Boulevard’s tequila bar Te’Kila) were FX artist and reality TV star Frank Ippolito (who teased that his short flick ‘Night of the Little Dead’ is slated for a fest debut in the near future), Kiss Before the Slaughter director John Elfers, Hell’s Belles filmmaker Christian Ackerman, producer Drina Durazo and actor Luke Thompson.
Also in attendance were Chromeskull: Laid to Rest 2 actress Allison Kyler and that flick’s producer Chang Tseng and director (and Almost Human Efx guru) Robert Hall, the latter of whom...

Like The Mona Lisa, City Of Death has been seen, admired and commented on by millions. On its original transmission, it managed to achieve over 16 million viewing figures for the last episode alone. Yeah, this may be partly down to the ITV strike of Autumn 1979, but don’t forget, no one forced people to watch City Of Death part four at gunpoint.
So it’s a hell of an achievement, and what’s more, City has been acclaimed as one of the very best Doctor Who stories ever. Like a good wine it has a bouquet, even if 1979 isn’t exactly a vintage year in most fans’ eyes.
We also know that it’s strikingly different to your average Doctor Who story. It’s the first story to be filmed overseas, as the cast and crew take to Paris for a few days. The end result is a Doctor Who...

Good news. At the time of writing this, Who Head Honcho Steven Moffat has decided to begin the campaign to move the series to an autumn slot. Hopefully, in 2012, all the stories will go out in September or October time, so long as the BBC bosses don’t start wetting their pants over doing battle with Simon The Bland Robot and his entourage of vacant karaoke wannabes.
This is great news, since A) It makes the autumn season more bearable, especially since my favourite season, summer, is dead and gone; B) It’s a refreshing antidote to rubbish like The X Factor or Strictly Come Dancing; and C) It makes more sense to have scares on dark autumn nights rather than in the bright sunshine. Really, the Silence In The Library and Satan Pit two-parters aren’t suited to being viewed on a hot summer’s night.
