The division has been up-and-running for around two years and Managing Director Steve Carsey unveiled a wealth of projects to Deadline in his first interview, some of which have already launched.
That UFO Podcast is one of Storyglass’ early partnerships and covers all things unidentified in the air and ocean, speaking to experts and getting a feel for a topic that is growing in interest.
Carsey stressed the partnership nature of the upcoming podcast, along with the likes of Accidentally Milf with Hollywood-based Glistening Productions, and said the team is looking to “support the independent creator network in podcasting – and not just in audio.”

Natalie Bailey with her Emmy.
Natalie Bailey was set to shoot feature comedy Sumo in South Africa when the pandemic struck, which turned out to be a blessing as she was then asked to serve as set-up director on Aquarius Films’ Sbs miniseries The Unusual Suspects.
The Melbourne-based director, who shot isolation comedy Retrograde for the ABC, readily agreed. She had long wanted to make a 4-parter for Sbs and she was intrigued by the story of immigrants working in Sydney’s affluent Eastern suburbs with strong female characters.
Scripted by Jessica Redenbach, Roger Monk and Vonne Patiag, the plot revolves around the theft of a $10 million necklace from self-made Filipino businesswoman Roxanne Waters’ home during her twins’ birthday party. The suspects include socialite Sara Beasley whose life is crumbling fast, and her long-suffering nanny, Evie De La Rosa, a godmother for other Filipino domestic workers.

Friends for years, Tony Ayres and Andrea Denholm had long wanted to work together but did not have the opportunity – until now.
Denholm is joining Tony Ayres Productions (Tap) next week as head of development after finishing up tomorrow as a producer/partner at Princess Pictures.
Ayres tells If: “I was looking for a head of development and asked Andrea for her advice. Her advice was ‘hire me,’ which was music to my ears. She is great with talent and is one of the most impressive creative producers in the country. We have similar views on the shows we want to make.”
After a happy 10 years at Princess Pictures with the company’s founder Laura Waters, Denholm was up for a new challenge. “Tony is a superstar and a beautiful human being,” she says.

Andrea Denholm.
The restructure of Princess Pictures is nearing completion with the pending departures of producer/partner Andrea Denholm and MD Jenni Tosi.
Denholm finishes up this Friday after 10 years with the production company founded by Laura Waters in 2003.
Tosi, the former Film Victoria CEO who joined a year ago, will depart in mid-November after handing the reins to commercial director and partner Emma Fitzsimons.
These moves follow the exit earlier this year of producer/partner Paul Walton after seven years with Princess Pictures.
The final elements of the revamp are expected to entail an injection of fresh blood. Waters tells If: “These changes have happened organically. I’m quite buoyant about the future: there are exciting things ahead.”

‘How to Stay Married.’
Princess Pictures founder/producer Laura Waters and MD Jenni Tosi have repositioned the production company.
Facing two choices – continue to expand or to consolidate – they chose the latter. “Reviewing our structure and business strategy has been such a healthy process,” Waters, who founded the company in 2003, tells If. “It’s made us go back to our roots and our original purpose. I am feeling re-energised about the company.
“We are passionate and hands-on about unique projects and finding new ways of working with international and local partners.”
The company’s slate includes the second season of Network 10’s How to Stay Married, a co-production with Pablo Pictures, which is in the final stages of financing. Created by Peter Helliar, the first series followed Helliar and Lisa McCune as Greg and Em Butler, who had been married for 14 years and whose lives take unexpected turns after...

Britney Spears is head Down Under soon, you guys! The pop star spilled the beans in a video interview with Peter Helliar on The Project that she'll be visiting Australia sometime in the very future. "I will be back very soon," she shared on the program, but didn't divulge any further details. What she did share with the world, however, was a series of wacky facial expressions in reaction to Helliar's questions. But we're going to chalk it up to a satellite issue—leave Brit alone! The songstress hasn't travelled to Australia in just under six years, as her latest appearance was in November 2009 when she was touring the continent for The Circus Tour. That 14-stop...

Comedian and film-maker Ed Kavalee is seeking a theatrical distributor for his second feature film Border Protection Squad, which takes aim at shows like Seven’s Border Security and the characters behind it.
Kavalee wrote and directed Border Protection Squad with producing duties shared between himself and Christian Clarke, who produced Scumbus, Nick Thompson and Rachel Millar.
Kavalee told Mumbrella’s sister title Encore: “The idea is what would happen if the guys who ran Border Security were more interested in the ratings than what actually came in and out of Australia.”
Last week Encore revealed that Kavalee’s first film Scumbus would be broadcast on Network Ten.
Kavalee said he hoped to talk to distributors about the opportunities of using Twitter to promote Border Protection Squad via his cast’s own followers. He said: “My question is going to be, ‘what’s the best way to get the most...

Has an Australian filmmaker finally cracked the rarely attempted romantic comedy genre? Colin Delaney visits the set of Not Suitable for Children to find out if Oscar nominated, first time feature director Peter Templeman’s flick about testicular cancer has the balls to make it big at the box office.

Inside it’s shoulder-to-shoulder with revellers filling hallways and stairwells. The event is not just thrown together either – flashing lights and disco balls suggest the members of this household take their parties seriously. And the amount of drugs and alcohol circulating certainly deem the environment unsuitable for children.

Encore is on the set of Oscar-nominated Peter Templeman’s feature film debut Not Suitable For Children, starring Ryan Kwanten (True Blood,...

Australia’s first major romantic comedy in years, I Love You Too, debuted at #2 at the Australian box office with $874,533 coming from 228 screens (average $3,835).
The solid performance of film by director Daina Reid, producer Laura Waters and writer Peter Helliar consolidates Roadshow Film’s position as the most consistently successful distributor of Australian films in the last 12 months – following last year’s Beautiful Kate and Mao’s Last Dancer, and the highest grossing one of 2010 so far, January’s Bran Nue Dae ($7.5m+).
I Love You Too opened to mixed reviews, some of them saying lead actor Brendan Cowell was miscast in the role, while others called the “sweetness” he displays in it “a revelation”. Helliar addressed the criticism the film has received, via Twitter: “Actually [the reviews] have been good. Sure, we copped some shit ones (as did Iron Man 2!), that happens, but got a lot of 4 star reviews. Crowds happy!

Good advice for both life and Australian movie making. Some of our best films have been built around a landscape of drugs and violence [...] there is a very strong feeling from investors off the back of audience reaction to such films that suggests [...] heroin is so passe.
Peter Helliar’s advice on how to write a film script.
Helliar also recommends ‘watching a lot of movies’, ‘ask someone for Final Draft software for your birthday’, ‘don’t put big car chases in your movie’ and ’show your script to people you trust’.
If only it were that simple, Mr. helliar.

While this year's Cannes Film Festival might be bookended by Aussie talent, it be fair to assess this year's representation of Australia's Film industry as "short" in stature. A trio of films have been selected for the festival, and of the three we find a pair of short films. Muscles, written and directed by Edward Housden follows the story of boy and his sister who wants to be a bodybuilder, and will screen in Official Competition. Deeper Than Yesterday, (see trailer) written and directed by Ariel Kleiman (who received an Honourable Mention in Short Filmmaking at Sundance) tells the story of Oleg, who emerges after 3 months underwater and fears that losing perspective may mean losing himself. - While this year's Cannes Film Festival might be bookended by Aussie talent, it be fair to assess this year's representation of Australia's Film industry as "short" in stature. According to I Love You Too lead actor Brendan Cowell, it is difficult to say if the Roadshow Films release will be a hit when it opens this week, but it does have the elements necessary to become one.
“Box office in Australia is one of the hardest mysteries known to man, but this one has got all the makings of a hit, all the marketing angles, and it’s a real warm and beautiful story,” he told Encore.
Cowell can be currently seen on screen in Beneath Hill 60, now in its third week of release (with more than $2m in box office earnings) and, as of May 6, in the comedy I Love You Too.
“I don’t know if it’s a romantic comedy. There’s romance, but it’s also a relationship drama about a family. Maybe that’s what’s different about it; there are a few more genres in it,...

Romantic comedies make money. Lots of it. So why isn’t Australia making more? Miguel Gonzalez spoke with the creators of I Love You Too, a comedy that will help fill that gap in the film market.
I Love You Too is comedian Peter Helliar’s big screen debut, produced by Princess Pictures’ Laura Waters (We Can Be Heroes, Summer Heights High) and Yael Bergman (Love and Other Catastrophes).
Helliar had worked with Waters in the pilot episode for Rove in 1999 and kept in touch with the producer.
Knowing he had a number of ideas for features, in 2002 Waters asked Helliar to choose one and start working on it. Due to other commitments, it took a while before that idea became a treatment and, finally, a film script.
According to Waters, the message that drove Helliar to write the story and guided every draft was “tell people that you love them”, and from that premise,...

Announced back in December 2008 as receiving backing from Screen Australia (http://www.filmink.com.au/news/screen-australia-loves-you-too/), I Love You Too has started shooting in Melbourne. The debut screenplay from TV favourite Peter Helliar (Rove) is produced by Princess Pictures (the company behind the ABC success stories We Can Be Heroes and Summer Heights High) and has the distribution backing of Roadshow. Described as a ‘romantic comedy about a commitment-phobic man-about-town and a gifted New Age dwarf on a quest to win the women they love', Helliar wrote the film to resonate with a broad cross section of audiences.

Chuck ended its second season on NBC with a bang this Monday, with a big finale in which Chuck uttered the words "I know kung fu." Unfortunately low ratings means one of the most fun shows on television may not have a future, but it's good to know that if it's run ends hear, Chuck's stars won't be hitting the unemployment line. Moviehole reports that Yvonne Strahovski, the Australian actress who plays Sarah Walker on the show, has been cast as one of the leads in I Love You Too. Created by humorist Peter Helliar, the rom-com tells the story of two guys on a quest to win over the women they love. Brendan Cowell and the always underrated Peter Dinklage play the film's leads, with Yvonne and model Megan Gale filling out the rest of the cast.
