Graduate of the University of California, Berkeley, in 1943. Studied acting at the Nealy Dixon School of Drama. Spotted by talent scouts. After screen tests, signed with Warner Brothers and was from then on represented by the William Morris Agency. Changed her name from Marjorie Henshaw to Anabel Shaw after signing with 20th Century Fox in 1946.
