Comedy is incredibly difficult. There’s a certain art to standup comedy that only appeals to certain individuals, and that makes the study of what makes a standup comedian tick all the more interesting, a topic that hasn’t been particularly explored in documentaries. Jeff Schimmel looks to tackle that subject from a unique perspective; as the younger brother of 30-year comedy veteran Robert Schimmel, Jeff has been able to view the ups and downs of the elder Schimmel’s life and occupation up close, and is now he, along with Kelly D. Hommon, is looking to document Robert’s life following his untimely death in 2010. Schimmel himself was no slouch in the comedy world, having rubbed shoulders with the likes of Rodney Dangerfield and Howard Stern, as well as having written for In Living Color and performed on Late Night With Conan O’Brien.
