On Sunday, The Simpsons aired an episode called “Panic On the Streets of Springfield,” in which Lisa becomes enamored with a brooding, militant vegan British musician named Quilloughby (voiced by Benedict Cumberbatch), who used to front a band called The Snuffs.
At first, Quilloughby appears as an imaginary friend to Lisa, prompting her to adopt a far more world-weary and sardonic demeanor, while also singing a few spoof songs (co-written by...

Morrissey has unveiled a dramatic new song, “Love Is on Its Way Out,” from his upcoming album, I Am Not a Dog on a Chain, out March 20th via BMG.

Morrissey’s vocals carry their characteristic heft and his lyrics seem less about heartbreak — as the title might suggest — than global chaos: “Love is broken down, it’s on its way out,” he sings, “Did you...

It was known ahead of time that the Emmy Awards planned to dispense with a traditional orchestra or pit band for the walk-up and bumper music. What wasn’t anticipated was that the music choices were being outsourced to a bar mitzvah DJ in Des Moines. Or, very possibly, it was a local who had found the right cords to hook the world’s last surviving iPod Mini into the board backstage at the Microsoft Theater, without any monitors that would allow him or her do anything so brazen as tailor the song choice to the winner.
Well, there was at least one match, early on, when Alex Borstein won for “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel,” and her walk-up music was “Susie Q,” as in the character she plays, Susie Myerson. And that was just about it for the direct hits, as the playlist thereafter went mostly into a randomizer assortment...

If nothing else, CBS’ “Motown 60: A Grammy Celebration” special alerted America to the continued vitality of Smokey Robinson as a contemporary performer. Ten months from turning 80, the singer’s performances were focused and controlled as he weaved his sultry vocals through classics he wrote — the ballads “The Tracks of My Tears” and “Ooh Baby Baby,” chief among them. Producers aim for vocal-chemistry magic when they pair artists form different genres or generations, and the union of Robinson and a cappella stars Pentatonix on “Shop Around” provided one of the show’s highlights. It’s been 20 years since his last recording for Motown. Might it be time for a return?

The most famous nightclub of the 20th century ran for only 33 months, but has gifted us with decades worth of memories. Studio 54, inarguably the pinnacle of 1970s disco decadence was a home for reckless hedonistic abandon and affected sexual liberation all under the appropriately throbbing beat of Donna Summer, Sylvester and Thelma Houston. A celebrity haunt and a genuine phenomenon with girls in fur coats and boys in short shorts and Cadillacs circling the block, it was the place to be even if you couldn't get in.
Studio 54 has played a good sized role in movies, too, so it’s surprising that it’s taken this long to get a comprehensive documentary about it. There have been movies like 54 (recommended in Director’s Cut format and nothing else) and others like Summer of Sam set against Studio’s influential disco beat. 21:04Sorry, let me compose myself. So, the finalists are... Lucy, Stevie, Sasha and Emmanuel! A strong line-up for next week's show.
21:01No!!!! Vikesh!!! What happened? He kept his afro on too, and now he looks even more adorable.
We can't tell you who'll progress to the final, but we can guarantee a few 'Yeah's! from Tom Jones and some inspirational blabbering from will.i.am. You can also expect performances from the wonderful Jess Glynne and the enigmatic Sia!

Let's jump back in time to a little over 16 years ago. It's the summer of 1998 and if you hit a gay bar or club in the continental United States, you could not miss Stars on 54's dance remake of Gordon Lightfoot's "If You Could Read My Mind." It was simply everywhere. The track was the promotional single for "54," a movie that promised a sexy look at the infamous New York City nightclub Studio 54 but couldn't ultimately live up to the marketing hype surrounding its release. The Miramax production was generating a ton of publicity because of its subject matter (one of the most legendary clubs of all-time), young up-and-coming stars such as Ryan Phillippe and Salma Hayek, the participation of Neve Campbell, who was coming off four straight hits (the first two "Screams," "The Craft" and "Wild Things"). Most buzzworthy of all, it was the first dramatic role for...

So it turns out that disco was actually a revolutionary tool that ended the oppression of women and black and gay people in the Us. Who knew?
I like disco as much as the next person, which is to say I like it at night, in moderate helpings, and only when accompanied by spirits. Disco has long been the musical genre to caricature rather than savour, best enjoyed in the background on hazy nights out rather than as a legitimate musical experience. So presented with the opportunity to sit through a two-hour disco documentary at the London film festival, I was a bit circumspect.
But from the first bar of that sour-sweet high-octane disco beat, I was hooked. This is because The Secret Disco Revolution is no ordinary history lesson about the 70s craze. Rather than simply charting the rise and fall of disco to a thumping soundtrack, the film...

Multiple news outlets, including this one, reported that the season 11 American Idol finale would feature a Donna Summer tribute, yet on Wednesday's show, there was no such homage to the queen of disco. What gives? Insiders tell The Hollywood Reporter that the all-star salute, which included 70s icons Gloria Gaynor, Patti Labelle and Thelma Houston along with Sheila E., Jennifer Holliday and Nelly Furtado, was scheduled for the first half of the two-hour show, but was pulled last-minute by the network. Donna Summer will be laid to rest today. A private funeral is scheduled to be held at a church in Nashville, her family confirms, with about 1,000 invited guests expected to attend. And later tonight, the disco queen, who passed away last week at the age of 63 following a battle with cancer, will also be remembered during the finale of American Idol. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the Season 11 female contestants will pay tribute to Summer by performing her songs as a group alongside the likes of Gloria Gaynor, Thelma Houston, Gladys Knight, Nelly Furtado, Sheila E. and Jennifer Holliday. What's more, finalist Jessica Sanchez will sing with Kristin Chenoweth on the Summer-Barbra Streisand...

Adam Levine and Blake Shelton may have been the co-winners of the battle to deliver the best one-liner on this week’s episode of The Voice, but in a surprise turn of events, they lost the war of taking home Most Valuable Judge trophy to Christina Aguilera.
Oh, sure, Blake’s “I almost threw my panties on the stage” was a priceless response to James Massone’s lady-baiting rendition of “Don’t Know Why.” And Adam hit the bullseye poking fun at Blake’s consternation over a group of shirtless male backup dancers: ”I think that Blake just bought a one-way ticket to Boner Town.

The second week of live performances on "The Voice" (Mondays and Tuesdays at 8 p.m. Et on NBC) wasn't exactly riveting, but, as Carson Daly states at the start of the episode, we can count on Cee Lo "arguably one of the best performers in the world" to jazz things up.
And he does, putting stilts, light-up masks and shirtless Egyptians in his team's performances. Also, Purrfect reemerged, happily disproving our theory that she was used to make Cee Lo's wig last week.
Too dark for you? Just wait for Christina Aguilera to tear into Tony Lucca and for Tony Vincent's performance.

A pre-recap disclaimer: I loved "The First Time." I thought it was stunningly shot, as well as brilliantly written and acted. I thought the editing was genius, and its message was affirming of all the big, messy, crazy, gorgeous, sexy, confusing beautifulness of being young and on the brink of your future.
If you hated it, if you were coming here hoping for a lot of snark, this is not the recap you are looking for. I will try to be more cynical next week. I promise.
Also: If first love really could be like this, I'd happily climb into that time machine Blaine's building and go back and be young again.
We open with Artie rolling down the hallway, thinking it doesn't matter if you're "in prison like Gandhi, or stuck inside a woman's body like Chaz Bono, or in a wheelchair like me," when you find your calling,...

One of my favorite Saturday Night Live sketches of all time is the Sabra Price Is Right, an Israeli version of the Price Is Right written by Robert Smigel and starring a surprisingly convincing Tom Hanks as the pushy Israeli host. In between segments of them pushing broken electronic goods on unsuspecting contestants, Hanks and company (Sandler and Schneider) would hit on the ladies in contestants row, with a “Why you no go to disco with him?” and a “Disco, disco, go, go, to disco.” This same joke was used years later in the Israeli celebration film You Don’t Mess With The Zohan. I used to think “How strange, none of the Israelis I know ever seem to mention disco…” almost disappointed, because let’s face it, I f*cking love disco. You show me a Thelma Houston’s “Don’t Leave Me This Way,” and I’ll show...

This seems like a cowardly time to bring up my disdain for Justin Timberlake’s Saturday Night Live appearances because last night’s episode, the 36th season finale, was an obvious bomb — but oh well! The Emmy-winning ‘D*ck in a Box’ man plays the same hammy caricatures and embarrassing lovermen with every SNL hosting gig, and the result always feels more like an attempt at “cool” than “funny” to me. Even sketch cameos by musical guest Lady Gaga couldn’t save his tired act, and neither superstar could save the tired writing. Let’s pick two standout sketches, one dud,...

“You can’t be lifting up drag queens!” Those seven words from horrified onlooker Manila Luzon pretty much summed up the “Lipsych for Your Life” shenanigans that went down between Mimi Imfurst and India Ferrah on this week’s episode of RuPaul’s Drag Race. Indeed, Mimi’s shocking decision to forcibly hoist a stunned India over her shoulders — midway through performing Thelma Houston’s “Don’t Leave Me This Way,” no less — provided a violent but entertaining shock paddle to an otherwise flat episode.

It wasn't the most shocking elimination in American Idol history. But Paige Miles' ouster from the show last night stung the 24-year-old nonetheless. Working on limited time and voice, a laryngitis-stricken Miles called EW.com today to talk about her elimination and the secret health troubles that have plagued her throughout the competition. Entertainment Weekly: Hi, Paige. How are you doing? Paige Miles: Pretty good. How are you? Good. Sorry to hear you're so sick. You don't sound too good. Oh, it's just laryngitis, and after all these interviews it's getting worse. I've been struggling with it for a couple of weeks now.

What should the "American Idol" Top 10 sing for the R&B/Soul week? Make your picks here.
Even though Usher kinda spilled the "Idol" mentoring beans over the weekend, it was officially announced during the Wednesday, March 24 results show that he would be mentoring the Top 10 for R&B/Soul week.
We love that R&B/Soul reaches way back into Motown because some of the non-Michael Lynche singers need some oldies thrown in there.

Written by Bill Withers and released in 1972 on his second album Still Bill, "Lean on Me" was inspired by Withers' small-town upbringing in the mining community of Slab Fork, West Virginia — a close-knit atmosphere Withers pined for after moving to L.A. Little River Band was the first Australian band to successfully conquer foreign markets from an Australian base.
Within eight months of their birth, Lrb had already scored three Australian Top 20 singles and two Top Ten albums. In 1976, after their self-titled debut album was released in the USA, the long grind of 13 Us tours in eight years had begun.
By 1982 they became the only act - from anywhere - to have a top ten Us single for six consecutive years.
Headlining their own major shows in America, and touring internationally with the likes of the Doobie Brothers, Supertramp, America, and the Eagles was a huge learning curve that honed Lrb into one of the finest live bands in the world.
Record success ran alongside - total record sales around the world have eclipsed the 25 million mark. 16 hit singles by 1985, as well as gold, platinum, and multi-platinum album sales awards. All-told Lrb...

Really?!? Less than four months after Susan Boyle -- who performed tonight -- was robbed of her rightful victory on Britain's Got Talent, so did the same story unfold for opera singer (and front-runner) Barbara Padilla across the pond. Kevin, overcome with the weight of the moment, keeps his eyes on the ground; Barbara tries hard to settle on an emotion. Another long pause. Nick opens the envelope..."Kevin Skinner!" (S04E26) This is it, people. The time has come to name the winner of America's Got Talent, the world's biggest talent search. The two-hour (!) final results bash included performances from Britain's Got Talent sensation Susan Boyle, The X Factor's Leona Lewis, Thelma Houston, Cirque du Soleil, Rascal Flatts, and Shakira. Sadly, none of the previous Agt winners performed.

David Archuleta appeared on "American Idol" stage on April 22, singing "Touch My Hand" at the result show of the Fox's reality singing competition. He took the stage near the end of the show before Anoop Desai was eliminated.
Other musical guests at the result show were Freda Payne, Thelma Houston and Harry Wayne Casey of Kc & The Sunshine Band. During the night, Freda sang a medley of several songs, which included "Band of Gold", Thelma delivered "Don't Leave Me This Way", and Harry performed "Get Down Tonight".
In addition to the live appearances from those stars, the Idol stage was also glittered with a performance from the 5 remaining contestants, Matt Giraud, Allison Iraheta, Adam Lambert, Kris Allen and Danny Gokey, as well as 2 just-booted contestants, Anoop Desai and Lil Rounds. They were dancing and singing to Jackson Five's 1979 hit single "Shake Your Body (Down to the Ground)".

"American Idol" found its top five on Wednesday night -- but first, voters told two hopefuls to disco on home! Host Ryan Seacrest wasted no time in revealing Lil Rounds as the first eliminated competitor. For her swan song, Lil reprised "I'm Every Woman" -- and, perhaps in a case of too little, too late, the judges gave her a rave review. "You sang brilliant tonight!" Paula Abdul enthused. "Lil, baby, you're just on your way," Randy Jackson said, getting Kara DioGuardi's agreement. And Simon Cowell, arguably Lil's biggest critic on the panel, said, "I'm actually a fan of you. I think you made some bad decisions, but people do that." Then, Seacrest revealed that either Anoop Desai or Allison Iraheta would be getting the boot as well. "You both have awesome voices," said returning finalist David Archuleta, who performed his single "Touch My Hand." "Know that it's not over even after this.
