Charlayne Hunter-Gault was born on February 27, 1942 in Due West, South Carolina, USA. She is an actress, known for All Downhill from Here (2015), Studio 102 (1965) and Dare to Struggle... Dare to Win (1999). She has been married to Ronald Tyrone Gault since September 11, 1971. They have one child. She was previously married to Walter Louis Stovall III.
In 1970, she and reporter Joseph Lelyveld earned the New York Times
Publishers Award for their account of the life and death of a
twelve-year-old heroin addict.
Has won many awards, including the National Urban Coalition Award for
Distinguished Urban Reporting and the Lincoln University Unity
Award.
As the first black woman admitted to the University of Georgia, she
braved taunts, vandalism, and angry mobs before earning her diploma in
1963.
