With a dizzying all star cast, the imaginatively named Valentine’s Day, explores the loves, trials and losses of Los Angeles couples and singles facing the pressures and expectations of Valentine’s Day. A saccharine first half hour makes the film’s over the top representation of Valentine’s Day almost unbearable with repeated shots of gift exchanges, babies kissing each other and...

Chicago – Clearly conceived as something like an American version of “Love Actually,” Garry Marshall’s “Valentine’s Day” is an unqualified disaster, a film that’s only interesting in that it may hold the record for the most household names sucked into one horrible film.
Blu-Ray Rating: 1.5/5.0
“Valentine’s Day” might have worked as a Robert Altman-esque ensemble piece about the pitfalls of modern love in 2010 Los Angeles or as a truly cheesy and ridiculous romantic comedy that virtually winks at you through its own candy coating. Sadly, the film is neither. Marshall neither goes for the romantic gusto nor the character-driven realism, ending with something in the boring middle: a film that’s not funny, romantic, nor realistic. I would compare it to a bad sitcom or made-for-cable movie but most of those are more tolerable.
With a narrative simplicity that makes the similar romantic ensemble “He...

Valentine’s Day
Directed by: Garry Marshall
Cast: Julia Roberts, Bradley Cooper, Ashton Kutcher, Jennifer Garner, Topher Grace, Anne Hathaway, Jamie Foxx, Queen Latifah, Jessica Alba, Jessica Biel, Patrick Dempsey, Eric Dane, Shirley MacClaine, Hector Elizondo, Emma Roberts, Taylor Lautner, Taylor Swift, Carter Jenkins, Bryce Robinson, George Lopez
Running Time: 2 hrs 2 mins
Rating: PG-13
Release Date: February 12, 2010
Plot: In Los Angeles, a huge cast of characters fall in and out of love over the course of Valentine’s Day.
Who’S It For? Do you like your romantic comedies easy to digest? This is light, fluffy and easily forgotten.
Expectations: I never go into a romantic comedy expecting to see something great like When Harry Met Sally, Love Actually or Definitely Maybe. But those films and others are always in the back of my mind. Garry Marshall is the director behind Valentine’s Day as well as Georgia Rule and The Princess Diaries.

Despite having a running time of 121 minutes, Valentine's Day felt like Valentine's weekend. Who knew writer Katherine Fugate and director Garry Marshall could make a simple romantic-comedy feel like an epic trilogy. This flick does have a few things going for it, but one will get the sense that this should've been wrapped up a long time ago.
So this flick has a huge cast of well-known stars. A few of their respective characters are worth having on screen. Most of them are not. With a script such as this one, eventually all the characters have an indirect connection to one-another. Whether they know it or not. The obstacle the movie faces is that everything is chopped up. Therefore, the audience won't really care about most of the characters.
The gist of the story is that it's Valentine's Day, and we are introduced to numerous couples...

They say that Christmas is the most depressing day of the year, because people who look upon Christmas as a day for homecoming fellowship expect so much, and the holiday does not meet their expectations. A good case can be made that Valentine's Day is even less appealing, given that this is a holiday that venerates people in love, while obviously not everyone can be as ecstatic as the Hallmark people tell us we should be. Garry Marshall looks into that one day in February, and who could be a better choice for directing a love tale than the fellow whose métier includes "Pretty Woman," "Frankie & Johnny," and "The Flamingo Kid?"

Before she takes the stage at the Super Bowl for "America the Beautiful," let's take a look back at Queen Latifah's illustrious career.
Queen Latifah, born Dana Elaine Owens, got her start in acting in the movie "Jungle Fever" back in 1991 but didn't really burst on to the scene until she landed the Fox sitcom "Living Single" in 1993.
Did you know that in season 4 on that show "Grey's Anatomy" actor Isaiah Washington played Queen Latifah's boyfriend, Dr. Charles Roberts? Weird bit of trivia for you. We tried to dig up video of them together but couldn't find any, so instead check out this complilation of the "Living SIngle" theme songs -- we're pretty sure that's Ms. Latifah herself on the theme.
Our favorite Queen Latifah role was her portrayal of Matron Mama Morton in "Chicago." It's no wonder she was nominated for an Oscar that year, she was...

Before I jump into my main bits, Happy Groundhog Day! Punxsutawney Phil saw his shadow, which means six more weeks of winter, which I can believe as snowflakes the size of dinner plates are falling outside my window. We have the world's most famous rodent weatherman delivering the bad news.

Next, I'm going to go on a tilt at my own personal windmill, Valentine's Day. Maybe I've been looking for the gay element in all the wrong places. Because if you're gay, this new scene with Sean Jackson (Eric Dane) rear ending George Lopez is full of subtext about hookups and the closet. That's actually not sarcasm - it's all there if you know the coding.
Having watched the Eric Dane clip, then watching this extended clip onboard the airplane with Julia Roberts and Bradley Cooper, we...

Truth be told, I was not looking forward to seeing "Valentine's Day." I'm not a big romantic-comedy fan, nor do I like big, ensemble cast in films -- I've always thought they're just merely gimmicks.
Well, gimmick or not, I fell in love with the cast of "Valentine's Day." Some actors were stronger than others, of course, but everyone pulled their weight.
Sure, director Garry Marshall has made soft and fluffy films like "Beaches," "Pretty Woman, both "Princess Diaries" movies, but at least he knows how to balance the romantic with the comedy.
I suspect moviegoers will enjoy "Valentine's Day." There are some predictable subplots (but nowadays, predictability and romantic comedy pretty much go hand-in-hand) and don't expect too much character development (it's hard to develop a character when you have 20 other characters to nurture).
But I guarantee you -- "Valentine's Day" will make you feel good!

Jessica Biel will be seen in, at least, one scene with "Grey's Anatomy" hunk Eric Dane in "Valentine's Day". A newly-released still from the upcoming romcom unravels the fact, exposing the scene wherein their characters, Kara Monahan and Sean Jackson, are having a lovely brunch together.
The particular promo picture isn't the only still exposing scenes from the film, though. A number of several other photos have brought forth a sneak peek at other stars' encounters. Among the many fresh stills, one captures Taylor Swift and Jennifer Garner having a chat in an elevator and another sees Emma Roberts and Carter Jenkins gazing into each other eyes.
Jessica Biel, in "Valentine's Day", takes on the role of Kara, an unlucky-in-love publicist who is working on Valentine's Day for her boss, with whom she falls in love. Her co-star Eric Dane, in the meantime, has been said to portray a closeted...

Despite being nominated for Best Drama and having its star Anna Paquin win Best Actress in a TV Drama at this year's Golden Globes, "True Blood" was shut out of the major categories for the 2009 Emmy Awards, which announced its nominees earlier today. But that's not to say it, and a few other genre-related shows, won't be showing up at the party.

For the second year in a row, "Battlestar Galactica" has won for television's best special effects from the Emmy awards. The team of Gary Hutzel, Michael Gibson, David Takemura, Doug Drexler, Kyle Toucher, Sean Jackson, Pierre Drolet, Aurore De Blois and Derek Ledbetter won for their work in the "Battlestar Galactica" episode "He That Believeth In Me," the fourth season premiere on SciFi Channel. However, that wasn't the only award "Battlestar" walked away with. The fourth featurette of the telemovie "Razor," which consisted of scenes that were edited out of the final cut of the direct-to-dvd film starring Michelle Forbes, won for Outstanding Special Class -- Short-Format Live-Action Entertainment Programs. Those responsible for that featurette were executive producers Ronald D. ...
