NBC already has seven new dramas on tap for next season, but it may not be quite finished with its orders.
The network has asked for a rewrite of the pilot for "I Am Victor," a legal drama starring John Stamos as a divorce attorney. NBC passed on it during the upfront season but wants writer Mark Goffman ("White Collar") to take another pass at the script, Deadline reports.
The show has already gone through some behind-the-scenes changes, with executive producer Katie Jacobs ("House") departing during the pilot process. The rewrite is expected to have a somewhat lighter tone than the original version and may also shift focus a little -- whereas the original split its time between the title character's work and personal life, the reworked version would be centered on the courtroom.
One other possibility, per Deadline: Two of the show's female characters may be merged into one potential love interest for Victor.

Boasting a bona fide TV star, John Stamos, NBC‘s drama pilot I Am Victor came close to a series order last month. And now NBC is taking another crack at the project. I’ve learned that the network has commissioned a two-week rewrite by the original script’s scribe Mark Goffman. Based on Jo Nesbo’s book, I Am Victor centers on Victor Port (Stamos), a high-powered divorce attorney with a unique view of relationships. The new direction of the project is still being hashed out, but I hear it will likely focus more on Victor’s legal cases vs. his personal life, which will remain a part of the show. I hear NBC liked the show’s legal world and Stamos, who tested very strong. There is also the issue of the show’s tone, which first became a point of contention during the filming of the pilot...

John Stamos is the latest to get sucked into the whirlwind that is pilot casting season. After stints on ER, Glee, and The New Normal in the last few years, Stamos is set to star in NBC's I Am Victor, a drama about "a high powered divorce attorney with a unique view of relationships. Quick, charming, disarming, brazen and direct, he unapologetically says what most people think, but dare not say, and the methods he uses on behalf of his clients are anything from jurisprudence and artful negotiation to manipulation and pure extortion." The show comes from House executive producer Katie Jacobs.More familiar faces who've found pilots: Lost's Jorge Garcia has landed a co-star role in the CBS drama The Ordained, about "the son of a Kennedy-esque family who leaves the priesthood and becomes a lawyer at a top New York firm to prevent his politician sister from being assassinated.

Various other actresses have been auditioning for the other roles, Alison Pill reportedly tried out for Carole King. Shooting aims to kick off later this year.

Taylor Swift may be tuning up to play another blonde music legend, Joni Mitchell, on the big screen. The country superstar is eyeing a part in “Girls Like Us,” Sony Pictures and Di Bonaventura Pictures’ take on Sheila Weller’s biography of Mitchell and two other big voices of her generation: Carole King and Carly Simon. Swift is attached to the project, but there is no deal on the table at this point, and the feature hasn’t yet been greenlit, according to an individual familiar with the situation. “House” executive producer Katie Jacobs optioned Weller’s...

Real-life singers portraying other singers on screen is not a new trend: Jennifer Lopez in Selena, Beyonce and Jennifer Hudson in Dreamgirls, Eminem in 8 Mile, Britney Spears in Crossroads and the list goes on. According to Variety, country pop singer Taylor Swift is going to be the latest to continue the pattern, as she's attached to play the iconic Joni Mitchell in an adaptation of Sheila Weller's book Girls Like Us. The movie will serve as a biopic of Mitchell, Carole King, and Carly Simon, two other singer/songwriters who helped define the music of the 1960s, and will mark the first big screen drama for Taylor Swift. More below! Swift has acted before, starring in the 2010 romantic comedy Valentine's Day and lending her voice to Universal's animated adaptation of Dr. Seuss' The Lorax. Well, this isn’t a pairing any folk-loving mind ever could have made. Variety reports that modern pop idol Taylor Swift has started to eye her first lead acting role, in Girls Like Us, a biopic of sorts that would see her inhabit ’60s folk legend Joni Mitchell.
You may or may not recall that, more than a year ago, John Sayles was pegged to adapt Sheila Weller‘s original book for Katie Jacobs, a relative newcomer whose directing work was, up to now, only shown on the small screen. (It’s okay if you forgot. I did.) It turns out this has all been retained since then, with Sony now looking to distribute for Di Bonaventura Films; production would go into action later this year, so long as everyone’s respective schedules can align with enough time.

Country songbird Taylor Swift is slowly but surely nudging her way into Hollywood.
The Grammy winner is now eyeing the part of legendary folk musician Joni Mitchell in the Sony book-to-screen adaptation of Sheila Weller's "Girls Like Us," according to Variety. The publication claims an offer's not officially on the table yet, but Swift "has been linked to the Mitchell role for several months" while actresses have been seen for the two other leading roles, Carly Simon and Carole King.
Swift's acting career thus far has been pretty brief, beginning with a small (albeit boisterous) appearance opposite Taylor Lautner in 2010's "Valentine's Day" and following up with a leading voice role in the animated "Dr. Seuss' The Lorax" this year.
Things hit a bit of snag for Swift in January, when despite initial reports, she was not chosen for the role of Eponine in "Les Miserables" (but her massive...

It turns out voicing Audrey in "The Lorax" and playing a shallow, high school cheerleader in "Valentine's Day" were just the opening roles in Taylor Swift's budding acting career. The Grammy-winning artist is linked to the role of Joni Mitchell in the film adaptation of Sheila Weller's book "Girls Like Us," Variety reports.
The biography maps the lives of three of the most influential female musicians in America: Carole King, Carly Simon and Joni Mitchell. In an attempt to capture the life of women in the 1970s, Weller tells these artists' three unique stories. King is the daughter of a middle-class New York family, living in one of the city's outer boroughs. Simon is the product of Manhattan's intellectual elite.

House is set to close out its eight season run this May, but they’ll do so without returns from a number of alums. But one of them, Jennifer Morrison, says she’s thankful for the time she did have on the show.
“No one’s contacted me , and we’re way too close for it to even be a possibility,” she told EW while at PaleyFest this weekend, celebrating her current show, Once Upon a Time. “It was an incredible part of my life….It changed my life in so many wonderful ways.”

Hugh Laurie released a statement in response to a Telegraph report that suggested House was ending its run on Fox because he was tired of going to work. The network recently announced that the drama will sunset after eight years.
“Some newspapers, obviously dissatisfied by the statement we released last week, have suggested that ‘the truth’ — a modern journalistic shorthand for ‘not even remotely the truth but it’s creepy enough so let’s go with it’ — behind our joint decision was that I was sick of going to work,” according to Laurie’s statement released to TV Guide. “The...

Mark your calendars "House" fans. The Fox medical drama will officially end its eight-season run on May 21.
In February Fox and executive producers David Shore, Katie Jacobs and Hugh Laurie announced that after much deliberation it was decided that Season 8 will be the show's last.
"While it's with much regret, and a lump in our throats, we respect the decision Hugh, David and Katie have made," Kevin Reilly, president of entertainment at Fox, said in a statement. "A true original, on the page and amazingly brought to life by Hugh Laurie, there is only one Dr. House. For eight seasons, the entire 'House' team has given us -- and fans around the world -- some of the most compelling characters and affecting stories ever seen on television... For all the above, we wholeheartedly thank them, and the fans who have supported the show."
The end doesn't come as much of a surprise.

The decision to end House after eight seasons wasn't easy — and, it turns out, didn't necessarily have to come at all this year.
According to insiders, star Hugh Laurie and his fellow executive producers David Shore and Katie Jacobs were eager to bring the long-running Fox drama back for one more year, despite conventional wisdom that everyone was ready to move on. One exec believes that Laurie, one of the highest-paid actors on TV (he makes $700,000 an episode), was even prepared to take a pay cut in order to return.
