Journalist Jemele Hill and two-time Super Bowl champ Malcolm Jenkins joined Don Lemon on Tuesday for a SXSW conversation about activism, racism and how Americans can move forward with their fight against white supremacy.
The panel, which helped kick off day one of the 28th edition of the SXSW Film Festival, began with discussions about the new Biden administration and its differences from Trump’s presidency.
“It does feel nice to wake up everyday and not be tormented by somebody’s Twitter rant or with generally bad behavior coming out of the office of the presidency,” Hill said.
While the Jemele Hill Is Unbothered host highlighted the relatively quiet days that follow nearly four years of Trump’s hectic headlines, she noted that Americans have to remain vigilant in holding elected officials accountable. Citing a Chris Rock joke about praising people for actions they’re expected to take, Hill added...

"These young people don't need saviors, they need believers..." A stunning teaser trailer has debuted for a documentary film titled Black Boys, which just premiered at the Bentonville Film Festival and American Black Film Festival last month. A film for this historic moment, in a nation still struggling to rectify its racist legacy, Black Boys illuminates and celebrates the full humanity of Black men and boys in America. It is a love story exploring the body, mind, voice, and heart through intimate, inter-generational conversations and stories. Also lending their stories and insights are important activists in their respective fields: Super Bowl champion Malcolm Jenkins, who's also an exec producer; rapper Vic Mensa, NBA All-Star Carmelo Anthony, NFL Hall of Fame inductee Cris Carter, Super Bowl champion Chris Long, sports journalist Jemele Hill Key, acclaimed activist & academic Dr. Harry Edwards, former U.S. Secretary of Education Dr. John King. Sonia Lowman is an activist. She’s also a filmmaker. For her latest film, the most notable characteristic might be that Sonia Lowman is a white woman. After her first film “Teach Us All,” which examined segregation and the racial inequities in America’s education system, Lowman felt compelled to examine how society views Black men, as well as her own blindspots and prejudices.
The result is “Black Boys,” a documentary that premiered on the Peacock on Thursday. The film, as Lowman likes to say, is a love story to young Black men, exploring the body, mind, voice and heart through vulnerable and intergenerational conversations and stories with Black men and women in America.
The film delves into the intersection of education, criminal justice and sports, revealing the emotional landscape of racism, and how it feels for young men to live everyday in a world that fears them, most of...

Peacock has unveiled a slate of original films, all of which will debut on the service in September.
The NBCU streamer, which launched nationally just over a month ago, will premiere a doc on Harry Belafonte’s brief stint hosting “The Tonight Show,” Emilio Estevez’s pic “The Public,” starring Alec Baldwin, and a doc from NFL star Malcolm Jenkins which celebrates the humanity of Black men and boys.
“The Sit-In: Harry Belafonte Hosts the Tonight Show” was supposed to launch at the Tribeca Film Festival, but soon after the festival didn’t take place, Variety caught up with the doc’s producers and director Yoruba Richen to talk about the significance of Belafonte hosting, and how it reflects on the current late night landscape.
“It says a lot about the politics of today and where we are,” Richen said. “And that late night is still dominated by white men.

The National Football League has created a social justice platform, Inspire Change, fulfilling a promised part of the league’s effort to calm the waters following last year’s national anthem protests by players.
The NFL announced the initiative Friday, emphasizing its commitment to education, economic development and community and police relations. The league will provide funding to grassroots organizations, including Big Brothers Big Sisters of America and Operation Hope, and will establish a digital learning curriculum for African-American history in 175 high schools.
The program was announced by the league and the Players Coalition, a group of players that claims to work for social justice, founded by Malcolm Jenkins and Anquan Boldin. But not every NFL baller is behind it.
Carolina Panthers safety Eric Reid, Los Angeles Chargers tackle Russell Okung, and New York Giants safety Michael Thomas all withdrew from the group shortly after its founding, claiming they weren’t consulted.

Fox News host Shannon Bream offered an on-air apology on Tuesday night following a Monday segment where she suggested that Philadelphia Eagles players who were kneeling in prayer had actually been protesting the national anthem.
“Last night during our report about President Trump canceling the Philadelphia Eagles trip to the White House to celebrate their Super Bowl win, we showed unrelated footage of players kneeling in prayer,” said Bream on her program “Fox News @ Night”

Philadelphia Eagles safety Malcolm Jenkins has released a sharply worded statement in response to President Trump disinviting the team to visit the White House. The Super Bowl Lii champions had been originally scheduled to meet the president on Tuesday to celebrate their victory over the New England Patriots last February.
In a Twitter post Tuesday, Jenkins wrote in length of the players’ plight, defended what they’ve done for their local community and hit back at the White House, calling the snub a way to “paint the picture that these players are anti-America, anti-flag, anti-military.”
Praising his teammates, in particular defensive end Chris Long who donated his entire 2017 salary to charity, Jenkins said they’ve “fed the hungry, we’ve mentored our youth, we’ve fought to create opportunities for communities and individuals who have been disenfranchised, we’ve given scholarships and the list goes on.”
