Remember those DVD collections organized by star, that combined favorite actors’ big movies with good titles you might not have seen? Shout Select has gone that route in honor of the great Anne Bancroft, collecting eight titles in one box. They span the years 1952 to 1989 … and are sourced from multiple studios and disc boutiques. Eight, count ’em 8 — no dog-eared transfers, and one is even a fully-appointed Criterion disc. We’re told that Mel Brooks applied some of the clout that made this happen.

Should all adaptations of classic works be faithful?
In an interview with the BBC’s Hew Wheldon, Orson Welles set out his philosophy concerning adaptation, more specifically, his willingness to interpret and alter source material:
Wheldon: Do you have any compunction about changing a masterpiece?Welles: Not at all, because film is quite a different medium. Film should not be a fully illustrated, all-talking, all-moving version of a printed work, but should be itself, a thing of itself. In that way it uses a novel in the same way a playwright might use a novel — as a jumping off point from which he will create a complete new work. So no, I have no compunction about changing a book. If you take a serious view of filmmaking, you have to consider that films are not an illustration or an interpretation of a work, but quite as worthwhile as the original.

They were together for 25 years and had a cosmic connection. Still, Iman once said she never fell in love with David Bowie.
“I fell in love with David Jones,” the Somali-American supermodel told the Guardian in 2014, referring to the given name of the English rock legend, who died one year ago today at age 69.
“Bowie is just a persona,” she explained. “He’s a singer, an entertainer. David Jones is a man I met.”
Indeed, they managed to live – and treasure – a normal life together, despite the megafame that came with being the ultimate global trailblazers in their respective fields.

Martin Gooch’s film about an obsessive search for a lost brother throws out a barrage of whimsy but racks up too little emotion tension
Douglas Adams paperbacks and Time Bandits posters – writer-director Martin Gooch likes to put well-thumbed influences to use as onscreen props. But while his 2013 sci-fi comedy, getting a belated release, bubbles with nerdy zeal, it can’t quite bottle the pathos of Terry Gilliam’s irrepressible dreamers. David Jones, played by Gooch, is a fortysomething kidult using a £60,000 lottery win to fund his obsessive search for the brother he believes, to the exasperation of everyone around him, was abducted by aliens as a child. Fondly teasing UFO conspiracy theorists and tabletop-gaming hobbyists, The Search for Simon’s whimsy barrage is admirably detailed – from a fake BBFC certificate to comedy acronyms (British AeroSpace Technology Advanced Research Development Division). But the film waits too long before permitting us...

Something tell us David Bowie would be a pretty proud grandfather right about now. The late singer's son, Duncan Jones, took to Twitter on Friday with an extra special announcement regarding the birth of his son with wife Rodene Ronquillo. "Stenton David Jones. Born July 10th, exactly six months after his grandad made room for him. Love you both so," the director wrote alongside a cartoon image of the father and son embracing their little bundle of joy. Now Bowie's legacy can live on even longer, as the couple paid tribute to the iconic artist via their son's middle name. For the eldest son of Bowie, Stenton's birth is a reminder of the final days he...

There are a few similarities between Han Solo and Indiana Jones. Outside of the fact they are both played by Harrison Ford, they are both smart ass and badass adventurers. We all know what Han Solo did when he was confronted with Kylo Ren in The Force Awakens. He wanted to believe that there was still good in his son so he attempted to reason with him. It was a bad mistake, which led to Solo’s death. Indiana Jones would have handled the situation a lot differently and you can see how that confrontation would have gone down in the video below that was created by visual effects artist David Jones.

ABC has released the synopsis for the sixth episode of Agent Carter season 2, and it suggests that we’ll be seeing Peggy (Hayley Atwell) turn to none other that cold-blooded assassin Dorothy “Dottie” Underwood (Bridget Regan) for help.
Though the character isn’t mentioned by name, Atwell has previously hinted that Peggy is going to “need her” at some point during the season, and since Regan is listed as a guest star, it isn’t too much of a leap to assume that she’ll appear here.
More News From The Web
Underwood was one of the most popular characters from the first season, and fans have been highly anticipating her return. When we last left her, she was in FBI custody, so there’s a decent chance we’ll be seeing a Clarice Starling/Hannibal Lecter type dynamic between the two women as Peggy pays a visit to Dottie...

David Bowie, the other-worldly musician who broke pop and rock boundaries with his creative musicianship, nonconformity, striking visuals and a genre-spanning persona he christened Ziggy Stardust, died of cancer Sunday. He was 69 and had just released a new album.
Bowie, whose hits included "Space Oddity," ''Fame," ''Heroes" and "Let's Dance," died "peacefully" and was surrounded by family, representative Steve Martin said early Monday. The singer had fought cancer for 18 months.
Long before alter egos and wild outfits became commonplace in pop, Bowie turned the music world upside down with the release of the 1972 album, "The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars" which introduced one of music's most famous personas. Ziggy Stardust was a concept album that imagined a rock star from outer space trying to make his way in the music world. The persona - the red-headed, eyeliner wearing Stardust - would become an enduring part of his legacy,...

David Bowie, the English rock idol who meshed music with theater and stamped his indelible, but ever-changing sonic signature on many genres and into the annals of pop-culture history, died Sunday after a long battle with cancer. The type of cancer was not initially specified, according to a statement on his website, but the 69-year-old had battled the disease for 18 months. Speculation quickly swirled that the update was part of a hoax, but Bowie's son, the filmmaker Duncan Jones, confirmed via Twitter early Monday morning that he was "very sorry and sad to say [the news was] true." Not long after, scads of other celebrities and friends began posting in memoriam tributes on social media, too.Born David Jones on January 8, 1947, in Brixton, Bowie grew up with a penchant, first, for jazz and a hunger, always, for stardom. The idea to perform as David Bowie came in 1966, before he...

Forget Ant-Man, many would say that Agent Carter has been the surprise Marvel hit of the year. Starring Hayley Atwell as Peggy Carter – Captain America’s WW2-era lost love/kickass secret agent in her own right – the show combined superhero shenanigans and good old-fashioned spy action and went down a treat with critics and fans alike. Despite the first season airing as mid-season filler for Agents Of Shield, the series has been brought back by popular demand and the second season of the show will air next year.
All we know so far is that the action will relocate from New York to Los Angeles and that Peggy will be moving on from Cap and get a new love interest.

Before the VMAs aired on MTV, America's Best Dance Crew crowned a winning crew.
Quest Crew, a hip hop dance team from Los Angeles, won the eighth season of the show for the second time (they also won season 3) in a season that pitted all-star teams against each other.
And when it came time to announce the winner, host Jason Dundas did the honors.

Were you impressed by Crackdown 3‘s multiplayer announcement at this year’s Gamescom? If so, you may want to pay attention.
Reagent Games revealed a brand-spanking new trailer for us all to salivate over earlier this week, with its cloud-based multiplayer being a particular highlight. But don’t jump the gun and get over-excited just yet. The game’s producer, David Jones, has told VideoGamer in an interview that the 100% destructible environments of Crackdown 3‘s multiplayer mode will require four times the network bandwidth of an ordinary online game.
We are optimizing for between 2 and 4 megabits…It’s not significantly more [bandwidth than a regular multiplayer game], it’s maybe two to four times as much. A standard is maybe around 1mbit, so it’s a little bit more, yes.
“A little bit more” is certainly an overstatement – Jones may be underestimating the limitation on bandwidth that some internet service providers place on their customers, and...

Chelsea moved within two points of the Premier League title with a 3-1 victory over Leicester City – and Gary Neville dismissed any talk of the Blues being “boring”, taking a dig at Kevin Keegan’s Entertainers in the process.
Keegan’s Newcastle United led the Premier League table by 12 points during the 1995-96 season but ended up being pipped at the post by Manchester United – and Neville described that team as “exciting losers” who “nobody remembers” now.
Jose Mourinho’s Blues meanwhile were forced to endure chants of “boring, boring Chelsea” during the 0-0 draw against Arsenal at the Emirates last weekend – but Sky Sports pundit Neville said that was “absolute nonsense” because “people remember winners”.

Tommy Lasorda may not have understood what he was asking the "what" to be turned down for...but who does, really? The 87-year-old former Dodgers manager and living baseball legend extended an offer to fans via Twitter (yes, 'cause he tweets regularly, as does 87-year-old Dodgers announcer Vin Scully) to give him something that they had always wanted to hear him say—and he would make a video of himself saying it and post it on Instagram! So, congratulations to David Jones, magazine editor and self-described sports addict who tweeted back, "Turn down for what!!!" Because that's what Lasorda made a video of himself saying quite enthusiastically, even adding a bit of a dance to go...

From 1958 to 1972, the small rural town of Lewiston, Idaho produced four Queens Of Roleo; women who reigned supreme in the sport of logrolling, and who together accounted for 11 World Championships in just 14 years. This would be an impressive sporting legacy under any circumstances, but for a remote rural town - with a population of barely 20,000 at the time - it is outright astonishing.First time documentary director David Jones, an Oregon newsman by trade, stumbled upon the story and immediately declared someone just had to investigate how this happened. When nobody took up the challenge, Jones decided to get to the bottom of it all himself, and at the bottom is where he found Roy Bartlett, a self-proclaimed "pond monkey."Bartlett, now...

Et special correspondent Jason Dundas met up with Heidi Klum as she was launching her line of intimates at David Jones department store in Sydney, Australia, but he forgot one thing -- his pants!
Heidi got Jason, a spokesperson for David Jones, to strip down to his skivvies in our impromptu interview.
News: Heidi Klum Owns How Many Pairs of Shoes?
"I want to represent the brand," Jason told Heidi. "Am I doing any justice?"

David Jones (Martin Gooch) is a man with a mission; to find his brother, Simon, who was abducted by aliens nearly 30 years ago. Fed tips about UFOs by an American ‘ufologist’ AlienFromArcturas in exchange for cash, David travels in search of UFOs to places like Denmark and Utah, or wherever his tips take him. Unfortunately, they tend not to lead to anything, and while his obsession alienates his friends at home, he meets and befriends psychiatrist/author Eloise Eldritch (Noeleen Comiskey) and Angela (Sophie Aldred) and soon remembers more about Simon’s disappearance than what his dad told him as a child.
I’ll be honest, the opening 5 minutes of The Search For Simon made me audibly groan.

The rarest of all possible worlds, a TV spin-off from a film that’s actually good (there’s pretty much this and M.A.S.H.), Dragons: Defenders of Berk is hitting with a Part 1 DVD on March 25th, and I’ve got a copy you can win.
So far, everything connected with this franchise has been pretty amazing, which gives one a lot of hope for the next film. The series is a lot of fun, though obviously geared a bit more toward not having to completely account for older audiences. Still, the characters are rich and fun, and it doesn’t get boring, or bogged down in routine, cliche episodic content.
If you’re a fan, or know of one, get your entry in now for your chance to take this one home.
Take a look at all the info about the release below, including the bonuses.

Today seems to be the day for Xbox One rumors. After hearing some Halo-related news earlier as well as a scoop on some new Xbox One bundles/SKUs coming later this year, it’s time for another tasty piece of gossip. This time, it’s about Crackdown 3 and according to a user on NeoGAF (the same one who spilt the earlier rumors), the game is already in development and is eyeing a 2016 release.
Apparently, the people behind Crackdown 3 are Scottish studio Cloudgine. That name might not sound significant but get this. Their co-founder happens to be none other than David Jones, the creator of the original Crackdown. Coincidence, I think not?
It’s also interesting to note that this isn’t the first we’ve heard of a potential Crackdown 3. Rumors have been popping up for a while now and I’m starting to feel like this one is all but confirmed.
