We recently learned that Marvel Studios is eyeing Deadpool & Wolverine director Shawn Levy to helm Avengers 5. The filmmaker has read Michael Waldron's script for the project and is now in talks to take charge of a movie originally titled The Kang Dynasty.
The Cosmic Circus has shared an update on the project today, reiterating recent reports about it featuring a "grounded story" with Multiversal elements. The site has also heard that, when it comes to Avengers: Secret Wars, it will likely become a two-parter and feature "more than one central antagonist."
It also sounds like the plan is to adapt elements from Jason Aaron's Avengers Assemble event. In that, Mephisto rewrites reality to rid himself of Earth-616's Avengers once and for all; the heroes pursue the villain through the Multiverse and even meet their 10,000 B.C. counterparts. It also involved a Multiversal Masters of Evil.

In 2008, the mastermind genius of Kevin Feige and John Favreau, combined with the unmatchable acting prowess brought forth by Robert Downey Jr. gave birth to one of the most profitable global franchises, the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
After carefully crafting the stories that followed with continuity and patience, the full team of the studio’s original six heroes came to full force in 2012’s The Avengers, with Chris Hemsworth as Thor standing out for his physique and charisma.

Playing the God of Thunder, the Australian actor soon won over hearts for the on-screen raw strength that he displayed. Furthermore, going down the lines, his epic entrances became a much sought-after affair for fans.
Despite the enormous popularity of the hero, his solo movies oftentimes painted contrasting pictures with a hit-and-miss approach coming to the fore alternately in his four such outings so far. However,...

Disney is finally focused on making good on their promise of focusing on quality over quantity. The House of Mouse has allegedly ‘quietly canceled’ a host of Star Wars and Marvel projects that were announced in the previous years. The company will now be focusing on its bigger franchises. This means that the focus for the coming few years will be on building the various established lucrative characters that it has available when it comes to Marvel.
The original six superheroes from The Avengers (2012)
Avengers 5, previously titled Avengers: Kang Dynasty, is one project that might be better off canceled. Given that the villain being set up over multiple phases might no longer be part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, it must make sense to remove the film entirely, and instead, uniting the Avengers with Avengers: Secret Wars.

This post contains spoilers for The Marvels.
For a variety of reasons, The Marvels left a lot of lingering questions in the minds of viewers. One of the biggest concerns the movie’s MacGuffin itself, the bangle that the villain Dar-Benn uses to fight the heroes and restore her home planet Hala.
In the climactic scene of The Marvels, the central trio defeats Dar-Benn and Ms. Marvel takes her bangle, pairing it to one she received from her grandmother. But when Kamala returns to Earth and hugs her parents at the end of the movie, she’s only wearing one bangle. She doesn’t explain what happened to its pair, and instead focuses on the loss of Monica Rambeau, now stuck in the X-Men universe for some reason.
For such an important item, the bangle doesn’t get the attention it deserves from The Marvels. However, viewers paying attention will...

2008 saw the debut of a movie that continues to have major repercussions for the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
No, not Iron Man. We’re talking about the second MCU movie, which hit theaters a month after Iron Man. For years, it seemed like Marvel wanted to ignore The Incredible Hulk, only referencing the movie’s events in the equally tangental Netflix MCU shows. But then William Hurt reprised his role as General Thunderbolt Ross in Captain America: Civil War. And then Tim Roth came back as Abomination for Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings and She-Hulk: Attorney at Law. And now Tim Blake Nelson and Liv Tyler are back as Samuel Sterns aka The Leader and Betty Ross for Captain America: Brave New World.
But there remains one notable omission in this incredible reunion. The Hulk himself, Edward Norton as Bruce Banner. For the movie’s first viewers,...

This article contains She-Hulk: Attorney at Law finale spoilers
She-Hulk: Attorney at Law finished off its first season and it was a lot. Maybe it was a little. Or both at the same time. Either way, it was crazy and the fact that Marvel hyped it up with a trailer made entirely of old footage except for two brief shots of Hulk vs. Abomination was kind of brilliant considering where it led to.
As the final episode exploded in character callbacks and hackneyed twists turning into an oversaturated fight scene that Jen Walters felt did a disservice to her season-long storyline, the episode suddenly went full meta as She-Hulk confronted K.E.V.I.N., the AI behind the creation of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Things got cute with references to the X-Men and Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, but ultimately, Jen erased Hulk’s grand return despite K.E.

Ms. Marvel Episode 6
Although Ms. Marvel’s final scene before the credits will likely have the biggest stakes for the MCU, the end-credit scene has more immediate importance. So before we let mutant madness overtake us, let’s take a moment to examine the end-credit scene and what it means for our favorite hero from New Jersey.
Like the comic books that inspired it, the Marvel Cinematic Universe gets a lot of mileage out of letting its characters meet each other. And with Ms. Marvel’s Kamala Khan, we got a hero who not only has powers but is also a huge fan of superheroes. So if there’s ever a good opportunity for a Marvel hero to drop by, it’s in Ms. Marvel, especially given her love of Carol Danvers herself, Captain Marvel. But by the tie the end credits rolled on episode six,...

The Loki season finale felt like the payoff that MCU fans have been waiting for: it was a massive expansion of the MCU while also rewarding those of us most steeped in the lore of the Marvel Universe. And in that, it was a triumph in more than one way: He Who Remains, the dramatically revealed big power pulling all the strings throughout the entire series, was retconned from his comics origins into an even deeper, wilder character family: the Kangs.
Kang the Conqueror
He Who Remains, played beautifully by upcoming Ant Man & Wasp: Quantumania villain Jonathan Majors, did an admirable job of explaining Kang the Conqueror’s backstory in the episode. Kang has one of the most convoluted, complicated backstories in all of comics, a feat when you consider he shares page space with the alien rebel leader who’s his own grandpa or...

The arrival of Marvel’s Loki on Disney+ is maybe the biggest expansion of the MCU since Guardians of the Galaxy brought viewers out into the cosmos. However, the added dimension in Loki is an order of cosmological magnitude greater than just going into space.
The main setting of Loki is the Time Variance Authority, created by the Time-Keepers to guard the one true sacred timeline. But who are these mysterious space lizards, and where do they get off deciding what the true timeline is? Let’s look to the comics to find out.
The Time-Keepers
Loki’s Time-Keepers are introduced in Miss Minutes’ orientation video as survivors of a massive, multiversal war with enormous powers, who decided that in order to prevent that kind of war from ever happening again, they would cultivate the timestream and make...

If the title of Doctor Strange’s solo sequel or all of the WandaVision footage we’ve seen so far hasn’t made it clear enough, then the swirl of official and theoretical casting news surrounding Spider-Man 3 should make it pretty obvious that the Marvel Cinematic Universe is set to go all-in on the concept of alternate realities and fractured timelines.
Avengers: Endgame will be difficult to top both in terms of earning power and sheer scale, but with Earth’s Mightiest Heroes inevitably assembling again in the future, the studio are going to have to pull out all of the stops in an effort to deliver something even bigger and better than the conclusion to the Infinity Saga.
A new fan theory claims that to do this, Marvel will unite the heroes of the multiverse together in a reality-spanning epic that would make Endgame look like a quaint drama by comparison.

When viewing Avengers: Endgame for the first time, Marvel fans were surprised by the scene where Bruce Banner is reintroduced after the five-year time jump, and it’s revealed that he’s now become Smart Hulk. Much to folks’ frustration, the film skips over how Banner managed to merge his two personalities, though we’re briefly told that he “put the brains and the brawn together” via experiments with gamma radiation. Here’s one question that definitely doesn’t get answered, though: why does Smart Hulk still need glasses?
We’ve seen plenty of times in the McU that the Hulk is super-durable and in perfect physical health. And in the comics, particularly the current “Immortal Hulk” persona, the green giant is able to heal himself from even fatal injuries in order to keep himself and Banner alive. Despite being one of the original members of the Avengers as well as a beloved character among fans of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, the complicated rights issues with the Hulk mean that Mark Ruffalo’s Bruce Banner will likely never get the chance to headline his own solo movie. That being said, the studio are free to use the big guy however they see fit as a supporting character, and all the signs point to his next appearance being part of the She-Hulk show on Disney Plus.
With the limited series not expected until 2020, there’s plenty of time to put all of the pieces into place, including the casting of the title heroine. A recently-leaked casting call indicates that Jennifer Walters is set to play a huge role in the McU going forward and even become a member of Earth’s Mightiest Heroes, so landing the lead has the...

One of the big constants in Marvel has always been the endless rivalry between the Skrulls and the Kree. Back in the ‘70s, we got the classic Avengers story, The Kree-Skrull War out of the two alien forces going to war with each other with Earth’s fate in the balance. The What If spinoff (“What If the Avengers Fought the Kree-Skrull War Without Rick Jones?”) is presumably the first massive superhero team-up storyline in Marvel history. The aftermath of the Kree-Skrull War caused the creation of Marvel’s Illuminati. They even retconned it so that Venom’s origins were spawned from the war (its first host was a Kree warrior trying to weaponize shape-shifting against a race of shape-shifters).
Plus, hey, we got a pretty successful Captain Marvel movie based on the feud.
A major wrinkle in the rivalry appeared in the mid-00s when we got to meet Hulkling from the Young Avengers.

The McU has adapted a multitude of iconic characters from the pages of Marvel Comics to the screen, but even 10 years in there are still a handful that we’ve yet to see in the franchise. Case in point: Rick Jones, sidekick to many of the Avengers since 1962. Despite being best pals with Hulk, Captain America and Captain Marvel, Rick has yet to be make it into the McU, but this may be about to change.
According to McU Cosmic, Marvel has plans to introduce him in the near future. The outlet is unable to narrow it down to a specific property right now, or even whether it’ll be a movie or a Disney Plus TV show, but it’s noted that Rick will likely make his debut “relatively soon.”
Due to this, they speculate that Rick may appear in Captain Marvel 2. As said above, he has a long-running connection to the hero – albeit,...

The question of rights to Marvel characters has long been significant for deciding who gets to appear in which movie. Indeed, the success of the McU has partly been down to Disney’s ruthless exploitation of Marvel’s IP, now extended to properties previously held by 20th Century Fox. The ongoing dispute over the Spider-Man rights show just how important a bargaining chip a character can be for a studio’s future plans and helping to sort through the complexity of these rights is a new graphic from The Geek Twins, which breaks down which company owns which Marvel character.
You can see the original Tweet with the graphic here, or in the gallery below, but to give a brief rundown of where things stand at the moment, rights are split into four sometimes overlapping bubbles: Marvel Studios at Disney, Universal Pictures, Sony Pictures and Netflix. It’s no surprise...

In Marvel comics, Carol Danvers is only the latest character to call herself Captain Marvel. Here are the six others…
For a superhero that shares the name of the very company that publishes their adventures, the Captain Marvel identity has been surprisingly inconsistent over the years. Indeed, the first Captain Marvel wasn’t owned by Marvel at all, and it wasn’t until the late 1960s that Marvel had its own version of the character.
But Mar-Vell, who you may have heard of, was only the first in a long line of heroes who took the name – a line which culminates with Carol Danvers hitting cinema screens as the star of the Captain Marvel movie.
Here's a rundown of all the characters who have donned the Captain Marvel persona:

In shocker-not-shocker news, Disney has finally announced who it is Jude Law is playing in “Captain Marvel.” And yep, it’s exactly what fans have assumed to be the case ever since Law joined the cast.
A photo posted Thursday to Disney Movies spells it out plainly: “Jude Law as Mar-Vell, the leader of Starforce.” See the photo for yourself above.
Up until now, Law’s character has been described only as a “mentor” to Brie Larson’s Carol Danvers/Captain Marvel, with no name given. But of course, Marvel fans know just who Carol’s comic book mentor is, and now so do the rest of you.

If you aren't a fan of AMC's robot drama Humans, then Crazy Rich Asians was likely your first introduction to British actress Gemma Chan. She appears in the box office blockbuster as Astrid, the striking, stylish, genuine, and most importantly, kind cousin of Nick Young (Henry Golding), the rom-com's leading man. The Jon M. Chu-directed hit has already been granted a sequel, in which Chan will likely have a much larger part, but before that she's going to appear in a very different blockbuster: Captain Marvel. So, who does she play?
Chan is taking on the role of Minn-Erva in Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck's superhero flick, a character who is Kree, just like Guardians of the Galaxy's Ronan the Accuser. She is an extremely bright geneticist who, in the comics, ends up with Captain Marvel-esque powers after she comes to...

Let’s face it, Secret Empire is easily the most controversial event comic in years. And this, I think, is the issue that really turns the story upside down.
It really does look as though writer Nick Spencer has been pulling a bait-and-switch all along. There’s a twist at the end of the issue that’s simply breathtaking. Now, I’m not going to spoil it for you, as the twist really is a moment that, I think, will come to define the entire event. In fact, I reckon Secret Empire #2 will force us to reinterpret the last year’s worth of Marvel comics. That’s how big this twist really is.
Overall, this is a fascinating issue, and again, I can see why Nick Spencer claimed to be inspired by Star Wars. The attack...

I recently received an email from a Gt reader named Matt, pointing out what he thinks is a big undiscovered Easter egg in James Gunn’s Guardians of the Galaxy. Could this be the big Easter egg teased by Gunn? I have no idea, but it looks like that Matt could be on to something. The email came along with the following image:
The image features a screenshot of the hologram body scan of Peter Quill/Star-Lord from the film next to an image of the Marvel character known as Legacy, a.k.a. Genis-Vell, a.k.a. Captain Marvel. As you can see there’s a fascinating resemblance between the two images. I know that this doesn’t really follow the storyline laid out in the comic books, but Marvel Studios and Gunn could be switching some things up for the future storyline for Star-Lord, which could be really interesting.

Here’s a fun animated video that tells us the entire story of Mega Man in only three minutes. The video was created by Rick Jones for Arcade Cloud, and it’s a nice little refresher. This was one of my favorite games to play when I was growing up, and it’s cool to see that it’s still getting the fan love after all these years. The franchise is still going strong, and there’s even a new animated series currently in development that you can learn more about here.

The title star's conscience may have been Jiminy Cricket, but his voice in the 1940 Walt Disney animated feature Pinocchio belonged to 10-year-old Dick Jones, who made millions of fellow youngsters cry when his screen character was reunited with his father and then turned into a real boy. Jones, not only the voice of Pinocchio but the veteran of 40 movies before he landed that role, died Monday night after a fall in his San Fernando Valley, California, home, his son, Rick Jones, told the Los Angeles Times. He was 87. Inducted in 2000 as a "Disney Legend" at the studio that produced the beloved movie (which,...

Captain America is one of the most famous and important superheroes in the Marvel Universe. He is also the oldest Marvel hero to consistently have his own comic as he was created by Joe Simon and Jack Kirby in 1941. Beginning as a figure of anti-German and Japanese propaganda, Captain America and his civilian identity evolved into a man out of time, and one who was filled with great guilt because of the death of his partner Bucky Barnes. He went from wholeheartedly supporting the United States’ policy to refusing to wear the stars and stripes when the president himself was at the center of a conspiracy to hunt him down and kill him. He has fought and been betrayed by old friends and lovers, but Captain America still act as the moral center of the Marvel Universe, and the hero everyone from Spider-Man to The Punisher and Wolverine look up to and respect.

Viper (Madame Hydra) Cosplayer: Constantine In Tokyo * Photographer: Geri Kramer Photography Photographer: Darshelle Stevens Photographer: Saffels Photography Viper joined the subversive organization Hydra as one of the few female agents it had at that time. Ever ambitious, she quickly navigated her way to the highest ranks. When the Supreme Hydra Baron Wolfgang von Strucker was believed to have died in the destruction of Hydra Island, the organization fragmented. Viper, calling herself Madame Hydra, seized control of the faction operating out of New York City. Her first major operation was the attempted contamination of New York City's water supply, but she was thwarted by Captain America and Rick Jones. In revenge, she launched a series of heat-seeking missiles at Captain America but failed to kill him, seemingly perishing herself. However, one of the alien Space Phantoms unexpectedly intervened, taking on Madame Hydra's physical form and appearance and transporting her into the extra-dimensional Limbo.

This is the final issue in the Galactus mini-series, Hunger, where Marvel 616 Galactus enters the Ultimates Universe after the crazy ending of Age of Ultron, and merges with Ultimate Gah-Lak-Tus to create a super-powerful hybrid Galactus – and only Rick Jones and the Silver Surfer can stop him!
On the face of it I thought this series was going to be a lot more fun than it turned out to be. A Galactus mini-series, brilliant! But writer Joshua Hale Fialkov hasn’t done anything different with the character, besides merge the two versions of Galactus into one, which didn’t turn out to be very exciting after all. Instead this is your standard Galactus story – he shows up, tries to eat a planet, heroes fight to stop him.
Rather than focus on Galactus, this series has really been about Rick Jones – whiny, teenage Rick Jones aka Ultimate Captain Marvel. His character is pretty dislikeable,...

SNL has had its fun with superheroes over the years, dealing with the likes of Superman, the Hulk, and even...Black Lightning?
From making fun of Ant-Man in 1979 to making fun of Ant-Man in 2014, Saturday Night Live has always thrown a line to the world of comic book superheroes. Superman himself has been portrayed by the likes of Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, Phil Hartman, Jerry Seinfeld, The Rock, and even Macaulay Culkin.
With the increased mainstream popularity, the superhero skits definitely became more rampant in the latter half of the show's tenure, though there's still a gem or two in the early days. Here's our take on which ones reign supreme.
10. Superman's Fortress of Solitude
Season 7: Episode 8 (2001) – Hosted by Hugh Jackman
People always talk about how The Prestige is Wolverine vs. Batman, but in this one instance, Jackman did play the Man of Steel, truly making...

Spinning out of the aftermath of Age of Ultron, Galactus has crossed into the Ultimates Universe – and he’s hungry!
I was looking forward to this comic as it’s been a while since I read a Galactus-centred book, so it’s disappointing that even in his own series, he barely shows up. Instead, the bulk of the comic features Rick Jones, a herald of the Watchers (kind of like the Ultimates version of the Silver Surfer), as he tries to get a burger then gets teleported out into space to witness a battle between the Chitauri and the Kree.
If you’re not a fan of Rick Jones (which is almost everyone), you’re unlikely to be swayed by the annoying chatterbox who blathers his way through this mediocre comic, complaining like a twenty-something Bart Simpson to the stoic personality-vacuum of the Watcher. The entire time I was reading...

Captain Marvel vol 4. (#1-25)
Writer: Peter David
Colorist: Chris Sotomayor
Published by Marvel Comics
One day at a shop, a book caught my eye. It’s very rare that I’ll see something and revert to a prepubescent “ewww, shiny” stage but just look at how awesome that damn cover is:
As it turns out Peter David’s short lived run with one of Marvel’s lesser known heroes would be one heck of a quality impulse buy. Captain Marvel, for those who don’t know, was a preposterously powerful extraterrestrial character from the 60′s who featured prominently in the big galaxy wide story arcs but also had his own crappy 62 issue run of mostly forgettable books. The character was criticized for being too generic and lacking much creative thought, for an example his real name is Mar-Vell which is awful because of the obvious reason but also because it...

Christopher Nolan has been quoted saying Batman's sidekick Robin couldn't fit into his trilogy of films. Christian Bale said he would "refuse to go to work" if the character appeared in one of the movies. But a report from a Michigan NBC affiliate might now suggest otherwise. According to reports, location scouts for The Dark Knight Rises were in Grand Ledge, Mi recently and were looking at a water treatment plant to possibly be used as "a hideout for Batman's sidekick Robin." Are the location scouts being misquoted? Could this just be a red herring? Or are they possibly referring to another Robin? Read all the possibilities and quotes after the jump. First of all, thanks to Ain't It Cool News [1] for coming across the report from Wilx.com [2] in Michigan. Here's what the original report said. According to Eaton County and Grand Ledge officials who didn't want to be identified due to confidentiality agreements,...

Thanks to a tip-off from our friends over at Batman-News we have a transcript of comments made in an article from The Michigan Messenger by Michigan State Senator, Rick Jones about a possible new filming location for the next installment of Christopher Nolan's Batman franchise, The Dark Knight Rises A film company is investigating Grand Ledge for filming a new Batman movie. They looked at Fitzgerald Park, The Grand Ledge water treatment plant, and the underground vault area. If filmmakers decide on any of the Grand Ledge locations, it will be the second big budget film to use the Eaton county town west of Lansing. Fitzgerald Park contains rock cliffs known as "The Ledges" by locals. The Grand River runs through the area and carved the feature into the land. "Grand Ledge has already had one movie made there. The remake of 'Red Dawn.' Unfortunately, its release is...

Better question: is this just a lame excuse to post a really hot picture of a really hot actress? Well, yeah, pretty much. But there is some news value to this post, too, like, uh, Alice Eve (the hot girl out of everyone’s league in “She’s Out of My League”) has been signed on to a Marvel contract to play someone in some movie. According to Avengers News, who quotes an unnamed source, Eve recently signed her mysterious deal with Marvel Studios, and may be up for one of these roles: Sharon Carter, Carol Danvers, Enchantress and Shanna. Plus, that Kevin Pennington guy is also up for some roles, too, possibly one of these characters: Daniel Rand (Iron Fist), Rick Jones, Robert Reynolds (Sentry) and Ka-Zar. Yeah, lots of maybes, mights, and howzabouts there. One thing is certain, though: Alice Eve is smoking.

Tom Brevoort has revealed a failed former pitch for a Young Avengers team from 1989. The pitch from Jim Valentino and Rob Liefeld was made 16 years before Allan Heinberg and Jim Cheung's incarnation of the team first appeared. The proposed team was to feature Namorita, Firestar, Vance Astro, Speedball, Richard Rider as Torpedo and two new characters to train under Rick Jones. "At the time this was written in 1989, while both of them had dabbled in doing Marvel work, neither creator had really had a break-out hit," wrote Marvel's senior VP-executive editor on his Marvel.com blog. The Marvel Encyclopedia, Updated and Expanded
400 pages, Dk Books, $40
These days, you can’t follow Marvel’s or DC’s continuities without a scorecard and thankfully more than a few reference sources have arrived to help out. The latest is Dk’s 70th Anniversary contribution, a revised version of 2006’s The Marvel Encyclopedia. What a difference three years can make to continuity.
The key difference in the editions is the addition of pages, bringing the total to a hefty 400 pages. Dk did everyone a favor and kept the cover price consistent at $40. Frank Cho’s cover is replaced with a Brandon Peterson piece that attempts to reflect the full history of the Marvel heroes. Matt Forbeck deftly took the original text, written by a quintet of experts such as Tom DeFalco and Peter Sanderson, and brought dozens of entries up to date in addition to adding entirely new ones where warranted.
