"We are headed to the big leagues!" Disney has revealed a trailer for a new animated anthology series, in the same vein as their Star Wars: Visions collections. Kizazi Moto: Generation Fire features ten stories from Africa that are aiming "to ignite the world." The selection of animated shorts follow a set of characters through a dystopian future, in some cases through time travel, other worlds and alien beings, all through the lens of African culture. This is cool. Featuring segments with the titles "Stardust," "Mkhuzi: The Spirit Racer," "Hatima," "Enkai," "Moremi," "Surf Sangoma," "Mukudzei," "First Totem Problems," "Herderboy," and "You Give Me Heart". Animated by Triggerfish based in Cape Town. With the voices of Florence Kasumba, Kehinde Bankole, Pearl Thusi, Hakeem Kae-Kazim, Sheila Munyiva, Stycie Waweru, Candice Modiselle, Lillian Dube, Clementine Mosimane, Mandisa Nduna, Tumi Morake, Sne Dladla, Tyson Ngubeni, Nasty C, Gigi Lamayne. Damn all of these look good!

The intrigue over Victoria Alonso’s abrupt exit from Marvel continues.
On March 24, THR exclusively reported that Disney fired Alonso for breach of contract, due to her work on the Oscar-nominated feature Argentina, 1985, which was made by Amazon. Last week, Disney indicated the dismissal was due to “an indisputable breach of contract and a direct violation of company policy.”
Alonso, through attorney Patty Glaser, pushed back at this explanation for the firing, saying in a statement at the time, “Victoria, a gay Latina who had the courage to criticize Disney, was silenced. Then she was terminated when she refused to do something she believed was reprehensible.”
Some insiders at Disney believe the “reprehensible” act referenced by Glaser was a request to censor gay Pride references in the latest Ant-Man movie for the Kuwait market, sources tell The Hollywood Reporter.

New series ‘MPower’ on Disney+ Hotstar spotlight several of the MCU’s most inspirational women heroes. “Every hero has an epic origin story and so does this series,” said Executive Producer Justin W. Hochberg. “When I conceived ‘MPower’, I did it out of love for my teen daughter so she would have more icons to look up to, voices to learn from and role models to help her impact the world. Today, that vision is now a reality thanks to Brie Larsen, Elizabeth Olsen, the women of Wakanda and Zoë Saldaña, whose leadership was ‘Mpowering.’”
Saldaña is featured in episode four and serves as an Executive Producer of the series alongside Cisely and Mariel Saldana for Cinestar Pictures. “‘MPower’ is a tribute to women’s representation and empowerment,” she said. “We’re enthused to have the involvement of a diverse group of women whose voices and stories will serve as a source of inspiration.

Thirty years after her first Oscar nomination for her portrayal of Tina Turner in What’s Love Got to Do With It, Angela Bassett is once again a contender. But this nod, for her heart-wrenching turn in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, feels different. “I was just shell-shocked last time,” Bassett says. “It’s still very exciting. But last time, it was just mind-blowing.” Her second nomination is no less meaningful — it’s the first performance in a Marvel movie to be recognized by the Academy. Bassett talks about the historical and emotional nature of Wakanda Forever and finding the marrow in everything she does.
Deadline: Your Oscar nomination for Wakanda Forever is history-making. What kind of significance does that have for you?
Angela Bassett: I haven’t really concentrated on that, but I’m appreciative of being a first. Other than breaking that glass ceiling, I’ve never been a first before.

Dominique Thorne entered the Marvel Cinematic Universe as Riri Williams with Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, but the actress had actually auditioned for the role of Shuri in the original movie. She obviously didn’t win the role, but she impressed Marvel Studios enough that they knew they wanted to work with her in future. In Marvel Studios Assembled: The Making of Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, which is now streaming on Disney+, a short clip of Thorne’s original audition is played, with the actress appearing alongside the late Chadwick Boseman.

"Black Panther: Wakanda Forever" had a long reign at the box office in late 2022, coming out at number one five weeks in a row before being dethroned by some other blue people who gave the Talokans a run for their money. But the film quieted down once "Avatar: The Way of Water" hit the scene, and it's now on its way to streaming and home video.
Ahead of "Black Panther: Wakanda Forever" hitting Disney+ in February, IGN has shared an exclusive deleted scene, titled "Daughter of the Border," from the film. Like much of Ryan Coogler's contemplative, emotional follow-up to "Black Panther," it's a quiet scene that still packs a pretty big punch. In it, Dora Milaje warrior Okoye (Danai Gurira) is offered the chance to put her name in the running for queen of Wakanda after Queen Ramonda's (Angela Bassett) death. The scene is short, just 100 seconds long,...

Lupita Nyong’o may have made it look easy to swim in the underwater kingdom of Talokan, but to do so required Navy Seal-like training sessions. And the proper supervision.
The 39-year-old actress and star of “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever” posted a 54-second clip Saturday on TikTok giving fans a glimpse of the excruciating training she underwent to perfect her role as the “war dog” spy Nakia. Nyong’o captioned the video, “Swimming down to Talokan was not as easy as it looked! Safely supervised by @XPTLife and #MarkRobertsFitness.”

Few films in the 21st century have made as large of a cultural impact as “Black Panther.” A sequel was inevitable, but Chadwick Boseman’s tragic death put the creative team in a seemingly impossible position. How do you continue a franchise without its titular star?
As part of IndieWire’s Consider This FYC Brunch November 18, “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever” producer Nate Moore and costume designer Ruth E. Carter joined IndieWire’s Marcus Jones for a conversation about bringing the fictional African nation of Wakanda to life once again.
“Making this movie was a way for us to process our own grief,” Moore said. “And we knew it would be a way for the audience to mourn this character and this actor they loved so much as well.”
Boseman, and his character King T’Challa, is felt throughout “Wakanda Forever.” But the filmmakers decided an outright funeral scene was needed.

Black Panther: Wakanda Forever may be an effective, harrowing examination of grief, which depicts a nation and a family mourning the significant loss of King T’Challa — but it is still a Marvel Cinematic Universe film, meaning there is a potentially catastrophic global threat that our heroes (in this case, the royal family of Wakanda, the Dora Milaje, an M.I.T. student named RiRi Williams and CIA agent Everett Ross) must conquer before the nearly three hour run-time is up.

We hear that an LGBTQ character is appearing in a film and anticipate them being an integral part of the plot, even if their powers aren't directly tied to their sexuality or gender. However, almost every single time this happens, they turn out to be easily discarded or ignored altogether. Perhaps they pull their partner in for one quick kiss, shot at a distance, and that's all you really see of them. It begs the question, why even say that a character is LGBTQ if you're not going to feature them at all?
It turns out that you'll have to ask that question again after you see "Black Panther: Wakanda Forever." While it probably isn't surprising that the Dora Milaje officer Ayo (Florence Kasumba...

Although the release of Black Panther: Wakanda Forever is somewhat bittersweet in a world without Chadwick Boseman, audiences are clearly ready to be thrust back into the world of Wakanda. The LGBTQ+ representation in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever might not exactly be extensive — coming down mostly to a blink-and-you’ll-miss-it moment of affection between Michaela Coel’s character Aneka and Florence Kasumba’s Ayo — but it’s enough for the moment to have been cut for the film’s release in one Gulf country.
The Hollywood Reporter has learned that while only a very small number of edits have been made to Marvel’s all-star sequel for it to be released in Kuwait, amounting to just over 1 minute of cuts in total, this has included the 10-second scene in which Aneka kisses Ayo on the forehead. Also removed, at the request of censors, was a scene in which a woman gives birth to a child and the line, “A god to his people.”

"Black Panther: Wakanda Forever" introduces quite a few new heroes, including Riri Williams, aka Ironheart (Dominique Thorne) and Namor (Tenoch Huerta). We also meet one of the Dora Milaje, Aneka (Michaela Coel), a little better. Aneka joins with Okoye (Danai Gurira) to become the Midnight Angels, wearing special suits made for them by Shuri (Letitia Wright). Ahead, we're breaking down just who the Midnight Angels are, Aneka's history in the comics, and where we'll see these characters again going forward in the MCU.
Who Is Aneka in the Marvel Comics?
In the comics, Aneka is a member of the Dora Milaje. She kills a Wakandan chieftan because of his abusive behavior toward the women in his village. Despite those mitigating circumstances, Queen Ramonda sentences her to death. Another Dora Milaje, Ayo, who's played by Florence Kasumba in the MCU, can't let it stand and steals Midnight Angels armor to break Aneka out of prison.

Hollywood’s two biggest superhero movies of late 2022 — Disney’s Black Panther: Wakanda Forever and Warner Bros.’ Dwayne Johnson tentpole Black Adam — are expected to be blocked from release in China, as Beijing regulators continue to crack down on U.S. access to the world’s second-largest theatrical market.
There is less on the line for Hollywood in China than there used to be, thanks to the country’s steady tightening of censorship control and nearly three years of strict Covid-zero policies, but regulators’ consistent snubbing of top-tier superhero titles is still costing the studios tens of millions in potential revenue.
The first Black Panther film earned 105 million in China in 2018, while Dwayne Johnson’s movies — such as Skyscraper (98 million in China) and Hobbs & Shaw (201 million) — have tended to do big business in the country.

The Marvel Cinematic Universe has grown quite a bit since we last visited Wakanda. We’ve met new comic characters in film form, like Shang-Chi, The Eternals and Ms. Marvel, as well as Oscar Isaac’s Moon Knight. Thor, Tom Holland’s Peter Parker and Doctor Strange have all received at least second if not third (or in Thor’s case fourth) installments within their respective hero’s journeys. But of course, the worst news involves the passing of Chadwick Boseman, who portrayed Prince and then King T’Challa in “Black Panther” (2018).
Boseman’s character has not been recast, and the legacy he left behind serves as its own presence in “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.” The world of Wakanda has been slowly introduced over the last few years in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, so it might be helpful to brush up on who has crossed the borders of the hidden nation,...

Ryan Coogler’s Black Panther: Wakanda Forever began unfurling at the foreign box office on Wednesday, grossing 10.1 million from 17 material markets.
By the weekend, Wakanda Forever will be playing in theaters around the globe, excluding China and Russia. Projections show the tentpole opening to at least 175 million in North America — some exhibitors are suggesting 185 million to 200 million — and anywhere from 155 million to 195 million at the international box office.
That should put is worldwide start at 325 million or more. That would make it the third-biggest global opening of the pandemic era behind Sony and Marvel’s Spider-Man: No Way Home and Marvel/Disney’s Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.
In terms of comparisons to other superhero fare, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever opened 285 percent ahead of Black Adam and 45 percent ahead of The Batman. However, it came in 27 percent below the first Black Panther...

The box office has been in a brutally slow period since summer ended, but at last there is a huge blockbuster to save the day, at least temporarily. The much awaited Black Panther: Wakanda Forever opens this weekend, and it could see the year’s biggest opening (currently held by fellow MCU film Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness with 187 million) and maybe even give this weekend the year’s biggest overall box office, though that’s a much loftier feat. The film’s predecessor Black Panther opened to 202 million in 2018, then the fifth biggest opening of all time and currently the eighth biggest, and there is the possibility that the sequel surpasses it. Don’t be disappointed if Wakanda Forever doesn’t beat any of the aforementioned stats, but wherever it ends up, we are sure to see explosive numbers this weekend.

Director Ryan Coogler returns with this sequel to Marvel’s Black Panther (2018) which respectfully marks the passing of previous lead actor Chadwick Boseman. The result is an entertaining adventure that introduces exciting new characters and ensures the continuation of the franchise, while delivering the expected combination of comic book action, humour and emotion, in the mighty Marvel manner.
The tragic and untimely death of actor Chadwick Boseman in 2020 had a devastating impact on Marvel fans worldwide. As a mark of respect, Marvel Studios opted not to simply recast the role of T’Challa / Black Panther for the sequel. Instead, they have rewritten the script to address the fact that the character has died, and explore the impact of his death on Wakanda itself.

Perhaps inescapably, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever — Ryan Coogler’s sequel to 2018’s game-changing hit Black Panther — opens on a somber note. There are heroics to be had here, for sure. This is another globe-spanning, pan-African, multifaceted story like its predecessor, with historical breadth ranging from the invasion of the Conquistadors to the hyper-present, tense machinations of the CIA; a story armed with a righteous villain whose arguments cannot be easily dismissed, a keen eye for ritual and tradition, a pure love for the possibilities that a belief in Wakanda can bring.

The 2018 blockbuster Black Panther marked several milestones for Marvel and the whole MCU in ways that would be hard to follow, not least being its wide-ranging cultural impact, its groundbreaking and game-changing opening for Black filmmakers in front of and behind the camera, its imprint on social issues and certainly the fact that it became the first so-called comic book movie adaptation ever to be nominated for the Best Picture Oscar. That is some legacy, and add its 1.3 billion worldwide gross and you have an obvious candidate for a blockbuster sequel. However the tragic, completely unexpected 2020 death of its star, Chadwick Boseman, of cancer at just age 43, and the whole idea of carrying the story forward without its driving onscreen force of King T’Challa would be a tall order for anyone. Fortunately for us, it is one that largely has been met with dignity, grief over unthinkable loss and...

Plot: Queen Ramonda and the people of Wakanda face a changing world, and must protect itself from foreign powers looking to take their precious resources.
Review: When Black Panther first arrived in theatres, the MCU feature garnered critical and audience praise. It was a massive success that ultimately led to several Academy Award nominations, including Best Picture – as well as winning a few in the process. It was easy to see that Chadwick Boseman was embarking on a very successful run as T’Challa/Black Panther. Sadly, a tragedy took this incredible talent away from us too early. How do you continue as a franchise after that kind of loss? If you want to present a brilliantly executed, emotional, thrilling, and powerful continuation, you can always follow the example of Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. Not only is it a terrific sequel to the first, but it’s also a loving tribute.

There’s a new face behind the claws and cowl, as the Marvel Cinematic Universe prepares to usher in its next era with Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. Disney’s latest batch of Marvel outings is rounding off in poignant style, with Ryan Coogler’s sequel to 2018’s movie waving goodbye to Phase 4 alongside Chadwick Boseman’s T’Challa.
Although most of the Black Panther cast are back for more, the tragic passing of Boseman in 2020 means he’s unable to return for Wakanda Forever. It isn’t just events out of Coogler’s hands that mean characters aren’t suiting up for the war between the Wakandans and Talokan’s, because Daniel Kaluuya’s W’Kabi is also sitting this one out.
Remembering back to Black Panther, W’Kabi was the Head of Security for the Border Tribe, boyfriend of Danai Gurira’s Okoye, and supposed best friend of T’Challa.

Don’t call “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever” just another comic book movie.
Helmed by Ryan Coogler, the sequel to the 2019 best picture nominee delivers a wrenching story of grief and reclamation, as the family of T’Challa — played by the late Chadwick Boseman — adjusts to a world coping with his death. At the center of the saga is Angela Bassett as Ramonda, the queen mother of Wakanda, who carries the devastating loss of her child with stunning resolve. Bassett’s ferocious work will undoubtedly descend upon a wide-open Oscar race for best supporting actress.
An Oscar-size crater was created in the category when Michelle Williams’ camp announced her lead actress campaign for her role in “The Fabelmans.” As it stands, multiple performers from the same films (see “Women Talking”) are vying for attention. Meanwhile, Bassett, a staple of cinema for more than 30 years, enjoys deep respect from her peers, and...

A day after releasing the audio for “Lift Me Up,” her new song from the soundtrack of “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever,” Rihanna has dropped the official music video, and you can watch it above now.
The video is a fairly simple thing — Rihanna just went to a beach somewhere and had a camera crew capture her looking emotional against a sunset and twilight sky. It’s interspersed with footage from “Wakanda Forever,” which will of course be its own kind of emotional, since the context both in the story and in the real world is the tragic loss of Chadwick Boseman, who died of cancer in 2020.
The song is Rihanna’s first solo single since “Lemon” in 2017.
