With new exclusive behind the scenes pictures, director Kevin Lima takes us through Enchanted, as it hits its 10th birthday.
It’s been ten years since the terrific Enchanted arrived in UK cinemas, just under two months after it premiered at the London Film Festival. The film made a star of Amy Adams, brought back 2D animation from Disney to the big screen, and has a songbook that sits happily alongside the top end of Disney work. Plus, the film remains a flat out family treat.
“It has been a long time” Lima chuckled, apologising in advance if he couldn’t recall all the answers I was after. Turns out he didn’t do too badly. He spared me some time to look back over the film, the challenges of making it, and what happened next…
I’ve only just discovered that Enchanted actually had its premiere in the UK!

Back in 2010, Bill Kelly sold his sci-fi script Timeless, which at one point had Philip Noyce attached to direct. Four years later, the project is finally set to find its way in front of cameras, and a new director has been named. Read on!
Per Deadline, UK director Carl Tibbetts is now in the director's chair, after recently making his feature debut with 2011's Retreat.
The story tracks a twenty-something surfer who sets out to build a time-travel machine after his wife dies in an accident. He taps a young Harvard physicist to help make the impossible a reality.
New financier Nicolas Veinberg and Defiant Pictures have come aboard, and Sunil Perkash (Salt, Enchanted, Premonition) will produce alongside Veinberg and Lucas Jarach. Relativity Media, which made the initial spec deal, is circling for domestic distribution.
Shooting is set to begin next spring in Gran Canaria, Spain, with casting currently under way.

Blue Underground just sent over the specs and artwork for their upcoming release of the hilariously controversial flick Snuff and we've got the skinny! Guess what? There are actually extras this time!
Look for the Blu-ray and DVD in stores on October 22nd. For those of you who don't know, Snuff was originally called Slaughter - a lousy film from husband/wife filmmaker team Michael and Roberta Findlay. When Slaughter's producers deemed it unreleasable, they shelved it while searching for a way to recoup costs. Finally, producer Allan Shackleton decided to cut the film's ending off and replace it with a "real" sequence of an actress being brutally murdered behind the scenes. Hence, Snuff.

Enchanted
Directed by Kevin Lima
Written by Bill Kelly
Starring Amy Adams, Patrick Dempsey, Susan Sarandon, James Marsden, Timothy Spall
I have rarely seen a movie as undeserving of its lead performance as I have with Enchanted and Amy Adams. And I want to reiterate, in this column, what I said on the podcast: I think Adams’ work in this film is one of the best lead performances in any American film in a long time. It is a monumentally difficult, brave, and daring role to play. Whatever opinion people have of Enchanted is first informed by their opinion of Adams’ performance as Giselle. If she’s not so sparkling and lively and entertaining in this film, we would not be thinking of it fondly in any form. It’s not just that this is a character-driven film, it’s that it’s so singularly performance-driven, to the overall film’s detriment.

Liam Hemsworth is everywhere these days. The younger brother of Thor’s Christopher Hemsworth is carving out his own Hollywood niche, with appearances in The Expendables 2, The Hunger Games, and Empire State looming the near future. He then spends his inheritance building a time machine so he can travel back to have one last visit with the woman he loves. The script comes courtesy of Enchanted scribe Bill Kelly. Though his older brother Chris Hemsworth jumped a bit ahead in terms of fame factor after starring as Thor in the Marvel Comics movie of the same name, it’s starting to look like younger brother Liam Hemsworth is poised for a comeback. He’s all set to play Gale Hawthorne in the sure to be ridiculously high profile The Hunger Games as well as join forces with a bunch of action movie legends as Bill ‘The Kid’ Timmons in The Expendables 2 coming up in 2012. Written by Enchanted scribe Bill Kelly, the picture revolves around “a young man who, haunted by unresolved issues between himself and his late wife, uses the money his wife left him to build a time-travel device so he can see her a final time.”
A press release now informs us that, more than three months later, Hemsworth has inked a deal with Relativity for Timeless, which is now being described as a “thrilling adventure.” Don’t ask me why I expected something a little more… human from the man who’s helmed two Jack Ryan movies and Salt, but it was just the way my brain read things at the time. Phillip Noyce’s romantic drama/sci-fi film “Timeless” has nabbed its male lead in Liam Hemsworth, little brother of Chris of “Thor” and “The Avengers” fame. Though we had heard earlier this year that Salt director Phillip Noyce would be at the helm of Hunter Killer, an adaptation of the forthcoming Navy SEALs thriller novel Firing Point, Antoine Fuqua has now come on to direct the film. Now Variety has word on another project Noyce will take on instead as Mandate Pictures as set the filmmaker to direct The Arrangement. The story follows a married woman who makes a deal to spend three days with a wealthy man in exchange for a loan and must choose between him and her husband. Sounds like an intriguing, original, more low key thriller that won't be as over-the-top as Salt. It's not clear when production would start on the film as no cast has been set, and Noyce has some other projects he might take on first. Last year he delivered a decent, though completely unbelievably action thriller with Angelina Jolie in Salt. Now it looks like director Phillip Noyce has found his next project in the form of a Black Hawk Down style adaptation. Opinion seems to be divided on Salt. Many critics were very positive about it, though the movie going public seemed to be a little more mixed in their views.
It is possibly a little premature to be planning for a sequel, though the film did gross some $290m worldwide, so it seems likely. Either way, Philip Noyce, who directed Salt will not be back for a sequel.
Talking to Moviehole about his work on the upcoming DVD/Blu-ray release, Noyce said:-

I imagine the now probable Salt franchise is to Angelina Jolie what the Mission Impossible series is to Tom Cruise. Just like when Cruise gets a little bored with the movie offers that come his way and maybe his more risque choices don’t get the interest he might have hoped, he can make a few phone calls and convince Paramount to pull the trigger on another Ethan Hunt adventure to get him back into the blockbuster spotlight.
And because of Salt’s near $300 million worldwide total (including breaking even domestically), Sony are likely to allow Jolie the same power. Because of this, we don’t have any idea as to when we might see a sequel to Salt.

The Angelina Jolie thriller Salt may have come and gone in the minds of some viewers. -- neither of Jolie's big films this year seemed to get much traction -- but with a nearly $300 million worldwide take, the film is hardly a flop. Once marketing and everything else is factored in, the $110m film might be just breaking even, but that's before DVD and all other ancillary revenue streams flow in. So, it is not unreasonable to expect a sequel. In fact, back in August we heard that a sequel might be in the offing [1]. Acclaimed Aussie filmmaker Phillip Noyce returned to cinemas this past Summer with the Angelina Jolie spy thriller "Salt". He now tells Moviehole that if a sequel is going to be made, he won't be involved:
"Those three [alternate] Blu-ray cuts [of the film] represent just about everything I have to offer on Evelyn Salt. If there ever is a sequel, better its directed by someone with a completely fresh take on what I believe could be a totally entertaining and complex series of stories" says Noyce.
The director is now turning his attention to other projects, one of them being Relativity's romantic drama "Timeless" which Bill Kelly ("Enchanted") is writing and Sunil Perkash is producing.
Also "Atonement" scribe Christopher Hampton is currently in negotiations to rework the script for Noyce's long-gestating passion project - an adaptation of Tim Winton's "Dirt Music" which Russell Crowe is still attached to star in.

Phillip Noyce is not on board for a follow-up to "Salt", which has Angelina Jolie as lead actress. In contrary to report mentioning he is interested to return to the possible sequel, the helmer has just stated that he has no plan to make the second film.

Director Phillip Noyce (Patriot Games, Clear and Present Danger, Salt) is currently in negotiations to develop a new time-travel sci-fi film called Timeless for Relativity Media.
The movie is based on a spec script by Bill Kelly (Enchanted), and it follows a recently wed man who loses his wife and discovers after the fact she has left him a fortune. Haunted by an unresolved issue between himself and his wife, the man invests the money to build a time travel device, just to see her one last time.
This could get confusing because Robert Zemeckis is currently developing a time travel movie with the same title over at Warner Bros. His Timeless film was announced as marking his return to live-action filmmaking, and getting away from that motion capture technology.
I'm just going to assume these are two completely different film projects with the same title, and different directors.

This past summer, the decent, but wholly ridiculous and implausible action thriller Salt starring Angelina Jolie hit theaters with a moderate splash (despite coming out the same week as the San Diego Comic-Con). Now Deadline reports the film's director, Phillip Noyce, is looking at another unbelievably plot for his next film. Apparently Noyce is negotiating to direct Timeless, a film which follows a recently married man who inherits a fortune from his late wife. Plagued by an unresolved issue between he and his wife, he uses the money to build a time travel device to see her one last time, and clear the air between them once and for all. The script comes from writer Bill Kelly who impressed me with a charming, witty and quite hilarious script for Disney's live-action, somewhat self-depracating comedy Enchanted. Relativity Media, who has a take on the Snow White fairytale of their own, is...

While Salt was no great shakes (...), Phillip Noyce has nonetheless delivered in the directorial department before with such films as The Quiet American and Rabbit-proof Fence, as well as the Jack Ryan films Clear And Present Danger and Patriot Games. But how will the filmmaker fare with a time travel film? According to Deadline, the Australian-born director will tackle just that in a film entitled Timeless from a spec script by Enchanted writer Bill Kelly (Premonition, Blast From The...

Emotionally driven time travel tales crop up every once in a while, almost as if the genre was unstuck in the continuum, much like Eric Bana in The Time Traveller’s Wife. The latest crack in space-time has disgorged the script Timeless, which Salt’s Phillip Noyce is now negotiating to direct.Enchanted writer Bill Kelly hatched the plot, about a recently married man whose wife dies suddenly and unexpectedly. As he sorts through his grief, he discovers that she’s left him a fortune. But instead of going out and blowing the whole lot on hookers and booze in Vegas, he ploughs the money into research on a time machine so that he can travel back and see her one last time to resolve an issue that was left dangling by her death. Want to bet he won’t like all the answers he finds?Noyce isn’t locked,...

Have you ever had a fight with a significant other and never gotten the chance to address it? It looks like that premise is going to serve the basis for a movie. Relativity Media has picked up the spec script "Timeless" by Bill Kelly ("Enchanted") with Phillip Noyce ("Salt," "The Quiet American") in negotiations to direct. The film's sort of outlandish premise follows "a recently wed man loses his wife and discovers after the fact she has left him a fortune. Haunted by an unresolved issue between himself and his wife, the man invests the money to build a time…...

Phillip Noyce is currently in negotiations for a film called Timeless from Relativity Media, reports Deadline . Based on a spec script by Bill Kelly ( Enchanted ), Timeless is said to deal with a man who builds a time machine so that he can travel back and see his recently-deceased wife one last time. Warner Bros. was recently said to be involved with a time travel film of the same name with Robert Zemeckis attached to direct. His Timeless was announced as marking his return to live-action filmmaking. It is currently unclear whether or not these are, indeed, the same film or, if they are dueling time travels projects, which will retain the Timeless title.

Disney’s Enchanted was a surprisingly pleasant experience, I suppose. It was at the very least a clever way to revisit the classic Mouse House fairy tales by mashing together the animated and “real” worlds. Of course, the studio isn’t accustomed to leaving their cute meta film alone.
Unfortunately for fans of the 2007 film, Disney is going with a different production team for a sequel. Screenwriter Bill Kelly and director Kevin Lima have been replaced, presumably as they move on to bigger and better projects. Though in Lima’s case that’s Candy Land: The Movie…
Variety is reporting Disney has hired director Anne Fletcher (The Proposal) and screenwriter Jessie Nelson (I Am Sam, Fred Claus) to dream up another modern day fairy tale. The studio is “hoping” to lure back the original cast of Amy Adams, Patrick Dempsy, James Marsden, and Susan Sarandon, meaning they aren’t contractually obligated for the sequel.

To mark the release of Overture Films' "Sunshine Cleaning" on March 13th, Movie Jungle has assembled a list of what we think are Amy Adams’ best films to date. The 34-year-old actress born in Italy has impressed a variety of viewers with performances in the drama, comedy and family genres among others. Her knack is playing a somewhat naïve character, this comes out a few times in the films we’ve listed below. She’s been in several Academy Award®-nominated films and is a two-time nominee herself. What’s “Sunshine Cleaning” about? A single mom and her slacker sister find an unexpected way to turn their lives around in the off-beat dramatic comedy Sunshine Cleaning. Directed by Christine Jeffs ("Rain," "Sylvia"), this uplifting film about an average family that finds the path to its dreams in an unlikely setting screened in competition at the 2008 Sundance Film Festival. Once the...
