As Reece Shearsmith just announced, it’s the beginning of the end for Inside No. 9. Filming on the horror-comedy anthology’s ninth and final series began in late 2023, which means a wrap on one of the BBC’s most consistently entertaining and inventive shows is imminent.

Series nine is expected to air in spring 2024, and will add a final six episodes to the existing 49 stories in Shearsmith and co-creator Steve Pemberton’s back catalogue. Barring the first look image above, which shows Pemberton in drag at an underground train station (platform no. nine?), we don’t know anything about the stories, settings or characters yet, but we do know who’ll be joining the pair as guest stars… and it’s a deep bench.

Russ Abbot, Bullseye, Noel Edmonds and a film we all watched in the same room. Christmas TV was more exciting in the 80s...
Cast your mind back to when Christmas Day wasn't about Doctor Who followed by sticking something on Netflix until it was time to go watch the annual fist fight outside the pub.
See related Looking back at Martin Scorsese's The King Of Comedy The Wolf Of Wall Street review The Wolf Of Wall Street & Scorsese's confrontational films
In the 80s, Christmas was about seeing which fantastic fare the TV had decided to bless us with. Of course, the more prepared among us knew this well in advance, having eagerly pored over the Radio Times/TV Times to check that Jimmy Cricket's Family Laugh 'n' Waz would be shown. There it was – right after Reflections On The Eucharist With The Reverend Paul Leyland.

Gladiators, ready! The stars of the hit TV show have reunited and we're freaking out a bit.
Do you feel the power of the Gladiators? 10 stars of the hit 90s show then and now
Host Ulrika Jonsson and legendary referee John Anderson met up with Gladiators Wolf, Lightning, Jet, Ace, Hunter and Saracen for ITV's new programme The Saturday Night Story.
Of course, they met at the arena in Birmingham which used to be filled with legions of fans shouting along to 'Another One Bites The Dust'.
And to tease us even more, ITV released then and now photographs of the Gladiator stars taking part in the programme. Some of them have barely aged - the wonders of the travelator.
"For me this is really, really nostalgic because the Gladiators was a huge part of my life," Jonsson said.
"I haven't been back here [to the arena] since, I guess it must have...

Stephen Mulhern returns to TV screens with a new run of Catchphrase this Sunday (June 14), and joined Digital Spy to tell us all about the latest series of the rebooted classic game show.
The TV presenter reveals the silliest Catchphrase answer from one upcoming flustered contestant, and how Ant McPartlin is so brilliant at the quiz that he often plays the board game on a night in.
Stephen also tells us what Britain's Got Talent judge Simon Cowell is like as a boss, and shares his plans to bring a live show like The Late Late Show with James Corden over to ITV2...
Stephen, are you looking forward to the third series of Catchphrase?
"Do you know what? I can't wait. That fact that it's members of the public is a real bonus... It's all very well doing shows where you've got celebrities on, but with members of the public,...

A lot of people were pretty annoyed with Stars in Their Eyes when it returned this weekend.
On Saturday, the internet was up in arms claiming Harry Hill 'wasn't funny', ITV have 'ruined a classic' and – seriously –'bring back Matthew Kelly'.
Many had no doubt tuned in expecting Hill to emerge from the dry ice and sliding doors with a carbon copy of Kelly's (and Cat and Leslie's) version of the show, and so were left bitterly disappointed. We, meanwhile, were over the moon.
Harry Hill's Stars in Their Eyes was, shock horror, actually something different. The show was still about plucky members of the public wanting to emulate their musical heroes, but that's where the similarities ended.
Viewers who have never 'got' Harry Hill had tuned in lured by the promise of an ITV classic, and yet were smacked in the face with Hill's surreal mockery of what a singing competition is.

Stars In Their Eyes returned to ITV tonight (Saturday January 10) after a nine-year absence from our screens - but was it any good?
The format has remained largely the same, with members of the public announcing which singer they will be impersonating before disappearing into a cloud of smoke and emerging transformed into that singer.
However, the revamped Stars In Their Eyes saw a more comedic tone employed by new host Harry Hill, who follows in the footsteps of previous hosts Leslie Crowther, Matthew Kelly and Cat Deeley.
The new version of the show sparked a great deal of discussion on Twitter, with the majority of commenters expressing their disappointment:
Has a tv show ever been cancelled half way through its first episode before? just wondering..... #starsintheireyes

Matthew Kelly will make a cameo appearance in tonight's (January 10) series opener of Harry Hill's Stars in Their Eyes.
Kelly, who fronted the singing show from 1993 to 2002, will be replaced by Harry Hill as presenter.
The opening sketch will pay homage to the veteran TV host and introduce Hill in his new role.
Kelly will be seen arriving at the studio wearing a brightly coloured suit, before heading into the dressing room marked 'Host: Stars In Their Eyes'.
Hill then exits the dressing room wearing the same oversized suit.

One of my happiest memories of TV as a child was the Stars In Their Eyes grand final night. The Matthew Kelly years of the show may look rather quaint in an era of spinning chairs, dancing celebrities and X Factor shoutiness, but it was actually ahead of its time as an entertainment format.
From turning Reg the butcher and Barbara from accounts into stars for five minutes, to public phone votes for the winner, it was in many ways a proto-Pop Idol and X Factor.
The key difference between Stars In Their Eyes and what followed was the complete absence of cynicism or profiteering. It probably helped Basil from Basingstoke raise a few more quid with his George Formby covers act, but there was never any pretense that the show would be life-changing.

ITV has officially announced that Stars in their Eyes will return.
Harry Hill will host a rebooted version of the musical talent show, which originally ran from 1990 to 2006.
Members of the public will be transformed into popstars by top makeup and wardrobe artists, before impersonating them in a brand new arena.
Hill said: "Without a doubt, appearing on Stars in their Eyes as Morrissey all those years ago (although beaten, unfairly in my view, by Kirsty Young's Peggy Lee) was one of the highlights of my light entertainment career.
"So imagine the smile bought to my lips when I was asked by ITV at a secret breakfast meeting in a top London hotel to take the reigns of this Rolls-Royce of pop-impression talent shows and walk in the footsteps of showbiz giants Crowther, Kelly and Deeley! And on ITV too!
"Dust off the wigs and sequins - I'm coming home!

Stars in Their Eyes is in line to return to ITV.
The revived show will be produced by current rights-holders Endemol, with Harry Hill in line to host, according to Forbes.
Originally launched in July 1990 with Leslie Crowther as presenter, Stars in Their Eyes was a regular Saturday night primetime fixture until late 2006. A number of celebrity editions of the show - featuring contestants impersonating famous singers - were also produced by Granada Television.
Matthew Kelly and Cat Deeley were also regular hosts of Stars in Their Eyes, which won four NTAs and regularly attracted audiences of millions for its live grand finals.
An ITV spokesperson confirmed that they were continuing to talk to Hill about future projects, adding: "We love working with him, but there are no confirmed programmes commissioned at this stage."

It's game show heaven on television right now. Not only do we have all sorts of new formats making their way to screen, but some old favourites are getting a second lease of life, too - from Fifteen to One (airing daily on Channel 4) to the second series of the revived Catchphrase (Sundays on ITV.) But it got us thinking - what other game shows would we like to see return to our living rooms?
Well, we asked that very question to Fifteen to One's Sandi Toksvig and Catchphrase's Stephen Mulhern - and then had a bit of office debate about our own favourites...
You Bet! - Stephen Mulhern (Host, Catchphrase)
"This is an easy question: You Bet! It was one of my favourite TV shows and Matthew Kelly was one of my favourite presenters. I love it.
"I can give you some great examples that still amaze me to this day.

Is there anything more perfect on a Sunday evening than sitting down for a good old quiz show? No, which is why we're very happy that Stephen Mulhern is back with a brand new series of Catchphrase this weekend! To celebrate, we caught up with Stephen for a natter about rubbish contestants, trying not to follow in the footsteps of previous host Nick Weir, and why we're about to see a worthy successor to the infamous snake charmer rudeness...

'Who is Annabel Giles?' we mused aloud upon discovering she was the latest star to join I'm a Celebrity... Get Me Out of Here!.
The former model will enter the jungle along with Strictly Come Dancing star Vincent Simone tomorrow (November 22).
So as we anticipate Giles's arrival on the show, we find out more about the star with 9 fun facts - with some forgotten photographs and quality '90s TV reminiscing.
She appeared on You Bet!
Remember the show where a panel of celebrities bet on whether members of the public could successfully complete difficult and often dangerous challenges against the clock? Well, Giles took part in the show back in 1992 along with Olympic athlete Kriss Akabusi (whatever happened to him?!), Judi Spiers, Andrew O'Connor and then-host Matthew Kelly. At least three DS icons right there.

If I asked you which 10 actors you’d most like to see in a cameo role in GTA V I’m pretty sure you’d find that an easy question to answer. Especially if allowed to sit down, chill, and have a beer or three. Now try the same question with a friend, but write your lists out before discussing. I’d bet my freshest three dollar note to your shiniest 75 cent coin that none of us would agree. The funny thing is though; neither of us would be wrong!
There’s just so many great actors out there who would be a fantastic addition to the game, the challenge isn’t finding finding 10 actors that would fit into the game like a shrink-washed glove on Matthew Kelly’s hand, it’s excluding the other 10,000 who would also deserve a place in what is probably going to be the greatest game this generation.

"And I'm playing 'Crystal' - yes I am - but not the Dynasty one."
Collins previously played Alexis Carrington in the 1980s soap. Alexis's ex-husband Blake (John Forsythe) was married to her nemesis Krystle Carrington (Linda Evans).

Mr Chips is back! The cheeky snake-charming, animated golden robot is back on primetime TV for the first time in over a decade this weekend, as ITV revives the classic gameshow Catchphrase.

ITV has laid out plans for a new music-themed entertainment show in the same vein as Stars In Their Eyes.
Your Face Sounds Familiar will feature celebrities impersonating music stars in a new Saturday night format.
The show is a mix between Stars In Their Eyes and The X Factor and the format has been a success in Spain, Italy, Ukraine, Portugal, Romania and Chile.
Seven celebrities will perform over six weeks, with a panel of judges giving them points each week. Viewers will then vote for the winner.
While the same celebrities will feature each week, they will impersonate a different popstar in each episode. The judging panel will also do group performances.
The first week sees contestants choosing their popstar, but a random selection will be decided by a buzzer in further weeks.
Stars In Their Eyes ran from 1990 to 2006 on ITV, featuring non-celebrity contestants impersonating musicians. However,...

Chances are you haven’t heard of James Mulholland. But you will. Oh, you will. The young Irish director was nominated for ‘Best Newcomer’ at the 2011 Underground Film Festival for his short drama ‘What If?’. This writer was made aware of Mr. Mulholland through Roger Deakins’ personal forum (if you haven’t been on it yet, it’s awesome), and was suitably impressed by his emotional short ‘My Father’s Son’. Produced through his company Cedarwood Park Productions, Mulholland’s work is sophisticated, raw and complex- and definitely worth a watch.
Currently working on the webseries Elite as well as a swarm of other exciting projects, I approached the talented filmmaker for a bit of a chat on his work past and present, his directing methods, and his thoughts on cinema in general.
Identify yourself to the readership, Mr. Mulholland- who are you, where do you come from and what do you do?...

Dundalk director James Mulholland has wrapped principal photography on two projects, a horror short entitled 'Don't Expect Me Home' and the first episode of a planned 12-part web series called 'Elite'. Both projects were shot back to back earlier this month in Co Louth and were written and directed by Mulholland (My Father's Son). Cedarwood Park Productions produced both works. 'Don't Expect Me Home' was co-produced by Mulholland and Matthew Kelly. It tells the story of a girl called Aoife, who is minding her uncle's house that is situated in the middle of nowhere, but she soon realises she is not alone. The short stars Aoife Williamson (What If?), Matthew Kelly (My Father's Son) and Grace Kelly (Unlocking Charlie, Hysteria). Mulholland shot the short on a Canon 550D over three days. Long before Simon Cowell, The X Factor, Ant & Dec and Strictly Come Dancing, Saturday night TV entertainment used to be a very different beast. Back in the '90s when the likes of Big Break, Brucie's Generation Game and anything featuring Matthew Kelly was a hit, TV commissioners presumed that the key word was 'light' when it came to light entertainment. However, one show rallied against type, providing ruthless, rebellious thrills that would have your granny switching over to Noel Edmonds' f**king House Party.
