Supergirl's Mehcad Brooks says that his groundbreaking role as the first African American to play Superman's best friend goes to show that, with hard work, anything is possible.
"It gives me hope," he told The Real's co-hosts on Monday of booking the part of Jimmy Olsen. "When I got the call that I got the role, I was really hopeful because I think that it shows that in this country if you work hard that … you can achieve anything."
In the CBS series, the 35-year-old actor plays Superman's photographer friend, a staple of the DC Comics Superman series who is traditionally portrayed as white.

The first season of Necessary Roughness ended with a literal bang as Tk was shot, and the 2nd season has shown the long road for recovery for Tk as he has battled substance abuse as a result of that injury. For someone dependent on his physical prowess and the perception of his physical superiority, Tk has had a difficult time regaining his self-esteem and self-confidence while recovering emotionally, physically and mentally. For actor Mehcad Brooks, this roller-coaster ride of Tk’s recovery has been a phenomenal gift and he has embraced it whole-heartedly. In a recent press conference call, Mehcad shared some insights about where Tk’s journey will take him through the remainder of the 2nd season, as well as Tk’s relationships to those closest him.
Can you talk about what’s coming up for Tk when he returns to the team and what it means for his struggles with sobriety?...

It may say "King" on the back of his jersey, but is Necessary Roughness' Terrence King (Mehcad Brooks) still king of the New York Hawks?
In this exclusive clip from the midseason premiere (Jan. 23 at 10/9c on USA), T.K. is (finally!) back on the field. Unfortunately his return is made not-so-triumphant by his mouthy replacement, Joe "Toes" Kittredge (Robbie Jones), who has no qualms about telling T.K. his pigskin skills aren't...

The world of Dr. Dani Santino is about to get a lot more complicated in the second season of USA Network’s sports drama. After last year’s shocking finale in which star football receiver Terrence King was shot by a crazed fan, Dr. Dani must find a way to get inside T.K.’s head before he completely implodes and then explodes. At a recent set visit, star Callie Thorne briefly previewed what to expect in this next season and the challenges that Dr. Dani’ faces.
It looks like Dr. Dani has a very full season ahead when the season kicks off. Can you talk about getting ready for this second season and some of the fine-tuning that went on?
Callie: That’s a good question about getting back into it because we did have a nice long hiatus and it is always a little nerve racking coming back...

The month of June is upon us and now that Memorial Weekend is past we can dig our heels in for summer television. Plenty of shows are returning with new seasons in the coming weeks and we’ve gathered the ones you should be tuning into and even discuss the marketing behind their new seasons. As usual, beware of spoilers!
20. America’s Got Talent (Season 7)
NBC, Mondays at 8/7c
Summer started early for NBC and America’s Got Talent as we’re already three weeks into the auditions. While there’s a healthy amount of dance groups, comedians, magicians, singers, musicians, stuntmen and bizarre acts all vying to be Las Vegas’ next million dollar attraction, the main reason to watch this show is Howard Stern. Whatever impulsive reaction middle America had towards the Sirius Xm Radio personality at the first announcement of him becoming a judge, they should know by...

After last season’s climatic finale, which ended with the Hawks’ star football player Terrence King have been shot, the 2nd season returns with some big issues facing the trouble-plagued team. Not only is T.K. on the mend (physically and emotionally), there is rumblings of financial problems due to pending divorce of owner Marshall Pittman, the personal entanglement of the team’s athletic trainer and therapist who are secretly dating, and further complications involving the team’s “fixer” who may just be in fix of his own now that his relationship with Pittman’s wife has been revealed. The “fish bowl” existence of the Atlanta Hawks is about to come under intense scrutiny as everyone has something to hide and there is the fate of an entire football team on the line. At a recent set visit with press, executive producer Kevin Dowling offered some candid response on what...

"Whose Team Are You On?" left several characters scrambling for stable ground.
Tk didn't understand boundaries. He didn't comprehend rules and the only game he seemed to be able to play was football. When it came to the press, he completely dropped the ball.
Thankfully, Tk's a star football player because the rest of his relationships seemed to be in shambles... and the ripple effects led to a rift between Matt and Laura.
Laura's always been jealous of Dani, but this was the first time she actively tried to remove her from the team, and therefore, Matt's life. Luckily, Matt saw the tactic for what it was. He put Laura in her place when she tried to force her ambition on him.
Again, this couple just didn't hold my attention. I like both characters, but their romance really bores me.

There are lots of things to like about USA's new original series, Necessary Roughness, but at the top of my list is seeing Callie Thorne playing a character that isn't a nutcase.
After her stint on Rescue Me and her guest spots on Burn Notice, I know that Thorne is an actress I enjoy watching. It's just nice to see her portray the role of a therapist instead of a person in need of one.
The series premiere showed a lot of promise and kept me engaged despite its hour and fifteen minute length. Dr. Dani (Thorne) has the right balance of grit and vulnerability for a woman divorcing her sleazy husband and starting over.
The supporting cast was also likable, though the characters certainly need more substance. Because you can only pack so much into a pilot episode, I'm willing to give that a pass and see where they...

It hasn't aired an episode yet, but Necessary Roughness has already expanded its cast.
Andrea Anders will come on board the new USA series - which stars Mechad Brooks as a professional football player who seeks therapy from a psychologist played by Callie Thorne - as a PR executive hired by the team for which Brooks' Terrence King plays.
According to TV Line, Anders will appear on three episodes, debut on July 27 and have a history with Matt (portrayed by Marc Blucas), the football team's trainer.
* I'll be visiting the Necessary Roughness set in Atlanta next week. Return to TV Fanatic for a rundown of what you can expect from this upcoming series. It premieres on June 29.

Andrea Anders has signed up for a recurring role in upcoming USA series Necessary Roughness. The comedy-drama will focus on Dr. Dani Santino (Callie Thorne), a psychotherapist who treats a number of celebrity clients, including football star Terrence King (Mehcad Brooks), his trainer Matt (Marc Blucas) and a sports fixer (Scott Cohen). TV Line reports that Anders will play Laura, a PR executive and former flame of Matt who is hired by King's football team to repair his reputation. (more)...

Andrea Anders, whose TV resume most memorably includes the acclaimed (if undersampled) Better Off Ted and most recently (if only briefly) added Mr. Sunshine, has landed a new gig.
The super-sunny and often funny actress can next be seen in multiple episodes of Necessary Roughness, one of USA Network’s new summer dramedies, TVLine has learned exclusively.
