Multifaceted Korean film company Acemaker Movieworks will unveil four titles at this year’s Asian Contents & Film Market, which operates alongside the Busan International Film Festival. Action and revenge feature prominently as unifying themes.
The Covid pandemic continues to have a delayed impact on the Korean production and film releasing scenes. Last year’s prolonged theatrical drought meant funds for reinvestment were in short supply and releases postponed. Many of Acemaker’s movies were shot in 2020, but are only now confirming completion and new release dates.
“Remember” is an action drama film starring Lee Sung Min (“The Spy Gone North”) and Nam Joo Hyuk (best known for TV series “Start-Up” and “Twenty-Five Twenty-One”). Directed by Lee Il Hyung (“A Violent Prosecutor”), the story revolves around a retired soldier suffering from dementia, seeking revenge from people he believes caused the death of his family. The film is a remake of Atom Egoyan...

"Those kids don't know they're on a suicide mission, do they?"
We’ve got an intense trailer here for you to watch for an upcoming movie set during the Korean War. It’s called Battle of Jangsari, and it’s based on the true story of a small, inexperienced battalion of student soldiers who are given a mission to liberate the strategic location of Incheon.
This was a critical point in the Korean War and these young men entered battle on the frontlines of Jangsari beach with “little ammunition, low food supplies and second-hand weapons.” The film tells the stories of these forgotten heroes of the Korean War.
The film comes from director Kyung-taek Kwak, and the cast includes Kim Myung-Min, Minho Choi, Sung-Cheol Kim, In-kwon Kim, Si-Yang Kwak, George Eads, and Megan Fox.
The film recently opened in Korea last month and Go USA will release The Battle of Jangsari...

While it's not much worse than its predecessor, Friend 2: The Legacy has none of the bromantic charm that made Friend, South Korean writer-director Kyung-Taek Kwak's 2001 gangster drama, the highest-grossing film in Korean history.
Like his original autobiographical hit, Kwak's sequel frequently devolves into chest-thumping hysterics, as when one mobster chucks another into a bookshelf for joking "I'll fix your mama's trampy ways." But the most compelling thing about Friend 2 is its trifurcated plot, a structural gimmick borrowed from The Godfather Part II.
Set in Seoul in 2001 and 2010, and Busan in 1963, the film follows three generations of mobsters: Lee Joon-seok (Yu Oh-seong), the big boss; Lee Cheol-ju (Joo Jin-mo), his father; and Choi...

I vaguely remember Kyung-Taek Kwak’s 2001 movie “Friend”. It was a major box office hit in South Korea and went on to become something of a cult flick overseas. It’s been ages since I’ve seen the movie, and honestly, I can’t recall most of it. That’s one of the downside to watching Asian films — unless you own the movie, chances of you stumbling across it again later (like, say, on cable or TV) and refreshing your memory are pretty nil. But from the sounds of it, Kyung-Taek Kwak’s “Friend 2: The Legacy” is a continuation of the first movie. Take a look at a trailer and some images from the movie below. The sequel was a major hit in South Korea, and the fact that Kyung-Taek Kwak returns to write and direct ensures this isn’t some hack job. Or at least, one hopes. The sequel of the 2001 film Friend.
