What’s the deal with Unfrosted, the new Netflix movie from Jerry Seinfeld? Thanks to the new trailer, we find out exactly how the comedy spoofs the invention of Pop-Tarts. Watch it below.
Making his feature directorial debut, Seinfeld stars as a Kellogg’s cereal exec who aims to redefine breakfast with the toaster pastry we now know as the Pop-Tart. With Melissa McCarthy at his side, Seinfeld faces off against Post exec Amy Schumer, “stacking the deck” by enlisting celebrities like Steve Schwinn, “Chef Boyardee,” and Jack Lalanne.
Here’s the official logline: “Battle Creek, Michigan, 1963. Kellogg’s and Post, sworn cereal rivals, race to create a pastry that will change the face of breakfast forever. A wildly imaginative tale of ambition, betrayal, and menacing milkmen — sweetened with artificial ingredients.”
Thanks to an additional cast featuring Jim Gaffigan, Hugh Grant (as Tony the Tiger!), Max Greenfield, Christian Slater, Bill Burr,...

Producer Lisa Saltzman has acquired the rights to an upcoming biography about Joe Cocker, and has confirmed that a biopic about the beloved British blues-rock singer’s life is currently in development.
Titled Joe Cocker: With a Lot of Help from His Friends, the book is by the rock’n’roll biographer, Mark Bego, and will be the first crack at telling Cocker’s story since his death in 2014, following his rise in the late ‘60s, his internal struggles, and the peace he ultimately found. Cocker is perhaps best remembered for his 1968 rendition of The Beatles’ “With a Little Help from My Friends,” which became a No. 1 hit on the UK Singles Chart when it debuted. The following year, his version of the song was cemented into the zeitgeist of the ‘60s thanks...

Exclusive: Elaine McMillion Sheldon, the filmmaker known thus far for her Academy Award-nominated and Emmy-winning work in the documentary space, is making her first move into narrative as the director of a film on Marry Harris Jones — the hallowed labor figure known to history as Mother Jones.
Jerry Bowles and David O’Malley penned the script for the project, with Lisa Saltzman set to produce.
An Irish-born American working at various points as a dressmaker and schoolteacher, Jones pivoted her focus to union and community organizing and activism after experiencing two major, personal tragedies: the death of her husband and four children from yellow fever in 1867 Memphis, and the destruction of her dress shop in the Great Chicago Fire of 1871. The impassioned figure would come to be known as “the most dangerous woman in America” while working to secure rights for mine workers and ban child labor.

Fitness personality and television icon Jack Lalanne is getting the biopic treatment, both in nonfiction and narrative forms.
Mark Wahlberg and his Unrealistic Ideas banner will partner with Wonderfilm Media and Lalanne’s widow, Elaine, and the Lalanne family on a documentary feature and a narrative film about the fitness pioneer.
Before wellness was christened an industry and fitness deemed a lifestyle, Lalanne was an exercise and nutrition guru. After opening a gym in Oakland in the 1930s (often credited as the nation’s first fitness club), he began to evangelize the benefits of personal health, later hosting the fitness TV show The Jack Lalanne Show from 1951 to 1985. A longtime bodybuilder, Lalanne also became synonymous with his feats of strength, including, at 60 years old, swimming to Alcatraz while handcuffed.

There's an interesting new movie in development called Bigger, which tells the story of Joe and Ben Weider, who are the founders of the Mr. Olympia bodybuilding contest. As you'd imagine, Arnold Schwarzenegger will be a big part of that story since he was a part of all around the time when it first started in 1965.
The brothers, who co-founded the International Federation of Bodybuidling, discovered Schwarzenegger and encouraged him to come to the U.S. Prior to being a blockbuster action star and Governor of California, Schwarzenegger was a seven-time Mr. Olympia-title holder. Back in 1972, the Weider brothers sold a nutritional supplement, Weider Formula No. 7, that featured a young Arnold Schwarzenegger on the label.
Director George Gallo has cast the man who will play Arnold Schwarzenegger in the movie and that man is Calum Von Moger, who is 2014's Mr. Universe champion. He will join the previously cast Tyler Hoechlin...

Yesterday was a big day for Noah Hawley. Before the Fall, his fifth book — and his first since becoming the award-winning creator and showrunner of FX's Fargo — debuted to rave reviews(*) and a spot at the top of Amazon's bestseller list. And FX chose Hawley's publication date to officially order Legion — an X-Men spin-off of sorts (in the comics, the character is Professor X's son, but the show won't be connected to the films at all) starring Dan Stevens, Aubrey Plaza, Jean Smart, and Rachel Keller — to series. (*) I raced through my copy of the book — which cuts back and forth between the story of a man who survived a plane crash and the backstories of the passengers who died — then went back and reread large chunks of it again and again. It's fantastic. Part of Hawley's day involved an appearance at Word Bookstore in Jersey City, where we talked...

From Desperado to the Spy Kids franchise and beyond, Robert Rodriguez and Danny Trejo have largely become household names due mostly to the work they’ve done together.

Shout Factory recently released the entire Beetlejuice animated series on DVD. Based on the Tim Burton film, the animated series features Beetlejuice, his best friend Lydia, and their adventures in Beetlejuice’s wacky home world, Neitherworld. There are no special features, just the entire 94-episode run. Back in the late 1980s and the early 1990s, when the show originally aired, no one was thinking about DVD releases - DVDs hadn’t been invented yet. They are all on DVD, they look decent (no restoration, but again: it’s a cartoon) - that is my review.

Whether human or vampire, there’s no denying we’re all getting older. But surely there must be some way to trick the big D.
In a three-year effort to find the answer to “How to Live Forever,” inspired by the recent passing of his mother and his own maddening obsession with aging, documentary filmmaker Mark Wexler (“Tell Them Who You Are”) set off around the globe to meet the most creative geniuses of our era — with some even dating a bit earlier than that. When watching the result, be prepared for one of the most wild and provocative journeys of your life (pun definitely intended).

To nobody’s surprise, every talk show that aired Monday night kept returning to the same topic: Beardpocalypse. Oh, and also the death of Osama bin Laden. That momentous event dominated David Letterman, Conan O’Brien, and Jimmy Fallon’s monologues; the bulk of Letterman’s show was also dedicated to a lengthy interview with NBC newsman/stealth comedian Brian Williams, who discussed bin Laden’s killing with the host. Additionally, Letterman used his Top Ten list to imagine what the world’s most famous terrorist’s last words may have been. Here’s the list in full:

Just from the trailer itself, I’ve learned that living forever involves smoking, running, drinking beer, lifting your hands up to the sky, not knowing that you’re the oldest person alive, taking pills, using calipers, and being funny. The forthcoming documentary How To Live Forever is an exploration of old age both from those who have it and those who want to avoid it. It looks sharp and funny, as if Morgan Spurlock suddenly became obsessed with dying (and not dying). Director Mark Wexler looks to have created something truly touching here. Check it out for yourself: // It’s a little bittersweet to see Jack Lalanne on screen after his recent death, but over all this film looks to be playful while plumbing the rusty pipes of an age-old question. Documentarian Max Wexler has had a growing presence in his films. His first feature Me & My Matchmaker focuses on a dedicated matchmaker, but turns to include Wexler as she attempts to find his match. Next came Tell Them Who You Are, a portrait of Wexler’s cinematographer father that also explored Wexler’s wish to step out of his father’s shadow. In his latest, How to Live Forever, Wexler boldly steps into the spotlight, training the lens on himself, his fear of death, and his new found desire to live forever.
While living forever was once a thing of sci-fi fantasy, with ever-evolving science and nutrition regimes, eternity may be closer than we think. With it’s first trailer, you can get a taste of Wexler’s wild ride to immortality. Check it out below via Apple and the poster via Gatw.

Arnold Schwarzenegger paid tribute to fitness guru Jack Lalanne in a moving eulogy at the late star's funeral in Los Angeles on Tuesday.
Lalanne, who was a keen bodybuilder and owned a chain of gyms, passed away on 23 January after suffering respiratory failure due to pneumonia.
Friends, family and a number of famous faces turned out to pay their last respects to the late star in a service at Forest Lawn memorial park in L.A., and among the speakers was Schwarzenegger, who trained with Lalanne when he first moved to America from his native Austria.
The bodybuilder-turned-movie star told the congregation, "Right now he's telling St. Peter, 'Get up at 6am, get a juicer, take some vitamins, do some stretching'... Can you imagine the number of lives Jack saved? He was a true saint."
Lou Ferrigno also spoke at the service and called Lalanne "the godfather of fitness", while fellow fitness star Richard Simmons paid a poignant tribute to his late pal by ordering the crowd to put their arms in the air and stretch, adding: "That's how we honour Jack, with a big stretch".

Decades before Jane Fonda, Kathy Smith or Richard Simmons would hawk aerobic exercise to lazy television viewers, there was Jack Lalanne. Whether he was towing boats with his teeth, breaking world records doing push-ups or scolding an audience for being sugar addicts, the jump-suited Lalanne was diligently instructing home viewers of “The Jack Lalanne Show” to eat raw food, do face exercises and squeeze their own juice. Sometimes he shared the spotlight with his dog, Happy, who stole the show with every appearance. This oft-dubbed “Godfather of Exercise,” whose television fitness programs spanned...

The godfather of modern fitness, Jack Lalanne, died this week of complications stemming from pneumonia. Lalanne was responsible for a long string of events that many argue was responsible for the entire existence of the fitness movement in the United States.
He opened his first health club back in 1936, and was criticized for suggesting not only that resistance training could help fitness, but that women should do it, too. Lalanne was an extremely high-energy man and was one of the first people to publicly suggest that depression and fatigue could be alleviated with exercise. He practiced what he preached, working out daily until his health would no longer allow it. He will be greatly missed.

American baby boomers have lost another pop culture icon: the seemingly ageless Jack La Lanne has died at age 96. La Lanne was the first person to host a fitness show on American TV. His show began to be broadcast nationally in 1959. At the time, it was an innovative idea to encourage people of all ages to exercise and keep fit. La Lanne eschewed fancy equipment in favor of working with the basics. His name became synonymous with exercise and fitness and he opened the door to the countless exercise shows that now appear on international TV stations. Lalanne arrives for his 95th birthday party at the Beverly Wilshire Hotel. Photo by Toby Canham/Getty Images. Jack Lalanne was the first celebrity I ever met, though we mostly considered him kooky in my Alameda, California, neighborhood growing up. He used to walk on his hands up and down the sidewalk. He had a tacky strongman gym in downtown Oakland, across the estuary from Alameda, where those Mr. Atlas body-builder types hung out. His daughter Yvonne and I went to school together—she was very cute, with dimples and long pigtails. I remember one parents’ night at school, he and my dad reminisced about playing high-school football against each other in Berkeley. My Dad was a 6'4" tackle and Jack was 5'6". Dad told me that even in high school, Jack was known as “The Raisin Kid,” because he would tell all the boys they should eat raisins and nuts.
