Noel Gallagher is a man who always has something to say - so he should feel right at home on Match of the Day 2.
The High Flying Birds frontman and life-long Manchester City fan will join the show's regulars this weekend as a guest pundit - so consider this your 'Sunday Morning Evening Call'.
Gallagher will host a feature on his team's fixture against Newcastle United - if it doesn't work out for the Blues at the Etihad, he might be left asking 'Where Did It All Go Wrong', naturally.
The former Oasis star will also offer considered observations on Sunday's fixtures - Southampton v Liverpool, Everton v Leicester and Tottenham Hotspur v West Ham - giving him a national platform to 'Go Let It Out' (ahem).
Gallagher has appeared on BBC Sport before, interviewing former City striker Mario Balotelli for Football Focus in 2012.

The BBC apparently has plans for a theme park, rumoured to include the Doctor and Sherlock…
It sounds today like someone from the BBC is in the enviable position of playing real-life Theme Park Tycoon.
We’re hearing that BBC Worldwide has signed a deal to develop a new theme park/holiday resort in north Kent.
The park will feature "rides, interactive simulators and experiences" based on BBC properties, and, although none have been confirmed, Doctor Who (given the form of Cardiff’s Doctor Who Experience) seems like sure thing.
Something incorporating Sherlock, be it a ‘how to fake your own death’ immersive experience or an interactive case that needs cracking, is surely on some planning agendas.
Beyond that, we can only hope the BBC is planning to bring some less-family-friendly properties to their theme park, just for laughs.
Who wouldn’t want, for example, the chance to be haunted...

The mighty moustache has enjoyed a long and auspicious history in top level football, riding the lips of legends like Graeme Sounness, Chris Kamara and Rudi Voller to success, so it’s understandable when other, lesser players decide to add further ornaments to their faces.
Despite the number of moustachioed marvels who changed the shape of football history, there have been far more pretenders who have failed in their attempt to look as distinguished as Mark Lawrenson used to.
Unthinkably some legendary moustaches have fallen by the wayside, cut down in their prime by former players determined to cast off their wild man images – like Lawrenson. How cruel it is that even David Seaman has sent his iconic lip hair to the great barber in the sky.

Match of the Day celebrates its 50th anniversary this week, after launching back in August 1964 with a game between Arsenal and Liverpool.
Half a century later, after five decades of triumph and tragedy for football fans across the country, the UK's flagship football programme is still going strong and remains as iconic as ever.
To celebrate this, Digital Spy has collated its own Premier League table of Motd icons from past and present. Using a (likely contentious) points system based around football knowledge, longevity on the show and a certain 'magic factor' that makes them a warm presence on our screens, this is our just-for-fun chart of the biggest names in its history.

Andrew finds out what the latest Doctor Who trailer feat. monsters, Peter Capaldi and Jenna Coleman tells us about series 8...
Feature
Sandwiched between the final bouts of Alan Hansen punditry (why couldn’t it be Mark Lawrenson retiring?) the new Doctor Who trailer not only kept Alan Shearer off our screens for a minute, but it also had loads of sounds and images. All the better to send our brains into modes of frenzied speculation and anticipation: Capalday is coming.
The trailer suggests two things: monsters and moodiness. There are Silence-handed flame-wielding staring synth-skins, a robot in a castle (most likely from Mark Gatiss’ episode), a ginger-haired thing that spooks Clara, a woman (possibly Clara) falling through the series eleven title sequence, a horse, some explosions, some other explosions throwing new character Danny Pink off his feet, and yet more explosions wracking the Tardis.

World Cup Schedule Day 7:
Australia vs Netherlands - 5pm on ITV
Spain v Chile - 8pm on BBC One
Cameroon v Croatia - 11pm on ITV
Match of the Day: Spain v Chile
This always looked like one of the best fixtures of the first round of the World Cup, but it has even more drama heaped on it thanks to the Spanish capitulation against the Netherlands.
Many predicted that the Spanish would not be as strong as in previous tournaments, but nobody could have foreseen the thrashing they got from Robin Van Persie and co last Friday.
Chile looked strong in the win against Australia and should be riding high with confidence, so don't expect them to be playing for the draw. There is a genuine chance that holders Spain could be the first team out of the tournament by the end of the evening.

Alan Hansen bid farewell to the Match of the Day studio last night as he called time on the 2013/14 Premier League season and also his own career at the BBC.
Hansen has been one of the key faces of BBC Football for 22 years, but after one more World Cup in Brazil, the former Liverpool captain will be hanging up his punditry boots for good.
He managed to turn "shocking defending" into a catchphrase and his line, "you can't win anything with kids" - referring to a Manchester United team who went on to win the double in 1995 - still haunts him to this day.
But Hansen hasn't been universally liked as a pundit for many years. From criticisms about his hefty pay packet, to his partnership on the Match of the Day panel with Alan Shearer, there are plenty of football fans who consider him a crossed-legged cliché machine and uninspiring.

The acting legends head to the BBC's Football Focus to apply their collective soothsaying to this week's fixtures, with some odd predictions
Sylvester Stallone may have kicked his way to freedom in Escape to Victory, and De Niro briefly fielded a charity team for his Tribeca Film Festival in 2012, but two of Hollywood's biggest hitters have shown they still have a long way to go before they understand the beautiful game.
The two filmed an interview for BBC One's Football Focus, in which they predicted the results of the weekend's fixtures. There are some interesting choices. Tottenham may have lost to Arsenal last week, but are still riding high following the departure of Andre Villa-Boas and decisive defeats of Manchester United and Stoke – but Sly and Bobby have them down to lose at home to Crystal Palace, who lie third from bottom in the Premiership. Man City are predicted to lose to Newcastle,...

Robin van Persie has handed in a transfer request and wants to leave Manchester United in January – according to Match Of The Day pundit Mark Lawrenson.
Lawrenson made the claims on Sunday and said that members of the press had leaked the news to him, with the Dutchman reputedly handing in the request last Tuesday.
The former Liverpool defender said:
“One or two of the press boys that I know who cover Manchester United, they’re even saying that the big whisper is that Robin van Persie might have asked for a transfer the other night on Tuesday.”
van Persie returned to the United fold in the league defeat to Newcastle after a four-match layoff with injury and manager David Moyes had previously been dismissive when asked when the former Arsenal man would be back.

Manchester United manager David Moyes dismissed speculation linking striker Robin van Persie with a move away from the club as “absolute nonsense” following his side’s 1-0 defeat to Newcastle.
Earlier today, BBC sport’s Mark Lawrenson claimed the Dutchman had handed in a transfer request and wants to quit the club in the January window.
Van Persie has become one of United’s most important players since his move from Arsenal last summer, scoring 40 goals in 62 appearances.
However, Lawrenson claimed “he had heard” the former Gunner is unhappy with life at the champions, and had expressed these feelings by way of a transfer request Tuesday this week.
Lawrenson told radio station Today FM:
“There’s all sorts of rumors coming out of the training ground at the moment, and one or two of the press boys I know who cover Manchester United have said ‘the big...

Even the most avid Saints and Fulham fans will have to question why Sky Sports chose to air this match at the same time as El Classico. There is no glamour or glitz about it, just as there wasn’t for the visit of West Ham in September, nor was there on Monday night when the Craven Cottage outfit travelled to Crystal Palace.
Having said that, that does not make the game any less entertaining, just that from a business standpoint, there are more attractive games to show. Indeed, Fulham’s trip to Selhurst Park provided two of the best goals seen so far this season in a solid display.
Both teams will be going into this game on a high. Fulham played some great football in the 4-1 win over Crystal Palace, which turned out to be Ian Holloway’s last game in charge for Palace,...

Alan Hansen is retiring from his role as a pundit on Match of the Day.
The former Liverpool captain has featured on the BBC's football highlights show for 22 years.
Hansen said: "I've been in football for 41 years and I'm going out right at the top, just as I did at Liverpool.
"The plan was always that I would retire at 55. I kept going, but I finally decided to retire during Euro 2012."
The commentator will depart the programme following next year's World Cup in Brazil.
Reports in May suggested that BT Sport was interested in hiring Hansen, but he has decided to quit completely.
Fellow pundit Mark Lawrenson's role on Match of the Day has been reduced for the new football season.

Starting a successful career in football television broadcasting is often considered to be as difficult as actually starting a professional footballing career. Some would even say that in order to work within this industry you would need to have been a professional footballer, or at-least have some previous association to the game.
Take for example, the line-up of Saturday night’s popular Match of The Day (Motd) football highlights show, presented by Gary Lineker (Ex-pro and former England Captain), and most commonly guest presented by pundits Alan Shearer (Ex-pro), Mark Lawrenson (Ex-pro), and Alan Hansen (Ex-pro). Similarly, Sky Sports newly appointed main pundit Gary Neville has only just finished hanging up his boots at Manchester United, while his controversial predecessor Andy Gray, also began his career as a professional footballer. Andy now works as a presenter for talkSPORT.
Who Are The Real Industry Experts?
It seems almost stupid to question the rationale behind it.

It’s hard to like football these days. Well, it’s impossible not to like. Once you are sucked in, it stays with you for life. The goals, the players, the crowds, it’s something that you can never forget about once you have invested your time in it.
But there’s a difference between loving something and wanting to love something. Quite simply, you just don’t Want to love football any more. Each day, it’s something horrifying and tediously new, embellished ridiculously by the media and exaggerated until the original incident is almost completely irrelevant. Diving, racism, Twitter, referees, elbows, fouls, arguments, rows, lies, allegations. A football match is no longer a pleasure to watch. Very few games evoke a pleasurable feeling, with the ability to relax, sit back and enjoy the sport on display almost non-existent.
In the modern game, what occurs is a far more tense affair,...

Well it’s that time of year again and for the football fans out there it couldn’t come quick enough. Seeing Andy Murray make the Wimbledon final and then witnessing the Olympic extravaganza in London was a nice distraction but that’s all it was. Something to help the football withdrawal symptoms we were all going through. This summer had some nice filling but it was just a prelude to the main event. Now that we have the curtain raising Community Shield and the ridiculously timed International friendlies out of the way it is clear sailing to the start of the Premier League campaign.
It’s time to get the scarf’s out of the closet. Time to proudly wear the money spinning new strip with the name of your clubs marquee new signing on it. Time to put Match Of The Day back on the Sky+ despite Mark Lawrenson.

If you were expecting an overload of attacking wizardry from these two exciting teams, you would have been largely underwhelmed. The first 20 minutes were mainly uneventful as both teams started their Euro 2012 campaign slightly nervously. If I had to pick a better team I would go with Germany, purely because they showed more of a willingness around the penalty area with a few nice touches and first time passes.
BBC commentary’s Mark Lawrenson’s constant bigging up of each and every German player in the first half seemed unwarranted and slightly un-English, but there was always the feeling that we were waiting for both teams to loosen their shackles and show some of the flair we have become accustom to. It took 15 minutes before we saw ‘the king of step overs’ produce his footballing catchphrase, it was down the left hand side which was followed by a drilled cross...
