Emma Watson was known for sporting her long hairdo over the course of the Harry Potter movies. But after she said her goodbyes to Hermione Granger, Watson decided to sport a short pixie cut. But initially, not many felt that was a good idea.

Watson once had everyone take notice when she did away with her long locks to sport a shorter hairstyle. It turned out that Watson wanted to cut her hair from an early age, but she couldn’t because of her Harry Potter obligations. Being done with the movie series freed Watson up to tamper with her image a bit more.
“I’ve wanted to do it since I was about 16, and when Harry Potter ended in June, I just needed a change,” Watson once told Marie Claire. “It was quite symbolic for me.

Paul McCartney wrote many hit songs for The Beatles but also penned tunes that he intended to give out to other artists. These occasionally made their way onto Beatles records, even if McCartney and John Lennon wrote them with other musicians in mind. One such song was “Misery,” a ballad intended for musician Helen Shapiro. McCartney shared why writing the song was hacky of them.
Paul McCartney said a song he wrote with John Lennon was a hack job
Early in their years as a band, McCartney and Lennon wrote together and wanted to do whatever they could to get their songs play time. This included writing songs for other artists. The Beatles were touring with Shapiro, and they felt she could boost their career by singing a song they wrote. So, they penned “Misery” with her in mind.

Glenda Jackson, who segued from a successful actress — Oscars for “Women in Love” and “A Touch of Class” and two Emmys for “Elizabeth R” — into a 23-year career as member of the U.K.’s House of Commons, has died. She was 87.
Jackson died after a brief illness at her home in London, her agent Lionel Larner said. “Glenda Jackson, two-time Academy Award-winning actress and politician, died peacefully at her home in Blackheath, London this morning after a brief illness with her family at her side. She recently completed filming ‘The Great Escaper’ in which she co-starred with Michael Caine,” Larner said in a statement.
Aside from her prize-winning roles, Jackson gave terrific performances in such films as 1967’s “Marat/Sade” (as Charlotte Corday), “Sunday Bloody Sunday” and on TV in “The Patricia Neal Story,” a 1981 work about that actress’s stroke and recovery with husband Roald Dahl. A defining role in...

After watching her on TV, Paul McCartney knew he wanted to work with Mary Hopkin. By then, The Beatles had become talent scouts for their recently formed Apple Records. They were always on the lookout for bright talent.
Hopkin was one of the lucky. Paul produced her and wrote her a song that contained a certain kind of lyric he’d never used before or since.

In The Lyrics: 1956 to the Present, Paul wrote that actor Twiggy mentioned Hopkin during dinner one night. The actor asked Paul if he’d seen her sing on TV. When Paul said he hadn’t, Twiggy told him to watch her next week.
Paul did, and he thought, “Wow, terrific voice.” Hopkin was singing in a competition called Opportunity Knocks, which was like American Idol. Hopkin won.

Spanish-born fashion designer Paco Rabanne, who was best known for his metallic space-age outfits, has died in France at the age of 88 years old.
The self-taught designer broke into the Parisian Haute Couture scene in the early 1960s with a collection composed of 12 unwearable experimental metallic dresses.
His designs soon became favorites with stars and models of the time such as France’s Anouk Aimée, Françoise Hardy, Brigitte Bardot and the U.K.’s Twiggy.
He soon connected with the cinema world, designing the iconic costumes for Jane Fonda in Roger Vadim’s 1968 cult film Barbarella, which are still on display in MoMA in New York.
Other cinema credits included Roberto Enrico’s The Last Adventure and Joël Le Moigné’s Les Ponyettes.
Rabanne also created individual pieces for Jean-Luc Godard’s 1967 drama Two Or Three Things I Know About Her…, Stanley Donen’s Two For The Road and John Huston’s Casino Royale.
Rabanne retired in 1999 but his mothballed label was revived by Spanish company Puig in 2011, which relaunched it as a fashion house and fragrance business that it now controls.
“The House of Paco Rabanne wishes to honour our visionary designer and founder who passed away today at the age of 88,” the company said in a statement posted on its website.
“Among the most seminal fashion figures of the 20th century, his legacy will remain a constant source of inspiration.”...

Throughout his film career, John Carpenter was always ahead of the curve; whether finalizing the blueprint for the modern slasher or offering an ever prescient political take on alien invasions, Carpenter always seemed to be ahead of what the next big thing would be, often to decreased box office receipts. So it came as a surprise to many (myself included) that he started up Body Bags (1993), a would-be anthology series ala Tales from the Crypt for Showtime. The bigger surprise though is that it didn’t fly, because this one off is terrific entertainment.
Originally televised on Showtime on August 8th, Body Bags was met with critical approval and fans of the genre enjoyed it. However, the brass had already decided that this would be a one and done, hence the truncated anthology film format for the three segments already filmed. What a shame, because while Carpenter in front of...

It’s hard to think of a musical that would benefit more from a Blu-ray boost than Ken Russell’s kaleidoscopic all dancing, all singing send-up of theatrical clichés on the music hall stage, circa 1925. The CW just confirmed that "America's Next Top Model," arguably the most consistently entertaining reality series of the 21st century, is over. The Tyra Banks-hosted catwalk competition will end after its 22nd cycle airs. But we'll never forget the single best "Antm" moment. Forget Tyra screaming, "We were rooting for you! We were all rooting for you!" Forget the greatness of YaYa DaCosta and Eva Pigford. Forget the range of unforgettable judges, including Janice Dickinson and Twiggy. Just remember this. Remember that "Antm" physically knocked a model off a runway with a pendulum. And that the judges pretended to recoil in horror when that snafu is exaaaaactly why they staged it in the first place. Unforgettable TV. Thanks for the greatness, Tyra and crew. We know you'll make a loving, fantastic statement even though you're not here to make friends.

Glenda Jackson: Actress and former Labour MP. Two-time Oscar winner and former Labour MP Glenda Jackson returns to acting Two-time Best Actress Academy Award winner Glenda Jackson set aside her acting career after becoming a Labour Party MP in 1992. Four years ago, Jackson, who represented the Greater London constituency of Hampstead and Highgate, announced that she would stand down the 2015 general election – which, somewhat controversially, was won by right-wing prime minister David Cameron's Conservative party.[1] The silver lining: following a two-decade-plus break, Glenda Jackson is returning to acting. No one would accuse the Hollywood Foreign Press Association of being a refined institution, but when you think about the kinds of movies, TV shows, actors, and actresses who've ended up with Golden Globes, it's actually staggering how the HFPA has gotten away with maintaining its image as a must-see event. Drunk people at the dais is, I guess, still a sufficient enough reason to tune in. Let's celebrate today's nominations with a fond look back at some silly things that have won Golden Globes. 1. Unlike most of what Scream Factory puts out there, this would be my first exposure to The Doctors and the Devils. I had never even heard of the film, if I’m being entirely honest. One thing I like about the label is that every so often, they challenge my prejudices when it comes to the type of films I usually watch. I’ve always gone out of my way to avoid period movies, unless there is a really good reason to watch them. Depending on the subject matter, and the period that is being recreated, of course. Anything that takes place during the 1800s, that isn’t about Jack the Ripper, is going to have a hard time keeping my attention.

Directed by Freddie Francis, executive produced by Mel Brooks, and based on Dylan Thomas' original screenplay, this shocking horror-thriller stars Timothy Dalton as Thomas Rock, a brilliant young anatomy professor in 1820s Edinburgh. At first accepting only the cadavers provided him for study – those of a few hanged criminals per year – Rock eventually recruits two grave robbers (Jonathan Pryce and Stephen Rea) to secure a better supply of corpses.

With the return of America’s Next Top Model, we are revisiting our favorite moments, including all the winning photo shoots, from the first 20 cycles of the series. While we ranked the cycles according to Tyra Banks’ hair, we didn’t take into account of all the judges that have served on the show’s panel. Since they’ve helped Tyra decide who would become America’s next great fashion hope, it’s important to examine all 13 of them.
Note: The number one judge is and always will be Tyra herself so she was not included in this list.

Robin Williams’ long filmography has more than its share of high-profile roles—but IMDb lists 102 total acting credits stretching all the way back to 1977. (That first one? A pair of parts in something called Can I Do It ‘Till I Need Glasses?, which the site describes as “a comedy are comprised of short sexually suggestive skits.”) Williams’ triumphs (Good Will Hunting) and failures (Popeye) are well-known, but it’s worth digging through some of his less-heralded work to find the occasional gem.

The Boy Friend
Written by Sandy Wilson
Directed and adapted for the screen by Ken Russell
UK, 1971
Ken Russell pictures have a way of sneaking up on you. Many a young and not-so-young filmgoers have experienced a kind of shocked dry heave of wonderment after their first, or even seventh, Ken Russell experience. I recall a young man for whom the joy of first seeing The Devils nearly induced an anxiety attack. Talking in tongues is not altogether unlikely, either.
A maximalist by trade, and always as earnest as he is plain hyper and mocking, Russell’s musicals hold a special, especially cult-worthy place. The Boy Friend, his first musical, stands out as a novel, landmark take on musical adaptations. It stirred Roger Ebert’s more nearsighted of woeful jabs, when he called the camera work “joyless” and compared the film’s star, Twiggy, to “a Hummel figurine titled ‘Malnutrition.

Before the TV show of the same name came out in 1989, there was the Tales from the Crypt movie. A sequel to Tales from the Crypt, titled Vault of Horror, came out in 1973 and Scream Factory has announced plans to release both of these horror anthologies as a double feature Blu-ray later this year.
Appearing on Blu-ray for the first time, the Tales from the Crypt/Vault of Horror double feature is set to be released sometime this fall. So the phone rings, and I answer it, and it's Mel Brooks. That's an actual thing that happened. That's now something I can say. And even better, the 40 minute conversation that followed me answering the phone is one of my favorites in recent memory. How often do you get to talk to a comedy legend about one of the pinnacle moments of not only their career, but of film comedy in general? I was told I'd have about 15 minutes originally. Time was tight. And if you get offered 15 minutes to talk to Mel Brooks about "Blazing Saddles," you take it, right? We ended up having a really fun back and forth about that film, about films he's produced, about his partnership with Gene Wilder, and about the ways Hollywood failed the great Richard Pryor. The only reason we wrapped it up is because we had to, and it would have...

Photographer and film-maker who took some of the last shots of Marilyn Monroe
In the summer of 1962 Bert Stern, who has died aged 83, took more than 2,500 photographs of Marilyn Monroe over three sessions held in a Los Angeles hotel. The images captured Monroe in a sometimes pensive but mostly playful mood as she posed nude, variously covered by bedsheets, a chinchilla coat, a stripy Vera Neumann scarf and a pair of chiffon roses. Despite their air of carefree humour, the portraits are inescapably wistful because – along with George Barris's subsequent pictures of Monroe at Santa Monica beach – they are among the last photographs taken of the star. She was found dead at her home several weeks later.
The shoot was for Vogue, which had Stern on a contract that required him to fill 100 fashion pages a year and afforded him an additional 10 pages for personal projects. Stern proposed Monroe as a subject,...

America's Next Top Model 19.01 "The Girl Who Makes the Grade" Recap
Y'all, the casting episode of Top Model has made its triumphant return to the runway.
In recent times, the show had been trying to evolve into Top Model 2.0, a bigger, better, and battier version of itself that tossed out certain elements of formula and replaced them with...chaos and a whole lot of ridiculous. Like, even more than before and that's saying a lot. But following a ratings collapse and viewer revolt once the cycle 17 finale ended in the wonkiest way imaginable, leaving a promising British Invasion cycle on an island by its lonesome, a little bit of old Top Model has returned. Case in point: the resurrection of the casting episode, where Miss Tyra herds a group of ladies together and lets them be silly, talk about one another behind their backs, and ultimately get their stomp on down the catwalk.

Alexander, Manuel and Barker had been with "America's Next Top Model" since it started on Upn in 2003. Alexander, the runway coach, served as a judge from 2005-2009. Barker, a photographer, has been on the panel since 2004 and Manuel served as the photo shoot director since the series began. Over the years, "Top Model" has seen its fair share of judges come and go. Notable alumni include Andre Leon Talley, Janice Dickinson, Twiggy and Kimora Lee Simmons.

All you Miss J, Jay Manuel and Nigel Barker fans out there, wipe those smizes off of your faces: your favorite "America's Next Top Model" stars just got the boot.
Page Six reports that Tyra Banks has fired all three "Antm" mainstays, with word that there are “major changes planned" for Cycle 19. Tyra confirmed the changes via Twitter, as did Nigel Barker on his blog.
According to the New York Post, the modeling show's executive producer Ken Mok said in a statement:
"Nigel Barker, Jay Manuel and J. Alexander have been an integral part of the ‘America’s Next Top Model’ brand and they helped turn this show into the household name it is today. They have been amazing assets to the show and will always be a part of the ‘Top Model’ family. We will continue to actively work with each of them on future projects.

On the latest "America's Next Top Model," Tyra busts out Super Smize again, while the girls are given an awesome ad campaign challenge.
Tyra drops by the house to make the girls walk out by the pool, then have an impromptu jam session, or something. And she's wearing reflective crossing guard tape and her Super Smize and it's really, really dumb.
Tyra then assigns the girls superhero names: Illuminata, Gam-a-Tronica, Chameeleone, Era-descent, Charismia, Excite-to-Buy, Andro-Genia, Zagalicious, Fiercely Real, Next-Doorsia, Exotica and 30-Never. Some are obviously better than others.
Challenge
They have to create an ad campaign for Very.com, an online British retailer. The theme is love and luxury and it's U.S. vs. U.K. They are actually doing it all (make-up/hair, wardrobe, props, casting a male model). It's a pretty cool challenge, actually.
The UK girls go '60s mod, while the Us team does Punk Love with Azmarie as the leader.
