While fans of the Showtime series Yellowjackets (read our review of season 2 Here) patiently wait to see the bonus episode that’s going to air sometime between the second and third seasons, showrunners Ashley Lyle, Bart Nickerson, and Jonathan Lisco have let it be known that season 3 – which was, of course, greatly delayed by the strikes that hit the entertainment industry last year – is finally going to start filming in May, aiming for an early 2025 premiere!
Christina Ricci and Juliette Lewis star in Yellowjackets, which is is described as “equal parts survival epic, horror story, and coming-of-age drama.” The story centers on a team of wildly talented high school girls soccer players who become the (un)lucky survivors of a plane crash deep in the Ontario wilderness. The third season of Yellowjackets will not be premiering until 2025, Yellowjackets executive producers Ashley Lyle, Jonathan Lisco and Bart Nickerson told Deadline on the red carpet at the Emmy Awards on Monday night.
Following the writers and actors strikes that delayed production for most scripted series, the writers room for the Showtime psychological thriller reopened in September. Pre-production for the series was shut down just one day after the WGA strike began last May.

While fans of the Showtime series Yellowjackets (read our review of season 2 Here) patiently wait to see the bonus episode that’s going to air sometime between the second and third seasons, showrunners Ashley Lyle, Bart Nickerson, and Jonathan Lisco have confirmed that they and the writers that populate the show’s writing room are deep into the writing process on Yellowjackets season 3.
The show’s writers had already assembled to work on the next batch of episodes when the Writers Guild strike hit at the start of May – and that strike kept the development of season 3 on hold through the end of September. During a Q&a for SAG-AFTRA nomination committee members last night, Lyle said (as reported by Variety), “We’re deep in the writing. “Yellowjackets” showrunners Ashley Lyle, Bart Nickerson and Jonathan Lisco gave an update on the status of Season 3 during a Q&a for SAG-AFTRA nomination committee members on Wednesday night.
“We’re deep in the writing,” Lyle said, noting that the show’s writers had already assembled to work on the third season before the WGA strike resulted in a pause in production in May. But, once the strike ended in September, Lyle said “everybody came back so incredibly enthusiastic, raring to go and creatively invigorated.” Without divulging any plot details, she said, “We’re having so much fun and are very excited about it.”
The series offers a dual timeline narrative: one follows a high school girls’ soccer team who survive a plane crash in the wilderness, and the other catches up with them as adults 25 years later.

(Above, Karyn Kusama with Courtney Eaton and Samantha Hanratty of “Yellowjackets” at Variety’s TV Fest in June.)
Somehow, Season 2 of Showtime’s hit drama “Yellowjackets” managed to keep its sense of humor, even as the series’ story got darker and, yes, it finally went full cannibal. It’s all about balancing the tone, which is something executive producer Karyn Kusama helped set last season as director of the show’s pilot.
Kusama tells Variety‘s Awards Circuit Podcast that the “Yellowjackets” balance of shock and guffaw comes out of the visions of executive producers/showrunners Ashley Lyle, Bart Nickerson and Jonathan Lisco. “They’ve always understood a tone that I really love myself, which is a kind of adrenalized intense experience that sometimes makes you feel like you need to laugh because you’re so nervous.”

Last year’s breakout hit “Yellowjackets” swarmed awards season with seven Emmy nominations including Best Drama Series in 2022. The Showtime drama is looking to outperform those numbers this year by submitting 18 actors for consideration from its Season 2 cast. The Emmy ballots were officially unveiled on the Television Academy’s website on June 15, the same day nominations-round voting began (it will conclude on June 26 at 10:00 p.m.).
Most notable is Melanie Lynskey, who earned a Best Actress bid for playing Shauna Sadecki last year and currently ranks second in our odds to win the prize this time around. Cast mates joining her in the Best Drama Actress field are Tawny Cypress (Taissa Turner), Juliette Lewis (Natalie Scatorccio) and the teen version of Shauna, Sophie Nélisse.

The Yellowjackets are currently on strike, but they’re going to return with something for fans to buzz about. A bonus episode of Showtime’s “Yellowjackets” is expected to premiere before Season 3 officially premieres, showrunner Ashley Lyle has said on Twitter.
Lyle, who created the series with her husband Bart Nickerson and co-showruns with him and Jonathan Lisco, revealed the news when responding to a fan’s tweet claiming they stayed up late in the hope that a surprise bonus episode would premiere on the Showtime app.
“Noooo. Go to bed! Get some rest!” Lyle tweeted in response to the fan account. “There will be a bonus episode between seasons, but I love you guys and I don’t want y’all to lose sleep thinking it’s tonight.”
When contacted by IndieWire, Showtime declined to comment on Lyle’s announcement.

The show’s sophomore season may have been a snowcapped misery tour for its characters, but Showtime’s pitch-black drama about cannibalistic teen survivors — and their adult trauma — did not cease to shock and entertain over the course of its nine-episode run this spring.
“Yellowjackets” executive producer and director Karyn Kusama will join actress Christina Ricci and music supervisor Nora Felder at IndieWire’s annual Consider This event for a panel, this Saturday, June 3 in Los Angeles. The series clinched seven Emmy nominations in 2022, and some of the show’s biggest champions made an appearance at IndieWire’s 2022 Consider This brunch.

“Yellowjackets” fans are a dedicated group, and the finale, which included the tragic death of a key character, made some so angry that they threatened to kill one of the show’s co-creators, Ashley Lyle.
“So, I know some people really enjoyed the #Yellowjackets finale… and some people… did not (is getting death threats a showrunner rite of passage? Because i can live without that one!) But I would love to take a moment to thank everyone who came on this ride with us,” Lyle tweeted on Friday.
She added, “If it brought you joy, or made you laugh, or think, or cry, or just provided a respite from real life, that makes all the craziness feel worth while. All we can do is tell the story we needed to tell.”

This post contains spoilers for "Yellowjackets" season 2.
Given that the show has "jackets" in the title, how closely have you been paying attention to the wardrobe changes in "Yellowjackets" season 2? Eagle-eyed viewers may have noticed that a certain plaid winter coat has been making the rounds in flashback scenes, going from the back of Travis (figure-skater-turned-actor Kevin Alves) to budding teen cult leader Lottie (Courtney Eaton).
Some fans interpret the coat as a sign of Lottie's ownership, the smoking gun that proves Travis has shifted loyalties away from his first love, Natalie (Sophie Thatcher), as they continue their intermittently cannibalistic survival struggle in the wilderness. It doesn't help that Travis has been known to see visions of Lottie while making love to Sophie, or that the adult Lottie (Simone Kessell) is the person with Travis during his final moments in the present-day storyline of "Yellowjackets."

[This story contains spoilers from the seventh episode of Yellowjackets season two, “Burial.”]
Ever since Yellowjackets co-showrunner Jonathan Lisco said that cannibalism wouldn’t be the most transgressive plot point of the second season of Showtime’s hit survival series, the audience has been wondering: What could be more morally confronting than watching that Jackie feast?
The seventh episode, titled “Burial,” answered that question when it ended with Shauna (Sophie Nélisse) beating Lottie (Courtney Eaton) nearly to death. The 1996 timeline picked up after the stillbirth of Shauna’s son, and with Lottie offering herself as a literal punching bag for Shauna’s grief, which has now turned into rage. Lottie lets Shauna swing punch after punch and doesn’t resist, as the rest of the cabin stands by watching and Lottie’s face is left nearly unrecognizable from the blows. But, the fight is intercut with scenes from the present-day timeline, where all of the adult survivors have finally...

This post contains spoilers for "Yellowjackets" and discusses potentially triggering content.
By their very nature, most survival thrillers are predicated on the suspense of whether characters will prevail against the forces of nature and ultimately live through their current scenario in the wild. Showtime's "Yellowjackets" is uniquely structured in this respect, since it toggles between teen and adult versions of the same characters in the past and present. It's never in question if central characters like Shauna, Taissa, Misty, Sophie, and now, Lottie and Van, will survive past youth. Instead, the viewer is left speculating about how they did so and what exactly they lived through in order to become the dysfunctional adults they are in the present.
In the case of teen Shauna (Sophie Nélisse), ever since the audience learned that she was pregnant, the mystery of what happened to her baby had also hung over "Yellowjackets." As of...

This post contains spoilers for the seventh episode of "Yellowjackets" season 2.
After last week's "Yellowjackets" tore our hearts out and stomped on them, the latest episode provides a bit of respite for our world-weary survivors — at least in the present day. While '90s Shauna (Sophie Nelisse) was busy giving Lottie (Courtney Eaton) a pummelling, the older versions of all our favorite characters were trying to find some clarity on Lottie's (Simone Kessell) compound. For Shauna (Melanie Lynskey), that meant caring for a goat, while Taissa (Tawny Cypress) painted a wall and Van (Lauren Ambrose) went on a bender.
No one had quite as much fun as Misty (Christina Ricci), though; after spending most of the episode avoiding the sensory deprivation tank she was assigned to lay in, she finally faced the darkness, and the darkness turned out to have a lot of the old razzle-dazzle. In the show's most delightfully surreal sequence to date,...

Since the pilot episode of "Yellowjackets" where a girl falls into a pit to her death and is (likely) eaten, fans have been waiting to see exactly how the plane crash survivors succumb to cannibalism. Even though it was expected at some point, the final moments of "Edible Complex," the second episode of season 2, are deeply unnerving. Set to the raw, dissonant sounds of Radiohead's "Climbing Up the Walls," the teenage girls and Travis feverishly devour Jackie's burnt body while Coach Ben looks on from the cabin doorway, eventually turning around in horror and disgust.

[This story contains major spoilers from the sixth episode of Yellowjackets season two, “Qui.”]
Ever since Javi returned, the Yellowjackets clock has been ticking on answering the other big question from season one: What will happen to Shauna’s baby? The answer came in the sixth episode of the Showtime hit’s second season, “Qui,” which was written by Karen Joseph Adcock and Ameni Rozsa, and directed by Liz Garbus.
Garbus says she devoured the first season of Yellowjackets.
So when she got the call about directing an episode of season two, she was excited. “There was no catch up necessary,” she tells The Hollywood Reporter (in an interview that took place before the May 2 writers strike). The writers behind Showtime’s “Yellowjackets” had a very brief time back in the beehive.
The team behind the mystery thriller paused work for Season 3 following the commencement of the Writers Guild of America’s strike — after beginning the writer’s room of the season just the day before.
Ashley Lyle, who created the acclaimed show with her husband Bart Nickerson and co-showruns with him and Jonathan Lisco, shared that the writer’s room would pause work on Monday night, following the WGA’s official announcement of a work stoppage, after meeting for the first time earlier that day.
“Well, we had exactly one day in the ‘YellowJackets’ S3 writers’ room,” Lyle wrote on Twitter. “It was amazing, and creatively invigorating, and so much fun, and I’m very excited to get back to it as soon as the WGA gets a fair deal. #1u #unionstrong.”
IndieWire has reached out to Lyle for comment.

Warning: Spoilers for “Yellowjackets” season 2, episode five, “Two Truths and a Lie,” directed by Ben Semanoff and written by Katherine Kearns & Sarah L. Thompson.
When it comes to describing young Misty Quigley, the overly zealous equipment manager on the high school soccer team, Samantha Hanratty says that “a lot of her stuff is extra.” The 27-year-old breakout star adds, “She can be a very heightened human.” And what goes down at the halfway point of Yellowjackets season 2 is an example of just that, with Hanratty revealing she was “quite giddy” when she read the script for “Two Truths and a Lie,” aware of where things were headed for Misty since the beginning of the season.
During episode five, things are starting to get even more desperate for the young survivors in the past timeline. While the girls fight over what to do with Javi (Luciano Leroux), who was miraculously found...

Spoilers for "Yellowjackets" follow.
The dual timelines of "Yellowjackets," set 25 years apart, show both how a high school girls' soccer team was stranded in the Canadian Wilderness and how they cope with that experience as adults. This structure means we already know the main cast's fate, at least to a point. In season 1, the presence of Shauna, Taissa, Natalie, Misty, and Travis in the 2021 timeline confirmed they got out of the wilderness alive. Two supporting characters in the 1996 timeline, Laura Lee and Jackie, didn't show up in the present. Sure enough, it's because they're dead.
However, season 1 ended with the reveal that Lottie Matthews (Courtney Eaton) was still alive, though she was never even mentioned in the 2021 timeline. Come season 2, she's now a regular in both timelines (played by Simone Kessell as an adult). The bigger surprise in season 2 is that Vanessa "Van" Palmer (Liv Hewson) survived too. She got...

Being a part of a fandom can be an incredibly affirming experience. Sure, some of our friends and loved ones might not understand why we feel compelled to wear full cosplay and jam ourselves into overpopulated convention centers, but for those that understand our pop culture obsessions, an immediate familial bond can be forged by the power of wearing a matching T-shirt. Fans express their appreciation in countless ways, with some of the more die-hard folks willing to name their children after their favorite characters, or permanently alter their bodies by getting tattoos.
I'll admit that I'm one of those people, as all three of my tattoos are references to movies I love. Getting a fandom tattoo is a risky decision because while something might feel good at the moment, there's always the chance the creator of your favorite property might turn into the world's loudest mouthpiece for transphobia, and...

[This story contains spoilers from the fifth episode of Yellowjackets season two, “Two Truths and a Lie.”]
Yellowjackets was praised for its casting after the first season introduced characters so adeptly shared by two sets of actresses. In following the dual timelines on the hit Showtime series, the teenage Yellowjackets soccer team and the adults they become — after surviving the 1996 plane crash and 19 months in the wilderness — melded together with the teen and adult versions of Shauna (Melanie Lynskey and Sophie Nélisse), Natalie (Juliette Lewis and Sophie Thatcher), Misty (Christina Ricci and Samantha Hanratty) and Taissa (Tawny Cypress and Jasmin Savoy Brown).
The second season expanded the roster of survivors from four to six when it first introduced adult Lottie, played by newcomer Simone Kessell, in the premiere and, after a brief introduction at the end of episode four, viewers finally got to meet adult Van, played by Lauren Ambrose, when she and adult Taissa (Cypress) reunited in the fifth episode.

Today at Deadline’s Contenders TV, Yellowjackets‘ Sophie Nélisse was asked if we can expect the Showtime series’ young leads to make it out of the woods any time soon.
“Not just yet. It’s all downhill from here,” said the actress, who plays pregnant teenage plane crash survivor, Shauna. “Like, it doesn’t get any better. It just gets worse. Sorry.”

When asked by moderator Lynette Rice if the cannibalism promised in Season 1, which is finally introduced at the beginning of Season 2, is just one of the worries facing Shauna and her soccer teammates stranded out in the woods, she couldn’t say for sure. “We don’t really know,” Nélisse admitted, “but I don’t think it’s going to look pretty in Season 3.”

[This story contains major spoilers from the fourth episode of Yellowjackets season two, “Old Wounds.”]
In the latest episode of Yellowjackets, there’s an argument over divine intervention or coincidence in the 1996 storyline. The Yellowjackets soccer team and their fellow survivors are starving in the wilderness, and they argue over young Lottie’s (Courtney Eaton) role in the game that has — and hasn’t — materialized in order for them to be able to eat and survive winter.
The teammates who believe that Lottie has developed some sort of powers during their time out in the wilderness argue that the bear and flock of birds that showed up at their cabin door were fateful occurrences, brought on by their newfound spiritual leader and her blood sacrifices. The dissenters to Divine Lottie counter that those events were coincidences, and balk at the opinion that Natalie (Sophie Thatcher) and Travis (Kevin Alves) can’t find any meat because they won’t let Lottie “bless” their hunts.

[Editor’s note: The following article contains spoilers for “Yellowjackets” Season 2 up through Episode 3, “Digestif.”]
Every character is going through it in “Yellowjackets’ Season 2, whether they’re hallucinating, sleepwalking, or consuming human flesh. But in Episode 3, which deals with the aftermath of the marooned high schoolers consuming a classmate’s corpse, one character in particular seems damaged beyond repair: Coach Ben Scott (Steven Kreuger).
Ever since the plane crash — in which he lost his leg — Ben Scott became the group’s de facto authority figure as the only surviving adult. But after months without rescue and with team captain Jackie (Ella Purnell) now digesting in everyone’s bellies — everyone, that is, except Ben himself — comes a seismic yet subtle shift in the survivors’ dynamic, one in which the person who was presumably in charge, however tenuously, no longer has any interest in the role. Ben’s responsible adult exterior is cracking, and it’s only a matter of time before it breaks.

This article contains spoilers through season 2 episode 3 of Yellowjackets
After Lottie Matthews seems to becomes possessed by a sinister spirit during a seance in the first season of Yellowjackets, she has an unexplainable connection to the wilderness that the Yellowjackets soccer team finds themselves trapped in. She predicts the wolf attack that scars Van (Liv Hewson), she single-handedly tames and kills a wild bear that wanders into their camp, and she insists that Travis’ (Kevin Alves) brother Javi (Luciano Leroux) is still alive after he disappears during “Doomcoming.”
Lottie first begins to take on a leadership role in season 1, especially after Jackie’s (Ella Purnell) death. Lottie’s visions and ability to connect with the wilderness, whether truly supernatural or just a result of her lack of medication, help the survivors feel more in control of their increasingly traumatic situation. When we reunite with the young Yellowjackets at the beginning...

“Once flesh has been tasted, it’s a slippery slope,” “Yellowjackets” showrunner Jonathan Lisco told IndieWire ahead of Season 2.
That’s exactly where our characters find themselves at the top of Season 2, Episode 3, “Digestif,” written by Rich Monahan, Sarah L. Thompson, and Ameni Rozsa and directed by Jeffrey W. Byrd. After waking up in the middle of the night and consuming the cooked remains of a teammate, they must figure out how to move forward.
Refreshingly, “Yellowjackets’ doesn’t dive face first into cannibalism after the consumption of “Luau Jackie“; there’s an immediate reckoning, with each character differently handling the incident, but the girls and Travis (Kevin Alves) aren’t exactly practicing cannibals yet. The episode description on Showtime describes their current feeling as “an unusual hangover,” which is about as on-the-nose as it gets; the memories are fuzzy, the actions were maybe not entirely conscious,...

[This story contains spoilers from the third episode of Yellowjackets season two, “Digestif.”]
Yellowjackets returned after the show’s most shocking episode yet to show the young survivors’ collective hangover after their cannibalistic feast.
The third episode of the hit Showtime survival series, titled “Digesti,” opens with a reminder for both viewers and Taissa (Jasmin Savoy Brown) about what they did. “You really don’t remember? Tai, you ate her face,” says Van (Liv Hewson) to her girlfriend, who has dissociative sleepwalking episodes and is unable to remember what happens when “other Tai” takes over. Taissa then gets violently ill.
As the cast shared in an oral history with The Hollywood Reporter, the starving characters in the show’s 1996 wilderness timeline savagely feasted on the body of their dead teammate Jackie (played by Ella Purnell), after a hallucinatory sex scene involving Lottie (Courtney Eaton). The feast played out in both reality and in a bacchanal dream sequence.

[This story contains major spoilers from the second episode of Yellowjackets season two, “Edible Complex.”]
Yellowjackets released its most shocking episode yet — and the series of events that ended “Edible Complex” once again begs the question: Just how supernatural is this series?
The wilderness setting in the show’s 1996 timeline has arguably become a character in the hit Showtime survival series. In the past timeline — where the Yellowjackets soccer team’s plane crashed-landed, stranding them for what will eventually be 19 months — the wilderness is haunting several of the teenage survivors. Lottie (Courtney Eaton) has emerged as a spiritual leader who communicates with the land, Taissa (Jasmin Savoy Brown) has sleepwalking visions and the entire group became possessed (while also high on mushrooms) during last season’s “Doomcoming.”
And maybe they were possessed again in “Edible Complex,” when they made the decision to eat their dead friend Jackie (played by Ella Purnell). And maybe Lottie’s spirit appearing during the sex...

Shauna Sadecki, née Shipman, seems like the most normal of the Yellowjackets. Played by Melanie Lynskey in the present and Sophie Nélisse in the past, she's a stay-at-home mom 25 years after being stranded in the wilderness alongside her high school soccer teammates. But looks can be deceiving and Shauna is anything but harmless. There's a reason the show's creative team cast Lynskey, who excels at unhinged characters, after all. Last season, she murdered her lover Adam (Peter Gadiot) and covered it up without blinking. The season 2 premiere then revealed the young Shauna was the first of the group to indulge in cannibalism — she ate Jackie's (Ella Purnell) frozen ear.
Speaking to Harpers Bazaar, Lynskey revealed she didn't know the trajectory of Shauna's arc this season when the cameras started rolling. However, by mid-season, she sat down with the series' creators Ashley Lyle and Bart Nickerson,...

Yellowjackets has challenged Sophie Nélisse in her role as young Shauna. As many of the stars who play their adult counterparts have remarked, it’s the younger ensemble that has the harder job on Showtime’s hit survival series. And nothing makes that more apparent than the show’s latest visit to the wilderness, which puts young Shauna front and center amid that shocking fleshy feast.

A scene at the end ofYellowjackets’ latest episode was so gory that it caused several castmembers to throw up while filming it.
The hit Showtime drama returned to screens on 26 March, with the second episode in the series, “Edible Complex”, airing last night (2 April) on Paramount Plus.
Warning: Spoilers ahead for season two, episode two of Yellowjackets.
Towards the end of the previous episode, viewers caught a glimpse of Shauna (Melanie Lynskey) taking a bite of the late Jackie’s (Ella Purnell) ear, in the 1990s flashback timeline.
Episode two saw the teenagers burn Jackie’s body – or so they thought, until snow fell on the searing corpse, leaving it perfectly cooked. The show proceeded to show them gorging on the corpse out of pure starvation.
Sophie Nélisse, who plays the younger Shauna, told Entertainment Weekly: “Even though we were eating fake, like, rice paper, the image was so vivid.

As any “Yellowjackets” fan will tell you, cannibalism isn’t a spoiler.
That the titular high school soccer team winds up hunting and eating each other to survive is built into the first episode; the journey is finding out how they get there. Yellowjackets taste flesh for the first time in Season 2, Episode 2, when Jackie’s (Ella Purnell) cremation is cut short and leaves her body… cooked.
“For us, it’s never been about if cannibalism,” creator and showrunner Ashley Lyle told IndieWire. “It has always been why and how, and then what happens after that.”
Lyle and her writing team decide not to overextend the tease and approach cannibalism early in the series. Fans have been (ahem) salivating for the cannibalism reveal since Season 1, but Lyle believed that was too soon to authentically break the story.

The Yellowjackets stars who play the teen cast on the hit Showtime series have had to do some dark things out in the wilderness. But many of them weren’t quite prepared for the reactions they would have when filming the shocking feast scenes in the second episode of season two.

“I have a pretty tough stomach, and we’ve done some weird things on the show, but I will say this season got me,” says Courtney Eaton, who plays young Lottie. “I almost threw up on set one of the days we were eating Jackie.”
And, she’s not the only one.
The second episode, titled “Edible Complex,” brought the show’s cannibalism storyline to fruition when the Yellowjackets survivors, who have been stranded since their plane crash in the show’s 1996 timeline, ate the body of their dead teammate Jackie (played by Ella Purnell). Purnell reprised her one-season...

Warning: Spoilers for “Yellowjackets’ season 2, episode 2, “Edible Complex,” written by Jonathan Lisco and directed by Ben Semanoff. The young stars — Jasmin Savoy Brown, Kevin Alves and others — break down what happened in the past timeline while speaking to Et’s Deidre Behar about the Showtime series.
Following a satisfying start to “Yellowjackets” season 2, which not only brought back Jackie (Ella Purnell) but also saw Shauna (Sophie Nélisse) eating her late best friend’s ear, the second episode took things even further as the series made good on a promise first teased in the season 1 premiere.
In the present, Tai (Tawny Cypress) navigates her uneasy relationship with her estranged wife, Simone (Rukiya Bernard), Nat (Juliette Lewis) finds herself trying to understand what’s going on with Lottie’s (Simone Kessell) cult, and Misty (Christina Ricci) starts getting messages from fellow citizen detective Walter (Elijah Wood).

They say the eyes are the windows to the soul -- which is exactly why a creature without eyes can be so disturbing. What else are you supposed to look at when talking to them? How can you guess what a stranger's intentions are, or what they want from you, if you can't look at their eyes for some sort of hint? For all we know, the eyeless man in "Yellowjackets" (played by Brahm Taylor) doesn't actually have an evil bone in his body, but because he doesn't talk and Taissa's terrified of him, the odds of him being a nice guy admittedly seem slim.
So, who is the man with no eyes? Is he real, or just a projection of Taissa's own dark half? Much like "Lost," which mastered the art of the puzzle box show, "Yellowjackets" spent its first season playing around with the idea that there's some deeply supernatural stuff at play.

This post contains spoilers for the second episode of "Yellowjackets" season 2.
Jackie (Ella Purnell) is toast. Actually, perhaps it would be more accurate to say that she's roast. The resident mean girl of "Yellowjackets" froze to death at the end of the hit Showtime series' first season, but it took two more episodes for her teammates to give in to the fact that her body is technically edible and they are very, very hungry. The group finally caved in the latest episode after a funeral pyre burial for Jackie had an unintended side effect: a really tasty smoked meat smell.
When cannibalism finally came to "Yellowjackets," the camera didn't shy away from the gory details but instead got up close and personal on the girls (and Travis) as they ripped chunks of Jackie's flesh off her by then-unrecognizable body, while cross-edited scenes show the group indulging in a Dionysian feast.

[This story contains major spoilers from the second episode of Yellowjackets season two, “Edible Complex.”]
Now that the second season of Yellowjackets has answered the question around who the fuck is Lottie Matthews, the next biggest character question could be: What the heck is going on with Taissa Turner?
One of the biggest lingering mysteries in Yellowjackets surrounds Taissa and what can be described as her alter ego. The “other Tai” — as Tawny Cypress calls it — made a big appearance in the season one finale when the newly elected New Jersey state senator flashed an evil smile after it was revealed to viewers that she had sacrificed their family dog at an altar, seemingly in hopes of winning the race.
In the second season, younger Tai (played by Jasmin Savoy Brown) is having increasingly worrisome sleepwalking episodes in the 1996 wilderness. And present-day adult Tai, played by Cypress, just had a major dissociative episode where she imagined that her son paid her a visit.

Exclusive: Showtime is keeping its Yellowjackets team intact.
The network has struck an overall deal with showrunner Jonathan Lisco. The move will see Lisco continue to serve as executive producer, writer and showrunner on the hit series, alongside creators Ashley Lyle and Bart Nickerson, while also developing new projects.
The move comes after it also locked up married couple Lyle and Nickerson to a similar deal last year.
Yellowjackets is a breakout hit for the network and one of the few that is not based on existing IP. The season two premiere delivered Showtime‘s best debut for a second installment that the network has seen in more than 10 years.
That’s before we’ve even got to the fun part with episode two, Edible Complex, which features the first full-blown cannibalism episode of the show and was written by Lisco.

Spoiler Alert! This story contains plot details from episode 2 of Showtime’s Yellowjackets. Do not read unless you have watched the episode!
After young Shauna enjoyed that special Jackie snack in the premiere episode, you knew it was only a matter of time before everyone shared in on the, ahem, fun. Here, Executive Producer Jonathan Lisco — who wrote the second episode that’s been aptly titled “Edible Complex” — talks about finally filming the scene they’ve been teasing since the beginning, and what it means to the Yellowjackets going forward.
Deadline: Before we get into “Edible Complex,” I want to ask about that speech you gave at the Yellowjackets premiere in Hollywood. You talked about fear. What did you mean by that?
Lisco: I was partially talking about the feelings of going into the second season because obviously it’s this funny thing, right? You know what they say: success...

"Yellowjackets" has broadcast where the characters' journeys are heading since the very first episode. Viewers initially meet the titular Yellowjackets team after their plane crashes in the woods, eventually forcing them to resort to cannibalism. And not just any cannibalism: it's some sort of ritualized event they take part in, complete with costumes and masks and the Antler Queen (who we later learn is Lottie). The very first moments of the series show a girl being chased through the forest. She falls into a pit, trapped, and the survivors eat her.
With season two finally here, fans are still wondering who the girl in the pit is and who's the first survivor who will be eaten. Amid all this, the cast and crew of the series have stressed that cannibalism isn't the only messed-up thing that's going to happen in the show. "If we do our job right, the eating...

[Editor’s Note: The following review contains spoilers for “Yellowjackets” Season 2 Episode 2, “Edible Complex.”]
Female friendships are complicated.
On ‘Yellowjackets,” Shauna (Sophie Nélisse) loves, envies, and resents best friend Jackie (Ella Purnell) right until her untimely death while stranded in the Canadian Rockies. She goes on to marry Jackie’s boyfriend, hold on to her old soccer uniform, and during a moment of hunger, fascination, and overwhelming guilt during the Season 2 premiere — why not all three? — ate Jackie’s ear.
Unfortunately, things only get murkier.
In Episode 2, “Edible Complex,” written by showrunners Ashley Lyle, Bart Nickerson, and Jonathan Lisco and directed by Ben Semanoff, the hallucinated Dead Jackie bit starts to grow stale (no pun intended). That’s not an indictment of the storyline but a testament to its efficacy; in the show timeline, this has been going on for Two Months — two months of Shauna rearranging her dead friend’s limbs, writing her fake journal, and getting into...

Ever since the Yellowjackets pilot premiered, bookended by nightmarish sequences of its central characters ritualistically hunting and eating one of their own soccer teammates, a central question has hung over the show: when and why the hell did these seemingly ordinary teenage girls descend into gruesome cannibalism?
It’s one of the many mysteries of the Showtime series, which unfolds across two timelines: one in which a plane crash leaves the show’s titular high school soccer team stranded in the wilderness for 18 months in the late ‘90s; and another in the present-day,...

[This story contains major spoilers to episode two of season two of Yellowjackets, “Edible Complex.”]
Yes, that just happened.
Yellowjackets has been prepping its audience that cannibalism was coming, and it arrived in a big way when Showtime’s hit survival series returned to the wilderness in season two.
The premiere had ended with a shocking moment when young Shauna (Sophie Nélisse) ate the frozen ear of her dead best friend Jackie (played Ella Purnell, who returns in hallucination form). Shauna has been keeping Jackie’s corpse around for more than two months, much to the concern of her teammates who remain stranded in the wilderness since their plane crash in the 1996 timeline. Shauna agrees to move forward and they decide to cremate Jackie’s body — but the wilderness has other ideas.
Instead, while young Nat (Sophie Thatcher) and Travis (Kevin Alves) are having sex in the cabin, and Travis can’t seem to get the spiritual Lottie (Courtney Eaton) out of his head,...

The moment in "Yellowjackets" that we have all been dreading is finally coming. As we saw in its season 2 premiere, the titular soccer team has officially entered cannibalism territory, even if it's still relatively minor. Of course, we knew that this was eventually going to happen thanks to the show's great pilot episode, but that doesn't make its inevitable introduction any less stressful.
However, if co-showrunner Jonathan Lisco is to be believed, that might not be the worst thing that the girls get up to this season. That's saying a lot, but he recently told Variety in a post-premiere interview that more difficult and morally ambiguous decisions are on the horizon in the show's past and present:
"What we're trying to say is their choices are going to become more morally ambiguous — because that's what we're really interested in. You could make the argument that cannibalism is so terrible, and...

The plans for the acting submissions have changed slightly from the first season, Variety has learned exclusively.
Breakout star Sophie Nélisse, who plays the teenage version of Shauna, will now join her adult counterpart Melanie Lynskey in the lead actress drama category, with hopes of landing a nomination. The pair will be joined by co-stars Tawny Cypress and Juliette Lewis, who portray the adult version of their characters, Taissa and Natalie, respectively.
The thriller show tells the story of a girls’ soccer team as they struggle to survive in the woods following their plane crashing while on their way to a tournament.
