Being a journalist in Tampa and exclusively writing about the film industry, may seem tedious at times. Fortunately, one can find a bunch of knowledgeable people in the industry if you dig in the trenches. Trenches being the independent movie biz. That's where I met Russell Hess. Who's knowledge of the industry is vast and provocative.
His current title is producer/distributor for independent feature films. If you ask him for a job description, here's how he views his duties:
"I do what is known as packaging. Packaging is the most important part of the film process. I still have an eye for the art side, but I enjoy the business side and that is the aspect that distributors want to hear."
