ABC Family is going super dark with a possible new project. "The Hand That Rocks the Cradle," based on the 1992 film of the same name, is in early stages of production as an episodic series at the cable network.
According to a report from The Hollywood Reporter, the R-rated film will be turned into a TV series, written by Daniel Loflin ("Supernatural"). Loflin will executive produce as well, along with Ted Field (one of the film's original producers) and Mike Weber.
The story of this thriller focuses on a young and beautiful nanny who begins to dismantle and terrorize an affluent, suburban family through her job. Rebecca De Mornay and Annabella Sciorra starred in the movie, which made $88 million at the box office in its original release.
Considering the youth-oriented slant of most programming at ABC Family, it seems likely that the focus of a "Hand That Rocks the Cradle...

ABC Family is in the early stages of developing a TV series adaptation of the 1992 R-rated thriller "The Hand That Rocks the Cradle".
Rebecca De Mornay starred in the original as the wife of a doctor who killed himself after being accused of misconduct by a female patient (Annabella Sciorra).
To get revenge, she becomes the nanny to that woman's child, seduces her husband, and tries to murder her. Daniel Loflin ("Supernatural") is set to write and executive produce the series alongside Ted Field and Mike Weber.

ABC Family is developing a TV show based on The Hand That Rocks the Cradle, the 1992 thriller. According to THR, Supernatural's Daniel Loflin will write and executive produce the adaptation. The movie starred Rebecca De Mornay as a woman whose doctor husband killed himself after being accused of misconduct; she vows revenge on the woman who brought the allegations, and figures the best way to do that is to become her nanny, seduce her husband, and murder her. ABC Family does pretty well with murder shows, between its flagship Pretty Little Liars, that show's spinoff Ravenswood, and Twisted, because apparently teens love murder. Murder and SnapChat and Lorde.

The CW has released synopses for the week of February 25th, and we have the lowdown on "Cult" Episode 1.02, "In the Blood," and "Supernatural" Episode 8.16, "Remember the Titans." For some reason "The Vampire Diaries" on the 28th is a rerun of "After School Special."
"Cult" Episode 1.02 - "In the Blood" (airs 2/26/13, 9-10 pm)
Stacey Farber Stars In This Episode — Jeff (Matt Davis) enlists tech-savvy E.J. (guest star Stacy Farber, “Degrassi: The Next Generation”) to help in his search for his brother Nate (guest star James Pizzinato, “Alcatraz”). Skye (Jessica Lucas) finally reveals to Jeff that she took the researcher job on “Cult” to learn more about Steven Rae.
Meanwhile, at the production office, associate producer Peter Grey (guest star Ben Hollingsworth) brushes off Skye’s concerns that some of the “Cult” fans believe there are hidden messages embedded in the show. On the television show, Kelly (Alona Tal) and Paz (guest star Kadeem Hardison,...

Director: Nick Copus. Writer: Daniel Loflin. Cast: Jared Padalecki, Jensen Ackles, Ty Olsson, Liane Balaban, Jon Gries, Kathleen Munroe, Paul Campbell and Chad Rook. This season of "Supernatural" is showing that plenty of loose cannons are looking at Sam and Dean Winchester for support in one way or another. But that is not the case for Benny (Ty Olsson). In the episode, "Citizen Fang," he's trying to live a simple life. But that will not happen when there is a rogue vampire out to create a new nest and he wants Benny to be part of it. That includes killing some innocents along the way until Benny relents. That draws the Winchester's attention and a mentally unstable Martin Creaser (Jon Gries), an old friend of the Winchester family. In an interesting revision of how the brothers tend to treat their prey, Sam is out to kill and Dean wants to protect Benny.

Supernatural, Season 8, Episode 9: “Citizen Fang”
Written by Daniel Loflin
Directed by Nick Copus
Airs Wednesdays at 9pm (Et) on CW
A hunter, an angel, and a vampire walk into a bar sounds like the beginning of a horrible joke, but despite the possibility of it turning out to be a poor decision in hindsight, the addition of Benny to season eight of Supernatural has worked out quite well, with the one episode focused on him being one of the strongest of the season. It was inevitable that trouble would follow Benny, however, just as it was inevitable that Sam would be more critical of Benny than Dean. These factors combined meant that Benny was bound to return, and with the bar being set with his last appearance, there was a good chance this episode would be the first dud with our newest character in the focus. Fortunately, those concerns are unfounded,...

Supernatural Episode 809
“Citizen Fang”
Written By: Daniel Loflin
Directed By: Nick Copus
Original Airdate: 5 December 2012
In This Episode...
Sam has asked Martin, a hunter recently released from a mental hospital, to keep an eye on Benny, who is living in the Louisiana bayou. When a body turns up he calls Sam, who insists that he and Dean check it out. Dean resists - partly, I think, because he is afraid that Benny really did fall off the wagon - but eventually agrees. Sam, in turn, agrees to give Dean a few hours to talk to Benny and see what’s up. Martin is very upset by this.
Dean finds Benny at a fishing hole - burying a second body. He insists that this is not his doing. A headstrong vampire named Desmond (side note: is that not the douchiest vampire name ever?) has decided he is going to put together...

A lot of "Supernatural" fans are tired of all the flashbacks to Sam's domestic woes. While the last ep seemed to close the door to there being many more of them, we did get our hands on an alternate version of one flashback we're pretty sure won't be showing up on The CW anytime soon!
Check out below our own Andrew Kasch's take on what Sam Winchester has really been thinking about these past several weeks, and be sure to tune in this coming Wednesday night for the mid-season finale, "Citizen Fang":

We get where the power-that-be are going with all the flashbacks they're incorporating in this season of "Supernatural," but it's starting to get tedious. Here's hoping next week's mid-season finale, "Citizen Fang," stays a bit more current.

Note: Do not read on if you have not seen Season 8, Episode 8 of The CW's "Supernatural," entitled "Hunteri Heroici."
Apparently, laughter really is the best medicine. It's fitting that an episode of "Supernatural" so devoted to helping a tired old man face reality also helped two of our characters come to terms with their own sense of purpose, and "Hunteri Heroici" managed -- as many of the show's best episodes do -- to effortlessly blend humor and pathos into one satisfying, if surreal, concoction.
The last episode, "A Little Slice of Kevin," dealt with Dean's skewed perception of reality, since his misplaced guilt over "abandoning" Castiel in Purgatory was dramatically affecting the way he viewed the world and himself. With Castiel's return and his revelation about what really happened when Dean escaped, Dean seemed to be in a much better place this week, opening up to Cas and expressing how...

With the return of Castiel, last night's episode of "Supernatural" was the most satisfying yet this season. Here's hoping the trend continues in Episodes 8.08, "Hunteri Heroici," and 8.09, "Citizen Fang," airing 11/28 and 12/5, respectively.

*there are spoilers below. Director: John Showalter. Writers: Andrew Dabb and Daniel Loflin. Cast: Jared Padalecki, Jensen Ackles, Misha Collins, Mark Sheppard, Osric Chau, Ty Olsson and Lauren Tom. Mother knows best in CW's latest episode of "Supernatural." In ""What's Up, Tiger Mommy?" Mrs. Tran (Lauren Tom), Kevin's mother, shows that she can stand for herself, make some very tough decisions, and show that she has a mean right hook. To see this series explore Kevin's family connections and develop this character even further is great, but it is sadly short-lived. By the episode's end, the Trans take a hike. For viewers interested in Kevin Tran's (Osric Chau) journey, that tale will one day continue. In what gets revealed so far, Kevin is nothing like his mom and maybe dad—if he ever gets featured. To see what the entire Tran family is like as a cohesive unit could be interesting.

I'm of two minds about this week's "Supernatural," which did some things spectacularly, and dropped the ball on others. I'm still trying to decide whether the good outweighed the bad, because the episode didn't leave a bad taste in my mouth, but also didn't seem as cohesive as last week's premiere.
I find that I often have trouble with scripts written by Andrew Dabb and Daniel Loflin (although they did pen one of my favorite episodes, "Frontierland") since the pair have a habit of telling instead of showing, generally lacking the nuance of writers such as Jeremy Carver and Ben Edlund, who seem to trust their audience to keep up with them without the need to telegraph things so dramatically.
Nuance and tone are the key words I usually...

It can’t be easy being the prophet.
Kevin Tran has to have this lifestyle forced upon him, whereas Sam and Dean were born into this life. Like Sam, he has no obligations to live this life, I mean, not only does he put his life into danger, he also puts those he loves right in the thick of it, too. Late in the episode, Crowley correctly states that the Winchesters do in fact use up people until they’re dead (see: Ellen and Jo, Rufus and Bobby) it’s no surprise that Kevin takes his mother and bolts. The life of a Hunter is a tough one, that’s been made clear throughout the entirety of Supernatural’s run. Even putting aside the fact that both Winchester brothers were pulled into the life by otherworldly forces that had no regard for the collateral damage that occurred in their attempts to accomplish their goals, Hunters such as Bobby, Ellen and Jo, and Gordon have also suffered losses because of their vocation. But they’re not the only ones- many people who have unwittingly become possessed by demons, or even consented to angelic possessions, have ended up worse for the experience, with the collateral damage of the vessel’s death being an unavoidable part of killing a demon. The "Supernatural" Season 8 premiere is creeping closer, and a recently released promo clip has given us a tantalizing glimpse of what we can expect when the Winchesters return to our screens on October 3.
Said promo also seemed to hint at a dramatic demise for Castiel (Misha Collins), but since Dean (Jensen Ackles) didn't actually say he saw the angel meet an untimely end, we're keeping an open mind. In any case, The CW has just released photos from the second episode of Season 8, entitled "What's Up, Tiger Mommy?" which feature Castiel alive, if not entirely well. He, Dean and Benny (Ty Olsson) look to be having a bloody good time in Purgatory (emphasis on the bloody), while in the present day, Dean and Sam (Jared Padalecki) run into their old nemesis Crowley (Mark Sheppard) while on the hunt for another of the stone tablets supposedly containing the word of God.

The prophet Kevin isn't going anywhere on Supernatural this coming season. In fact, according to the preview for season 8, he's rather instrumental to the storyline. When the Winchesters are reunited after a year apart, they decide to track down Kevin, who tells them about the existence of another tablet...one that has the potential to close the Gates to Hell forever. It's a race to the finish against Crowley and his demons to get their hands on this tablet.
In the October 10 episode, titled "What's Up Tiger Mommy", Kevin's mother gets in on the hunting action. According to the official CW synopsis: "Mrs. Tran Joins Sam And Dean On The Road — Kevin (guest star Osric Chau) talks Sam (Jared Padalecki) and Dean (Jensen Ackles) into checking in on his mother (guest star Lauren Tom). Director: Guy Bee. Writer: Andrew Dabb and Daniel Loflin. The stakes are high, and nearly everyone in Heaven and Hell is invested in seeing the Leviathans fall in "Supernatural’s" episode, “There Will Be Blood.” While those particular forces are doing nothing (to put themselves in danger), the Winchesters are doing everything. The brothers have a recipe to create a weapon that can kill the Old Ones, as they were once called. That also includes summoning up some old familiar faces from the roster and asking for a favour or two. Crowley (Mark Sheppard) makes for a great return appearance, and Dick Roman (James Patrick Stuart) finally shines as the calculating villain that he is. In the opening act, he gives audiences a knowing look by breaking the fourth wall. Very rarely will this technique be praised, and it's a beautiful touch by director Guy Bee, before the series title splashes on screen.

Supernatural Episode 722 "There Will Be Blood" Written By: Andrew Dabb & Daniel Loflin Directed By: Guy Bee Original Airdate: 11 May 2012 In This Episode... Roman has Kevin, and the tablet. He also has Kevin's mom as leverage: translate the tablet or mommy dies. Kevin gets cracking. Roman has been busy as well. His company recently bought out the biggest producer of high fructose corn syrup, and has been lacing food with their Kool-Aid. The Winchesters are trying to figure out the weapon. It seems pretty obvious to me, but Bobby gives them a little push. They need blood from a fallen angel (Castiel), blood of fallen humanity (Crowley) and...

This week, on Supernatural: Bobby moves towards the Dark Side, Dick writes one hell of a letter of recommendation, and Dean has to eat healthfully
The strong narrative drive present in the previous few episodes continues this week as Sam and Dean continue to formulate their plan to take down Dick. These are definitely characters who work better when they have a task ahead of them and the series benefits from this immensely. As the episode begins with the guys in possession of only one of the four necessary components of the Leviathan weapon, it’s somewhat surprising that the entire episode is devoted to obtaining only one of the three they’re missing. Though there’s much talk of the...

Note: Do not read on if you have not seen Season 7, Episode 22 of The CW's "Supernatural," entitled "There Will Be Blood."
A TV season is a marathon, not a sprint, but I'm concerned that "Supernatural" is starting to show signs of fatigue as it nears the finish line. The show is assured an eighth season and an injection of fresh blood when veteran writer Jeremy Carver comes back on board as showrunner, but I still want to see Season 7 go out with a bang instead of a whimper.
Last year's two-part finale narrowly avoided fizzling out in such a manner; I thought that Episode 21 was uneven and Episode 22 was downright dull until the final few minutes, at which point it pulled itself sharply out of its nosedive and left us with one hell of shocking cliffhanger to obsess about over the summer hiatus. Am I confident that this year's finale will wow us?...

Supernatural 7.22 Spoilers: Will An Alpha Appear? Plus, Sam & Dean Get Help From Their Friends

Director: Mike Rohl.
Writers: Andrew Dabb and Daniel Loflin.
The clock, as well as this season, is running haywire in "Supernatural’s" latest episode, "Plucky Pennywhistle's Magical Menagerie." Here, Sam and Dean have to deal with some strange magic where half the story is told in flashback. The jumping around is fine as a narrative structure, and if that is supposed to mean something, not many viewers will think it’s related to the fact that the Winchesters are still a fixed point in time even when they are miles apart.
With this episode, Sam has to face his darkest fear alone. Dean has to contend with a silent avenger—with his own set of problems—who may be lurking about in Plucky’s, a Chuck E. Cheese-style entertainment parlor.
With this episode, the emphasis is more about character development than the lackluster comedy. The brothers are obviously being prepped for the grand finale.

Laura Prudom: 'Supernatural' Recap: Sam Faces His Fears In 'Plucky Pennywhistle's Magical Menagerie'
Note: Do not read on if you have not seen Season 7, Episode 14 of The CW's "Supernatural," entitled "Plucky Pennywhistle's Magical Menagerie."
Choosing to follow a mythology-based or emotionally heavy episode with a light, frivolous one is the "Supernatural" way, and your enjoyment of said filler episode is generally dependent on whether you're a fan of the monster-of-the-week format or wish that the show could be all plot, all the time. I typically fall into the latter category, as a rule, although there are obvious exceptions: when the silly episodes are just so well-written or have such great brotherly moments that you can't help but get swept up in them.
I'd say that the alliteratively-titled "Plucky Pennywhistle's Magical Menagerie" fell comfortably in the middle of the heap. It didn't have the originality of "Frontierland," but it was no "Mannequin 3," either. Writers Andrew Dabb and Daniel Loflin seem to find their groove in these quirky,...

I typically fall into the latter category, as a rule, although there are obvious exceptions: when the silly episodes are just so well-written or have such great brotherly moments that you can't help but get swept up in them.

Our beloved Bobby Singer may indeed be gone, but in his place we have exec producer Robert Singer in this week's preview of "Supernatural" Episode 7.14, in which he introduces us to the local pizza emporium for children, a place of lots of games, joy, and mysterious deaths.
"Supernatural" Episode 7.14 "Plucky Pennywhistle’s Magical Menagerie" (2/10/12 Air Date; 9:00-10:00 Pm):
Clowns, Unicorns, And Sharks, Oh My! — Sam (Jared Padalecki) is forced to confront a childhood fear when a case takes him and Dean (Jensen Ackles) to Kansas to investigate Plucky Pennywhistle’s Magical Menagerie, a local pizza chain that hosts children’s birthday parties.
Sam and Dean discover that the victims’ children had recently been to the restaurant and drawn a picture of their worst fear, which then came to life to kill their parent.
While Dean confronts the man behind the magic, Sam is left to deal with some very angry clowns.

Director: Tim Andrew.
Writers: Andrew Dabb & Daniel Loflin.
These days, CW’s "Supernatural" is more interested in going back to basics with a monster-of-the-week and inserting the prerequisite meta-episode, “Time for a Wedding,” in before the mid-season comes to a close. The series has a divine storyteller, a person by the name of Chuck Shirley (Rob Benedict) who is chronicling the life and times of Sam and Dean Winchester—which may also include what is happening in season seven with the Leviathans.
Becky Rosen (Emily Perkins) must have tracked down Shirley in order to find where Sam is these days. And with the help of a Crossroads Demon, she is out to win Sam’s heart at a price. That does not bother her. A good part of the episode is for viewers who can put up with the character of Becky. The problem is not because she is obnoxious...
