The flagship version of VidCon will return to the Anaheim Convention Center on June 21, 2023. It will be the second-straight in-person edition of VidCon Anaheim after two years of Covid-related setbacks, and online video bigwigs will flock to Orange County to join the festivities. The full list of speakers who will participate in the convention includes execs from top platforms like YouTube, TikTok, Twitch, and Snap.
As per usual, the VidCon experience will be split across Industry, Creator, and Community tracks, each of which caters to its titular group. Based on the latest batch of confirmed guests, here’s what attendees can expect across all three tracks:
Industry Track
After TikTok served as the title sponsor for the 2022 edition of VidCon Anaheim, YouTube has reclaimed that distinction heading into 2023. The Google-owned platform will have a major presence on the Industry Track. Its Vice President of Product Management, Amjad Hanif, will deliver the Industry Track keynote.

Last year, LinkedIn launched its first Creator Accelerator as part of a 25 million investment in its community. Now, that program’s second class has been announced, and it includes some online video luminaries.
Jim Louderback, who previously served as the CEO of VidCon and the Revision3 network, will take part in the initiative. He’ll be joined by Night Media CEO Reed Duchscher, Mashable founder Pete Cashmore, Twitch Head of Games Bill Young, and Avi Gandhi, who took over as Patreon’s Head of Creator Partnerships last year.
In total, 120 creators will benefit from LinkedIn’s support through the Creator Accelerator’s workshops, meetings, and sessions. That’s an increase from the 100 creators who made up the program’s initial cohort. Those inaugural Creator Accelerator participants have used the tutelage they receive to expand their presence on LinkedIn. VidCon is set to return to Anaheim this summer, but in the meantime, it's forging onward with VidCon Now -- a virtual iteration of the convention that launched last summer.
Beginning next week, VidCon Now will introduce two new monthly series -- both of which will live within its ‘industry’ programming track. (VidCon also creates content targeting 'creators' and members of the online video 'community' at large).
The first series, bowing Feb. 9, is titled VidTalks and will see VidCon general manager Jim Louderback discussing trending topics in the digital landscape with industry experts and top creators. The pilot installment will feature Louderback in conversation with Breakr co-founders Anthony and Ameer Brown. The two brothers will discuss their startup, which links up influencers with musicians for promotional purposes, and which has recently garnered investments from two Sway LA-affiliated TikTok stars: Josh Richards and Griffin Johnson.

Like so many businesses in the Covid-19 era, VidCon is facing an existential reckoning head-on, after being forced to cancel all of its Irl gatherings in 2020 in favor of a series of summer streams dubbed VidCon Now.
And while the company has announced that in-person conventions are returning in 2021 -- including expansion via its first-ever VidCon Brazil event in São Paulo -- VidCon is also pursuing a hybrid business model going forward, comprising physical gatherings and year-round digital programming. This comes in light of the success of VidCon Now, VidCon Gm and SVP Jim Louderback tells Tubefilter, which attracted 1 million unique viewers across roughly 150 virtual panels, workshops, and meet-and-greets.
One key component of VidCon's digital strategy going forward is its newly-launched Discord server, where VidCon has been hosting ask-me-anythings (AMAs) with top creators and industry strategists each week.

VidCon, a decade-old, fan-centric convention for online video creators, plans to hold an in-person edition of its annual event in Anaheim, CA, in the summer of 2021.
For the first time, VidCon will offer digital ticketing options, offering live streaming of fan-focused sessions and on-demand access to industry and creator workshops, panels and keynotes. California, of course, has some distance to travel in terms of Covid-19 in order for large gatherings to be held safely and legally. In 2019, the 10th annual edition at the Anaheim Convention Center was attended by 75,000 people and featured 120 exhibitors.
Along with the Southern California news, the ViacomCBS-owned VidCon introduced a rebrand and also said its virtual platform, VidCon Now, will become a year-round part of the company’s offerings.

VidCon’s annual Anaheim convention, which had been scheduled to take place this week, was canceled because of Covid-19.
In place of the in-person confab, VidCon is launching a weekly programming series — accessible for free — that will include virtual concerts and performances, panel discussions, Q&As, online “meet and greets,” and other interactive events.
The VidCon Now series kicks off on Saturday, June 20, to be followed by new programming each week Tuesday through Saturday throughout the summer, the ViacomCBS-owned company said.
The first two weeks of the virtual convention, sponsored by YouTube, will feature VidCon co-founders John and Hank Green, former Twitter executive Bruce Daisley, Ben Network CEO Ricky Ray Butler, and creators including Emma Chamberlain, Brent Rivera, Calle & Poché, Nathan Davis Jr., James Charles, Eugene Lee Yang and Jasmine Gonzalez.
Other digital creators participating in VidCon Now are slated to include Gigi Gorgeous, Jacksepticeye, DreaKnowsBest, Ambers Closet, Miles McKenna and Vanessa Brasfield.

From its modest beginnings in a Los Angeles hotel basement to this week’s 30,000-strong online-influencer extravaganza swallowing the mammoth Anaheim Convention Center, VidCon has seen a few changes since its low-key 2010 launch.
What's A Viacom-Owned VidCon Look Like?
But for all VidCon's past transformations, this year’s show might see the most changes ever. To begin with, this winter, founders and pioneering YouTube influencers Hank and John Green sold VidCon to cable-tv Viacom. The Greens also stepped back, and the show’s long-time content advisor Jim Louderback, a former tech editor and CEO of video site Revision3, took over as CEO (his title pre-acquisition) and Gm (his title post-acquisition).
I thought the VidCon acquisition was a canny one by the long-slumbering Viacom. New CEO Bob Bakish has aggressively reshaped the company after years of neglect by his predecessor. Bakish’s recovery plan focused on six core TV brands,...

Vidcon CEO Jim Louderback promises that this year’s annual online video confab won’t become a corporate branding exercise for Viacom after it acquired the conference last February.
“We were both really clear during the sale that they didn’t want to change us and we didn’t want to be changed,” Louderback said in a phone interview. “Because if you do that, you’re going ruin it.”
Expected to draw 35,000 people, the event is in its ninth iteration and will take place at the Anaheim Convention Center June 20-23. It has evolved into a massive multi-day event featuring panel sessions for industry leaders and content creators, digital stars, fans, numerous parties and even a concert by Marshmello, the American DJ and electronic music producer. That’s a far cry from the conference’s more meager beginnings in a ballroom at a Century City hotel with just 1,400 attendees.

Facebook is increasing its presence this year at VidCon as the annual convention in Anaheim has emerged as the epicenter of the digital video scene.
For the first time, two of the social media giant’s executives, Instagram co-founder Mike Krieger and Facebook Vice President Fidji Simo, will participate in a fireside chat, talking about the future of video with Ami Dunn McClure, 35, Nigerian mother of the McClure twins who’ve become social media phenomenons.
VidCon’s Jim Louderback said the show, started in 2010 by the Vlogbrothers, John and Hank Green, has long been associated with YouTube and the ascendency of user-generated content.
The conference, which kicks off Wednesday night with a festival concert and continues through Saturday at the Anaheim Convention Center, is seeing broader participation from other digital platforms.
Livestreaming platform Twitch is joining this year for the first time as a sponsor and Snap taking part in panel discussions.

Despite being the first-ever VidCon under the auspices of new owner Viacom, organizers of the world’s largest online video convention insist that the attendee experience won’t differ from past iterations in any way when it opens its doors in Anaheim, Calif., later this month.
The only difference this year, VidCon CEO Jim Louderback concededto The Hollywood Reporter, is that that Viacom's brands have purchased more booth space on the event’s ground floor -- which likely would have happened even if the acquisition hadn’t occurred, he says. To this end, Viacom-owned MTV will host its first-ever booth at the ninth annual Vidcon, complete with a Cribs activation. Meanwhile, Nickelodeon, Comedy Central, and Bet will be privy to meetings with top digital creators -- another perk that VidCon offers select sponsors.

VidCon, the flagship online video convention founded by vlogger brothers John and Hank Green in 2010, is reportedly close to being acquired by media conglomerate Viacom -- which owns Paramount Pictures, Bet, MTV, and Nickelodeon.
Variety, which was first to report the still-in-the-works transaction, notes that VidCon would continue to exist as an independent company, retaining its existing offices and leadership team -- including CEO Jim Louderback, who assumed the helm from (soon-to-be published novelist) Hank Green last August. A deal could be announced later this week, though no terms have been disclosed.

Viacom is close to acquiring VidCon, TheWrap has learned from multiple people with knowledge of the deal. Jim Louderback, who was named VidCon CEO in August, will stay on to run the company, we’re told. The acquisition of the annual online video conference is part of Viacom’s larger push into influencer marketing. The Bob Bakish-led Viacom purchased WhoSay last month under the same effort. Agency UTA helped arrange the Viacom-VidCon deal. This year’s U.S. VidCon is scheduled for June 20-23, 2018 in Anaheim, California. VidCon Europe will take place from March 22-24, while the Australian version is set for Sept. 1-2. Also...

VidCon, the yearly conference that serves online video creators and their fans, has a new man in its chief executive position. Jim Louderback, who has run VidCon's Industry Track for its past three iterations, will take over for Hank Green as the organization's CEO.
In his new position, Louderback will take charge of VidCon's day-to-day activity. In addition to its annual gathering at the Anaheim Convention Center in Southern California, the company has also expanded its profile through conferences in Europe and Australia. For the past seven years, Jim Louderback has worked at the top of the Revision3 as an instrumental figure in the multi-channel network's growth. Now, Louderback has announced that he is moving on. In a post on his personal blog, he announced his departure from Revision3 and Discovery Digital Networks, stating that "seven years is long enough for just about anything." Under Louderback's watch, Revision3 grew from a niche startup into a prosperous network with a particular focus on tech content. This growth culminated into Revision3's 2012 sale to Discovery, where it now resides alongside other specialized verticals like TestTube and Animalist. Louderback stayed with the company after its sale and earned a new title as the Gm of Discovery Digital Networks. He has spent the past two years integrating Revision3 into its new home and expanding its presence under the Discovery banner. Louderback's most immediate plans involved his own self-actualization.

Regular viewers of SourceFed may have that Ross Everett, one of the channel's main hosts, spend a couple months away from the offbeat news program. We have now learned that Everett's hiatus gave him time to work on a new project he is launching alongside Discovery Digital Networks' Revision3 network. Everett will be the host of The New Show, a daily program that will combine the general feel of a late night TV talk show with the offbeat and irreverent soul of the Internet. Revision3 CEO Jim Louderback has claimed that "this show is going to rock," and we decided to go straight to the source for some more information. Ever since its acquisition of Revision3 back in May 2012, Discovery Communications has been on a tear in terms of launching independent, online video verticals. First there was TestTube, a repository of series like Nature Hates You, Pick Your Poison, Fail Lab, and more, all of which are “designed to ignite online audiences who are incurably curious about the world around them.” Next came Animalist, a destination that Head of Discovery Digital Networks, Jim Louderback explains as being for all types of viewers with an affinity for furry, scaly, slimy, and other such fauna “wether you identify with an animal’s instinctive nature – to hunt and fight for territory, or you identify with that innocent and trusting relationship between us and them.” And now there’s Sci2, a digital extension of Discovery Communications’ Science Channel “for the science-minded audience that is hungry for the most engaging, mind-blowing content online.” The destination...

Less than five months ago, Revision3 launched TestTube, a sub-network that combined the video archive and influence of Discovery Communications with the talent of an online multi-channel network. TestTube has been an instant hit, with several fascinating channels and series from the likes of Tory Belleci and I F**king Love Science under its belt. Discovery is following up the success of TestTube by organizing another group of Revision3 channels into a sub-network of their own. It's called Animalist, and you can probably take a good guess as to what its theme is. “Cats riding donkeys defined the early days of animal videos on the ‘net but today’s viewers want much more, and we’re bringing it to them with Animalist,” said Jim Louderback, head of Discovery Digital Networks. “Whether you identify with an animal’s instinctive nature – to hunt and fight for territory, or you identify with that...

Revision3 has pulled off a significant business move that will strengthen its relationship with one of the most popular creators in its network. Jim Louderback, the CEO of new media studio and distribution network Revision3 (which is also the object of Discovery Channel’s recent affections), was in New York this week and swung by our Multi-Screen Mix-Up for a casual Q&A with an excellent facilitator of compelling conversations about the online video industry. (Editor’s Note: That facilitator was me.) We discussed the genesis of Revision3, what kind of programming the company creates, how it works with a wide variety of uber-popular YouTube stars (from Epic Meal Time to Phil DeFranco), the amazing response online video viewers have to its advertising techniques, and why Discovery makes for a great partner. Here’s a trio of key takeaways: Revision3’s advertising has crazy recall rates. 99% of individuals who watch Revision3 programming are able to name a Revision3 sponsor. And what’s more, over 50% of those individuals who watch Revision3 programming are consumers of Revision3’s sponsors’ goods.

Revision3 may be in acquisition talks with the Discovery Channel. Rumors are a-flying after TechCrunch reported that a deal between $30 million and $40 million could close as soon as this week. Although Revision3's revenues are not publicly disclosed, the company has reported 53% growth of ad-based revenue in 2011, and a video view increase of over 350% to 800 million views, thanks in large part to key Revision3 talent acquisitions with sizeable audiences, like Epic Meal Time,TechnoBuffalo, and Soldier Knows Best Recent partnerships with The Philip DeFranco Show and Vin Di Bona's Cute Win Fail. It’s not a sure thing just yet, but seems to be pretty close. I’m told that Discovery Communications would pay around $30M for the San Francisco-based, ad-supported online video network. It distributes and markets short programming devoted to special interests including gaming, tech, and entertainment. Execs believe that Revision3 would enhance Discovery’s online presence — and possibly its programming. Some of Discovery’s TV shows could be edited to work on the site, and some of the Web productions on Revision3, which are shot in HD, might be adapted or expanded into more conventional programs for cable channels such as Discovery, Animal Planet, and TLC. Founded in 2005, Revision3 generates about 100M views per month according to web site TechCrunch which disclosed the negotiations. About 72% of its viewers are between 18 and 34. If the deal goes through, the plan is to keep Revision3′s management in place under CEO Jim Louderback.

New media studio and “special interest video network” Revision3 just released its 2011 year-end status report by way of a blog post from CEO Jim Louderback. And while the 800 million views the network’s content garnered in the last calendar year amount to something just shy of 1% of the views YouTube sees on a monthly basis, the company appears to have had a helluva year. Those 800 million views across the Revision3 network amount to a 359% increase over the 2010 numbers, thanks in large part to key Revision3 talent acquisitions with sizeable audiences, like Epic Meal Time, TechnoBuffalo, and Soldier Knows Best. (The company’s latest addition, The Philip DeFranco Show, was brought on too late to be factored into the 2011 view counts, but should definitely lead the network to even bigger viewership gains in 2012.) Revision3 viewers also accumulated more of those 800 million views by way of mobile and "lean back" viewing (which...

Jim Louderback is a vocal critic of the current state of ‘views’ in online video. In a guest column in AdAge today, Louderback, who’s also the CEO of Revision3, continued to lambast the industry for rampant misrepresentatation of viewership counts on videos. The worst culprit of all? The dreaded embedded autoplay. “And recently I’ve come to find the off-site—or embedded autoplay—as a particularly heinous malodorous video view,” he writes. “Why? Because many embedded autoplay videos often get streamed to pages that have zero content relationship to the video served, and often play below the fold with audio turned off.” The timing of this conicides with TubeMogul releasing today an updated version of their “What Counts As a View” study that breaks down the varying threshold of the major video sites. The overall conclusion was that the views threshold has in fact become less stringent that their original 2008 study.

Revision3 is trying to branch out from its tech-heavy roots. The self-proclaimed "leading television network for the internet generation" was built on a solid foundation of techno-geekery, architected by Digg co-founder, Kevin Rose and TechTV and PC Magazine alum, Jim Louderback. Shows like Tekzilla and Diggnation speak to the online network's core of savvy, connected fanboys and have built up a sizable following, but Revision3 is always looking to expand into other verticals comprised of niche, impassioned communities. Enter the latest web series on Revision3's programming slate, AnimeTV. Hosted by former Black Power Ranger, Johnny Young Bosch and Cristina Vee (both of whom are established anime voice actors) the show covers the world of "anime, manga, and Japanese pop culture." In each episode, a handful of well-manicured, twentysomething Nipponophiles explain and debate the merits and demerits of recent anime and magna offerings, as well as interview movers and shakers within the industry.

I have one of these scrappy, nondescript $99 boxes sitting on top of my underused Apple TV. So far the Linux-based interface is light, but the real winner has to be its deftly simple clicker. That, and Roku might have found the sweet spot at $99, much less than Netgear's pricey $179 option. For the most part, Roku's swift sales, which were recently quoted in the "multiple hundreds of thousands" of units, are closely tied to the rollout of Netflix's popular streaming movie service.
