Peacock’s Vampire Academy TV series was a delight for many fantasy horror audiences. With its original release from September 15 to October 27, 2022, Vampire Academy was an excellent welcoming for the 2022 Halloween. Developed by Julie Plec and Marguerite MacIntyre for Peacock, the series was based on Richelle Mead‘s six young-adult paranormal romance novels published from 2007 to 2010. Although it isn’t the first on-screen adaptation of the novel (a 2014 film was released with the same name), the series took a unique approach in adapting all six novel series. Besides enjoying mostly positive reviews from the book fans...

It looks like Vampire Academy will remain staked after Peacock canceled it in January.
Executive producer and showrunner Marguerite MacIntyre shared an update on the efforts to find a new home after the cancellation.
Since the cancellation, MacIntyre has remained optimistic that the show could return in some capacity.
However, the latest update is somber as the former Vampire Diaries star said she "doesn't see any avenue" forward to keep the show alive.
"I have been wanting to say this for a very long time," MacIntyre said in a video posted on Twitter.
"Again, thank you for all your love for the show."
"Thanks for the incredible support. Thanks for you sticking with us through a lot of thin lately."
She continued, "I don't have good news. I don't see any avenue forward."
"And I just feel like now is the time to say I'm sorry about that; it wasn't for lack of trying.

It’s disappointing news for fans of Vampire Academy, as the show’s executive producer and showrunner Marguerite MacIntyre said she “doesn’t see any avenue” forward following the Peacock cancellation. Based on the novel series of the same name by Richelle Mead, Vampire Academy was co-created by MacIntyre and Julie Plec and premiered on September 15, 2022. However, it was canceled back in January after just one season. MacIntyre, who previously remained hopeful of landing a new home for a second season, has provided an update for fans, and, unfortunately, it’s not positive. “I have been wanting to say this for a very long time,” MacIntyre said in a video posted on Twitter. “Again, thank you for all your love for the show. ‘The Vampire Diaries’: Sheriff Forbes’ Death Paralleled a Tragic Death in ‘Buffy the Vampire Slayer’
The Vampire Diaries and Buffy the Vampire Slayer were both shows that featured supernatural beings. However, there might be more similarities than most viewers realize. Some of the storylines were eerily comparable.
It turns out that Sheriff Forbes’ death in The Vampire Diaries paralleled a tragic death in Buffy the Vampire Slayer.
The devastating death of Sheriff Forbes in ‘The Vampire Diaries’
Millions of fans were emotional when Sheriff Forbes died in The Vampire Diaries. Liz Forbes was a fan favorite as the sheriff of Mystic Falls and Caroline Forbes’ mother.
According to Fandom, Sheriff Forbes was adamant about helping the supernatural group in any way she could. Despite being initially shocked when finding out her daughter is a vampire, she eventually comes to terms with it and loves Caroline for who she is after learning more about the supernatural world.

One of the most beloved characters from The Vampire Diaries is Caroline’s mom, Liz Forbes. She was initially introduced as the Sheriff of the vampire-ridden town of Mystic Falls and stayed on the force until her death in season 6. But considering she failed to be a good cop, it’s safe to think that Liz Forbes should have lost her badge in season 1.
In ‘The Vampire Diaries’ Liz Forbes tried her best to keep Mystic Falls safe
Liz Forbes (Marguerite MacIntyre) is introduced in the first season of The Vampire Diaries. She’s the Sheriff of Mystic Falls and the mother of Elena Gilbert’s (Nina Dobrev) best friend, Caroline Forbes (Candace Accola). She grew up in Mystic Falls. And as a member of the Town Council, she’s aware of the growing vampire threat.

Vampire Academy and One of Us Is Lying were instances of good shows, bad timing, the head of Peacock content has explained in the wake of the YA series’ recent cancellations.
Late last month, Peacock cancelled the teen mystery drama One of Us Is Lying — which was based on Karen M. McManus’ book of the same name — after two seasons, and on the same day decided that Vampire Academy, which Vampire Diaries Universe vet Julie Plec and Marguerite MacIntyre adapted from Richelle Mead’s book series, would get no Season 2. Almost exactly one year ago today, it was announced that the Peacock streaming service had given a straight-to-series order to the zombie show Dead Day, on which original Scream screenwriter Kevin Williamson would serve as co-showrunner with his The Vampire Diaries co-creator Julie Plec. But now Variety has discovered that Peacock will not be moving forward with Dead Day after all. Thankfully, they are letting Williamson and Plec shop the series around to other outlets. Here’s hoping Dead Day will be able to find a new home.
If Dead Day ever makes it into the production, the show will follow an ensemble of characters as they navigate the annual “dead day,” when for one night the dead come back to complete unfinished business — be that to celebrate a night back on earth or to torment the living.

Peacock has opted not to move forward with creators Julie Plec and Kevin Williamson’s planned adaptation of the comic book series “Dead Day,” exactly one year to the day after the streaming service announced the project.
Variety reports that despite the streamer’s straight-to-series order last January, Peacock is no longer moving forward with the adaptation.
The outlet revealed that “the studio is planning to shop ‘Dead Day’ to other outlets. Peacock had bought the series preemptively, so this will mark the first time it has been shown to other buyers.”
Based on the bestselling AfterShock comic-book series created by Ryan Parrott, the comic book adaptation would’ve seen creators Julie Plec and Kevin Williamson serving as co-showrunners, writers and executive producers.

“Vampire Diaries” creators Julie Plec and Kevin Williamson’s planned adaptation of the comic book series “Dead Day” is no longer moving forward at Peacock, Variety has learned exclusively.
The move comes despite the fact the show was ordered straight-to-series at the NBCUniversal-owned streamer back in January 2022. Plec and Williamson were to serve as writers, executive producers, and co-showrunners on the series, with Universal Television producing. Plec remains under her overall deal at Utv, which she signed in 2020. According to an individual with knowledge of the situation, the studio is planning to shop “Dead Day” to other outlets. Peacock had bought the series preemptively so this will mark the first time it has been shown to other buyers.

There are six novels in author Richelle Mead’s Vampire Academy book series, plus a spin-off series called Bloodlines that also consists of six novels. Unfortunately, the live-action adaptations of this source material don’t have much luck. Back in 2014, the movie Vampire Academy (watch it Here) was released to theatres, and not many people really seemed to care to see it, or to like the movie if they did see it. According to Rotten Tomatoes, only 16 of the film’s reviews were positive (our own Chris Bumbray gave it a 2/10 review), and according to Box Office Mojo it made just 15.6 million dollars worldwide. Years down the line, the Peacock streaming service attempted to bring Vampire Academy to screens in the form of a TV series… and now Deadline reports that the Vampire Academy show has been cancelled after just one season.

Peacock, the home of the new slasher movie Sick and the upcoming Friday the 13th series “Crystal Lake,” has announced this week that they’ve cancelled “Vampire Academy,” a new series based on Richelle Mead’s line of same-titled books. The drama-horror series had only opened up for business this past September, and it’s gotten the axe after just one season.
Deadline explains, “Deadline understands that execs at Peacock were happy with both shows creatively but they just didn’t find the requisite audience to justify further seasons.”

The TV world is filled with many successes and many duds.
That especially rings true for the Science Fiction/Fantasy genres, as they are very easy to mess up.
Luckily, 2022 brought us a lot of high-quality entertainment under the umbrella!
From HBO to Netflix, there were a bunch of different Networks that aired these high-quality series.
Check out what made our list below!
House of the Dragon (HBO)
The first Game of Thrones spin-off to see the light of day started slow, but our patience was rewarded in the second half of the season.
A deep-dive into the downfall of House Targaryen made for a more focused narrative than the original series.
The casting was on point, and we don't think any other show comes close to it in terms of production values.
The second season should be even better now that the Dance of the Dragons is underway.

In fairness, Mia did not intentionally help the strigoi attack. She merely got kidnapped, and was used as a bargaining chip for the strigoi to free her recently-turned sister Sonya. This, of course, comes immediately after Mia finds out that her own father allowed Sonya to use her spirit powers to heal him multiple times, eventually leading the darkness to consume her, resulting in her turning strigoi. And on top of that, Mia’s got a budding relationship with Meredith to worry about, especially since Meredith keeps trying to spend time with her to no avail. It’s a lot.

At this point, Julie Plec is pretty synonymous with vampires on television. From “The Vampire Diaries,” to now showrunning Peacock’s “Vampire Academy,” she’s got a bit of a lock on this particular sub-genre of fantasy — but that was never the intent.

And I really believe in, you know, earning my keep and I really believe in and maximizing my own potential,” Plec told TheWrap earlier this year. “And so it turned out to be quite a lot of television, without me even really meaning to. Welcome back to the coolest supernatural school. Fifteen years after the first book in Richelle Mead's beloved series was released, the Vampire Academy TV series finally premiered Sept. 15 on Peacock. Created by The Vampire Diaries and Legacies' Julie Plec and Marguerite MacIntyre, the teen drama follows two girls—one a Royal vampire and the other her half-vamp protector—as they navigate friendships, romances and typical teen problems at St. Vladimir's Academy. Of course, they also have to deal with a deadly threat to vampire society. While Vampire Academy received a movie treatment in 2014 that massively changed elements of Mead's story, fans can expect the new series...

(Spoilers ahead for the series premiere of Vampire Academy on Peacock.) The series premiere of Peacock's Vampire Academy threw book fans for a loop, and that's exactly what co-creators Julie Plec and Marguerite MacIntyre intended. As revealed in the episode's dramatic opening sequence—which showed the deaths of several of the Dragomir family in a car crash—the show is set before the events of author Richelle Mead's book series of the same name. And as a fan of the books herself, Plec was excited to flesh out more of the Vampire Academy universe. "We realized there's a whole season worth of great opportunity right here just in the past," she said in an exclusive...

An adaptation of Richelle Mead’s Vampire Academy novels is heading to streaming TV. Here’s how you can enroll with the Peacock service to catch all the supernatural (and romantic) action.
Hailing from from executive producers Julie Plec (The Vampire Diaries, The Originals) and Marguerite MacIntyre (The Originals), Vampire Academy promises a story of friendship, romance and danger. In a world of privilege and glamour, the friendship between two young women — Rosemarie “Rose” Hathaway and Vasilisa “Lissa” Dragomir (played by Sisi Stringe and Daniela Nieves) — transcends their strikingly different classes as they prepare to complete their education and enter vampire society.

To (extremely) paraphrase Benjamin Franklin: nothing is certain in storytelling but love, death, and vampires combining the two. In the last 30 years, give or take a “True Blood,” some of TV’s most popular interpretations of one of the world’s eldest mythic creatures have tended to lean toward the teenaged variety, whether plucky and battle-scarred (“Buffy the Vampire Slayer”) or moody and yearning (“The Vampire Diaries”). Now, Peacock’s “Vampire Academy,” from “Vampire Diaries” co-creator Julie Plec and “The Originals” producer Marguerite MacIntyre, combines all the above into one package that ends up intriguing enough, if also unavoidably cheesy in its attempts to stand out amongst the fray.
With the help of a somber, blunt opening explanation, the series immediately throws us into a centuries-old society of three co-existing vampire species: the magic “Moroi” aristocrats, the half-Moroi, half-human “Dhampir” tasked with protecting them, and the feral “Strogoi,” more zombie than vampire,...

The Vampire Diaries franchise may be over, but the show’s creator, Julie Plec, isn’t done with creatures of the night. Plec paired with Marguerite MacIntyre, who played Sheriff Forbes in Tvd, to adapt the Vampire Academy novels for the small screen. The fruits of their labor premieres September 15 in Peacock‘s Vampire Academy, starring Daniela Nieves and Sisi Stringer as Lissa Dragomir and Rose Hathaway, two supernatural best friends destined to shake their royal vampire society to its core. But don’t let Plec and MacIntyre’s resumes fool you: this series won’t look like Tvd franchise. That’s mostly because Richelle Mead’s books created a vampire world quite different from others in the genre. Vampire Academy has significant elements typically unseen in these bloodsucking tales. For example, Nieves and Stringer’s Lissa and Rose have a sisterly bond. Lissa is a royal Moroi vampire, who...

Each of the first four episodes of Vampire Academy, the new YA series from creators Julie Plec and Marguerite MacIntyre, opens with a quick sequence outlining the three principal roles that characters occupy. The first are the Moroi, vampires who have magical Elemental powers, but are basically powerless to defend themselves. Then there’s the Strigoi, who are Moroi that have turned evil and adhere to characteristics that audiences traditionally associate with vampires such as bloodlust and aggression. Finally, there are Dhampir guardians – half Moroi/half Dhampir who have sworn to protect the Moroi from the Strigoi.
If that primer is confusing, Vampire Academy only gets more convoluted from here. The 10-episode Peacock adaptation of Richelle Mead’s bestselling fantasy romance series is overstuffed, overcomplicated and often nonsensical, especially in its first half.
We open at a party that introduces Lissa Dragomir (Daniela Nieves), a Royal Moroi, and her best friend Rose Hathaway,...

Vampires have been big money since Twilight changed the dynamic of the bloodsucking monster from aristocratic old European men into hunky guys with great hair and sexy women with…great hair. For the last decade, vampires have been the central focus of many television series, namely The CW series The Vampire Diaries and The Originals. With those series off the air, Peacock is bringing a new adaptation of the popular book series Vampire Academy to their service. Created by Vampire Diaries showrunner Julie Plec and actress Marguerite Macintyre, Vampire Academy is a much different take that the 2014 feature film version.

Peacock has released a trailer for the new series "Vampire Academy," based on the bestselling young adult novel series of the same name by Richelle Mead. The new series about St. Vladimir's Academy for vampires -- which will serve as a reboot -- comes to us from some people very familiar with the genre; Julie Plec ("The Vampire Diaries") and Marguerite Macintyre ("The Originals") will serve as showrunners and executive producers, with Plec also directing.

Peacock‘s Vampire Academy has all the staples of the vampire genre: timeless romance, bloodthirsty creatures, supernatural gifts. But one thing it doesn’t have? Humans. Yes, other than to feed, humans play no meaningful role in this world. Rather, Vampire Academy depicts the waning social hierarchy of this royal vampire society.
