Christmas comes early this year, as “Journey to Bethlehem” puts words (and music) in the mouths of all who bore witness to Jesus’ birth. Some of those tunes — like “Silent Night” and “O Come, O Come, Emmanuel” — will sound familiar enough, though most of the songs — like most of the script — represents a fresh interpretation of believers’ original miracle, courtesy of Adam Anders, making a competent, if undistinguished directorial debut with the least edgy retelling of the nativity story around (which is essentially what the faith-based audience has been asking for).
One half of the duo behind the music for “Glee,” Swedish-born Anders comes to the project after more than two decades of penning and producing songs for boy bands and Disney Channel artists, including the Backstreet Boys (“More Than This”), Nick Lachey and the Jonas Brothers. He was instrumental in the soundtracks of big-screen musicals “Rock of Ages” and “The Prom,...

After the sudden collapse of Silicon Valley Bank last week, it’s perhaps worth noting that with the failure of tech-sector lenders and startups alike, an entire constellation of associated industries suffers as well. The pain trickles down throughout the community, impacting the likes of the Pakistani-American small business owner and his family at the center of Imran J. Khan’s 90s-set feature Mustache.
Although such a scenario might not appear to be entirely amusing, Khan finds the humor in hardship when his 13-year-old Muslim protagonist is forced to readjust his life after his parents make a difficult decision about his education. While not a typical teen comedy, Mustache approaches the genre from a perspective that’s gently humorous and refreshingly clever, even if it’s quite a bit tamer than mainstream fare.

The feature debut of editor and short filmmaker Imran J. Khan, Mustache is a grounded coming-of-age story bursting with authenticity, even if the film feels at times like a retread of other awkward high school experiences captured in cinema. With a dry, competitive tone, Mustache accurately captures the emotion of being right in the middle of a problem that feels like an insurmountable, life-changing challenge for a child.
Atharva Verma stars as Ilyas, a Pakistani teen growing up in San Jose whose main issue is that he sprouted a mustache at age ten, leading to some awkward class photos at his Islamic grade school. He’s thrown out after 8th grade when he starts a fight and his scholarship is pulled. Thus his working-class parents, former artist mother (Meesha Shafi) and computer salesman father Hameed (Rizwan Manji), decide to send him to the local public high school to start his freshman year,...

Eugene Levy starred in Schitt’s Creek for six seasons with the show wrapping up in 2020. After almost three years since the show’s finale, some fans have not lost hope of a possible revival.
Levy, who co-created the sitcom with his co-star son Dan Levy, recently said to “never say never” about revisiting the Rose family.
“I know my son Daniel has said this, we’d love to get together with these people again and take the show and the characters to yet another level,” Levy told Radio Times.
He continued, “There’s nothing in the works right now to be honest, but you know, we’ve never stopped thinking about what might happen down the line. We’re certainly open to anything, I think when the idea that is the right idea presents itself we’ll probably act on, I guess.”

“I once thought that there were no second acts in American lives,” F. Scott Fitzgerald famously wrote, in his notes on The Last Tycoon. To which Cher Horowitz in Clueless would say: “Ugh, as if!”
Nearly 30 years after she spoke those iconic lines, we are witnessing the second act in the career of Alicia Silverstone.
Her Super Bowl ad for shopping platform Rakuten, where she slipped back into Cher’s yellow tartan skirt to recreate the Clueless debate scene, went viral (as did her first TikTok appearance, again as Cher, spoofing the “as if!” scene with her son Bear), returning Silverstone to the top of the pop culture conversation.

Vertical Entertainment has unveiled an official trailer for a sex comedy titled The Donor Party, opening this March in theaters and on VOD. After a messy divorce, she decides to enlist the help of her best friends to help pull off the ultimate sperm heist on unsuspecting "donors" during her friend’s intimate birthday party! Who's ready for some awkward fun? The comedy stars Malin Akerman, with Rob Corddry, Erinn Hayes, Bria Henderson, Dan Ahdoot, Rizwan Manji, Ryan Hansen, and Jerry O'Connell. Yeah this looks super uncomfortable but also quite funny? Might be worth a watch. // Continue Reading ›...

When "Shazam!" hit theaters back in 2019, it was a breath of fresh air not only for the DC Extended Universe but for superhero media as well. While it obviously did have a big world-defining conflict that Billy Batson (Asher Angel and Zachary Levi) had to deal with, it was ultimately a coming-of-age tale all about becoming comfortable with yourself. You are able to create the best possible version of yourself, and that is perhaps best evidenced by the fact that Billy and his foster siblings can now fight crime as the Shazam Family.
So, where does that leave our heroes to go next? According to the latest trailer for "Shazam! Fury of the Gods," this puts them right in the path of the Daughters of Atlas, a sisterly duo consisting of Hespera (Helen Mirren) and Kalypso (Lucy Liu), who seek nothing but total power. This past summer, Disney and ABC announced that they would be celebrating the beloved animated film "Beauty and the Beast" with a TV special produced by "Crazy Rich Asians," "In the Heights," and "Wicked" filmmaker Jon M. Rather than commemorate the ground-breaking feature's 30th anniversary (which was last year), the two-hour hybrid animated/live-action special will celebrate the anniversary of the movie's Academy Award nomination for Best Picture. "I can think of a million ways to make this more fun." Creator+ has revealed an official trailer for an indie romantic comedy titled Diamond in the Rough, a perfectly cheesy name for a cheesy film. It's available for streaming now on their new Creator+ content service (first time we've even heard of it). Recent college grad Ariana Alvarez, played by Samantha Boscarino, is given a chance to turn her life around when she joins a stuffy country club complete with a hopelessly hot caddy. Drawing on her spunk, irreverence, and copious amounts of street-honed charm, Ariana battles prejudice, antiquated rules, and worst of all—mean girls—in order to shine through as a diamond in the rough. The rest of the film's cast includes Griffin M. Johnson, Caitlin Carver, Rizwan Manji, and David Koechner. This pretty much looks like Mean Girls set at a country club, nothing much else...

Peacemaker explores the continuing story of the character that John Cena reprises in the aftermath of Gunn’s 2021 film “The Suicide Squad” – a compellingly vainglorious man who believes in peace at any cost, no matter how many people he has to kill to get it. The first three episodes of the DC spin-off series premiered Thursday, January 13 and runs through February 17.
While Gunn wrote all eight episodes of Peacemaker and directed five, including the first, it’s the 5th episode titled “Monkey Dory” that has become the standout story of the first season.

Peacemaker Episodes 1, 2, and 3
Peacemaker, the HBO Max spinoff of James Gunn’s The Suicide Squad, reminds viewers of it cinematic origins right from the start.
Before even one new minute of the new TV series has aired, Peacemaker takes some time out for a “previously on” segment, bringing the show up to date with the events of the 2021 movie featuring DC Comics characters. Ruthless government suit Amanda Waller (Viola Davis) introduces Christopher Smith a.k.a. Peacemaker, a peace-obsessed jingoistic beefcake whose father trained him to kill from the moment he was born. We then see brief flashes of Peacemaker’s whole arc from the 132-minute film – from joining the titular Suicide Squad to killing dozens of criminal goons in Corto Maltese to murdering leader Rick Flag (Joel Kinnaman) on Waller’s orders to being near-lethally shot in the neck by Bloodsport (Idris Elba).

"This task force doesn't officially exist." HBO has unveiled another new red band the Peacemaker series, streaming on HBO Max in a few weeks. While finishing The Suicide Squad movie last year, James Gunn began writing a spin-off TV series centered on the origins of "Peacemaker", portrayed by John Cena. This picks up exactly where that leaves him, and continues when he returns home as a disgraced "hero" of sorts. The origin of the DC superhero so dedicated to world peace that he is prepared to use any and all force of arms to achieve it. The series cast includes Cena returning, with Steve Agee, Danielle Brooks, Robert Patrick, Jennifer Holland, Freddie Stroma, and Chukwudi Iwuji, plus Lochlyn Munro, Annie Chang, Christopher Heyerdahl, Elizabeth Ludlow, Rizwan Manji, and Nhut Le as "Judomaster". The cast includes Cena returning, along with Steve Agee, Danielle Brooks, Robert Patrick, Jennifer Holland, Freddie Stroma, & Chukwudi Iwuji, plus Lochlyn Munro, Annie Chang,...
