Even though Season 4 nabbed “Barry’s” lowest nomination tally at the Emmys, it still sustained double digits with 11 bids, including Best Comedy Series, as part of HBO’s total of the most noms for a network at 123. Read on for a closer look at Barry’s 11 Emmy nominations for Season 4.
In the comedy series race, “Barry” is the only HBO program competing. With 11 nominations, it is tied with Hulu’s “Only Murders in the Building,” and is surpassed in sequence by Netflix’s “Wednesday” at 12, FX’s “The Bear” at 13, Amazon Prime Video’s “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel” at 14 and...

“Everyone is a little depressed,” admits one of the residents of Longyearbyen, the remote town profiled in Darren Mann’s entertaining documentary recently given its world premiere at Toronto’s Hot Docs. And they have a right to be, given that Longyearbyen — the northernmost town in the world, located north of Norway and some 300 miles from the North Pole — endures three months of total darkness as well as similar periods of 24-hour sun, and the temperature can reach 40 degrees below. Oh, did I mention that its roughly 2,200 citizens are outnumbered by polar bears? It’s no wonder many...

It’s impossible not to be impressed by the folks at the SoundWorks Collection. Time and time again, they find great projects to feature and highlight one of the most atmospherically impactful elements of modern film: sound. In a time when we’re talking Oscar for a unique film without sound (The Artist), it’s also important to continue to celebrate the incredible work that goes into engulfing us with audible stimuli. In this particular instance, they feature Supervising Sound Editor Lon Bender’s work on the throbbing world of Nicolas Winding Refn’s Drive. Combined with the incredible Clint Martinez (which Allison featured as part of Aural Fixation a few weeks back). Through this behind the scenes featurette, you get a look at what it took to move back and forth between the moments driven by score and the moments driven without score, a perfectly balanced effort.
