Ryan Murphy is not one to shy away from many things. This even includes casting names not normally known for acting, such as Lady Gaga’s early crossover role when she made her appearance in the FX series, American Horror Story. Recently, Murphy even cast Kim Kardashian in a later season of American Horror Story, who isn’t the most popular figure, given the amount of exposure she’s received for years. Murphy would drop a teaser for his upcoming horror drama for FX, which you can watch below, and Deadline has reported that Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce will be making his Hollywood debut in Grotesquerie.

Travis Kelce continues his push into Hollywood, scoring a role in Ryan Murphy’s FX horror series Grotesquerie.
Grotesquerie star Niecy Nash-Betts confirmed Kelce’s involvement in the show in an Instagram video posted on Tuesday. Although details on the show are scant, Nash-Betts along with Courtney B. Vance and Lesley Manville are among the announced castmembers.
No details have been revealed on what role Kelce will be playing. In February, Murphy dropped a teaser for a new series titled Grotesquerie in an Instagram post. The cryptic teaser features Nash-Betts’ voice, sounding very disturbed about a crime scene.
Kansas City Chiefs star Kelce, who is having something of a pop culture moment due to his relationship with Taylor Swift and his team winning the most recent Super Bowl, has been increasingly upping his off field entertainment work and even dabbling in the dramatic arts. Upon sweeping the four main drama acting categories at the 2021 Emmy Awards, “The Crown” stars Olivia Colman, Josh O’Connor, Gillian Anderson, and Tobias Menzies all joined a special roster of lead or supporting TV academy honorees who were not part of their shows’ original casts. As members of the expansive Netflix series’ second of three distinct ensembles, this quartet and their co-stars were replaced ahead of season five by a new group of actors, some of whom could be added to said exclusive winners club later this year.
According to Gold Derby’s odds, the performer from the sixth and final season of “The Crown” with the best shot at Emmy glory is supporting female frontrunner Elizabeth Debicki. Exclusive: The independent investigation into bullying and misconduct allegations at revered London drama school ArtsEd has been delayed by three months.
Ghazaleh Rezaie, the barrister engaged to investigate claims uncovered in a series of Deadline stories, was expected to report back to the board with her findings in March.
The attorney has now informed the drama school, where Andrew Lloyd Webber holds the honorific title of president, that she will not conclude her work until late June.
In an email to parents, ArtsEd’s acting chair Farida Mannan said: “I would like to inform you that the date for the publication of the public statement, with a summary of the conclusions for the Rezaie investigation, has been extended to 28th June 2024.”
Mannan did not articulate reasons for the delay, but Deadline understands that the review has been more complex than originally anticipated and Rezaie is examining allegations that date back years.

It may not be hitting theaters in North America until next month, but the Amy Winehouse biopic "Back to Black" is off to a solid start at the box office overseas. The film opened in the U.K. and Ireland this past weekend, and it managed to top the charts in the territory, coming in ahead of Alex Garland's "Civil War," which topped the domestic charts with a $26 million debut, as well as "Kung Fu Panda 4." It's an impressive start, but how will the film fare when it arrives in the U.S. in May?
Director Sam Taylor-Johnson's "Back to Black" topped the U.K./Ireland charts with $3.36 million (£2.7m). That was above "Kung Fu Panda 4," which was in its third weekend in the territory, while "Civil War" had to settle for third place. Given that Winehouse is a London-born artist, it's not necessarily a shock...

Sam Taylor-Johnson’s Back to Black begins in Camden Town, in north London, where a teenage Amy Winehouse (Marisa Abela) flourishes in a family full of musicians. The most important influence on her is her nan, Cynthia (Lesley Manville), from whom she inherits her vintage style and love of jazz. We first see Amy taking to the stage in a local bar to perform “Stronger Than Me,” a song mocking her then-boyfriend for his lack of machismo with regrettable lines like “Feel like a lady, and you my ladyboy” and “Are you gay?”
It’s a triumphant night, with Amy crooning happily while the crowd laps it up. While it’s hardly a scandal that an 18-year-old wrote some dumb lines about a guy she was sick of, it’s more than a little regressive for a 2024 movie to show them off in such a positive way. Regardless, the song...

Nick Cave and Warren Ellis have shared their “Song for Amy” from the new Amy Winehouse biopic Back to Black.
The Bad Seeds duo also composed the score for the film, but the swirling ballad “Song for Amy” features vocals by Cave, who croons on the track, “You needn’t care what they say / I’ll still love you anyway / Love kills everything / Just to take it away.”
“Nick and Warren were the only musicians in my mind to score Back to Black,” director Sam Taylor-Johnson previously said of working with Cave and Ellis.

In a very unsettled drama Emmy field, one of the few ostensible locks this year is Elizabeth Debicki. With 4/1 odds, she is the runaway favorite to take home the Best Drama Supporting Actress Emmy for her turn as Princess Diana on “The Crown,” which would make the Netflix series the sixth show to deliver two different winners in the category.
Twelve shows have won drama supporting actress more than once. Of those, seven shows have had one person triumph repeatedly, including “Lou Grant” for Nancy Marchand, who won a record four times, and most recently “Ozark” for three-time champ Julia Garner. The five shows that saw the wealth spread among its cast members are “St. Elsewhere”, “The West Wing”, “Hill Street Blues”, “The Practice” and “thirtysomething”. No show has had more than two cast members win the award.

For anyone who witnessed her tumultuous rise to fame and eventual fall from grace, it’s clear that Amy Winehouse was truly one of a kind. A diamond in the rough that not only needed to be handled with kid gloves, but one who also craved love and attention from all the wrong people. Her sudden death at the age of 27 in the summer of 2011, while not entirely unexpected, was still a huge shock for most of us.

When Sam Taylor-Johnson started working on her Amy Winehouse biopic, Back to Black, she asked screenwriter Matt Greenhalgh to listen to one of Winehouse’s tracks, “Tears Dry on Their Own,” before he started writing. “I kept saying in those early days, ‘I feel like this song is our path to understanding her,’ ” Taylor-Johnson says.
In the deceptively upbeat single about Winehouse’s tumultuous relationship with her on-again, off-again love, Blake Fielder-Civil, she sings, “It’s my responsibility/And you don’t owe nothing to me.”
For Taylor-Johnson, 57, that line spoke to something largely misunderstood about Winehouse, the English singer who died of alcohol poisoning in 2011: Just 27, she left behind an outsize cultural impact. Winehouse’s defining album, Back to Black, sold more than 16 million copies worldwide, and her unique mix of jazz and soul with punk-era defiance would go on to influence artists like Adele, Lady Gaga and Billie Eilish.

“Back to Black,” the 2006 album that the new Amy Winehouse biopic takes its title from, is a record built on an exquisite contradiction. The music has a crispy delicious retro-bop bounce, a quality that extends to Winehouse’s voice, which takes the growling-cat stylings of jazz legends like Sarah Vaughan and Billie Holiday and kicks them up into something playfully ferocious. Yet when you tune into the lyrics, they’re as dark as midnight. “Rehab,” the album’s showpiece track, must surely be the jauntiest song ever recorded about an addict who turns the refusal to help herself into a stance of rock ‘n’ roll defiance.
At its best, “Back to Black,” the forthright and compelling movie that’s been made of Winehouse’s life, takes that light/dark balance and digs into the drama of it, making it sing. The film’s snaky on-and-off power begins with the British actor Marisa Abela,...

Exclusive: Ryan Murphy is quickly expanding his footprint on ABC. The network has given a straight-to-series order to his Dr. Odyssey, with Joshua Jackson set to play the lead and executive produce. The drama, targeted for a fall launch, hails from 20th Television in association with Ryan Murphy Television.
As is the case with any Ryan Murphy series, no details about the premise are being revealed. As the title suggests, Dr. Odyssey is believed to be a medical procedural. According to sources, it is set on a cruise ship. That was the setting for this season’s disaster-themed opener of Murphy’s procedural 9-1-1 in its debut on ABC, and it also harkens back to TV classic The Love Boat.

Nick Cave and his longtime collaborator Warren Ellis have teamed up to score the forthcoming Amy Winehouse biopic Back to Black.
Cave and Ellis composed “about 20-30 minutes” of music for the film’s score. Additionally, Cave has contributed a new song called “Song for Amy” that will appear on the soundtrack.
“Nick and Warren were the only musicians in my mind to score Back to Black,” said director Sam Taylor-Johnson in a statement. “Over the years I’ve listened to everything they’ve composed and longed to realize the dream of working together. Their sensibility as well as understanding of this story has led to a profoundly deep and moving film score.”
The soundtrack also includes six songs from Winehouse, as well a five songs from artists who inspired her, including Billie Holliday and The Shangri-Las. It will be released on May 17th.

The BAFTA TV Awards nominations are out for 2024 and, while Netflix is winning headlines after strong showings for The Crown and Black Mirror, there were some snubs and surprises.
Black Mirror’s strong showing is perhaps among the eyebrow-raisers after Charlie Brooker’s dystopian anthology series received mixed reviews and has not exactly been generating awards buzz.
The Netflix drama, now in its sixth season, garnered seven nominations for Demon 79, five of which were in the BAFTA Television Craft Awards, including best drama writer for Brooker and Bisha K. Ali.
The episode, in which a demon instructs a mild-mannered sales assistant to go on a killing spree, is up for best limited drama, while star Anjana Vasan is a surprise runner in the leading actress race.

“The Crown” could well bow out in style on home soil, with the final outing of the show leading the list of nominees for the 2024 BAFTA TV and TV Craft awards, announced Wednesday.
Netflix’s hit royal drama — which came to an end last year after six seasons — landed eight nominations in total, including for Dominic West, Elizabeth Debecki, Lesley Manville and Salim Daw in the performance categories. However, it missed out for drama series (an award it has been nominated for three times previously).

The Crown’s swansong season has dominated the BAFTA TV nominations, picking up eight in a record year for Netflix.
Although it missed out in the coveted Drama Series category, four of the Netflix royal smash’s actors were handed nods today including Dominic West, who played Prince Charles, and Elizabeth Debicki, who was Princess Diana. Salim Daw and Lesley Manville are the other two nominated actors and actresses, while The Crown also received nominations in the likes of costume design, make up and sound.
Netflix achieved a record haul and was second only to the BBC with nominations, comfortably eclipsing stalwarts ITV and Channel 4 as Top Boy and Black Mirror were also rewarded.
Although not its most critically-rated season, Peter Morgan’s royal saga ended late last year with a bang and plenty controversy, and the noms come amid the ongoing Kate Middleton saga.

Parting is such sweet sorrow, particularly when it comes to Emmy voters. In recent years, the TV academy has given goodbye hugs to four Best Drama Series contenders for their final seasons: “Succession” (2023), “Game of Thrones” (2019), “Breaking Bad” (2014) and “The Sopranos” (2007). The only other dramas to land on this farewell list all hail from many decades ago: “Upstairs, Downstairs” (1977), “Elizabeth R” (1972), “The Bold Ones: The Senator” (1971) and “Playhouse 90” (1960). Will “The Crown” now become the ninth such program at the upcoming 2024 Emmys?

Mark Ronson is applauding the “Back to Black” screenplay for capturing late singer Amy Winehouse’s inherent “humor.”
Music producer Ronson, who collaborated with Winehouse on her Grammy-winning album of the same name, told Entertainment Tonight during the 2024 Oscars that while he has not watched biopic “Back to Black” yet, he can confirm the script captured Winehouse’s essence.

Sacha Baron Cohen and Chris Rock had the good sense to arrive early at the Jean-Michel Basquiat Made on Market Street exhibition at the Larry Gagosian Gallery in Beverly Hills.
They surveyed the 30 or so Basquiat art works in relative peace ,before the throng arrived.
Cohen tells me he came straight from writing something “for TV” that might shoot in Los Angeles or in London, he wasn’t sure. Interesting.
There may also be a film. But before anything else he’ll be seen along with Cate Blanchett, Kevin Kline, Lesley Manville and Louis Partridge in Disclaimer, the TV drama thriller Alfonso Cuarón has written and directed for Apple TV+.
Jeffrey Wright at the Basquiat exhibition. Photo Bamigboye/Deadline.
Rock and Cohen had skedaddled with pal Guy Oseary to see Madonna by the time Oscar nominee Jeffrey Wright presented himself at the gallery. It was wholly appropriate that the American Fiction star be there.

The Grotesquerie teaser offers no visuals, just the voice of Nash-Betts. “I don’t know when it started. I can’t put my finger on it. But it’s different now. There’s been a shift. It’s like something’s opening up in the world — a kind of hole to the center of nothingness,” Nash-Betts’ character says in the teaser. “What I saw today — they sent shrinks for everyone who worked this crime scene. You think, ‘Well hon, evil has always existed,’ and cite some statistic about how the world’s getting better, less murder, more help, less global horror, never been a better time to be alive, honey. Ryan Murphy Productions has dropped a teaser on Instagram for a previously unannounced FX series titled “Grotesquerie.” The promo, which was uploaded to the shingle’s account on Friday, described it as a “new horror drama series” that will premiere this fall.
The teaser didn’t contain any footage, and only flashed the names of cast members Niecy Nash-Betts, Courtney B. Vance and Lesley Manville over a black screen as Nash-Betts’ voice delivered a monologue, seemingly over a phone call.
“I don’t know what’s started. I can’t put my finger on it. But it’s different now,” she said in the clip. “There’s been a shift. It’s like something’s opening up in the world. A kind of hole to the center of nothingness.
“What I saw today — they sent shrinks for everyone who worked this crime scene,” the voiceover continued. “You say, ‘Well, hon,...

Exclusive: An actress who featured in the final season of The Crown and a series regular in Jack Whitehall’s Bad Education have said they are owed thousands in unpaid fees by scandal-hit agency Bodhi Talent.
Thea Beyleveld and Jack Bence were both loyal Bodhi clients but said they discovered that the agency had withheld money from them following the publication of a Deadline exposé on the company. Beyleveld also alleged that Bodhi “skimmed” money from her paycheck.
Beyleveld and Bence are among around eight Bodhi clients in contact with acting union Equity as they attempt to secure their money. Equity believes the cases are actionable and the union will go through civil courts to fight for cash. It is unlawful for UK agents to pay actors later than 10 days.
